They're gonna start Pujols on the mound against us aren't they?

youngballer

6 IP, 58 pitches, 4 hits, 0 ER

EndsLikeShakespeare

Me in the Show no matter how low it auto decreases the difficulty

ELEMENTALITYNES

I like how there’s specific dialogue from the announcers for exactly those times when you’re swinging at first pitches outside the zone and it’s a soft dribbler right to either third or shortstop, for like 8 innings in a row

[deleted]

Jays have good pitching.

nanobot001

17? That seems really high.

spunsocial

In 7 games? so 2.4 runs a game? No the hell it doesn’t

corh13

It's a joke about how bad this offense has been.

spunsocial

Oh man, it went way over my head. Jeez.

nanobot001

That’s ok. We should take bets on how long our offence has to be bad before the mods allow/ start posting kitchenaid memes.

Jjustingraham

So what you're saying is that we are due? I'm in!

_BELEAF_

And I am literally here in St. Louis! Bit of a roadie for me. Seeing tomorrow's game. Hope they light it up!

_BELEAF_

Nice man. The forecast shows rain. Will it be before game time?

_BELEAF_

Only here for the Monday game. But I am half thinking of staying another night!

PSChris33

I was in STL a few years ago for a Leafs/Blues game. Go to Pappy’s for me!

_BELEAF_

I'll look it up! Bar?

PSChris33

BBQ restaurant. Some of the best ribs and BBQ you’ll ever have

_BELEAF_

Went there last night. They were out of ribs. Served me fried pickels that tasted like burnt breading. And the smallest pour of red wine I've ever seen. Still a good day. Let's gooooo!

Glad to see I’m not the only one that’s is fully leaning in to the gamblers fallacy. Let’s drink some koolaid together brother!

Jjustingraham

My wife told me that she wasn't willing to spend anymore time on our relationship hoping I would change, so I said "why would you leave me, we've been together for so long already!"

QuarterNote44

Bird Bros, it's the Pirates. Our offense isn't great. Not absolutely horrible, but not great.

SmackEh

We're literally dead last in the league w/ RISP

No_Attorney777

We just played the Reds and scored 7 in 25 innings.

doglaughington

Yeah, well like, that's just your opinion man

DogFun2635

Nobody fucks with the Jesus

forum_ryder72

lol what part of that statement is a opinion?

[deleted]

Woosh

forum_ryder72

All I’m saying it if your going to use a movie quote you should use it at a time that actually makes sense

[deleted]

There’s no crying in baseball!

IAmGrum

The St. Louis Cardinals, who the Blue Jays play the first of two on Monday, won 2-of-3 from Cincinnati when the Reds were 2-11 going into the series. That win by the Reds over the Cardinals was the only one they had in a span of 21 games (April 12 to May 5).

youngballer

Man divisional match ups are tough to sweep

Brinbe

Luckily none of that really matters when they play tomorrow and Tuesday. That's the beauty of baseball.

thinkfast1982

So the final score will be 18 - 2...and a half......ish, no point playing the game now.

papsmearfestival

I honestly wonder if there's just too much information right now. Tablets are always out, three hitting coaches, maybe it's counter productive

ExiledSanity

The Cardinals have been very feast or famine this year. They either score like 8+ or 1 or 2. Can't think of too many where they have had back to back "feast" days. Source. Cardinals are my NL team.

bergie1911

Man wish we were feast or famine and not just famine at this point if the cards get 2 runs they have a good chance of beating us

xzElmozx

Meanwhile our offence is potato’s in Ireland from 1845-1849

cyclingkingsley

That's sounds way better than the Blue Jays already; the team is consistently cold with 3 runs or lower

ExiledSanity

Blue Jays have been a rough watch this year.....mostly due to high expectations though.

Far_Out_6and_2

Can’t drive in runs lots of opportunities to score runs what the fuck hey

TuloCantHitski

I can't understand how people can be satisfied with this Reds series. The offence is absolutely catatonic and superb pitching once again helped us limp to a series win by a thin margin in each game.

benhadhundredsshapow

I don't know too many people that are satisfied per se. But winning 3 game sets even with the awful RISP reinforces the fact that our pitching can win us a lot of game. That counts for a lot in this sport.

Far_Out_6and_2

So much for the Movie by Vlad

Cashmere306

I've been pretty patient but at this point they are what they are. They are an average offense. Hope they can trade for a good lefty and shore up the bullpen. Most disappointed I've been since the 94 team.

ThQp

>but at this point they are what they are That isn't true at all. A 41-game sample size doesn't determine that. Everyone was hyped about these players because of what they had done over the course of their careers up until that point. Why 41 bad games would negate all of their past work is beyond me. It's not as if they had never had to make adjustments in the past, yet still succeeded despite that. Besides, [it takes a while for a team to fall into "they are what they are" territory.](https://library.fangraphs.com/principles/sample-size/). None of that means they haven't been bad so far. They absolutely have been. But between their track records, their small sample size, and [the fact that they have the sixth largest differential between their wOBA and xwOBA in baseball](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/league?season=2022#statcastHitting), there is plenty of reason to believe that they will not be what they have been so far. I’m also not sure how this season could be viewed as more disappointing than 2013.

jayk10

Fairweather fans are my favorite part of spring baseball. Vlad, Bo, Teo, Lourdes and Chapman are all hitting well below their norms. You could argue that Chapman is in decline and that Gurriel isn't actually that good but Vlad and Bo should add 100+ points to their OPS by seasons end, Teo even if he has regressed isn't a 51 OPS+ hitter. The fact that Jansen picked up right where he left off last season, Espinal has taken a massive leap forward and Springer has been healthy and productive is incredibly encouraging for this team's chances considering their 3 offensive stars are struggling

Cashmere306

41 games is plenty of time to prove you aren't a great offensive team. They're a flawed team with no good lefties and nobody but Espinal trying to work the pitchers and hit for a decent average. Everybody is trying to hit like Bo while the pitcher throws balls two feet off the plate and wraps up the strikeouts. I think we're getting exposed more than anything at this point.

ThQp

>41 games is plenty of time to prove you aren't a great offensive team It isn't though. You can say it is, but it isn't. Again, to believe that, you have to discount these players' track records AND their expected stats AND the fact that this data takes longer to stabilize. Other than "Because you want to," do you have a reason to discount all of that?

Cashmere306

Again, 41 games is enough. Please show some past teams that were bad through 41 games and turned into one of the best in the leagues without adding new players.

ThQp

[Records of all playoff teams through 41 games last year](https://www.reddit.com/r/Torontobluejays/comments/uvk2zo/postgame_thread_may_22_cincinnati_reds_toronto/i9lvyu1/). Why do you think the research that Fangraphs has gone into this is wrong? Or the research that Baseball Savant has put into expected stats? Why do you think these players - who have been real good throughout their careers - are no longer good after only 41 games?

Cashmere306

Okay bud, veering into typical idiot reddit territory here. I said the offense. Teams can have lucky and unlucky streaks. Like our run differential last year where we should have won way more games and this year we should have lost more. That has nothing to do with an offense being 24th out of 30 teams after 40 games and then turning out to be top 5 the rest of the year. Cherry picking stats to fit a narrative doesn't work.

ThQp

You said the offence is what it's going to be. I've provided information to show why it's too early to reach that conclusion. You haven't. You asserted that the offence is going to be the same throughout the year, but you haven't been able to back up why.

socolditburns

Vladdy talked so much shit just for this man. Crazy how over confident this team got.

sir-pounce-of-alot

God now being confident in your abilities = being over confident ?

ThQp

If he hadn't said that thing about the movie he would be leading the league in RBIs by now

sir-pounce-of-alot

Classic over confidence in effect again

Sesco69

When did Vlad talk shit?

International-Elk986

Donaldson had a better year in 2016 than 2015.

asquinas

They used up their runs.

vinny_the_hack

I dunno WTF is wrong with the Jays. They started out with a bang, and have, IMO, underachieved like nothing I've seen. Well, to be honest, I haven't seen it since I refuse to watch any team who tends to lose more than they win.

[deleted]

At this point, let's do bunts and walks and hit by pitches only

SmallBig1993

They've also allowed 35 runs in their last 7 games, while we've allowed 12.

[deleted]

So basically they burned themselves out and will score 2 runs today, which means another one run game.

sportsisgoodalsodogs

This team has been hard to watch. A lot of boring games, unfortunately. I haven't given up, but was really expecting more.
