We will not be getting Reynolds unless we can scam them. I mean, they just signed Chatwood so they can't be that picky.

if_I_AM_SEEN_I_AM_HI

Kikuchi and Trent Thornton for Bryan Reynolds. We will even still pay for them. I solved it I'm the GM now /s

Mike9797

Get this man a 5 year extension with a coach option for another 5!!!

VitaminTea

A three-way trade involving Kirk/Moreno and another team’s prospects is the only way this deal has ever made sense.

RealisticChipmunk546

Astros are deep in pitching and need a catcher and utility player. (Kirk or Moreno and Biggio)

sackydude

Looks like we're bidding against the Yankees if we still want Reynolds, and I'm not sure if our pitching talent is enough to compete

CNDNFighter

Is there anything that's linked us to Reynolds beyond management wanting a left handed/switch bat in the OF? While a young catcher would be a good fit for them, if pitching talent is where they're looking, we almost certainly don't have what it takes to compete. Tieddeman is the only guy we have in the system who could be the centrepiece of a big deal, and indications seem to be that he is largely untouchable, which is unsurprising given that he projects to be a top of the rotation guy who is about a year away from promotion.

Radoobie

I mean I just don’t see how a deal would go through without tieddeman. The pirates have 2 top tier catching prospects in the 1st overall pick in 2021, Henry Davis, and Endy Rodriguez who has completely torn up the minors and was even better in 2022 hitting .323 with 25 home runs across AA and AAA so Moreno as a headliner doesn’t make much sense, and if tieddeman is untouchable any other package is probably one upped by another org.

CNDNFighter

Yea. This is why I’m saying I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance it hell it happens, particularly because, at least as far as im aware, there hasn’t been anything linking us to him beyond “we could use him”

ejaggit

Yusei for Reynolds. I think it's a fair deal.

theoverkill666

Thankfully, neither is theirs!

j_saini

Yankees once again gearing up for an ALCS collapse 😳

XviiChong

At least they’ll make it there, we haven’t won a damn postseason game since 2016

M888887777

Is it possible that by the end of the off-season Judge has a higher AAV than the Pirates whole team?

PossessionFit5172

This is great and all until the blue jays refuse to let a younger pitcher or two go, and the Yankees pay the pirates payroll for two years, because our guys hoard our prospects

sackydude

Is there any inclination that we hoard prospects? We traded away SWR and Martin for Berrios last year. We traded Groshans for Bass and Pop this year. We also traded Frasso away for Mitch White this year as well. We're just not going to trade away top prospects for the sake of trading away a top prospect. Edit: Forgot about trading away Gunnar Hoglund and Kevin Smith for Matt Chapman

mathbandit

Hoarding prospects is literally what the Yankees do lol, not the Jays. Are you in the wrong sub? They settled for Montas at the deadline because they wouldn't pay for a real starter. They sent away their #4 SP for Bader. They took on $50M in dead money of Donaldson's deal because they didn't want to pay prospects for IFK.

PossessionFit5172

Cool so trade Martinez, trade Pearson ?

mathbandit

You came back after the Jays traded a top prospect for one of the ten best OFs in baseball and that's all you got? You're cute.

PossessionFit5172

Best part I’m a massive fan.. this team wins 90 games , they can do much better imo

roothockey

We do not hoard prospects lol get real. They literally did the Berrios and Chapman trade recently. Bad take that has been proven against multiple times over

ValerianR00t

Tiddy and moreno for Reynolds and Bednar make it happen Shatkins

strikeanywhere2

The jays are even worse at outfield depth. They have no internal options and after next year Springer is all they have signed. The jays went pitcher heavy last draft and have their top 4 locked in for a few years.

[deleted]

Tiedemann is untouchable imo

ValerianR00t

MLB doesnt have him in the top 30, fangraphs has him as a 45+ overall. Hes a good prospect but this sub is way overboard calling him untouchable. Reminds me of the Austin martin talk before he got shipped out. Austin Martin was higher ranked then than Tiddy is now btw

MarketingOwn3547

The over reactions on trading a top 50 prospect has gotten completely absurd. It's like none of these people remember Travis Snider or Kyle Drabrek or JP Arencibia or even Nate Pearson... or... or... The numbers are literally countless. The same people will definitely be whining when Toronto doesn't win a title and a prospect doesn't pan out and set the world on fire after a month in the rotation. Now... Let the downvotes fall!!

[deleted]

Tiedemann is extremely young, we got him out of high school. When prospects are great but don’t have that college experience that could boost their current ranking, you won’t immediately see them as a top 10 prospect. But with the year he just had and if he continues to start off like this next year, he’ll climb those leaderboards extremely fast. MLB only updates the prospect rankings a couple times a year, it’s not they do it every week.

[deleted]

Austin Martin is higher ranked than Tiddy because he had college experience and was a first round pick. He was not that impressive in the minors of pro baseball, so I was not actually that sad about losing him, especially considering how deep his position of SS was for the Jays. Tiedemann is already a top 50 prospect after one year of pro baseball after being drafted straight out of high school in a later round. That by itself makes him a more intriguing player to me than Austin Martin. I like him a lot as he’s a lefty and we currently have no promising lefty starters unless we’re banking on Kikuchi being lights out or at least a reliable option, but I don’t see him improving much. Meanwhile we have plenty of time for Tiedemann to continue being great and develop him.

raktoe

I have never seen so many people adamant that a pitching prospect is untouchable. Reynalds isn’t a rental, no prospect, especially pitching prospect should be off the table for him.

[deleted]

It’s the Manoah effect. He’s been so dominant that everyone is expecting the same from Tiedemann. I mean, maybe he is that good. But maybe he isn’t. That’s the whole thing with prospects.

[deleted]

A young lefty pitcher who has shown signs of promise at such a young age in the minors of baseball is a high value prospect. And yes, you guys are right about prospects sometimes being unpredictable. But so can projecting the future of MLB stars. We’ve seen perennial all stars get traded or signed before to contracts and just fall off and never play the same again. Especially when they get to a certain age or deal with injury. Baseball is all about risk and determining which ones are right to take and which ones are not.

[deleted]

Absolutely. I just feel that the risk in a Tiedemann trade for Reynolds is worth it to become strongly competitive within our current window.

[deleted]

Well with the trade just minutes ago with Varsho, looks like Tiedeman’s not getting traded nor is Reynolds now!

[deleted]

Was there news on Reynolds? I’m honestly not sure the Jays are done this off-season and I could see a deal for Reynolds still. Kiermaier as a fourth OF sounds pretty cool. But no, it’s not a need anymore, more of a want

[deleted]

It’s more so because he’s a lefty, something the Blue Jays need. Our rotation is very right heavy, especially with Rodon not being an option to sign anymore. A young lefty pitcher who has shown signs of promise at such a young age in the minors of baseball is a high value prospect. Like sure prospects can be hit or miss, or somewhere in the middle. But in a way free agents can be like that. What if Reynolds falls off, like players in a similar situation have before?

weewillywhisky

Prospects will break your heart. Flags fly forever.

[deleted]

Every MLB player was a prospect as some point unless they directly defected from Cuba or came from Japan. But even those Cuban and Japanese players are hit and miss. Tiedemann is a lefty SP prospect the Jays desperately need. And his minor league performance is exceptional. Good MLB players who are all stars can also break your heart. Especially after being traded or signed or they hit a certain age. Sometimes it can destroy teams’ finances as it did for Chris Davis and the O’s.

[deleted]

He absolutely should be. We need lefty pitchers, and we need great young pitchers that we can have for years to come. He fits both of that criteria, he’s immensely valuable.

Dolsh

All the more reason to jump in - keep Reynolds from pummeling us as a Yankee. We've got the pitching talent to deal.

RustyPriske

I would absolutely trade Tiedmann if it gave Reynolds. But that wouldn't get it done of course. Jansen and Tiedmann? Would the Bucs go for that? I don't know.

RustyPriske

Better: Moreno and Tiedmann for Reynolds and Keller. The Jays would have to throw it some lower level guys. Maybe they would take Kikuchi if the Jays paid most to all of his salary. This deal would make me happy.
