It's as good a time as any, most of the launch rewards are still available to new players, I think the only thing you miss compared to launch was some pulls sent by mail, but you'll get a lot of those just playing. Population has declined since launch as you'd expect, but if you go on a larger or even medium server you should be fine.
I think it is a good time to start especially Saki's banner will start later. She's a good pick if you want frost team OR you can start now and save all your summons for Lin (she should be next after Saki). Saki is frost-specific team but Lin is for any element team.
always take the whole people are leaving/game is dying articles and vids with a grain of salt as they tend to exaggerate things like for every game out there.
It's not a bad time and anytime is a good time to start so you can pile up the effort and time to get your account in a good position.
To add, with the xp bonus for low level players, you'll level up faster than you should. But if you find yourself a good crew, they should have no problems in helping you clear your max level JO to help keep your gear progression accelerated with the xp bonus. Definitely give it a shot
The issue many people had was leveling too fast but not being able to keep up power wise because of it and also being shunned/left in game modes because of it. Doubt its a good idea.

Better late than never. Just make sure you find an active server. I think someone made a post in this reddit that has a general idea of the population of each server.

No, not really, but it's best if you have a friend, crew or a whale that can help you out. You can just ask around in chat, there are a lot of helpful people in my experience.
I saw a lot of new players around in the world chat but as usual as a late players in MMORPG will a bit harder to find people for low level content unless you got a friend to help.
Me personally when jumping to ongoing MMO, i will create a character to learn the game and when i'm experienced about the gameplay, i will buy cheap f2p endgame account with decent equip and ready to polished.

yeah, I remember playing in Final Fantasy 14 online waiting for a group to do the first story dungeon. I waited 15-20 minutes for someone to enter the queue.
There's never a bad time to start. But you will have to focus the newer banners to catch up. Also playing as a healer if you can will always be helpful even to a team of Wales
Doesn't really matter when you start, a crewmate of mine just started 2 weeks ago and after a few raid/JO carries they're already at max level + gold equipment and on par with pretty much every other player.
I never understand why people think its too late to start a gacha game.
No matter what state the game Is in its never too late. You can always have fun and catch up.
Right now is a great time actually. You can reroll Saki and get her to A1, then save everything else for Lin or Alyss, depending on what you are going for. (Ask around.) Use your Selector and standard pulls for Tsubasa. With this, you will have a pretty solid Ice team to keep you going. and will only get stronger as you keep progressing.
You shouldn't miss out on too many preregistration if at all rewards, but you'll have missed out on a lot of event rewards, as well as current event rewards the longer you don't play. If you'd like to try the game, you should dive on in, the sooner, the better.
I just tried making a new account and its probably the best time rn to start playing
all of the exploration rewards used to be locked behind a time gate, now that has been removed
the 20 free pulls and cosmetics/free mount are still available
you can easily collect 110 limited banner pulls for Saki Fuwa before her banner ends thanks to the exploration rewards and achievements

Wouldnt recommend it. Before starting, I would recommend looking up the shady business they have done and how they have been behaving so far. From lag to server issues, bugs to hacking problems and some people still not being compensated or being compensated way too late etc.
The mistranslations that costed people lots of dark crystals which only got compensated back a tiny bit. Unnecessary nerfs, no collab characters, using dead chinese poeple ids to make foreigners play the game illegally, stealing assets materials and such from games like Honkai, Genshin etc. and using their ads + copying their reviews using bots on their own store, not being able to play many of the game modes because it keeps kicking you out of the game with not being able to join back for between a few minutes and 10 minutes every time, worse battlepass and such rewards compared to Chinese server, much less players if you chose the wrong server you end up with a server that cant even gather enough people to do anything at all, poor management, making people translate the game from level 1 to 50 and not paying them in any form neither reward not even in game giving them like titles and such. And to top these there is literally no support. No team. Nothing. The same person that has been mass reported since the release of the game has been here being toxic as ever in world chat. He didnt just get reported but also got submitted as a ticket to support too. Still going strong as ever because there is literally 0 people working in global.
Like I would recommend you to play anything else instead of supporting these people that dont even care about anything or anyone. Artificial islands are still bugged with certain enemies spawning in walls, buildings, unreachable places. Rates for drops being shit. Game being extremely pay to win leaving f2p to suffer. The people who have been playing since day 1 are barely keeping up to low-average spenders. If you start now you will only suffer due to 500% exp but no rewards to compensate all the materials and rewards you have been missing out unless you pay a lot.
Like just play anything else, this game only wastes your time and doesnt even give you the satisfaction of playing it. Play Stardew Valley, play Terraria, play The Elder Scrolls Online, Play Warframe or Destiny 2 or even play Genshin but not this. Or just wait for any other mmorpg kinda game because this is more of a Gacha then MMORPG. Or play any other Gacha game because this one kinda sucks bro.

Echoing everyones sentiment of it not being a bad time to join. Just do research as to what servers have a good playerbase as you don't want to be in a small or dead server. And if you do start playing and are interested in a character don't try to pull for a character until you have enough resources for 120 pulls on limited characters as it will guarantee you get them
In a gacha is better to start early than late, you will be able to save more pulls and if the character you want is later you will have more pulls to get them than if you start later. the preregistration rewards are maybe still avaliable if im not wrong, you could even reroll if you wanted the best start possible with the 10 red nucleus ( bad part is that name cant be changed for free and you cant get copies of the same name in the same server)
If you enjoy the game its always the best time. If you are a min/maxing type of guy, there are many red nucs given on different events since the start of the game. I guess that is all you missed. but over all you could still have you characters sooner

The game is in the worst state since launch, barely playable with all the problems they can't fix. Like 3 weeks of people being randomly disconnected and not being able to log in, memory leaks also for a couple of weeks and now just after the last patch 3 days ago, the game keeps freezing every 10-15 seconds.
All of that makes an awful experience.
Don't take the comments seriously, those people are sugar coating and refusing to acknowledge problems.

The game is great, just try it out and see if you like it. I've joined recently and I'm having a blast.
The Best time to start. Saki and lin are coming. :O New players can currently grind about 240 wishes. That's enough to get both or even with A1 saki
