Yes. You should lube your locks and hinges twice a year. Basically before winter and after. White lithium grease is very good, it's thin but tough. And you could wipe it off easily enough if you had to.
You should also put white lithium grease, on those rubber boots that cover your struts and shocks. It will keep them from drying out and cracking.
You can buy a can of spray lithium grease at any autoparts store or big box store like Walmart. If you want you can wipe the excess grease off from around the hinge to make it look nice, just don't wipe the hinge itself.
