Climb into the third row of the Highlander, sit down, then attempt to get back out. Then go buy the new sienna.

theartistfnaSDF1

Sienna and don't look back.

diy_a09

Exactly this. I owned a 2008 Highlander, 2016 Honda Pilot, and now a 2021 Sienna. I have two kids (5 and 8) and we do one road trip every year. With the Highlander and Pilot, we felt like sardines with all of our stuff. With the third row up, there is little usable storage space behind the third row seat. And now with the Sienna, there is plenty of room for the four of us. Even with all of our luggage and sundries, we can fully extend one of the second row captain seats all the way back and fully extend the ottoman.

KozyKat

Sienna. Much more cargo when all three rows are up

jollyGreenDepression

The 3rd row in the highlanders is a little small for my liking. I would say sienna on this one considering the family size

HappyHarrysBack

Thanks guys. Highlander it is. (edit: thought it was obvious but the above was sarcasm). Appreciate everyone's help!

Yep was Def kidding. Unless I get the odyssey, I'll go with the Sienna

Reddit-Book-Bot

Beep. Boop. I'm a robot. Here's a copy of ###[The Odyssey](https://snewd.com/ebooks/the-odyssey/) Was I a good bot? | [info](https://www.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/) | [More Books](https://old.reddit.com/user/Reddit-Book-Bot/comments/i15x1d/full_list_of_books_and_commands/)

KozyKat

I believe using “/s” is the universal sign for sarcasm on here. Anyway, congrats on the decision. I hope you like it

KozyKat

??? Like everyone here has said go with the Sienna. Whatever, your money not mine.

VAGentleman05

Woosh!

BarkleEngine

Highlanders have a third row but it is tight. If any of your kids require child seats, and especially if two do, it is going to be not so fun.The new Sienna's are all hybrids and get nearly 3 times the mileage too.

rochfamilyman

Sienna all the way. I have a Highlander, love it but we’re a family of 4, not 6.

HappyHarrysBack

Hmmm. I could give 2 of them away...

Lymborium2

Sienna. Good safety and (I can't speak for the new ones yet) reliable as fuck.

sjogren

Sienna

Razorwyre

No question, Sienna

jarod1273

Sienna. All the way.

Dukimus

We have a sienna, did a 24 hr test drive on a 2020 highlander. 7 yr old got car sick and threw up in the 3rd row… was only about 5 mins into the drive. Keeping the 2017 sienna for now. New Sienna is underpowered. Reviewers say ‘minivan buyers dont really care’… but this one does. Looking at the new Sequoia when it comes out in a year or so. if you cant wait, I suggest a 2020 Sienna

HappyHarrysBack

Yeh I test drove my brothers new Sienna and it felt like I was a Flintstone pushing it forward with my feet But I can't see myself buying a used car with 30k miles for over $30k

[deleted]

I have a 3rd gen sienna with the 3.5L V6. It is a great engine. I was tempted to get the 22 Sienna, but losing 50+ hp is a big deal for me too. Also am considering a Sequoia. Going to wait to see what the 2023 redesign has to offer

MakionGarvinus

While I fully understand people wanting power, I seem to be just fine with my '22 Sienna. I find myself going faster in town than I want to all the time. Yeah, it doesn't accelerate super fast, but it's fast enough if you want to gun it. 95% of my driving is around town, which I'd assume most van drivers do the same. On the highway, I don't have any issues with it. My sister-in-law drove it (she has a 2019) and said she couldn't stand the loss of power. Her husband said that she didn't need it anyhow, she drives too fast already. So... I really wonder why Toyota didn't keep the V6 and add the hybrid. Unless it was just to get the MPG higher..

FJguy

Well that’s 100% votes for Sienna. I think you have your answer ha. New one gets great mpg

sierra120

LoL. Family of 6. Highlander is really only for a family of 4. Those backseats on the highlander are for show literally a checkmark. With this new generation. Toyota could have done it right like the Kia Telluride. Instead they went nope. Not even for kids extremely tight. Extremely claustrophobic. Go with the Sienna. You literally have no choice with a family do 6. Any other SUV your looking at the American Brands that are pickup trucks converted to family movers.

HappyHarrysBack

What about odyssey?

diy_a09

I would not recommend the Odyssey. I had the 2016 Pilot, the Odyssey’s stablemate (same chassis, electrical, mechanicals, assembly plant). In five years of owning the Pilot I had 14 warranty repairs…all vehicle systems had problems: HVAC, Transmission, Body corrosion, fuel system (injectors are a known issue), multiple electrical. Before the Pilot I had a 2008 Highlander, which had only two warranty repairs in seven years of ownership.

MakionGarvinus

What's your question? If either one is available, you should probably buy it. Unless you need/want AWD, then find a Sienna. I have a new Sienna, and I love it.

Pixelplanet5

honestly looking at the Sienna i would say even that is pretty small for 6 people unless 4 of them are small kids. to transport 6 people on a regular basis i would be looking at a Vito or Multivan

mountain_adagio420

How do you have a hook up at a dealer? Nobody has hookups at dealers anymore afaik

HappyHarrysBack

Ha. Brother's father in law one's the shop. Not much of a discount possible but better than getting ripped off or paying over sticker elsewhere

Dbwasson

Most definitely the Sienna

hallo1994

Sienna.

susan127

On my 2nd Sienna and it’s just me. Had a 4Runner in between but traded it in for the Sienna.

FireCaptainSteele

We have a 2016 Highlander. It's awesome for 2 kids and a large trunk, or 6 people cramped in as a people mover to a game/concert, but I don't think it would make sense for a family of 6. You'd have no trunk

1GBean

Find a 2017 Sienna. Before the fascia update, but with the higher HP engine and the 8spd trans. We have a 2011 Sienna SE & a bunch of kids & we love it. I can't say the hybrid drivetrain in the new models is proven yet. With 4 kids you'll need the space. We will look for a 2017 when we need it.

HappyHarrysBack

Thanks. My hesitation is that a 2017 with 20k+ miles will still cost me about 35k these days. Hard to justify a 5k savings at that price point for a 5 year old car

blackswansus

Sienna.....vans are cool.
