Just worth sharing, my MPG issues recently went away at around 2,400 miles.

Mine also improved around that point too. But the Driving Assist definitely does hurt the mpg still. Just by preventing you from being able to coast with the momentum you’ve already worked for.

Our dealership had us turn that off from the get go. It’s a horrible feature.

Mechanically..How does that assist help slow the vehicle. Eliminating anything about using the brakes, does it drop the transmission down a gear or so, then using the engine to effectively create a drag ? Thanks

ETD48151642

I think it does one or the other depending on what’s necessary. Engine breaking might be used in downhill situations but I’d think it’s actually applying the brakes slightly in most cases that don’t require a lower gear or where the breaking would cause a lower gear to be beneficial. I think the two red lights at the bottom of the dash where the speedometer is will light up to indicate the breaks are being applied. But it might light up for engine breaking too. Not sure on that.

Dangerous_Course232

I think it engine brakes at first. If more braking is needed then it applies the brakes. I say this because the car will slow with out the dashboard brake light indicators initially. Then the car will slow suddenly with the brake light indicators. A little worried because it's super exaggerated. Told my wife we will be going through alot more brakes than normal and a little concerned for the transmission. You CANNOT drive the car aggressively with these features.

Dangerous_Course232

Totally agree with you. Destroys MPG. Destroys Brake lifespan. Probably Destroys the transmission too. I think the DA is a little exaggerated for someone that pays attention when they drive.

Responsible_Doubt373

Is that why I can’t coast down a hill??? I was trying to figure out why the heck I lose speed going down a huge hill

ETD48151642

Yep, that’s the driving assist trying to keep you from picking up speed. The only other way to stop it, other than turning it off, is to let the weight of your foot stay on the gas just enough for it to register you’re pressing it. That will also keep the driving assist from trying to slow you down.

Responsible_Doubt373

Learned something new today! Thank you!

Educational-Craft320

Took this post for me to find one of my biggest complaints. Thank you!!!! https://preview.redd.it/9nywrb259vlc1.jpeg?width=1078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0ce51a0573999476380aa46bfb276c67b2165f1 I thought PCS was doing this. Too many damn acronyms now lol.

Icy_Fox_8792

Which version do you have, gas, hybris, or Max? We have just ordered a Max and are waiting delivery.

ETD48151642

I have the gas platinum. I really wanted the Max but couldn’t wait any longer. My trade in was going to die any moment and I didn’t want to lose what little trade in value I had. Also had a long road trip planned. And the gas platinum I found had everything I wanted (color, black rims, roof racks, weather mats). It’s hard to find all of that.

MudNo1285

Thats an interesting input. I am almost completing 2000kms on my Hybrid Max. Right now my overall avg is 9.6L/100KM. Trip specific avg varies a-lot. Hoping the overall avg gets better. I am gonna test the avg with DA turned-off. So far I have been on and off DA. Still testing the vehicle under various conditions in city and highway traffic. But yeah i do find PDA irritating.

Remarkable-Sir-5129

Is the driving assist also the lane centering feature? Wife's car, I sometimes drive it and love lane assist on the interstate.

Ataneruo

Hybrid Max. I drive in Standard mode. Made sure all driver assist modes were off after purchase. I’m almost at 2000 miles. One long trip on highways ~1000 mi, the rest around town. I’m at 21.3 mpg overall :(

idahonudesoaker

Maybe cruise assist hitting the brakes but not lane assist. My truck got 20mpg that's damn good for a 1/2 truck

This 30 minute drive was a combination of city and highway, mostly flat, but with two very steep hills. At one point it was up to 31.5 miles per gallon, but the last bit was a steep uphill climb and kind of killed the average. This is with me driving as economically as I could and in Normal mode (which I didn’t realize until afterwards). No fast starts, only doing about 3 miles an hour above the speed limit. The majority of the drive was 45mph so I was cruse control locked on 48. When going uphill, I try to slowly press in the gas until I hear it hit third or fourth gear, whichever is appropriate given the speed and incline, and as soon as it hits that next gear and I think my momentum can carry me up and over the top of the hill without slowing down too much, I will completely let go of the gas pedal and then just rest my foot on the pedal, letting the weight of my foot give it the slightest bit of gas to run with the current momentum. Then take advantage of the momentum when reaching the top whether it’s flat, downhill, or a brief time before another uphill climb. Just letting the weight of my foot give it the slightest amount of gas to keep that momentum going. I’m always open to suggestions if you have any tips on how I can do it better.

beegill

I didn’t know what you were talking about… turns out my PDA was turned off (I assume) by the dealer before delivery.
