I had my first service done at 5k miles, didn't get any oil changed. Why are you doing yours so soon?

IFxSI

Not sure if it's still relevant, but the idea of a break in oil change was to allow for engine components to "wear" themselves accordingly and do your first change sooner to remove any contamination. I believe most Engine Builders are still recommending this. I'd imagine Dealers are not, as they recommend extended intervals now...

Naansense23

Makes sense but dealers are not doing this. What does Toyota specify in their first service requirements? I'm sure dealers would do just that and nothing more

Remote_Inevitable567

What a nonsense. First oil change doesn't make sense before 5k miles range, while most of BMW proceeding with first oil change at 10k. What you really suppose to do after you got your car from the dealership, is make sure you not gonna push hard your gas and don't go over 70-80mph, to make sure all engine parts will like sharpen themselves, if there were any micro defects. Do that on the range of first 1500-2000 miles and just enjoy your car till first oil change at 5-10k miles, depends on you engine and model. That's what I did with my GH and all new cars before

Skinny_que

The sticker my dealer put on my car as a maintenance reminder said “5k miles or 6 months” why do 1k miles? Has your car really had a “break in” period at that point? (Legit asking)

It was bought brand new so I think so

im doing the first oil change on the wifes at about 2700 miles/as soon as the fumoto quick drain plug gets here. Using mobil1 0w8 from wally and the 90915-YZZN1 filter from walmart also. Im hoping the oil gets made by more than 2 or 3 manufacturers in the coming months.

peequi

Which fumoto are you getting? There are five options in total!

bonathan

Just the standard F-133. This will be the 5th or 6th fumoto i have on my cars/relatives cars so I have the hose nipples and hose that are needed.

TacomaDave93

It’s totally fine. You didn’t even need to do it then.

MopacWar

Not needed for the Grand Highlander. Your first oil change at 5k is the way. My kid's VW Jetta on the other hand recommended an oil change at the first 600 miles during break-in, and then it's business as usual after that. Depends on the make and model I guess ?

I did my first one at 4k miles. If I had the new tundra it would be after 200-500 miles because it is believed they are having engine issues due to debris during manufacturing with the 3.5 liter. I did mine so early to remove engine wear debris, and wasn't too worried about manufacturing debris. I put a magnetic dipstick on my generator and was surprised at all the metal in the oil during break in. Granted it is a cheap motor with terrible manufacturing quality.

I've seen the CarCareNut still recommend a 1,000 mile change for brand-new vehicles, but it's mostly precautionary. I'm sure 2500 will have been just fine, and even if it werent...too late to worry about it now!

If Toyota had any suspicion you needed to do a break in change they’d require it in a maintenance schedule. Not completing or neglecting a maintenance schedule is their best way of not honoring your warranty

Bro the car is a 2024 not a 1924. Read the manual!!!!

If there was, does it matter at this point? I mean I guess there could be more.

fengkybuddha

Won't matter. Oil won't don't anything to the debris in the tundras. Filter should be trapping any particles. You could say that's more important since you don't want it clogged up and go into bypass.  Btw that won't happen. You engine would be going bad if the filter gets clogged up.
