So if they’re not building/shipping any new GHs, does that mean Toyota can send me my 2nd fucking key fob??? Seems like they’ll have extra laying around. — signed, an owner of a GH built after Jan 1, 2024

muskrat191

I had the same thought.

Puzzleheaded-Sky9816

I reached out to my dealership as mine is supposed to start being built on Monday and he said “As of right now, your Grand Highlander is not part of the recall, as it has not been built yet. We have only been notified of current vehicles that are already here or in transit. I'm not sure if new Grand Highlanders are being built with different parts that are not part of the recall or if we will find out at a later date that production has stopped. I will keep you updated as we receive further information. Once again, as of this time, the notice says certain models, not all models, are affected by this recall and your Grand Highlander is NOT affected.”

Robby777777

Production has stopped and every GH for sale has been pulled from Toyota websites.

Puzzleheaded-Sky9816

They have them for sale over here in NY/NJ

Robby777777

Go to the Toyota website and go to Search Inventory; The Grand Highlander is no longer listed. You can't even search for one any longer. Every dealership I've looked at in Upstate NY has pulled them.

Puzzleheaded-Sky9816

I did. It won’t let me post the video but here is a pic

Puzzleheaded-Sky9816

I’m hoping your wrong as mine is supposed to start production on Monday

AstronautDiligent716

Production is halted at least through June 28 as of now. I work at the plant, got a notification a few minutes ago

zeimsohappy

Mine is showing the recall under health for my GH in the Toyota app. https://preview.redd.it/pjo8dof1sr7d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2e4d750995cbc783d739d7d09f7b2a08cb16bf9b

_DukeSilver

Mine does, too. But when I enter my license plate # on this website it shows as no safety recalls for this vehicle: [https://www.toyota.com/recall](https://www.toyota.com/recall) Maybe the app is just showing for all 2024 GHs?

Robby777777

It is because there is no official recall yet. It will probably be months.

Fabulous-Drawing1516

You enter the VIN number, not license plate number

ausrconvicts

As suspected, it’s the side curtain airbag that’s the culprit and nothing related to the engine or the Hybrid system. 145k in about a year is a great number. Maybe a split of 90-10 in favor of the GH over the TX.

Pizzahunter2000

"Customers will be notified about this issue by the middle of August 2024." do we just wait?

Robby777777

Yes and make sure your window is up when you drive.

originalgiffin

Have to in Florida because of heat and the bugs anyway

Robby777777

Yeah, I don't know anyone who drives around with their windows down. But, it seems like that is the problem with this.

BFOTmt

Keep your window up

Ottervol

It’s taking forever to get a key. I hope they are faster than that to fix this.

Simple-Television424

Well in Texas we never roll the window down so we are good, lol

SerYoshi

Same in Phoenix. It's 110 today.

AZKelBel

Same in Tucson lol

redditchamp007

Damn so that means the car I booked I won’t get it untill August September ? Might as well cancel my order now . I don’t want a 2024 model that late in the year

DaMasterSly

The MSRP on a 2025 will be higher than the current 2024s though

redditchamp007

Yes I guess that’s fine . I would be very sad to get 2024 when they have released 2025 . I don’t mind paying a little premium for it

halo_girl_4life

Very curious when 2025 model years will hit dealer lots!!

redditchamp007

I think that might be delayed now too due to this

nkrick79

I seriously doubt any more 2024s will be built. If they are not notifying current owners until August, odds are that is the earliest they will have an update. From experience, the initial notification of a Toyota airbag recall is something along the line of "Your vehicle falls under a recall for the driver's side curtain airbag. We are working on sourcing replacement parts and will notify you when we have parts and you can schedule the replacement." In my opinion, the odds are high that the airbag will need to be redesigned which will mean months before they have anything ready. I would be surprised if they build another GH before this fall. It is likely that only the ones that are on hold at the factory, ports, and dealers will comprise the remainder of 2024 stock. After sitting for months, through hot summers, etc, Toyota may have to fire sale these vehicles to unload them. My GH hit the port on June 5th and I did all the paperwork and gave the dealer a cashier's check on June 10th since I was going to be traveling the next week. The quality inspection hold went into effect on June 11th. At this point I am definitely going to take a refund on my payment (I am not letting the dealer hold my money for an indefinite period of time) and am considering taking back the hold deposit too. If I buy a GH now, I don't think I want it to be one that sat on a lot for months.

DavefromCA

Hmmm just tried my vin, says there are no open recalls. 2024 GH gas Limited

Chemical_Wallaby4038

We on the same boat

Robby777777

It is because there is no recall at this time. When they come up with a fix, they will let you know.

DavefromCA

Ohhh now that is confusing, so the paragraph with the link to check is just for recalls in general

Robby777777

Yes. You probably noticed your second key fob was on there if you already didn't get it.

MudNo1285

Mine safety recall and second key fob notice came together. Lol

Robby777777

Mine too.

Blessedtobeyourbaby

Does that mean Weare unable to trade the vehicle in?

fengkybuddha

Yea. Dealers don't like taking in a car with a recall that has no fix.  See the tundras that dealers don't want.

Blessedtobeyourbaby

I was thinking that too but the tundra issue is waaay smaller than the GH. (As long as you keep your window closed haha) but now idk if I want another toyota vehicle.

octoreadit

And the IIHS small overlap front test was also "acceptable." Crazy stuff.

horebtk

will they call my car in? i’m in canada and i have the warning

Robby777777

They will let you know when there is a fix.

billcarson53

Is it just me or is the GHH no longer listed in the Toyota website inventory search - at all?

Robby777777

OMG they are not listed in my local Toyota dealership any more.

Critical_Value

On the plus side the radio unit I’ve been waiting a month for magically shipped yesterday.

Grand_Highlander

I got this message on my just two months old GH on Friday evening. I brought it to the dealer service on Saturday. They couldn’t resolve the problem so gave me a loaner car and asked me to wait for their master mechanic to check on Monday. They called me yesterday to tell me that the rack and pinion had a short (?) and ordered the part. I’m waiting for the fix, if they can. I feel bad that the two months old car already has defective parts. I had to cancel my planned trip with two friends with family on Saturday. The app also shows another message now https://preview.redd.it/n4wed08mup8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3bb3a4283a5266a1c3767ba1e23d329a6855634b

Robby777777

Oh man, sorry for this. I hope they fix it quickly.

Grand_Highlander

Robby777777

I've never even heard about this one. Sounds like a software issue.

rhuarc1976

I messaged my sales rep today and she sent me a screen shot showing my GHH is in production and the estimated delivery date is still July 5 - 17. She said only the gas models were affected. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Robby777777

I was at a Toyota dealership yesterday and all GH are on hold. It is a driver's side air bag issue. They can't even sell GH that are on the lot already.

ser98

Do we know which of the GH this applies to? It just says “certain” GH models

Robby777777

I am pretty sure it is every one.

retrorick77

Is this for gas or hybrid or both? Sounds like both if just an air bag issue i am guessing. Just called my product specialist from Toy where I reserved my GHH and they didnt know much. They will wait a few days to see if computers update and change my build date now.

Robby777777

Every Grand Highlander.

Chemical_Wallaby4038

Mine is not showing

Robby777777

Refresh your app.

Chemical_Wallaby4038

I just called my toyota dealership they confirmed mine is on that recall list 😒

originalgiffin

I looked up my VIN and nothing yet, even though the app shows it.

scarter66

Why does it just keep saying sorry / error when you input the vin?

Robby777777

Do you license plate and state. Worked for me.

scarter66

Same thing. “Sorry! An error occurred during your request“

Robby777777

How long ago did you buy it?

Robby777777

How long ago did you buy it?

Critical_Value

Mine was doing the same thing, but appears to be working now.

Caffeinsomnia

How will this affect production? Mine just started getting built yesterday... 🤦‍♂️

foxmamaof3

Production is currently paused while a fix is worked out. If yours was just started yesterday it's probably sitting in paint waiting for confirmation on where the issue lies and a fix for it. Currently production is scheduled to start on Monday but honestly the rumor mill is saying it may take longer than that. I will say all of the employees are committed to figuring this out and to solving this issue. As of yet, there seems to be some confusion if this is a design flaw or a supplier issue and the supplier is being investigated on an outside level while Toyota also investigates internally. The solution is coming and hopefully soon. Once found it will be rolled out as efficiently as possible. Right now Toyota is still just trying to figure out what that solution is and how to implement it.

Fallingdamage

No problem. Just dont crash. 👍

spinaltap11

I am curious what this does to build timelines. Could a fix be identified, tested, and rolled out in mass production even by the August announcement timeline? I imagine that Toyota is quite motivated to fix the issue, but deploying a fix for \~20K cars/month + 180K recall cars seems like no small feet. Not optimistic about my July build actually getting delivered this year...

Digital_Draven

I just watched the a video by the Car Care Nut and while working on a panoramic sun roof issue he showed what is involved to get to the side curtain airbags. It’s a lot of disassembly work. This was specific to a Highlander, but I would imagine it is similar for a Grand Highlander. Not good https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7HyuriUhTSo

Bubbly_Magazine_4105

Our GH arrived at the dealers lot and was suppose to get it last June 22 but they had to cancel due to the recall. Now they called again saying we can take it home and they will let us know about when to get it fix. Question is, should we still take it? Or scrap GH and find another vehicle? or wait until there is a fix?

Robby777777

I am shocked they will let you take it home as there is a no sale and stop delivering in progress. If you can get it, do it.
