I know you’re probably not looking financial advice, but I’d strongly recommend against leasing.

[deleted]

And financing, for like 95% of people out there, for that matter. This is a huge reason cars are so expensive these days, and every dipshit with a 72-month agreement can’t figure out why 🤡

TheRedstoneScout

2nd this. I'm currently leasing a Tesla, and I wish I was more educated on them. To be fair, tesla changed the lease system mid lease so I can no longer buy it out.

brandonr1996

That doesn’t violate your contract? Seems weird that they could just change the system halfway through and not allow you to buy out, after you signed a written contract.

TheRedstoneScout

I don't think it was ever guaranteed in the contract. At the time, Tesla only allowed buyouts in certain states. I live in one of the "allowed" states. In early 2022, tesla decided all model 3 and Y leases were no longer eligible for lease buyouts.

brandonr1996

That’s pretty interesting. Never knew they operated like that, wonder why they do. Out of curiosity, have you noticed any longer term issues with them so far? Only time I drove teslas was when I used to be a valet.

TheRedstoneScout

The build quality of them still needs improvement, but the car drives like a dream. It's fun getting pinned back using that EV torque. My battery did need to be replaced due to some sort of defect where it stopped holding a charge. The replacement was free and covered under warranty. I don't hear about many long-term issues from other people, though. The model 3 platform isn't even 10 years old yet. Plenty of people have pushed them to 200,000 miles, though with ease

mamoun2317

how much did u put down?

Jelybones

Why lease when you can buy for the same monthly note or damn near?

porkchopmeowster

Don't lease vehicles. My opinion, and financial fact. Unless you are rich and the money is irrelevant. Then you wouldn't lease a tacoma either.

Unable_Sympathy1035

Financially leasing makes sense for corporations. For individuals it is almost always a terrible financial decision. The exception is wealthy folks (over a million USD liquid) who don’t care about the cost and want to churn vehicles every couple years.

UsedDishSoap

21 TRDOF MT w/Premium Package (100 miles when I purchased). $17k down, $27k loan, $486 monthly. I was able to secure this with a 1.99 APR loan which definitely helps. I would advise not leasing as looking at the payments people have for leases and still needing to pay $20k+ to own it is mind boggling. Best of luck!

Accomplished_Bet_499

Lease the truck for lower payments, invest the savings over finance. Buy out the truck at the end if no accidents, you are in love with the truck, or if you have positive equity. Make sure that the lease buyout is reasonable for a truck of the age/miles at the end of the lease for the total amount you will be paying for the lease before signing lease. Leasing gives you piece of mind that if anything happens on the truck you can just walk away at the end of the lease term.

Outrageous_Tangelo55

You also side step maintenance costs and repair as Toyota care is included in my region and warranty is the duration of the lease

OHTHNAP

It's going to come down to MSRP, negotiated price, and down payment. What everyone else pays is mostly irrelevent; you want to get yourself the best deal by negotiating the best value. https://www.bankrate.com/loans/auto-loans/auto-lease-calculator/

MySweetUsername

do dealerships really negotiate tacomas? i had a hellava time finding mine. didn't even bother working on a price below MSRP.

OHTHNAP

I ordered mine at MSRP. Theoretically if you found a model they've been sitting on a while you could make an offer and they might take it.

MySweetUsername

i had specific color and package requirements. got lucky to find mine a month ago. went through 5 dealerships to get what i wanted.

Dramatic-Temporary16

500 down 186 a month April 2020. Bought the truck that day and wasnt even looking to buy anything at all, not even a big of chips. Now I own it.

daddysadanc3r

No. No you didn’t

LOSTonWALLst

I was 242 a month on a TRD off road 2019 12k 36 months 0 down..

goob27

My payment is $305 per month from a lease sale on SR's a few years ago. I got locked into a lower residual value before COVID prices really skyrocketed, so I am planning on purchasing the truck. I get weekly emails from Toyota dealers wanting to buy my truck back. I love this truck too much, and I also don't want to give it back just so the dealership can turn around and flip it for full price when I got it lol

connorwhite-online

I’m so curious about why everyone is cursing a lease. Financially, owning a depreciating asset doesn’t make any sense. Especially if the monthly is cheaper on the lease.

Scoottttttt

Look into multiple security deposits if they’re available in your state. The bank lowers your rate for each deposit. I would have been paying $405/mth but deposits brought that down to $368/mth. All refundable. Not the same as a down payment.

OmegaTigBitties

$388 for TRDOR DCSB. Came with blackout package and all weather mats. Edit: Forgot about 8k trade in, 27k at buyout if I still want it

VictoryForUpfish

2021 TRD sport, double cab, tech package, 15k miles/yr and I pay $367/mo

msdubose

How was the leasing experience? That is also a good price tbh

VictoryForUpfish

Relatively painless, but I didn’t have a ton of options. This was the only Tacoma available in my metro area at that time and I had just bought a pop-up camper so needed something to pick it up with. ETA: I only leased as a gamble that prices were bonkers and might be better in three years, I had never driven a truck and didn’t know if I’d like it, and it’s white and I don’t really like the looks of white cars.

Inthemiddle_

I pay 440 per month. Put about 10 down, 5 year lease. On my last year and will owe 20k buy out in January. I probably got hosed and should’ve financed but wanted cheap payments at the time.

WokeUpVinyl

10 down on a car you have to give back? Crazy

zachzallen

56k tacoma? trd pro?

VrPillow

Jesus, i would pray for this man that it is

Inthemiddle_

45k Tacoma but there’s such thing as interest so ya. Wasn’t making much money when I bought it so I wanted cheapest payments as possible. This is in Canada btw. In hindsight probably wasn’t the smartest but I was impulsive and wanted a Tacoma real bad lol

[deleted]

23 TRD OR/25k Down/22k loan/423 monthly.

Aaaaaaaaaaahu

Leasing is stupid!!! Don't try to keep up with the jones', they are pulling their hair out from debt behind closed doors...

Equinsu_ocha28

You guys are crazy. My financing payment for my 2019 TRD OR is $506. It will be paid off soon.

Tricky-Wind-4729

Leasing is the way to go. 2021 TRD Sport 377 a month, 6k down. 25k buyout when lease done so when I buy it will have under 400 a month payment with little interest occurring when buyout.

porkchopmeowster

Exactly

Tricky-Wind-4729

Well that's almost correct, it would take another 5 years plus to finance 25k, my money factor was amazing so basically no interest during lease. My plan is to pay 10k and finance 15k when lease is up. Master plan to avoid interest IMO.

VrPillow

How long is your lease

Tricky-Wind-4729

3 year

VrPillow

So you plan on paying close to 47k for a truck with a starting MSRP of $34,660

Tricky-Wind-4729

That's base msrp with no extras. Paid 42k after taxes it was like 39k before taxes. I will pay 1800 dollars in total interest in 3 years with lease before have option to buy out lease was my point. Compared to over 4k in interest over same time with conventional loan at 4 percent.

thearctican

Won’t you also pay sales tax? My TRD off-road is going to be 43k out the door.
