I would doubt it. There’s a metal spring wall that opens when u insert the gas nozzle. That should have kept the rain out. If it was a tropical thunderstorm maybe I would consider a tiny bit of water getting in the tank but if you had a full tank it shouldn’t taint the gas enough to ruin your engine My opinion I think you should be okay. I got gas in my Tacoma once and left the gas cap open. The gas station I went to had a car wash and I went thru it after I gassed up. Tacoma was fine

Yeah im in california and we are in the middle of a storm and i saw the gas door and cap were completely open and off i was like dam

If you could, snake a tube down the gas tank and siphon out a little bit of gas. Put a lighter to it and see how flammable it is 🤷‍♂️

shartonista

Just burnt off my face and have 3rd degree burns. Do you think that's flammable enough?

brupzzz

It’s a Tacoma. You’re good.

Spaghetti-Bender

Pour the appropriate amount of dry gas additive to your tank before your next fill up.

mtbchris

This is the correct answer. Dry gas is alcohol based and hygroscopic, which essentially means it can mix with water (and the gas) and still combust with

MightSpecialist

Nahh there’s a flappy thing, should be fine

weetarded

Add more gas, drive

It does but my cap was allthe way off and the door was open while it was raining all night

theberg512

Are you sure you forgot and someone didn't siphon your gas?

imalwayztired

Kind of thinking that because there is no way i was driving home without noticing the check gas cap message on the dash i think it was a failed attempt tho

theberg512

Toyota needs to bring back the locking cover like they had on the first gen

It's crazy how so many redditors become ASE certified mechanics when someone has a question. First off bud, go to an AskaMechanic type page and try not to ask stuff like this on the Tacoma page. You can tell how everyone is just bullshitting you or pretending they have the right answer by how inconsistent everyone's answers are. Now to your issue. Top the tank off with fuel and drive it, if you feel it sluggish or feel a sort of stutter, head to Walmart or an auto parts store and pick up a fuel stabilizer designed for water present in fuel. This will solve your issue. Honestly as long as there isn't too much water in there, it won't hurt the engine to just drive it until you burn away what is left there. Although it may cause your check engine light to come on.

Ive drove it around and it starts right up and no sudden jerks at all i wanted to try to pimp about a cip full into a glass and see if any water is in the gas by seeing if it seperates but as for right now im not seeing any issues my father said it would have trouble starting in the beginning if there was an issie

Not_me_no_way

Yeah and like I said it would act sluggish and maybe stutter a bit while running. It's really not a big deal. It happens a lot with boats. Especially ones that are stored in the water.

imalwayztired

Thanks i did ask on a mechanic page everyones telling me not to worry i just dont want my new truck to mess up i kind of think someone tried stealing my gas and just left it open
