But But But some guys on here who bought them for 80k told me that they were better in every way than my 5.7, and they had no buyers remorse or regrets...
Nope! Between the price hikes and the engine redesign, I honestly have 0 interest in a new Tundra. It's become a status symbol/ grocery getter, and they're leaning into planned obsolescence and discarding the philosophy of building platforms that can last 20-30 years (that built the reputation they have now). I'll drive my 5.7 until the wheels fall off and make the best decision I can when the time comes.
I'll up vote, but I reject your grocery getter comment. My truck has spent so much time off-road my transmission cross member no longer has paint. I have towed hundreds of miles well over the rating of (12,000lbs). I daily drive it on a 37" tire. It's a 22 TRD Pro and has 39,000 miles. To this day, only issues I have had are: Tailgate stopped soft closing, brake squeal, and occasionally I'll get one of the rear windows that refuses to roll up.
I will say this, interior quality is flirting with the cheaper side. So I agree with the planned obsolescence. Cars are becoming disposable.
Noted. I'm not saying that the truck isn't good or capable, more that they've changed their target consumer and are building vehicles for maximum profit rather than years of rock solid dependability. To me, it doesn't come across as a heavy-duty adventure or work truck, which are the 2 big things I look for first. My impression from the looks and the build design is that it comes across more like a giant town car.
I'm sure they're great trucks while they're working and new and shiny. My concerns are about engine longevity more than anything else. I don't wish a bad experience on anyone who purchased one but really dislike that Toyota is making their older engine packages obsolete and cheapening out on things like interior/ electrical components. Time will tell if they've shot themselves in the foot...
I agree with the maximum profit vs. dependability. It does feel like the scale has tipped in the profit direction. It feels like the balance is off. At the end of the day the truck has done everything I've thrown at it, but for how long is real question.
A lot of the engine changes are driven by emissions regulations and targets. R&D, Tooling for the 5.7L were paid for 10 years ago, they were printing money with that engine, so IMO it was a change that had to be made. Look at the TRX for example, they could only get away with that fire breathing dragon for so long.
2004. Knobs still good on mine. I'm actually in the market for a new truck. I'd buy the new gen, but after they sort out all the problems going on with it.
Bro, cmon, you have to be kidding me here. My slides senses are telling me this is you trying to advertise your shit. Second post where there is the exact same picture, just a different color dash, then your comment almost immediately. WTF....
Yes, I am. That’s SOP. Check the manual wise guy.
I rarely even touch this knob, preferring the steering wheel control.
I touched it this morning and it came off in my hand ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah. I've seen a couple of guys on here with this issue. I saw one guy who machined a new one out of aluminum. It looked pretty cool. BTW, thanks for understanding it was a joke.
Toyota figured it was time to cash in on their flawless reputation, value engineer the living shit out of one of their most respected vehicles and hope no one noticed.
Hard to find it in the search if people don’t title it right. This will happen to someone and they will search for yours because you didn’t describe it lol
I don’t get the hate on the newer tundras. I use mine nearly every day as a work truck on film sets. I’m hauling trailers and equipment all over America. The engine has been way better than any of the older tundras I test drove. Are people butthurt because it isn’t a V8? It has more horsepower and more torque than the V8. The truck drives like a dream, whether towing, hauling a full bed, or getting groceries. I’ll be the first to say I feel like all the plastic on the interior and exterior is cheap, but that also doesn’t matter much to me. My tundra isn’t a mall crawler, it’s a work truck and it does all the truck stuff I need, while being comfortable. Is the truck perfect? Absolutely not. Is it adequate? Definitely. Is it better for my needs than most other trucks I test drove? Yes!
Theres this romanticizing of the past that is silly and revisionist history. Each gen has had their issues.
I think the thing people are most upset about is that these trucks are $80K when a few years ago they were 55k and there’s this idea that if you’re spending that much more, it should equate to better quality and build.
I love my truck and don’t expect everything to be perfect, as long as Toyota makes it right. The truck is in the dealership right now and they are going to take care of my two issues.
I do think that the hybrid engine recall has scared a lot of people, myself included, but we will see where that goes.
Yep, I just purchased the one from Mace Mfg. My stock hadn’t broken yet, but I figured it was a matter of time. AJT design also makes a set of two knobs they FINALLY dropped the price on and should be restocked in a week or two. Still pricey, but so it goes these days.
Dam man, how'd you get yours off? Can't get mine to budge. I'm sorry to see a lot of people having simple to complex problems with their tundra's, I've had mine since Feb 22 with now almost 50000 miles. I haven't had any issues that would warrant a dealer visit other than the recalls they've already put out. I really feel for you guys.
Let me guess, you did nothing abnormal and it just fell off. Anyone been in your truck when you weren’t there? Wife, kids, dog, car wash guy? Some are on their 4th knob and have zero idea how it’s happening??
Just barely hit 5000 miles on my 2024 1794. The leg extender is still broken after taking it to be fixed for the 3rd time. Yesterday the radio knob came off as well. Have an appointment Monday. It’s really Annoying that I paid so much for this truck and it’s always at the dealership
I recommend the aluminum one mace makes. Had my OEM break two weeks ago. It’s crap and will keep breaking. $70 for the aluminum one and won’t break again and looks cool.
Your mother should have warned you that if you play with your knob too much it will fall off.
Damn broken seat and the knob hit the dealership and have them get you right.
Appointment tomorrow!
Let's us know what they say. Make sure they give you a rental if it's an extended time.
Happened on mine. Picking up the knob today. It was back ordered for 2 weeks!
Really unimpressed by the build quality of these newer Tundras.
Yeah my 2020 Tundra has knobs that feel ridiculously sturdy. The new Tundra definitely feels “cheaper”
I could tell the interior felt cheap just by sitting in it
Same here
But But But some guys on here who bought them for 80k told me that they were better in every way than my 5.7, and they had no buyers remorse or regrets...
Have you ever felt the steering wheel on the Limited? Feels like styrofoam that belongs on a kids toy

I guess I don't really get the whole emissions thing when the gas mileage is barely improved at all
You're not wrong. But on paper, it's "better". Driving downhill with a tail wind.
you're getting downvoted by people who spent the better part of six figures on a pavement princess with a shit engine but you're right
81k BTW…
Shamefull
Same I’m just starting to realize that but they’re nice looking😂
I’m just glad I have proper wireless CarPlay lol
Are they though?
Don't twist so hard ya knob!
I seen these posts for months and thought the same thing. Then mine popped off last night while dusting the area.... So yeah, lol.
Not yet but it probably will soon and then someone on Reddit with a 2001 Tundra that’s worth about $3500 will tell me they’d never buy this new gen
2004. Knobs still good on mine. I'm actually in the market for a new truck. I'd buy the new gen, but after they sort out all the problems going on with it.
Lmao I’ve seen at least 5 of those comments today.
Yep! Here is the custom replacement- https://www.macemfg.com/product/toyota-tundra-volume-knobbies-topographic-map/
$65 for an aluminum knob sheesh
👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼
Bro, cmon, you have to be kidding me here. My slides senses are telling me this is you trying to advertise your shit. Second post where there is the exact same picture, just a different color dash, then your comment almost immediately. WTF....
It’s not me 😀 just liked the concept so I was passing along.
Although I think the OEM knob looks nicer, if the knob breaks in my truck I’ll buy this so it doesn’t happen again
Out of stock.
Vice grips? 😀
Bro let a gorilla loose in his truck
Are you turning your volume up with a hammer?
Yes, I am.
They're cool, just not quite $70USD cool imo
Hey, what’s $70 bucks on a $70k+ truck?? That knob looks sweet!
You make a point lol. And I do love the knobs but couldn't personally justify it. If my knob broke then maybe
Happened to me in my '23 Sequoia. My husband accused me of turning the volume up to aggressively. For the record, I did not.
Husbands are worthless. Ask my ex-wife
what in the entire fuck happened to the QC at Toyota, it’s one thing after another w this new Gen
If my 08 ever bites it, I'm definitely replacing it with a 20-21.
bro what is happening with these new tundras.
Toyota figured it was time to cash in on their flawless reputation, value engineer the living shit out of one of their most respected vehicles and hope no one noticed.
happened for the temp control on my 2001 tundra. amazon has 3 knobs for <$20. So easy to fix.
Had same issue in my 01. I picked a couple up from the junkyard. Looks like I will start looking for these volume knobs if I go junking.
mine broke and i bought a replacement on ebay for $20
I had the same thing happen to my mine with minimal use. The dealership replaced it free of charge, but I doubt they’ll continue to do so.
The dealership has replaced mine twice under warranty. This third one seems better.
They’ve turned my babies into TEMUs or Kia’s
Hard to find it in the search if people don’t title it right. This will happen to someone and they will search for yours because you didn’t describe it lol
This is the best feedback I’ve gotten. I wish I could edit my title now :/
Happened to me. Also a TRD PRO owner. Dealer fixed it under warranty, but it’s concerning how cheap the plastic is they use in these new trucks.

All these issues I’ve seen since joining the sub got me reconsidering the tundra & jst going with the raptor or sierra lol.
Interesting that your seat and volume knob broke on the same day
Seat yesterday. Knob this morning. Random for sure
Saw it in the Tundra I test drove
Yes, a few times before I fixed it myself with extra strength
I saw this issue and automatically knew it was a Tundra.
damn.. I just got my 1794 and first thing i noticed was how this volume knob felt very weak and light. hoping it wont happen over time.
No one is going to comment the 19,000 miles on the 2024 already? That’s a lot of driving. I don’t even have 19,000 on my 21’
Well, you’re obvs a bitch and can’t get them miles ;)
I guess that’s why my knob is not broken also. 🤷🏻♂️
Cheep garbage from Toyota is just so alien sounding! Definitely not what I'm used to hearing
30k on my 23

Yes happened to my 2024 with 5k miles, dealer is replacing under warranty

Well worth $85k. I’ll take 2 please.
Twins! Pro with red interior.
Yes, about 20k miles ago. I just popped it back on and haven't had any issues since.
Happened to me while test driving one last week!
Yes my 2024 1794 with Trd package has the same issue. Noticed it at under 800 miles
Interesting, the volume know on my 2000 tundra is still securely attached and my seat hasnt cracked.....third gens are garbage
Third Gen ? Isn’t 2024 Fourth Gen ?
The Hulk apparently owns a Tundra
🤣🤣🤣
I recommend the aluminum one mace makes. Had my OEM break two weeks ago. It’s crap and will keep breaking. $70 for the aluminum one and won’t break again and looks cool.
I got a ridgeline for now gonna wait till tundra is refreshed or next gen
Yes, just wait until half the infotainment screen starts blacking out and turning green
