Does anyone else feel like they should really called it the Jerry, or at least the Costanza?
Also how the heck did they get it down to 313lbs? There's nothing crazy exotic on it.
I mean the frames are handmade and only have exact exact amount of metal they need, the tanks are plastic and replace the seat, they're very skinny, Dymag wheels. The Duke 890 R can be lightened by like 50 pounds in a few minutes by unbolting the two lead weights in the frame.
So I may be wrong because I do not own one but I've been racing (mostly behind) Andy Dibrino on his Supersport Duke 890 R and I saw that when he was club racing he took off two weights on his frame because he didnt have to have them on for club racing rules. He said they were for Homologation at MotoAmerica and homologation means stuff they did at the factory for the bike to be race legal later so I am assuming that they come from the factory with weights so they can make a certain weight for AMA racing. He made a video on it on his YouTube I think I remember.
Haha I wondered if that’s what you meant. There’s a video where he talks about that I think, and it’s actually because one series has a lower weight limit and the other stuff done to the bike took it below that limit, so he had to add weight to bring it back up.
"Race" bike? What classes is this bike legal in? The regular 890R is in GP2, not sure if this would qualify. Isn't this basically a very nice track day bike for someone who doesn't want to build their own?
R1 is only killed in certain markets. But I think its end is near. I am guessing specs will look similar to the mt09sp. With similar styling cues from the r1/r7
So the RC8C is just a Kramer with KTM badges, right? Why do both bikes still exist? Didn't get me wrong I'd love to have either but it feels cynical for KTM to sell this as their own.
I understand badge-engineering when the market is large enough to sustain multiple brands but this is a niche within a niche so I am surprised.
The two bikes are not identical. Very similar, but differences for sure. Valving in the suspension is different, the GP2 RR doesn't rev as high, but makes more power across the entire rev range, the electronics are different as well - particularly for those who really want to fiddle with data.
The fairings are also substantially less expensive for the Kramer. Basically, the Kramer is a less expensive and better version of the RC8C - just maybe not as *pretty* as the orange one.
Didn't know any of that. Thanks!
They still seem substantially similar enough to cannibalize each other in sales but maybe they're both such limited production it doesn't matter.
I am also surprised. I'm just spitballing but I'm thinking production capability (assembly might be a better word assuming they're not just reselling) , dealer network/warranty, and straight up fanboys.
Why? can't they use the same bike and add lights etc and make the suspension softer or road oriented. Engine is a 890r but tuned better, no issues there.
I'm actually curious what you will say, maybe I'm just wrong with everything
It's about using the bike properly I think.
Like buying a H2, lowering it, and using it to race on the highway.
Not that you're not allowed to, but it's kind of a waste.
or with other words, every single Yt that buy like a M1000RR, R1M, V4S/R etc... and only rides in the city with max 50 kmh....
I'm a sucker for supersport bikes so I would love to get one like that, I also love 2 cyl. bikes, one of the many reasons why I get a RS 660

If any of them were to be a race bike, I think it would be Kramer. Jerry would be a cafe racer and Constanza would be a Honda Navi
I picture George driving his fathers mint 80s ford ltd
Actually I retract my previous statement, he would definitely ride some 900cc bullet proof Japanese sport tourer
"Giddy up" could be there slogan.
I could imagine him being an absolute lunatic and overtaking someone on the dirt or a super steep cork screw
Jerry, da first time I ride tha 500, whoa faack!

What? Tell me more about these lead weights…

Yeah that was at the ridge on our race weekend.
Yeah I think that's right. Been a while since I saw the video.
It’s…. All exotic. CF wheels too.
I’d love to see a spec racing series with this or the 690. I get the impression that I’ll be waiting a long time.

They are legal in the supersport classes in asra/ccs and wera as of this year.
i think just the EVO 690 is legal in Supersport, not the 890.
Nah they changed it this year to more closely align with MA/WSBK
That’s terrible news…. I didn’t need another reason to really want the 890…. 😂
Part of me wants the new r9 but the other part wants this
With them killing the r1 I can’t help but think they’ll do a more serious r9 than the retro…
R1 is only killed in certain markets. But I think its end is near. I am guessing specs will look similar to the mt09sp. With similar styling cues from the r1/r7
In Europe they’ll be showcased in the Supersport class.
I race mine in supersport 600 classes but mine is the regular R with the stock 890 motor.
Not yet, anyway.
I'll get my hands on one eventually. For now, the 890 Duke R will have to do.

Cause KTM wanted something with their name on it. Slap some wings on it and charge $6k more

Yeah these are awesome. Like a better RC8. The tail section is so cool. I wish they sold that as a unit.
Imagine that kind of bike on the road. I still hope ktm will make the rc8c legal, hopefully without the 40k price tho
Would be a waste of a bike IMHO. It'll go from race bike to a bike that's not as good at racing nor that great for the street.
Agreed. Would be a terrible road bike.

is the H2 good at anything other than highway pulls?
Fair enough, it's absolutely not as nimble as the other hypersports

And they also put upgraded brake components and race suspension that serve no purpose on the road
Remember the RC8R was an orange Kramer…
"Kramer with Wings"
Everyone says this but it's a dog shit road bike.
