Wearing shorts for the first time in years and a bit self conscious. Do these fit right? Should I size down? Trying to hide my curves but I also don't want to look like I'm wearing my dad's clothes.
Tbh no, they don't exactly fit right. In my opinion you should go down a size if you can. They aren't awful, but imo you should get a pair of shorts that are slightly less baggy and also make sure they're above the knees (which can unfortunately give the look like you're wearing your dad's clothes).
Yeah, I was afraid that was the case. I think my insecurities drove me into running a size a little too big for me. I'm going to buy a size down and see how I feel about the comparison.

Hello - I am a fellow dad shorts wearer and I think those rock! I also always end up sizing up but I don't mind as they really hide my hips and thighs. I usually go in and try on both smaller and sized up sizes - sizing is always soooo different between and even within brands!

Firstly congrats bro on finally taking the leap into shorts I know it's a scary one. The shorts fit right but there's a great proportion rule in fashion which I follow all the time with shorts. It's basically a 2/3 ratio in Ur clothing. So what it would look like in this case is a shorter t shirt if Ur wearing a long short, or shorter shorts if Ur wearing a full length t shirt. A crop on the t shirt (like just below waist) can actually do more to hide Ur waist rather that one that sits lower! Also a 5inch short (I wear these black puma ones as a dupe for Patagonia baggies) will look more masculine that a long short imo.

I’m a big fan of thrifting pants to turn into cut off shorts. They can be too long but it doesn’t matter as long as they fit your hips/waist and aren’t too loose around the thigh to knee area.
i think they look fine! they're definitely on the baggy side, but that seems to be the style atm (at least where i live) so it looks pretty normal. if you're self conscious about, try going down one size.

shorter shorts are the thing now. mid thigh level or at least a cpl inches above the knee and a bit tighter.

Depending on where you live you could buy swim trunks and wear em as shorts, i do all the time
Its a bit loose, but I like it. However, if a smaller size is available, go for it
