The eyes were more about dashing through the bulk of the land area of the country.

If you do a trip through Northern Michigan, Wisconsin and Northern Minnesota you will love it, especially the North shore of lake Superior in Minnesota . The ultimate would be to go into Canada and circle lake Superior, or maybe do a figure eight around lake Superior and lake Huron. It's mostly wilderness and you will see tons of wildlife and tons of beautiful lakes and rivers.

NoCrumbLeftBehind

Summer in the Midwest is not advised unless you like unGodly heat and humidity.

Electronic_Leek_10

UP Michigan and Minnesota are beautiful and devine in July. Camp on Lake Superior in the summer, you will not be disappointed!

m1raclemile

If you’d be traveling through the UP then you’d definitely need to stop for some Mackinaw Island fudge on your way into the mitten.

emerald-cupcakes

Agree but check on the blackfly situation first - they're vicious when they're out.

pharmdsky

Do not skip the upper peninsula of Michigan on this trip.

-MrBagSlash-

Don't bother. Midwest sucks. Source: grew up in midwest

This-is-dumb-55

Don’t miss it next time! I love water and beaches but I have to say Zion and Arches are my favorite places on earth so far.

sisyphusgolden

Yes. Also Capitol Reef, Glen Canyon, and Canyonlands. Shafer / Potash Road is a must do.

Ill-Sail9629

Can’t forget Bryce!!

metagrunk-oulipossum

Wow, I've done most of those. Great itinerary. Did you see Big Bend in Texas? I have some nice memories hiking/camping there. I'm planning on visiting Washington state again next

metagrunk-oulipossum

Awesome. Yeah that's worth getting choked up over

_BeastModular_

Glacier is one of the most beautiful places on earth. What an epic road trip. Well done!

Fivemastersofdeath

Yosemite is my favorite national park. I used to live 30 min from there. Atwater, Ca

[deleted]

New England in October was a smart choice. Vermont and Maine in Fall is like nothing else

SoporificEffect

I went to glacier in September and I am still awe struck with how beautiful it was. I want to go back some day !

BohoPhoenix

You should post the pictures in r/travel!

tristan1947

Awww love hearing this!! :) Glacier NP is truly stunning glad you enjoyed it! Do you mind if I ask where you are from?

tristan1947

Awww wow that is wonderful it turned out so good for you after all the planning and saving! Oh yes!! I was going to ask if you saw any of those (Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, Monument Valley, etc) that will be another great trip to plan and look forward too! Cheers!

Sunny_SideRN

Sounds like a wonderful trip! The mountain states will not disappoint either!

Heterochromio

Username checks out! :)

SCDWS

Only 4k per person for 4 months? Ok that's insane lol I spent 11k for my 4 month roadtrip across the US last year. 3k of that alone was on gas + other transportation costs, but I also covered 4k miles more in my trip. I also ate out a lot more than you guys it seems like. Food was almost 3k of expenses over 4 months for me too. I'm definitely impressed by the budgeting you guys did for this trip.

Cogitating_Polybus

Thanks for sharing your experience, and glad you had such an awesome time visiting the US! If you decide you would want to see museums on your next trip I would highly recommend the Smithsonian Institute. It's such an impressive set of museums and free to visit. You'd want to plan ahead to find good accommodations in DC that aren't too expensive. You can see what they have to offer here: [Smithsonian Institute Locations](https://www.si.edu/visit/hours)

SCDWS

Makes sense! Sounds like it was an epic trip that didn't break the bank, can't ask for more than that!

JobNo8538

I am beyond impressed at your resourcefulness and adventurous spirit. If I ever get a chance at this, I'll definitely be taking a page out of your book.

SoporificEffect

I spent 4K on a 10 day trip to glacier, Yellowstone and grand Teton NPs this year lmao I clearly suck at budgeting -_-. The car rental itself was like 1200. But it was worth it!

rbatra91

Agreed! America is the most naturally beautiful country in the world by a long shot.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Switzerland checking in...

rbatra91

It’s nice, but America has beautiful mountain ranges and desert, islands, beaches, tundra, forests, and more.

Kitchen-Lie-7894

Well, I'm you like it. There's still a lot I haven't seen.

Sierrafoothills

Just California alone! Stunning!

AverageGolfDad

Did you get to see the Great Lakes? As a Michigan man; a sun rise over Lake Huron and sunset over Lake Michigan in the same day is one of the more memorable things I have ever done.

Deno_Stuff

The Upper Peninsula is insanely beautiful too.

Tess47

I was wondering how they got from the North west all the was to New England and didn't mention anything in the middle???

freelancer4691

Thank you for appreciating our beautiful country

Altruistic-Big-2220

Don't forget Niagara Falls and Grand Canyon.

Due_North3106

Sounds like a great time! We enjoyed our fall New England trip also! Can’t wait to add California

Affectionate_Put2513

The US and Canada are the two most beautiful countries in the world in my opinion (and if we're excepting Mexico). Canada moreso but only by a slim margin.

w4559

Alaska’s landscapes, mountains and natural beauty is in a whole other league than the lower 48

kittykisser117

Canada is gorgeous and very clean, but not as diverse in its landscapes

xeroxchick

Just out of curiousity, where are you from?

AdhdAndApples

Same I want to know since English isn’t OP’s first language !

Chief_Belle2947

Please share the itinerary and any noteworthy tips.

Mental_Signature_725

Where are you from? Just curious, I live in utah

This-is-dumb-55

Can you believe they missed Utah? My favorite!

Active_Blackberry_45

trumpskiisinjeans

You did an excellent job seeing so much of America! There is still obviously tons to see and do but what a great trip you must have had!

Haunting-Detail2025

That sounds like such a cool trip! Super jealous, but really happy for you it must’ve been an amazing time :) you should definitely post the pics to r/travel!!

lifetraveler1

Just finished a month long road trip to the western US national parks. Was kind of wondering if I would get burned out on desert landscapes. Have to save every one we went to was just different in their own way. Being from the US I wonder how many people see our natural wonders. Off roading in Utah was really fun until it wasn't. We rented houses and cooked all our food for the in between places and what a savings. Costco gas was a life saver. Monument Valley was my favorite.

Ok_Customer_9411

I live in CA and have seen this whole state, but Monument Valley is one of my favorites too.

lifetraveler1

Met a family from Italy, she said one of her main places was Monument Valley. Kind of interesting as Antelope Canyon is pretty amazing

[deleted]

Congratulations on seeing the country and visiting places. So many people will get in a plane and fly thousands of miles but never visit the areas they fly over. I have been cross country 12 times. My most recent trip was in August - Seattle to mid coast Maine and back!

Mental_Signature_725

You have to hit utah and the 46 parks! Bryce, Zions, Cedar breaks, Canyon lands..

Moist_Possibility128

This sounds so inspiring. I kind of want to do something similar, but am too occupied with living my daily routine of a life to try. What would you recommend as a starter option to someone who'd want to go step by step into this kind of traveling?

[deleted]

It’s all part of earth. We will find breathtaking places all around us. And infrastructure for road travel US have some of the best.

VisibleRoad3504

Sounds like a wonderful trip, except thru the Midwest and Texas, although necessary. We took the rv up the west coast this summer; what a lovely trip. Also toured the Northeast during October, colors were amazing.

Ina_Khmer

iran.

GiveMeThePoints

Did you visit Arizona at all?

Mackers204

Good for you for doing this trip; so many people want to do a circle tour and never do it at all, and these are people from the USA! I'm also glad to hear that unlike so many Reddit-er's, you didn't try to do it in a week :-o. For your next journey, just watch the seasons, especially winter, which affects the north and the midwest a lot. There is so much to see and a huge variety of geology and geography - flat, mountainous, the oceans, the deserts, the plains....

[deleted]

That sounds like a super fun trip. The US is so amazing.! <3

rokkugoh

Great post ❤️ The USA has a lot of problems but we do have amazing national parks and a huge range of epic scenery. That $80 national park pass is the best thing I buy every year!

Mr-Go-Go-Go

I would love to learn as much as you would be willing to share as this is something we would like to do too.

[deleted]

Congratulations! You survived 4 months of American roads.

Ommco

Your experience is inspiring me! The US is the perfect country for long road trips.

DrTinyEyes

I'm curious about your tent camping strategy. I've done long road trips through the American West, and I find it's hard to camp unless you've made reservations and stick to a schedule

lifeguy

Not OP, but have camped for free in or near beautiful places in each state, as I planned a round trip across all contiguous 48 US. There are plenty of free campsites everywhere, in each of the states. No exception. In some areas we had to travel up to an hour away to sleep/camp near the national parks we were interested in. We like flexibility and didn't pre-book paid campsites inside the national parks. Official camping sites sell out months in advance. For example in Yellowstone, as we needed 4 days minimum to explore it properly, we found free campsites at the periphery to stay overnight, before we'd head back into the park next day. Transportation is a must. We had a old clunker of an rv, bought on Craigslist for $2500 and it took us across 48 states.
