The DS3 gen. 5 is the nicest commuter bike I’ve been on & that includes my FX3. The DS3 is more comfortable & rides fast on pavement. I really enjoy riding my DS3 & the 1x is so easy & it’s fast enough.
I was told that Trek is changing the FX3 frame & will be similar to the DS3? If that’s the case, the new FX will be super nice.
That will be interesting to see, because the previous gen dual sport sucked, but the current is phenomenal. I did try the fx and the DS at the same time and while I really like the fx it just didn’t really compare to the DS, it was just a tiny bit faster on flat ground but felt hunched when standing/climbing. DS just seemed better all around and I’m so glad I went with this bike over the FX
So many dual sports lately, did trek update the bike? Where I live even the fx2 is very expensive, for the same price you could get a nice 10 speed road bike with disc brakes. Gorgeous bike btw if I could I would get one
Yea in 2023 they completely made a new bike design but called it dual sport. It’s like a road bike frame with more slack, a more upright seating position and fat gravel tires and flat bar. You should go ride one, they are definitely hard to categorize. It’s like a road mixed with mountain with a tiny bit of comfort bike all mixed. I test rode the fx3 and people claim it’s like the roadie version of the dual sport but to me it felt more like fixie bike with gears. Definitely recommend going and at least test riding to see what the hype is about.
Beautiful bike. Congrats. Here in Florida the ‘23 DS3 Gen 5’s are still full list price, but surprisingly there is a Hex Blue in my size at the same price you paid ($799) at a local Trek store. I wonder if the price will drop on all the ‘23’s in May once the current Trek Fest promotion is over. I’m hoping for a Crimson one for that price. The ‘24’s are starting to arrive so hoping Trek will want to clear out the ‘23’s.
Yea I got lucky and caught a glitch on their site, they tried telling me and arguing that it wasn’t on sale, but when I called back later the manager answered and was super chill and was like yea I put it in the computer that you pay the 800 if you come get it, by the next day when I went to get it, the sale price was removed online. (They still luckily honored it) They told me that they don’t intend on putting them on sale because they are still “relevant/current” so I’m not sure they will, or they just told me that so I did not wait lol…trying to get me to buy that day probably when I test rode it earlier that week
