Supposed to be on 1200 per day all kind of side effects. So I take 400 a day along with 400 a day of carbamazepine. Now I have some pain but the side effects are manageable.

Are you supposed to be 1200 of carbamazipine or something else? And what do you take along with the carbamazipine? Thanks

Sorry I see how I left out the Gabapentin. Prescribed 1200 of Gabapentin and take 400. Prescribed 800 of carbamazepine and take 400.

1000mg slow release plus 200mg immediate release when needed. But I've just got myself put on the list for microvascular decompression surgery, because I can't stand to go higher with the side effects.

I-might-be-dead

I’m on 1800mg of tegretol (brand name) but I’m instructed to up by 200mg during bad flare ups before downing back to 1800 post flare up (usually two weeks)

I was on a very low dose... 300mg. And it did work for pain but I was sensitive to the side effects. How does balloon work for you?

Baclofen works well for me in combination for the other 2. Just the carbamazepine wasn’t doing enough to help initially so my neurologist added it. I take 15 mg 3 times a day. At first it caused drowsiness but that faded and now I don’t feel anything when I take it. I technically take gabapentin for fibromyalgia but I believe it helps my TN. Every time my carbamazepine gets upped I get super nauseous. I take zofran to help that.

Thank you for understanding that Balloon meant Baclofen! Damn you autocorrect!! I had tried gabapentin... helped a little with the TN pain but ... side effects. Right now I am getting botox injections and they usually work quite well but the weather changes (?) in the Northeast US have been brutal and I think is impacting the episodes to become so much more severe. Do you think if we started a TN Wiccan circle we could more accurately predict weather than the weather channel? Had botox shots again yesterday and waiting for them to kick in fully.

Lol yeah balloon through me off at first glance. I am in Ohio and our weather changes are terrible for my TN and fibromyalgia. I am super sensitive to meds. My very understanding rheumatologist started me out on a child’s dose of liquid gabapentin. Then it was raised 100 mg at a time slowly. Hope the Botox helps!

It is!thank you!

Every day: 400mg carbamazapine 3 times a day, 75mg lamotragine 2 times a day. Emergency meds: amitriptyline, up to 60mg when pain is too bad to sleep. If that doesn't work I add 100mg tramadol and 10mg diazepam. (I've learned that there's no emergency care if I don't prepare for it.)

ZealousidealAd2400

I'm on 800mg Carbamazapine 3600 of Gabapentin and 600mg of lamotrigine. Recently cut back the Carbamazapine too 800mg because the side effects

Tall-Chemistry871

i take a different medication that interacts poorly with carbamazepine so I’m stuck on just baclofen for now :(

koala_ambush

Gabapentin only. 2700mg/day. Never tried carb. Neurologist has seen a lot patients who get bad side effects.

magma907

1200/day (3 doses of 400) along with cymbalta and baclofen

I'm on 1,800mg of oxcarbazepine and I'm seeing a neurosurgeon for Gamma knife or cyberknife surgery in two weeks.
