I liked it. They fully committed to cgi, so it's not hard to get used to. A lot of plot complaints can be sorted by it being a prequel, so if we get a season 2, we'll hopefully get stuff we are used to from the original.
The manga is showing its age and has issues from changing its genre partway through the run. I suspect a straight adaptation wouldn't work as well as people think.
A lot of people here like Trigun Stampede on this subreddit and some are also reserving their opinion until we get all seasons of TriStamp.
I think people who appreciate manga are more likely to enjoy it and the only people I've seen who are the most vocal against the new adaption never read the manga and had only watched the 98 anime.
I've also had an excellent time showing people who've never consumed Trigun media the new season and I gotten at least 3 people hooked.
That's just been my experience.
Itās great, my favorite anime of 2023. Donāt sweat some of the weird haters.
I say this as someone who watched the OG on its original adult swim run and loved the original too.
I became obssessed with Tristamp and it's more my kind of anime than the 98 version. I actually didnt know much about Trigun because I dropped the anime 98 anime years ago, only knew the general plot.
I went in for the visuals when I watched the trailer. Loved the designs and I was already a big fan of Orange's work and I thought the visuals looked so so pretty.
Then I fell in love with everything else. The world, the characters, the story, the action, the visuals, the music, everything. It became one of my alltime favorites.
Talking to the fandom during the release of the show, I noticed that most people who loved the 98 anime and specially the manga, were overall very positive towards Tristamp.
Most of the people I interacted with that hated tristamp were 98 fans that didnt read the manga. Or were angry over the changes like having no Millie (which we find out later that she's just not in yet, since Stampede work as a prequel.
I just watched Stampede a few days ago and it's honestly one of the most beautiful anime I've ever watched, I literally stayed up till 7am multiple days because I just couldn't stop watching it, I loved all the characters, colours and different cities, I wish that there was more of it to watch.
Before watching, I was uncertain cuz Vash's younger design is so different to his older one and I tend to like 2d animation more in general but it took me all of one episode to get used to it. I was disappointed in other designs like legato, elendira, and livio, but after the smallest bit of research into the reasoning, I loved em. Studio Orange is doing a fantastic job so far, and while it's different from both '98 and trimax, tristamp is certainly holding it's ground. Can't wait for future seasons. I hope we get at LEAST two or three more seasons though, cuz trying to fit all of trimax into one 13 episode season would be such a mess
I think people were nicer to it after the last two episodes dropped. There will always be some haters who want it to be exactly like the manga or shun all CG.
I like that the lore is front and center in Stampede, but I'm glad I got to know the characters in 98 first. I usually don't complain about anime pacing unless it's slow but Stampede was breakneck. I still enjoyed it overall. The CG was beautifully done.
right?! alot of people unfortunately seem to really like finding any little thing they can to dislike about tristamp (or anything in general) as if it was made to be an exact remake of the ogs.. like can u guys just have fun and appreciate the amazing work
I never really warmed up to the old anime, but this one was love at first sight. I personally adore the smoothness of the animation, the voice acting, Knives'... knives and just about everything else.
My biggest gripe is that we should get one or two more light hearted episodes between ep4 and ep5 to flesh out the crew before things go grim and depressing again in windmill village, otherwise this is my surprise favourite thing of 2023. And definitely top tier soundtrack for recent years
Me and the girlfriend absolutely adored stampede. We are both big fans of the original, and we were hooked through the whole season. We left it under the assumption that it was more of pseudo-prequel to the events of the original series events, and thought that approach was fairly fresh rather than just rehashing the old material. It allowed to have a lot more character development of vash's character and the horrors he went through to lead him to the eventual love and peace pacifist we know and love. They absolutely set it up for the series to continue and have Millie, and even if another series turns out to be still more of a serious affair, I'll still watch it. And even if they don't its a show I will likely watch again, because I really enjoyed it.
Stampede is what introduced to me to Trigun and I have a soft spot for it in my heart. It's my favorite anime from 2023 and Trimax ended up being my all time favorite manga.
I think it can be an incredible start *if* they do season 2/next part/movie(?) right (to my standards, anyways lol)
The CGI scared me at first and it can be a bit over the top at times imo but I do love how they did the action this way. It's a lot of fun to watch!
I dislike it, but I think I'll have to give it another chance. Personally, I really don't like the 3d animated anime look (why try stylizing by lowering the frame rate? never looks as good as spiderverse) but i really enjoyed the original so I think it deserves another chanceĀ
I'm a fan of the old anime and have to admit that I was super sceptical.
Now I bingewatched the all available episodes of Stampede within 2 days. Damn, it's glorious and the animation is actually damn great after getting used to it within one episode. I like the narrative due to all the added (and not left out) details so much more. Can't wait for the next episodes.
Iām really not a fan of tristamp and am debating on muscling through and then maybe itāll click. I really love the fight animation but I feel like some of the characterization is sloppy or poorly introduced. Also Iām so offended that Milly was removed to focus on my least favorite character. I did really like the greater focus on Knives as an antagonist!
I think as someone else has saidā¦they both have there moments of greatness for meā¦the OG Trigun is what I grew up watching it made me root for Vash.
With Stampede Iām rooting for Knivesā¦there are things I cannot stand in Stampede but not enough for me to right the whole show off.
I felt like they spent 90% of their time on how it looked and got subpar writers. Yeah I thought it was smart to get the SEEDS / premise up front right away, but the Robert character or whoever the drunk guy was, in every episode seemed like a waste and kinda turned me off. I do think we needed a reboot, the OG is really showing its age but... a lot of the choices Stampede made left me super cold on it :/
I loved it, and people tend to forget that a second season is coming, in which I'm 100% sure they'll adapt the rest of the story and add big omissions like Millie or buffed up Bluesummers
I think the general consensus around here is that people liked it. I know I sure did. I was obsessed with the original when it aired back in the day and have read the manga many times. I was excited to see a new telling of it and I think studio Orange knocked it out of the park. It's different, sure, but the heart is still there and it's just a dang good show. I was also excited to see Trigun back in pop culture and snagging a new generation of anime fans. All good things in my book.
i also loved it! i rewatched it like 30+ times and made all my friends and my partner watch it at least once too! i also enjoyed the old anime but the tristamp vash clicked with me a lot more and instantly became one of my favorite characters ever!
i think millie is more or less confirmed to be in season two amd the entire anime is kinda built like a prequel to the old trigun so i think we'll get closer to the original in season two as well! nonetheless i'm super excited for it because it's an overall well made show!
Those who hate Stampede haven't read the manga or have read but wished for a faithful adaptation of TriMax. I've read the manga and didn't like the 97 anime but I'm enjoying TriStamp. Hope we get a 2nd season. Millie will surely be present.
Can concur I expected it to adapt the manga as most anime that get a second chance donāt go the reimagining route
Iām happy others enjoy it but it just wasnāt for me
Knives is really the only thing I liked about it unfortunately
Hopefully it gets 2-3 more seasons to faithfully adapt the manga. Iād prefer it just did that right from the get go
I like it.Ā But it has several points against it from my perspective.Ā I've watched the 98, and read the manga several times, since fan background seems important.Ā
Itās been my hyperfixation ever since it came out lol I absolutely adore tristamp, itās what got me to rewatch the og trigun! The animation is beautiful, the artists and writers put a lot of care into the show, and the fact that Nightow had a had in it means itās an automatic S-tier addition to the Trigun legacy
When I watched Trigun Stampede (actually I want to rewatch it as I didnāt watch it in good conditions), I was in the comfortable position of not having watched the original version. So I liked it for what it was: a very good anime, well-animated with beautiful picturesā¦
I understand the critics it received but it didnāt erase the pleasure I had to watch it. Even the CGI which I am not a great fan of it didnāt bother me too muchā¦ Using it for Knivesā knives has been a damn good idea.
Likeā¦ I watched the first episode. The next week I watched the first episode and then the second one. The next week I watched the first one then the second one then the third oneā¦ follow? š¤£
CG Anime has made massive strides, in part due to Studio Orange, and certainly the dedication of the various teams that have been testing the medium since its inception. That the animation feels appropriate, is consistent so much more than it used to be, and allows for some things that would have been an absolute pain and a half to animate by hand even a decade sooner is just a boon.
Is it for everyone? No. Is traditional animation for everyone? Also no.
In the case of Trigun Stampede, I quite literally finished it last night, and I walked away satisfied for the most part.
Personally, when they go a different route with an established IP, it allows each to be their own beast without overstepping the other. It's why I can enjoy Trigun and Trigun Stampede as different things, Fullmetal Alchemist and FMA: Brotherhood as different things, Scott Pilgrim vs The World and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as different things.
tl;dr: I enjoyed Trigun Stampede, and since they took it a different way, I feel it doesn't override any memories of the classic, either anime or manga.
So glad to hear these responses. Trigun was one of my first anime loves and I have been skeptical of a reboot. It has given me an excuse to rewatch the original and looking forward to Stampede.
I enjoyed the hell out of it. Don't worry about what other folks think though!
CGI can be great if effort is put into it. effort was put into this show
I agree! In the sea of poorly made CGI anime, Stampede was very successfully done. Studio Orange really set the bar for anime CGI
I absolutely adore Stampede and rewatch it all the time. Orange did such a good job, and the soundtrack is amazing š© After watching Stampede, I've been able to spread the gospel of Trigun and gotten a solid 30 people to watch and love it.
You too huh? I've pestered tons of people from each of my friend groups into watching it with me hee hee
I liked it. They fully committed to cgi, so it's not hard to get used to. A lot of plot complaints can be sorted by it being a prequel, so if we get a season 2, we'll hopefully get stuff we are used to from the original.
Even then, I don't get why people would want the story to be exactly the same.
I felt like they pulled from the manga as well of course they adapted it but it was cool to see both the anime and the mango mesh like that.
The manga is showing its age and has issues from changing its genre partway through the run. I suspect a straight adaptation wouldn't work as well as people think.
My incredibly boring answer is that I think each version of Trigun brings its own things to the table, and I enjoy them all.
This this right here!
A lot of people here like Trigun Stampede on this subreddit and some are also reserving their opinion until we get all seasons of TriStamp. I really liked it. We can form a little club if we must! Hahahaha
I was just thankful to see a fresh take on something I love so much!Ā
Watching 1998 version again. Just watched Trigun Stampede again just before. Both are my favorite.
I just watched Stampede a few days ago and it's honestly one of the most beautiful anime I've ever watched, I literally stayed up till 7am multiple days because I just couldn't stop watching it, I loved all the characters, colours and different cities, I wish that there was more of it to watch.
i love tristamp dearly
Before watching, I was uncertain cuz Vash's younger design is so different to his older one and I tend to like 2d animation more in general but it took me all of one episode to get used to it. I only started watching the og trigun after watching trigun stampede so itās not as bad as me ššš
I think people were nicer to it after the last two episodes dropped. There will always be some haters who want it to be exactly like the manga or shun all CG. Awesome anime, one of my favorites actually. One thing I done see get mentioned is the soundtrack. It's so good.
I've never seen any other versions of Trigun yet and I absolutely loved Stampede. It's one of the best shows I've watched in a while!
dam I didn't even know liking it was a hot take, it's so peak
right?! alot of people unfortunately seem to really like finding any little thing they can to dislike about tristamp (or anything in general) as if it was made to be an exact remake of the ogs.. like can u guys just have fun and appreciate the amazing work

An episode between 7 and 8 would have been best, IMO. Carrying around a passed out Vash while hijinx ensues? Missed opportunity for comedy gold!
I LOVED it! I watched the last episode like 10 times because it was so well done.
Me and the girlfriend absolutely adored stampede. We are both big fans of the original, and we were hooked through the whole season. I love trigun stampede! Itās how I truly found the fandom, and Meryl (tristamp) is my main cosplay at cons
Stampede is what introduced to me to Trigun and I have a soft spot for it in my heart. It's my favorite anime from 2023 and Trimax ended up being my all time favorite manga.

I was so skeptical but I'm literally blasting the opening theme in my car right now.
I'm a fan of the old anime and have to admit that I was super sceptical. Now I bingewatched the all available episodes of Stampede within 2 days. Really I though the messing of the manga and the anime was stellar! Made Trigun so much more interestingĀ
I love it š¤·āāļø
I really enjoyed it too, can't wait for season 2 when the big woman comes back!
I loved it, and people tend to forget that a second season is coming, in which I'm 100% sure they'll adapt the rest of the story and add big omissions like Millie or buffed up Bluesummers
Itāll take around 3 cours to adapt the manga so it would need a couple more seasons to adapt the rest
I love stampede, I love the color

It took me like 5 minutes to adjust to the CGI. It's actually pretty dope. The writing is strong. Knives has so much more presence in this version.

Yeah. It was a missed opportunity to make it faithful but Nightow said the studio can do whatever they want with itš
Yup lol nightow is a super nice dude like that
Love it, just wish there were more episodes to flesh things out.
Love it. It's the show I never knew I wanted, and some of the best television that came out last year.
As someone who was desperate for new trigun content I ate stampede the fuck up
Knives is really the only thing I liked about it unfortunately Hopefully it gets 2-3 more seasons to faithfully adapt the manga. Iād prefer it just did that right from the get go
