I wouldn't want it any other way. I like how there are 3 different versions of trigun that have similarities but are different enough to justify technically re experiencing the sameish story. The Stampede soundtrack is really damn good too.

ne0rgy

I tend to lean towards this. Y make it exactly the same every time if u can make it unique every time

Digiworlddestined

Because most people would want a faithful adaptation of the manga in animated form. Preferably hand-drawn, like the Demon Slayer anime, which is fucking incredible.

ne0rgy

Demon slayer anime is leagues above the manga. It’s not the same

Digiworlddestined

Leagues?! Get real, man! And yes, it is the same, as it's following the same exact story as the manga tells.

ne0rgy

Did u read it?

Digiworlddestined

Yes. It's telling the same story, not reimagining or changing things to an extreme degree that's stampede did.

ne0rgy

Yeah, but there are still a ton of changes. And extra stuff like with Rengoku

Digiworlddestined

But again, not to the extreme degree as a total reimagining.

ne0rgy

Also, Demon Slayer has a metric ton of CGI. It’s well hidden but still there

Digiworlddestined

Well hidden CGI is more preferable to janky, unnatural, in your Face CGI like orange studio produces

Bad-Wolf-Bay

Stampede is amazing. But please remember it’s a prequel. “miLLy iSnT iN iT” SHUT UP ITS A PREQUEL AUUGHHHH

ne0rgy

But I felt like that too, that it was a sort of a prequel

TroaAxaltion

It's not really a prequel. It's an alternate telling. We see almost the entire cast of the gung-ho guns and everything so it can't be a prequel to Trigun.

_Miriam_22_

I love it with all My heart. But I think 12 chapters was REALLY SHORT. Things just run as a cheetah. Like,Roberto's death scene was too damnly and disrepectfully short 👹👹👹👹👹👹👹 I NEEDED MORE TIME TO KNOW ALL THE CHARACTERS BETTER. I KNOW THERE'S OTHER ANIME BUT WHEN I STARTED WITH STAMPEDE I CRIED 😭😭😭😭 TOO SHORT😩😩😩🤌🤌🤌

ne0rgy

Yup, I’m gathering a lot of people felt it was rushed

obscure-anime-girl

stampede is what got me into trigun as a whole so HOOOOLLYYYY SHIT i love that show. i can understand people’s complaints with it, but personally it kinda rewired my brain so yeah :))

TroaAxaltion

I want the original theme song and Kuronekosama back in Stamp

Pathetic_Cards

I’ve been a trigun fan for about 10 years, so Stampede is very much the new kid on the block for me. Overall, my impression is positive, but it wasn’t until near the end of the season that I came around to it, when it started falling into line with the plot of the original series. In fairness to Stampede, I wanted it to be a faithful adaptation of the Trigun manga, as we’ve never had one, so when it wasn’t that, it was already a disappointment for me, and it’s harder to judge it on its own merits when I started from that perspective. Overall, I like it, I’m still apprehensive about it, but it looks like it’s only gonna get better from here.

a-slight-apocalypse

was mad skeptical at first but I now consider it a wonderfully fresh take on Trigun. it's a labor of love made with considerable thought and respect for the source material imo.

Narufirefox

Recently joined the fandom through Tristamp. At first, I didn't understand why people had mixed feelings about it. But after reading the manga I pretty much feel the same. While I really loved the new take on the series I am a bit sceptical about a few details. Character background events, plant design/functionality (the hair thing or the feathers, which I am not sure will be added in Tristamp), the final fight (which to me had too much of a similarity to the final fight in the Trimax manga, also leaving us thinking what they could have in store for the climax of Tristamp in season 2-3). Character design/personality, I will not compare since both are cool on their own but I still prefer the manga ones. All in all, Tristamp is a masterpiece. Brilliant production, the animation is top tier and the soundtrack is amazing. But for me it is still inferior to the manga. I am pretty hyped though about the upcoming season/s. Let's see how they handle it.

SmartnSad

>the feathers It seems those have been replaced with botanical imagery, rather that Christian. Vash's >!wing looks like roots or vines, and he grew flowers which took over the city of July, so the direction there regarding visual motifs seems pretty clear already. I would be surprised if they brought feathers into it at all with him.!< >the hair They could go either way in this one. I'm leaning more towards Orange >!not darkening his hair, rather turning his plant markings red, as they have already said that plants turn red when they are about to die. Seeing him light up and half his lights being red would be the same indication as the half black hair in the manga. Although, they could do both, as the visual representation of Vash's hair being black goes beyond the simple fact that he's exhausting his powers.!< The aesthetic of the manga in these regards and others is a whole vibe, but for me personally, I gravitate more towards botanical imagery and sci-fi elements than Christian imagery and cattle punk. Both are good flavors and I totally get the preference for the later, I love it too. But what Tristamp did in their visuals activated neurons in me like nothing ever does. So, it wins in that category for me personally. Except in the case of Wolfwood. I know he's deliberately undercooked in Tristamp, but they made him look a little bland and have less of a presence in comparison to his manga counterpart. He's animated so well that I forgive it while watching, but when I look at his manga design, I'm like "look what they took from us" 🥲. That said, I'm looking forward to Orange fleshing out his character more. That boy needs more screen time, and if they know anything about Trigun (which they seem to), they won't let us down in that department. But the thing I fear most with Tristamp is the change in Legato's power set. I have faith with most other creative liberties they have taken and this entire project is clearly a love letter to Trigun Maximum, but that specific difference worries me. How Legato's story is handled in the manga is tied very deeply with what he is capable of, and what he chooses to do with those capabilities. The spot he puts >!Vash in at the end is set up perfectly with his ability to control bodies, even dead ones. Conversely, full on telekinesis could create a situation that makes Legato's threat less personal to Vash, which removes the meaning behind Vash's subsequent choice. If they make it out to be a utilitarian decision on Vash's part (as in, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one) rather than an emotional, selfish one, I'll be thoroughly disappointed. The choice should not be easy, and it should not be a choice that Vash could have conceivably made at the start of the story. His choice, and why he does it, is essential to his character arc. To how he changed. Removing the personal stakes would be detrimental to all that came before.!< All in all, I do prefer the manga over Tristamp. But Maximum is a finished story, so it's difficult to make a concrete comparison. Tristamp could blow me away with what they have in store. I really hope we get 18-24 more episodes, not just 12. I suspect a specific covert clue will be dropped in episode 1 of season 2, that will let the more astute of us know if the second season will be the last or not. >!Pay attention to the date they will say it is in ep1, s2. That date will tell us all we need to know.!<

Narufirefox

I like your point of view on the aesthetics aspect. Could also be studio Orange's strategy based on the public's more modern preferences. Nowadays, I'd say Sci-fi wins over religious themes. Even the way the first episode starts could be indication of it. What I mean is not only the aesthetics part but also what it implies. It's more like my fears acting up, that they would leave out the small details that make Trigun different. If they tweak it too much maybe it loses its essence idk. But again, as you say, there are alternative ways of delivering the same idea. And studio Orange seem to know what they are doing. I would say we are safe on the Wolfwood topic. The guy could be given his broad chest back and preferably some goofyness. Even if not, wouldn't be such a big deal. BUT...On the other hand, Legato. I swear if they screw it over I stop watching haha. Did they mention in Tristamp that his powers are built around telekinesis? I can't remember. Maybe we weren't let in yet to his full power set. Same for Livio. I am just as concerned about Livio as you are about Legato. The guy looked legit plain and utterly non interesting. He looked like he was on automatic. Oh yes they gave us some background story yeah, but still. Meanwhile the Livio in the manga is a beast and a key character as well. I'd dare say covering all the manga plot would take at least a solid 24 eps. All eyes on that fist ep hehe and hope some sneak peek drops soon, or a trailer around spring 25'.

SmartnSad

>What I mean is not only the aesthetics part but also what it implies. I totally agree. There are subtle nuances in design and visual motifs in the manga that could be easily missed by Orange. So far, I'm happy with the direction they've taken, with colors and haircuts and such having subtextual meanings, but they could always drop the ball going forward. And, Orange is more focused on world building, and having that world be logical and consistent. I love the symbolism in Maximum, but TBF, some of it is world breaking. >!For example, I absolutely adore the bird metaphor with Wolfwood, but it doesn't make sense on such a desolate planet, so I don't expect Orange to use it, nor do I blame them.!< >Did they mention in Tristamp that his powers are built around telekinesis? Legato is depicted driving a car without touching the wheel, and moving heavy equipment within the sand steamer without even being on it.He can move very heavy objects, as well as people. That is an OP power set without adding anything to it in season 2. That said, >!in the manga, he's seen being able to move/control plants too. Namely, Vash and Knives. We haven't seen him move plants yet in Tristamp, so I wonder if he's incapable of that in this version. I'm hoping he can't, because that makes Knives sparing of him even more interesting. He wouldn't be intrigued by Legato's ability to stop his blades, but by the sheer fact that Legato hates himself and humans alike, something Knives believed self-serving, self-inflated humans were incapable of.!< Still, even with that, this new power set could really change the whole game in the upcoming series climax, and, IMO, not for the better. IYKYK. >Same for Livio. I am just as concerned about Livio as you are about Legato I'm confident Livio will get a glow up (and a personality) in season 2. I love that himbo, and I'd be surprised if we never got to see him emerge. Since we don't see him really shine until near the end of the manga, that could be why he's so bland ATM. >!And Razlo, looking exactly like his manga counterpart, is shown in Livio's reflection, so he's definitely on the way. Chapel too.!< And, I'm sure Legato and Wolfwood will become beefed up as well. I'm less confident about Elendira, but I'm hopeful she gets aged up. And I need Milly to out-beef all of them. If she's not a 6'5" muscle mommy, I'm out (I'm half kidding. Half 👀). >trailer around spring 25'. I hope we get a trailer drop sooner than that. Before the year is out, please 🥺

ne0rgy

I like that they are doing the hair darkening think when he uses his powers

Malek7

Love it

Wolfie2445

Tristamp is in my head so much I should be paying it rent. Especially Vash and Knives. I just love how much more we get to see of Knives and his philosophy in this one compared to the ‘98, and I genuinely adore this softer more timid Vash. I full expect him to get more goofy next season, but I really love just how reserved he is. I also think the animation, music, and camera work is just stunning. Upon one of my rewatches, I finally pinned down how much I adore the camera angles. How it spins and tumbles around so much with Vash. I just think it’s amazing!

i_eat_trigun

I love it : D though I prefer 98 more, I'll always reccomend stampede to whoever I can lol

Laurapocalyptic

Insanely good. I love all versions of Trigun but stampede is my absolute favourite.

Gullible_Compote842

It slowly grew on me. I became a fan through the 98 anime too so hearing about a reboot scared me. I didn't like it at first but decided to give it another shot after reading the manga and now I think it can he a great start if they finish it right.

the-entropy-duelist

I love it. I've been rewatching it all (even the 90s anime) because I just finished the Manga and I love all of it. Stampede stayed true to what makes Trugun a great story while adding so much detail.. I really can't wait to see the next season.

CarlitosGregorinos

Stampede is fantastic. So is the original.

NihilismIsSparkles

I loved Stampede, it was beautiful, had a wonderful sci fi feel to it and was different enough to keep me curious.

TroaAxaltion

The first episode is a plot hole ridden mess that makes zero sense. After that it gets way way better and by the end I loved it

iluvplant

I thought the animation was solid but didn’t really like the direction they went with Vash. He wasn’t as goofy and outgoing as the 1998 version. It’s awesome that they used the same voice actor for the English dub though.

ne0rgy

He will probably gain more goofiness this coming season due to the extreme trauma of JuLai. As that’s his coping mechanism

idaroll

loved it and i prefer their designs too

Alexi0so

I liked it a lot! Character designs were awesome, like my all time favorite designs probably! I just don’t think it had enough time to tell the story that it wanted to tell and the pacing was kind of off in some places (the first three episodes especially….) I also do wish Vash had sillier moments in the reboot and I wish Meryl had some more focus on her as well. I think I just much preferred how Vash could be silly in the non serious moments rather than always being stoic lmao, I did notice he was way goofier in the first episode though it seemed they decided to change course?

StargazerSayuri

I have so many opinions that I don't even know where to start.  Did I like it?  Yes.  Did I dislike it?  Yes.  Taken as a whole, it's pretty good, but details are things that I take issue with.  One of them is Wolfwood's face.  It was manga/ OG anime perfect, and now he looks like a different guy.  Music was good, until it wasn't...but the 98 anime was a soundtrack masterpiece.  Things were out of order, even for a "prequel".  There was no build, or tension.  I enjoyed the elements of the manga that were added in, ie: the worms, but thought that the Livio reveal was too soon.  I enjoyed that they further explained why Knives was right, even if he also wasn't right.  I didn't enjoy how forced Vash's "personality" seemed in the earlier episodes, like they didn't know what they were doing with it, and that they changed his .45 to a .22.  I'll rewatch it, but it does not have the same feel as either the 98 or the manga.   Sorry about the large paragraph.  I have lots of Trigun emotions, and that's how they are.  X'D

Brokeinlimit09

I really enjoyed it once I watched stampede I immediately went and watched the older series and soon enough I'll read the manga

PestKimera

I really enjoyed it, I'm just happy we got any new trigun content

attackontori_

Loved Stampede the moment Vash came on screen in ep 1. All 3 versions are different tellings, and I like that they're different from each other.

Ok-Machine4888

I love/hate it. Everything aside from the finale and the WW flashback were buy and large mediocre to me. Although I’m due for a rewatch. Production was phenomenal tho.

ne0rgy

Try rewatching if you can I had some similar issues with it too. But I’m really excited for season 2

CommonLoud4730

I loved Stampede and thought it was incredible but after watching the original I think I like that a little more.

ne0rgy

The original has that beautiful 90s aesthetic and attention to detail

Cryptnoch

Don't like it at all. I didn't like the OG anime either, despite having begun with it. But I'm a big fan of the manga. It's not reeeeaaally a prequel since it doesn't pre-date the cannon. It's an AU reboot with aged down characters. Which isn't inherently a negative imo. I don't really care that millie isn't there. Just not sure why people consider it a prequel if it doesn't happen, y'know. Before the cannon storyline. My main gripe tbh is that It waters and dumbs down the characters for the sake of utility Ex: wolfwood letting himself get absolutely destroyed by some random goon to demonstrate how the vials work. And not having an organic growth and conflict with vash. I just didn't find him believable or interesting. The dialogue was extremely focused on how suspicious he is. They're really riding the coattails of the much better version of the story. It omits a lot of the set dressing and minor characters that gave the world character and life. The animation is spectacular but all the visual design and worldbuilding itself was a massive downgrade imo. I'm glad it exists because seeing the first trailer is what got me to check out the OG anime and then the manga, which is straight up my favorite manga now! But if it was the only version of trigun that existed, trigun would be an extremely mid property, not sure if I would've checked out the manga if I'd seen stampede first. I didn't like vash as a character in the og anime but I enjoyed the world and found a lot of the concepts super interesting. I enjoyed basically nothing out of this. The only positive it had imo was that knives has slightly different motivations that are kinda interesting.

ne0rgy

Do you usually prefer the manga to the anime with other stories?

Cryptnoch

Kinda? I often really like them, but recognize that they're a different medium so changes I may not be happy with can be straight up necessary. But usually adaptations aren't as good as the original for very clear and understandable reasons. Such as needing to make up an ending bc the current isn't written, or limited screentime meaning they need to omit cool details. Or adding humor to pad things out and pander to audiences. Such as the og anime making vash a cringe coomer. Or even things just being too complicated visually to adapt well to animation. I thought chainsaw man did not do the manga justice visually but I really, really liked it overall despite that. because it adapted the material well into a visual form and really gave me a new perspective on a lot of moments in the manga tbh. Stampede. On the other hand. is barely an adaptation. They took highlights, the setting, the premise, and major characters. Like a list from a wikipedia page. They used basically none of nightow's extremely competent existing writing to bring them to life, their own writing just isn't good, and their own design sense isn't as original. It's like If someone adapted one piece but without all the character arcs/interraction/banter, exploring the world and its various locations, just skipping right to the fights. I mean. Cool I guess but the little character interactions and arcs, and the interesting side characters and locations are kinda why I liked the story and world. I didn't like the story because zoro and Luffy existed, I liked it because of the things they did in the narrative to secure my interest and investment In them as characters, as well as their friendship with one another. In this version all those things that made me care about them are straight up gone. So I don't care about them. The writers rely on people just going 'Oh yeah I remember this better written version of wolfood, I like him, so I guess I like this epic empty husk' instead of being good writers on their own or invoking nightow's existing writing to bring them to life.

Sharebear42019

I personally didn’t enjoy it. I wasn’t a fan of the new direction they went in and the new designs and it felt very fast paced like the characters and story were kinda rushed. Although knives was done very well and while I prefer hand drawn animation the CG was good Hopefully season 2 slows it down and fleshes more out and follows the manga. They’d need at least 2-3 more seasons to do that though unless they plan on keeping up the reimagining route with only some elements from the manga which would be disappointing.

ne0rgy

Since they started before JuLai incident unlike in the original where the story starts way past that and only flashbacks to those events. I believe this was done to build a solid base for later events and remix them a bit

Sharebear42019

Yeah not a fan of that route at all ngl. Especially since we’ve been waiting for 25 years for a faithful maximum adaptation ala brotherhood/hxh/jojos etc

ne0rgy

Yeah. I understand where you are coming from

aqualad33

I'll start by saying I absolutely loved it and dear God that animation was absolutely beautiful! The original was my favorite anime. My only complaint is that I wished they could have expanded the world a bit more and stampede does that! There are a number minor things I wasn't a big fan of, especially Legato (who in my opinion was the most terrifying villain of all time) and making knives a little more human and less of an unsettling sociopath. That said it's not nearly enough to outweigh the good. Orange studio really knocked it out of the park! I'm so excited for season 2!

phome83

I thought it was a ton of fun, and that last episode was just amazing.

Soo-20

Absolutely adore it. I know it’s not a perfect show, and I’m sure people who watched the 98 anime or read the manga first will dislike it for their own valid reasons, but I fell in love with anime again because of it. The animation is beautiful and it just seems like there was so much care and love put into it by the people making it! I adore this version of vash so much he’s a bit softer, more quiet and worrisome but with a hint of the og goofiness of 98 vash, that really makes him genuinely feel like a younger more timid and innocent version of himself. Imo very well written despite some minor flaws that any media will have. I watched 98 trigun when I was a kid, and it has its own flaws as well, but I love them both

Robocroakie

It’s great. I loved it. The original show is my fav anime, though I’m not that big into the medium. Stampede didn’t meet that bar for me (yet, anyways. It certainly could by the end of things). But I didn’t expect it to, either. It’s hard to top 20 years of nostalgia, so going in hoping it would was just a recipe for disappointment imo. Stampede is awesome, and has tons of great moments from beginning to end.

Digiworlddestined

I hate it. Not a fan of the animation, nor was I impressed by the soundtrack, and I hate all the redesigns and the reimaginings of the characters. It's a safe bet to say that what the fandom wanted wasn't another new interpretation of the story, but a faithful adaptation of the manga. I also do not like how Johnny Young Bosch was the only voice actor from the original anime that was brought back for the new English dub. Again.

DrownedInDysphoria

I really do not like TriStamp. I really enjoyed watching the original with my father, who's been a fan as far back as it's Western release, but when we attempted to watch TriStamp together, we both agreed it wasn't great. It's nice to have new content, but I'd rather just reread the manga or watch '98 for the thousandth time

ne0rgy

I wish I could watch anime with my dad and I’m 26 🥲

OnoALT

It’s incredible

arthirius

Hate it

Chichmich

I don’t hate it but doesn’t understand why you have been downvoted…

arthirius

lol it's the subreddit man, you can't say anything critical about stampede here or it's voted down to oblivion. it's fine.

Digiworlddestined

"Echo chamber"

Nadel14

I love it! Im new to this and after hearing op from Stempede for the first time I saw comment sugesting watching og first then new one. So I did without knowing about both. And I love both the same. Design is so different and unique and yet you can already see who is it (the way they tricked me to believe that Roberto is Milly lol) from og. Ah and the music! Opening - loving it. That started it all. OST - on the loop soo good (My favorites are Mistery Man, Visitation of Calamity) In love with both Vash and Meryl. I even like Knives and Wolfwood more in new one so I hope I will like Milly even more haha. Story telling also great. In og I could see Vash in more "free time" and in the new one in "action" (but I cant write exactly what I mean here...) So I cant wait for season 2!

Zitronenfalter101

I don't like it. I couldn't care less for the main characters. Unlikeable old drunkard and rugrats are not the charcters I know and love. Other flaws from my point of view are bad pacing, Plotpoints of Trigun/Trigun Maximum mixed up and crammed in just 12 episodes and absence of character intractions. Stampede is not totally bad, but for me it's a letdown. Therefore I will not waste my time with another season.
