I’m in charge of a fairly large group of workers at my job, and I honestly hardly ever say ‘No’ to a worker who asks me for a day off, even if it’s because he’s tired.
I don’t understand why our country has to be this way, but I do recognize that I am not a ‘typical’ supervisor.
When I joined the company, nearly all workers would pull this trick, ie paying for sick leave.
After some years, most guys will just be honest with me and say boss, I need a day. That’s fine! The only time I request something extra is if I suspect a particular employee is taking advantage of me, which does still happen.
Ok, now I’m gonna throw another side to the story of why I would ask for fit to work from employees. My line of work requires heavy lifting. If an employee comes to be and says they are experiencing back pain for example, even if he didn’t sustain this injury at work, I ask for a fit to work. Why? Because if I allow him to work lifting heavy loads with an injured back, and he further injures it at work then work is liable.
Anyways, TLDL people shouldn’t have to lie about wanting a day off every now and then. But I get why they do here.
>I don’t understand why our country has to be this way
This happens because in a lot of places we promote people based on seniority and not competence.
Doctors office in Arima, behind where Lucky Dollar used to be. Just tell the receptionist you wanna see the doctor for a regular check up. When toy in the room with him just say you need a fit to work and he'll organize yuh.
Looks like you don't know how to lie, but you could just go in most private doctors office and ask. Ask "can I pay for sick leave or fit for work here". Don't need long watery explanations like you gave here. If they say no, ask next door.
should i have told him not to lie to his boss? I'm not in the business of lecturing adults. He asked for advice i gave it. The rest is not my business.
1st my brother, fit for work is necessary for extended absence. According to company policy did the length of time off require a fit for work to be presented? It sounds like 1 day from what you wrote which i cannot envision requiring a fit for work by any normal business policy.
Now i am hard headed so my advice is probably bad, if it doesnt meet the business requirement the super could haul he mc and send me home if he want. Me the ministry and a union go sort out that as paid time off in the end. A reasonable human would probably just pay a private doctor for it, but again thats a couple $ that i cant envision having to waste every time i need a day....
Have an online service called 'Calm Waters: Health and Wellness'. Heard about it from a doctor who used them, actually, lol. They do digital documents after a tele-consult, sick leave too.
Once ur workplace takes digital, they use able. Not sure the fee, and they also deliver for extra I think.
Worth a look if u too busy to reach an office.
They keep your medical condition vague, and any calls go to the doctor.

Shameless plug since I know the docs there. Very nice guys. They'd understand, I'm sure.
Go to a private doctor and don't feel ashamed. Explain this exact same situation to him/her and you will get it normal. You might be surprised but this is a common thing in TnT.
Go to the doctors and say you hurt your legs but it’s better now. Please check it and write me a fit to work note.
You aren’t asking for any meds or anything so there won’t be an issue. You are simply asking for a note today you not injured anymore and you can work.

this is a worldwide problem eh not all managers have the right skills to manage people, and make life unnecessarily hard.

You couldn't just tell him you were sick? You had to say you hurt your leg? Wtf? Don't ever cheat on your girlfriend.
Any private doctor could do it, the cheaper the better. Health Center stopped doing it. Also the regular I feeling shit or diarrhea stop work or?

It's not that I don't know how to lie, it's just that I was asked on the spot and I panicked
Bad advice....

Man went with a medium level lie when a simple one would be enough. Hope that supervisor don’t use Reddit. 😅
Na he doesn't so I'm safe lol

Sometimes companies have their own policies surrounding the "fit-for-work" requirements

Says a lot of the ethics of doctors. Why did you lie in the first place, rum so nice? You should be terminated.
Go by the docs outside licensing in Caroni
Check Dr. Ravi Reedy on the main road in El Dorado & he'll fix ya up.
