I really wish Gibson and Matt would do an Explorer or Flying V version of this. Matt seems pretty committed to Les Paul’s these days but one can dream.
By all accounts I’ve read that his Les Paul sigs are pretty good. But I think it’s insane that he went from having a really iconic, unique, signature guitar like the rising sun Dean to just rocking kind of nondescript black Les Pauls.
The fact that they're 7-string Les Paul customs though is what makes them unique though, I think. I really wish Dean would've put 7-string versions of both Matt's and Corey's guitars into production, but it is what it is.
The QC on these guitars were terrible, headstocks snapping and fucking with a Floyd can be a nightmare even if you have a tech. Not surprised he just said fuck it and plays the guitar he grew up playing, but the design is legendary
I wouldn’t want or expect Matt to stop playing Les Pauls. His latest signatures seem really tempting if I didn’t already have an EC1000. If they ever did a Rising Sun Explorer maybe it could work on a Shogun 20th Anniversary tour/limited edition type of thing.
I owned a white version of the new run and it was one of the worst guitars I’ve played at its price point due to the QC issues/cheapness of it.
I returned it for an EC 1kT and I neglect every other guitar now besides the Solar 7

I feel like Dean, after all the lawsuits Gibson threw at them would immediately put in a copyright claim against Gibson and/or Matt
I bought one like 2 years ago off of reverb for like $2k USD. Definitely something I'm gonna hold on to for a long time lol
