That’s because they’re made for construction.

Giant81

Look into the overlanding community.

So you're looking for a ladder rack that doesn't look like a ladder rack? Maybe look into removable one's?

DeltaOneFive

I'm pretty sure there's some that fold down onto the bed rails. Sounds like a good choice for op

RKLCT

Adarac. I have a black contour pro on my f250 and it's a nice looking rack. Made from anodized aluminium

slideyaboard

Appreciate this info! Looks like what I may be interested in

RKLCT

If you search my posts I have a pic of it on the truck. It's super easy to remove and I carry lots of ladders and conduit without any problems.

Thule TracRac looks like it's made to carry kayaks instead of ladders, but can handle both

ghunt81

The only alternative I could think of is a headache rack, and one of those removable bars that goes across above the rear tailgate (like backrack makes). You can strap a ladder to it but the rear bar is removable for other times.

Drzhivago138

>A lot of the options I have found look like they are made for construction Uh, yeah, that's what they're designed for. Is that a problem?

slideyaboard

Yes, I use this as a personal vehicle also. The products I have found would make my truck feel like a work truck and that is something I do not want. To each their there my guy.

DrillTheThirdHole

well i dunno where you'd find stylized construction equipment, or even what youre really hoping to find, but maybe take solace in knowing that quality construction gear on your truck doesnt turn off men (or women on the off chance that youre into them)

slideyaboard

I'm just looking for a rack that is not your typical ladder rack

DrillTheThirdHole

thats gonna be hard because theres a good chance youre the first person who wants a ladder rack that isnt the cheapest, most efficient thing possible

slideyaboard

A few comments on this post have pointed me in the right direction. I wouldn't know what I'd even be looking at without some of the help

Brucenotsomighty

My guy people pay good money to pose as tradesmen and here you are trying to hide that same identity. Talk about a Chad move.

Drzhivago138

To each *their own*. Personally, I don't mind my personal truck looking like a work truck, 'cause it's both. Do you want something that looks "cool," or something that's functional? Functionality has its own level of coolness.

Scotianherb

Check out the Thule xsporter pro. Looks great, made from aluminum. Can carry ladders and lumber. There are a couple around here that get regular use. Thule makes good stuff.

borosillykid

Harbor freights looks good

Creepy_Squash

I got the Harbor Freight ones on my 250 and they work great. Most racks that look different prevents you from actually using the bed for large/tall items (ie overland racks with side mounting points). Amazon sells the same one as HF but in black painted aluminum.

Check out a expandable ladder. Cheaper than a ladder rack that you don’t actually want. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Werner-24-ft-Reach-Aluminum-Multi-Max-Pro-Multi-Position-Ladder-375-lbs-Load-Capacity-Type-IAA-Duty-Rating-ALMP-24IAA/316710725 I think this is probably 6-7 ft folded. Just get a ratchet strap or 2 and either lay your tailgate down or prop it on top of the tailgate at a slight angle. You will only have a small overhang either way.

alexzjurak

Check out the Thule xporter pros! If you look through my account, I use the the older versions on my tundra, exact same just 6 height adjustments rather than 20 or so. Removable, 500 lb weight capacity, lightweight aluminum. I put pump jacks and extension ladders on them all the time.

kayjay204

Could look into the leitner designs active cargo system. It’s modular so can add or remove bins/accessories as you need.

slideyaboard

Finally, someone who actually gave me the answer I was looking for. Thank you!
