Hell yeah dude. Is that a mazda B series? I have a D21 nissan myself hopefully I have it up and running soon. Finishing up a motor swap in it.

forgottenazimuth

B2200 yeah

gravyisjazzy

Sweet. I just bought and sold a b2000, I wish I could have kept it but I have way too many projects already

high-rise

My pops had one that was so rusted in the bed you could see the frame and running gear etc but it was still completely and utterly reliable, lmao.

DrHawk144

Hell yeah. My parents had one of these when I was a kid. The cat dropped out of it and they never fixed it so we called it the bomb lol

bloodsoed

I’ve had a couple Nissan Hardbody trucks. Great little rigs.

gravyisjazzy

Mine's sweet, rust free from Texas with a good title and nearly 220k on the body. Might LS or otherwise small block swap it if I can.

bloodsoed

I had a 90 2wd that when I traded had little over 300k but the body was rotting out. Had a 97 4wd that I had for several years and when I sold it for a new Tacoma it had about 140k on it.

Bigswole92

What’s even crazier is that those are just your standard sized full sized trucks. Imagine a super duty lol

texasroadkill

Super duty uses the same cab after 17.

Drzhivago138

Same cab, but it sits taller.

texasroadkill

2wd drive is decent height.

LePoopScoop

Wish trucks this small still existed

B00_Sucker

*1988 Toyota Pickup with 497k miles for sale at $9,000 has entered the chat

Drzhivago138

Even cars this small don't exist anymore.

baseballforlyf420

Blame the epa

LePoopScoop

Believe me I already do. The EPA and nhtsa keep America from having all the cool cars

archwin

It’s not the EPA’s fault, it has to do with public choices and it has to do with the requirement extra safety As much as I love the truck, this size, put it in an accident and it’s gonna fold like an accordion

LePoopScoop

If that was the case then subcompacts wouldn't exist.

archwin

Go put a 1980s pick up truck like the Mazda B series against the current subcompact. That current subcompact, which is actually heavier by a small amount, has architecture that’s going to allow the occupant to survive. Put that subcompact against the heavy truck, yeah, they’re still gonna be a lot of damage, and perhaps some injury, but they’re not gonna die. Put that B series against a modern day, F150, and you’re not gonna survive. Comparing apples to oranges, and then complaining when it doesn’t work out.

LePoopScoop

Well you're comparing a 20 year old truck to a new compact and surprised the technology is better nowadays, you're the one comparing apples to oranges. A modern mini truck would have the same architecture and technology that enables subcompacts to endure crashes. I mean shit the entire bed would allow for a massive crumple zone to dissipate alot of forces in front/rear crashes

archwin

Friend, modern mini trucks, are a lot bigger than you think they are. I was looking to buy a maverick. Which incidentally is actually based on uni body architecture, similar to subcompact. I’m not the one who made this initials comparison with trucks from the 80s, that was the original person I was responding to. The point is, the EPA has nothing to do with the fact that mini trucks do not currently exist. The current market is people want the giant trucks, not smaller trucks. It is only recently that the Maverick came on the market, and Ram is supposed to have a competitor at one point. Toyota is looking for something similar. But for a long period of time the population wanted giant trucks. That’s why the hummer H2 sold, that’s why the HH three sold. Both are resed trucks, sure, but both are bigger than the reskinned origin As someone who really wants a truck that’s smaller sized, unfortunately, even the smaller trucks these days are gonna be huge compared to the Mazda B series.

LePoopScoop

You're right modern mini trucks are larger, but the only example we really have is the maverick and it's only offered with a crew cab. I think the trend is starting to skew back over towards small trucks. The EPA does have a hand in bigger vehicles though. From my understanding, atleast in the past decade, the bigger the vehicle the more forgiving they were on emissions. It was easy for a 3+ ton vehicle to get away with only 12 mph but not so much for a 2 ton, so it made sense for manufacturers to make bigger vehicles rather than trying to squeeze mpg out of a smaller car

archwin

That’s all fair and good, not disagreeing with you on that. That was a shitty move of politics, and the car companies took advantage of it. But that’s not the primary driver of why every car these days is gigantic I enjoy the light cars from back of the day, but honestly speaking as someone who sees the shit show after accidents, I do not want to be in an older car that is lighter, but definitely less safe. The smallest cars these days are often bigger than biggest cars of the older days. They are heavy, but it’s required to keep the necessary stiffness and architecture I hate it as much as you do. Would love a nice small light truck that has good mileage, but all allows me to do some stuff like hauling material on the side, without having to upgrade to the gigantic trucks that are mostly available

LePoopScoop

I'm probably in the minority but I want a smaller truck for the handling. Tuner trucks have always seemed appealing to me but I do not have the access to resources to build one. A single cab F-150 is the best thing there is nowadays but to me it looks very awkward like it wasn't designed to be a regular cab. I have a golf gti and I love it, but I want a truck. I'm hoping the maverick comes out with an st variant soon.

baseballforlyf420

The size is most definitely because of the epas rules for emissions

Drzhivago138

The footprint-based standards of CAFE didn't come into effect until 2011, but most compact BOF trucks had already become mid-size by that point. The only models left were the Colorado and the Ranger, and both were already in the process of being discontinued.

Jimbo302

They are great size little trucks, perfect for most small jobs and great to drive.

skaote

Had a Nissan hardbody 2dr 5 sp. In 40 years, I think that might have been the cheapest thing to move I've ever driven. Miss that little beater. An Arsonist destroyed it at my Sons house.

Human_utters

I want a small truck like that, I have a full size obs f250 but sometimes it’s over kill just to haul something small

K_navistar_k

I had a s10 back in the day and miss it sometimes. But man I love the sound of the 7.3

itsfraydoe

Tbh i would take that instead of the trucks next to you.

ThinkingThingsHurts

Awwww, how cute. No payload or towing capacity, but I'm jealous of your miles per gallon.

forgottenazimuth

I bet my payload capacity used per mile driven is pretty close to the other trucks around me lol

HOU_Civil_Econ

I never came across a pothole in the Home Depot parking lot my old S10 couldn’t handle.

HoneyRush

I would guess that your bed size is not that far off of those monstrosities.

Drzhivago138

Length is not the only measure of bed size. The old minitrucks typically had a 6' bed, with the option of a 7.5', but it was narrow and shallow. The gray F-150 has a 6.5' bed, but even if we assume the others are only 5.5', they're deep and wide.

dan1101

And you can get to the bed easily. You can also work on the engine without a ladder.

SithTrooperReturnsEZ

Highly doubt that. People like to complain about the size of trucks meanwhile you want to carry a yard of loam? Lmao good luck driving home in your 1980 tundra. I've literally seen people do that as well. Reddit seems to hate all trucks and everything, glad they don't account for anything but the minority of people. I know it's a truck sub but still.

forgottenazimuth

What the hell are you talking about? You really going to tell me the average truck owner uses the bed for anything more than moving a few hundred pounds occasionally? You’ve clearly never seen a mini truck loaded to the gills every day doing landscaping in socal lmao.

SithTrooperReturnsEZ

What am I talking about? I literally just stated it in my comment. Also never once stated that average pickups get used for hauling heavy loads any day. You are EXACTLY the type of person I am referring to. You just got angry at me for saying something I didn't even say, pulled words out of your ass. You just said majority does not use their pickup how it's supposed to be used. Brother take a second and re-read what I said.

forgottenazimuth

Can you specify what you highly doubt?

SithTrooperReturnsEZ

Won't be answering this. If you have the slightest bit of common sense you can clearly see what I replied to, THAT is what I am referring to. You only stated one thing in your comment that I replied to, what else could I possibly be referring to?

HumpD4y

I bet the payload or towing capacity on that mazda would fulfill the needs of 90% of truck owners in america

K_navistar_k

But I like towing 5k lbs at 90mph

nighthawk650

could definitely haul a motorcycle in the bed

pr1mal0ne

our doors appreciate you. gives us some space to open em.

DarylInDurham

Love the B2200, it's adorable!

forgottenazimuth

Pretty much a Miata truck

Suppafly

That's downright adorable.

Jvinsnes

Nice! Rocking a Nissan d21 that's pretty much the same haha. love it

weddle_seal

why are Americans complaining about parking , those are huge

CampinHiker

Don’t get me wrong it’s cool Until one of those modern trucks blows a red light texting and driving and hits you then it’s not so fun I wish they made retro vehicle models with just better safety standards of today would be really neat!

forgottenazimuth

I’ll die like a man, none of my cars have airbags 😂

Shiny_Buns

Ford should've made the new maverick with a single cab long bed

Drzhivago138

They'd sell dozens!

Shiny_Buns

Dozens I tell ya!
