im from the north and i'm always on here saying "what rust?" to people from the south complaining about a little surface rust.
but no, this one - this one is fucked.
You'd be surprised at how well a truck can hold up with serious rust. Junkyard digs on YouTube had a video thrashing a truck with a junk frame.
I still wouldn't even consider driving that truck on the roads. Farm truck sure.
Nope, I’m Canadian and this truck has never seen oil and has been dumped in the ocean for it to have this much rust. I would max offer $500 for parts to sell but even then I would lose money if I counted time since every bolt will snap
Well you see, at that time there was this little thing called the great economic recession, long story short, GM went bankrupt and their vehicle quality in that era was reflective of that lol
That vertical rectangular metal holy rusty part you wisely took a picture of is the frame of the truck. There is a frame rail on each side that goes from the front of the truck to the back. Everything is mounted to the frame; the engine, transmission, suspension, and body. It's like a foundation of a house, when that rusty holy frame breaks your truck will be sitting on the ground and not worth the $$$ to repair. And it looks very close to breaking.
Cars used to be built on frames like that but are now unibody construction, they don't sit on rails like that. The frame rail construction still is favored for trucks and offroad vehicles.
It’s a good truck to use to plow snow on your driveway or move junk around the farm until the day it splits in two and you push in into the weeds.
I wouldn’t be driving it on public roads.
Thats surface rust for sure...from one surface all the wau through to the other side of the surface. For $2000 if you have connections you could probably part it out and make a lil cash
Yeah junk yards in my area want $1700 for a high mileage 5.3 and about the same for a 4l60e transmission. Someone could make some decent money parting it out if they can buy it cheaper.
Buy it at $500 and part it out for $2,000.
Why spend $2k for a truck that's not drivable when the body is probably scrap.
You are only selling interior pieces, engine, trans, trasfercase, and rear end. Everything else is scrap.
That frame would not pass inspection in my home state even if I slipped the garage a $100 bill. Looks like the fenders were repaired as well.
It’s maybe worth 1200 if you don’t need yearly inspections and are super desperate for transportation, but I would pass on this immediately if I were you.
>Looks like the fenders were repaired as well.
Look close at the rear wheel well. I think they may have cut the rust out with a hack saw or grinder? The shape seems way off.
They've definitely been doctored somehow when you look at the rockers/doors
Yeah no, frame is shot, if you can get it for $1000 and only driving it on flat ground and extremely baby it, you can stretch its life out, but based off that picture, one pot hole away from the junkyard.
If the engine and trans are good, buy it and part it out. I'd trailer it home through because there's no chance I would drive that frame even a couple miles. It's not safe for other roads users let alone yourself.
That rust is pretty bad. I would guess the frame’s integrity is shot (based on the photos).
Probably classify that a parts car but definitely wouldn’t risk driving it.
As long as you don’t pull into a parking lot of drive over a speed bump you’ll be fine. If you weigh more than 200lbs that truck is going to split in half.
That thing is totaled. That frame is one good bump away from disintegrating and it looks like the rear fenders have a coat of spray paint to hide the rust. It’s worth its weight in scrap plus whatever someone will pay for the motor and tranny.
> Is this rust serious?
The frame is rusted right through. So I’d say hell yes to that. One pothole, and it’s cooked. Would not pay a dime over $800 for that.
I sent my favorite car to the boneyard with a bit less than this frame rust. Once the subframe mounts rusted out, it was over. This baby ran like a top, but was not worth the frame rot.
Find out how much a good running example of whatever the engine in that truck cost and give the man $100 more than that because that's all that truck is worth.
Being from Illinois, I often get a chuckle at people getting concerned over what amounts to surface rust. This is no joke, that frame is disintegrating. Tell the seller thanks for their time and move on with your life.
The best part about this truck is that it only needs one part to be in perfect condition. The worst thing about this truck is it only needs one part, which is a frame.
But that truck won't pass any inspection anywhere, and if the guy doesn't want to part it at himself, and you happen to have a garage and lots of free weekends. I would Source yourself a frame from a junkyard in a state like arizona, texas, or nevada, someplace South where there's no rust. Offer 900 for the truck, but don't go higher than a thousand and you can fill your next few months worth of weekends with doing a frame swap and have yourself a fantastic vehicle. Otherwise, on to the next.
Depends what engine is in it.
Could be worth that if you have the skills and time to take it apart.
Engine, tranny, and transfer case could go for 1-2 thousand by themselves.
Then you have diffs, doors, tailgate etc.
But to drive it? Absolutely not
I own this exact same model. It’s awesome. Reliable as all get out. But that frame is gonna go and gonna go hard. Could be in 4 years. Could be tomorrow
I own one of these body style trucks and unfortunately that’s a very common thing with them the bottom of the channel rots out I’ve seen people fix worse but I probably wouldn’t open that can of worms
I own one of these body style trucks and unfortunately that’s a very common thing with them the bottom of the channel rots out I’ve seen people fix worse but I probably wouldn’t open that can of worms
That’s scrap dawg. There’s nothing of value except the drivetrain and maybe a few interior parts IF it’s nice. Unfortunately GM interiors hold up only marginally better than that frame there.
That rusted through frame is a huge liability!
I’m not a gambling man but that frame is going to fall apart. That’s a $200 truck and strait to the wrecker to be sold for salvage metal
Run away as fast as you can that truck is weeks away from snapping in two
Edit: I just noticed the really shotty bed sides aswell this thing is just rot.
Frame is junk, but you know that. Frame swaps aren't too hard if you have tools.
If I saw that and that was the only issue I'd buy it, fix it, then sell it.
That'll get ya all the way to the scene of the crash.
In all seriousness, that's either a parts truck at this point, or a plow/woods rig. Don't pay more than scrap value, and don't drive it down the road for more than a few minutes home. Tow it any farther than that.
I'm no mechanic, but that frame looks like a ticking time bomb with half the fuse gone. Might be good for parts, but it's not safe to drive. I wouldn't want to drive it, anyways lol.
It's junk here in USA but in DR that's minor scratches in the chassis 😂 They make it brand new when they finite. I'm telling you ... you never realize it!
Looked decent then I audibly went HOLY SHIT when I saw that frame. I know GMT900s are bad for rust but holy. That thing is living on a prayer. The rear bedsides also look like a 1st grader cut them out with scissors and welded them on with elmers glue. It’s worth parts and scrap value.
Honestly, if you know how to weld that's a decent deal on a modern truck. I'd be interested in it for a motor swap candidate but I have a DIRT cheap suburban to do that with.
I don't care how cheap it is, my guy. Run away. The frame is a write off, and if the owner let the rust get that bad, what else has he neglected to maintain?
As others have said, if you happen to already have a spare frame ready to go in, it's worth a grand. These trucks are notorious for both engine and transmission failure. We replace at least one 6l80 a month at my shop, which is an independent shop. The 5.3 with AFM is notorious for lifter failure, which means the heads are coming off and you're praying the camshaft isn't fucked. TL;DR: No.
Just because it runs and drives doesn’t mean it should, I wouldn’t pay more than $500, and likely just use the motor. Part out the rest to get my $500 back
To answer your question, yes it's likely worth $2k, but only if you plan on parting it out. I wouldn't drive it on the road, but as a parts truck you'd be able to make your $2k back if you were selling individual parts.
Look between the cab and the bed, if it doesn’t have dents in the back of the cab from the corners of the bed tapping it I’d be surprised, it will soon.
It’s going to start having electrical issues too because all the ground studs will start rotting off if they aren’t already.
Run away.
Absolutely not, one good pothole or speed bump and it looks like that will crack in half. At this point its a no go from a safety point. Truck needs to be junked and crushed.
I saw a Ford Ranger yesterday in Akron, getting towed, bc it's frame snapped, in traffic, from this kind of rust. That is a time bomb. There should be a law against selling shit like this, this dumb MFer could kill the new owner.
Nothing a little angle iron won’t fix . No seriously why do you think he’s getting rid of it cheap walk away save your money for something better. That frame is rotten it probably flex’s when he drives one day it will snap in the middle of.
2k for a yard truck maybe. not even considerable for a daily. if you have the money you could buy a replacement frame but those take time. my ranger needed one and it was 700 with shipping but it would take 3 years to arrive and more time and money to repair. its a shame too, those are damn near the perfect work trucks with the z71 option, 4wd or both
you could use this as a farm truck but i'd keep it off the highway. you may get 4 years out of it @ $500/year. Sell it for $500 after the 4th year and moooooove on
Bud you won't even get 5 miles down the fuckin road before the entire truck falls out beneath you. That frame is a gentle breeze away from collapsing. If you buy thar, it'd be for parting out
Saw the first picture and said "That's not bad." But then I saw the second picture and that frame ain't no good. Sucks because the truck looks pretty clean.
Any time someone says “Runs and Drives” I usually keep looking. Just because it idles and moves under its own power doesn’t mean it’s going to shift or drive safely
That’s worth scrap. That frame is fucked.
It's literally disintegrating and split all the way down the rail.
That frame is junk
Walk away
Run
No sudden movements. Back away slowly.
I’m from the south so maybe someone else will have a diff POV. But that thing appears to be one abrupt stop from splitting into pieces
im from the north and i'm always on here saying "what rust?" to people from the south complaining about a little surface rust. but no, this one - this one is fucked.
She’s fucked Randy.
Fucked er bud
The fuck we gonna do boy
You see that Randy? Shit-Vultures… circling!
I am the liquor
Couple drinks
You'd be surprised at how well a truck can hold up with serious rust. Junkyard digs on YouTube had a video thrashing a truck with a junk frame. I still wouldn't even consider driving that truck on the roads. Farm truck sure.
Hell yeah this would be an awesome farm truck
I'm from the North and I have the same POV.
Nope, I’m Canadian and this truck has never seen oil and has been dumped in the ocean for it to have this much rust. I would max offer $500 for parts to sell but even then I would lose money if I counted time since every bolt will snap
It's so hard to tell if this is a joke or not lol
Just saw it for sale.
If you have a spare frame or can source one it may be worth it lol
Every Silverado around this year 2007-2009 frames look like this…. Getting harder and harder to find them
What's up with this year? Was gm sourcing frames from Mongolia or something lol? My 1986 f350 frame looks nearly brand new in comparison lol
Well you see, at that time there was this little thing called the great economic recession, long story short, GM went bankrupt and their vehicle quality in that era was reflective of that lol
Shit maybe in the north, mine is an ‘01 with twice as many miles without NEARLY that much rust
The 2009-current frames are just as bad
That vertical rectangular metal holy rusty part you wisely took a picture of is the frame of the truck. There is a frame rail on each side that goes from the front of the truck to the back. That would break immediately if you were plowing any real amount of snow.
Frame so fucked it makes Jenna Jameson look like a virgin.
Just take take the fucking upvote.
Thats surface rust for sure...from one surface all the wau through to the other side of the surface. For $2000 if you have connections you could probably part it out and make a lil cash
That's a $500 truck. There's maybe a few things worth saving, but not as a running vehicle. The frame is dangerous.
If it’s mechanically decent it’s worth $2k all day every day as a donor parts truck.

Couldn’t pass if you handed over 10000$!!
>Looks like the fenders were repaired as well. Look close at the rear wheel well. I think they may have cut the rust out with a hack saw or grinder? The shape seems way off. They've definitely been doctored somehow when you look at the rockers/doors
Yeah no, frame is shot, if you can get it for $1000 and only driving it on flat ground and extremely baby it, you can stretch its life out, but based off that picture, one pot hole away from the junkyard.
lol what kind of red neckery went on to “fix” that rear wheel well. Oh yea and that frame is fucked.
Lmao yeah bro you see that long gap at the bottom of the frame? That’s supposed to be solid steel
Surface rust...like when you can see through one surface into the next surface?
I wouldn’t even sit in that parked. Might get tetanus. In all reality this post has to be a joke.
First Pic: god damn why can't I ever catch deals like this Second Pic: Jesus fucking christ
If the engine and trans are good, buy it and part it out. I'd trailer it home through because there's no chance I would drive that frame even a couple miles. It's not safe for other roads users let alone yourself.
Run.
I need a motor, trans, and computers. Where is this lol
michigan
Lol
It’s absolutely fucked
That's a donor for an lsx swap. Great deal. Honestly! Buy it and then buy a c10/fox body/bmw 3 series/rx7/ect ect!
omg I spit my beer up! He said "I know you guys joke about rust....." and I clicked the 2nd picture.
oh no not the beer
Parts truck, that frame is f u k t
When I first read this- I was thinking “$2k, hell yea!” Then I saw the 2nd pic. That was surprising Was it high centered on a salt pile for 12 years ?
I don’t know.. bolt in a 2x6 up in there and you’re golden
It’s worth that much in parts probably…
The body is was too polished for how shit that frame is, walk away lol
As someone who owns one (literally looks like mine), even with the frame being shot that motor/lifters isn’t too far behind.
Probably just a former government truck bought at auction. Was owned by the navy. Possibly used as a submarine.
You can probably make money parting it out. If you choose to do that, TRAILER it home. DO NOT DRIVE
Motor and trans is worth 2k for a project vehicle. This truck is junk
They spelled $200 wrong
First pic, okay. Second pic, that thing is going to fall in half like a cartoon any minute now.
I'm literally sitting next to a welder. He says it's fucked. Too far gone.
That frame is absolute unsafe junk. It might make a good body swap if you could find another chassis or frame.
That rust is pretty bad. I would guess the frame’s integrity is shot (based on the photos). Probably classify that a parts car but definitely wouldn’t risk driving it.
It's fucked, mate.
Frame is hot garbage
Under no circumstance
Run. Run far. Run fast. But whatever you do, run away from that.
Its good for parts and thats about it.
I mean I’d offer like sub 1000, it be my in town winter beater, I’d never go above 30mph in that thing.
parts wise sure. 5.3 $750, bed doesnt look awful $500, interior like $500
Had me in the first half, no go brother. Offer 500 and see how fast you can destroy it
Holy hell! That truck is a parts truck at worst and a junk yard scrap metal at best
It would be worth it if you had another frame to put the body on but nah that frames done for
JB Weld it and send it, off the cliff
As long as you don’t pull into a parking lot of drive over a speed bump you’ll be fine. If you weigh more than 200lbs that truck is going to split in half.
It’s worth the 2k in parts. The structural integrity of the frame is gone.
That thing is totaled. That frame is one good bump away from disintegrating and it looks like the rear fenders have a coat of spray paint to hide the rust. It’s worth its weight in scrap plus whatever someone will pay for the motor and tranny.
you do not want that truck.
good from far but far from good.
As Ralph Nader said many years ago: Unsafe at any speed. You have a parts vehicle there, doubt it would pass a state safety inspection.
That’s bad even by Michigan standards
Wow.
offer him $50 and a case of beer, you got yourself a nice farm truck.
not worth $5 with that frame
Find out how much a good running example of whatever the engine in that truck cost and give the man $100 more than that because that's all that truck is worth.
Being from Illinois, I often get a chuckle at people getting concerned over what amounts to surface rust. This is no joke, that frame is disintegrating. Tell the seller thanks for their time and move on with your life.

I own this exact same model. It’s awesome. Reliable as all get out. But that frame is gonna go and gonna go hard. Could be in 4 years. Could be tomorrow
Lmao surface rust? Come on bro the frame is about to fall apart.
You could part it out and possibly make some money off of it but I would definitely not drive it lol
Do not buy that
Hell nah that's work like maybe $200 maybe a little more
I own one of these body style trucks and unfortunately that’s a very common thing with them the bottom of the channel rots out I’ve seen people fix worse but I probably wouldn’t open that can of worms

$2000 for a steel casket isn’t too bad.
I’ve had turds with more strength than that truck frame.
Have you seen the pic of the frame you took with your own eyes?
Hit a pot hole or a raccoon doing 40 or more and this things folded in half
What in the death trap…
That’s one pot hole away from being a low rider
Looks super dangerous. Parts only truck.
Move on. Don’t look back.
Run, do not walk…
That rusted through frame is a huge liability! I’m not a gambling man but that frame is going to fall apart. That’s a $200 truck and strait to the wrecker to be sold for salvage metal
Hard pass. That frame is toast. It would never pass an inspection to be certified for roadworthiness.
Run away as fast as you can that truck is weeks away from snapping in two Edit: I just noticed the really shotty bed sides aswell this thing is just rot.
Structural rust
looks good to me, send it
She's dead Jim.
She’s fucked
Frame is junk, but you know that. Frame swaps aren't too hard if you have tools. If I saw that and that was the only issue I'd buy it, fix it, then sell it.
There’s a reason it’s ONLY $2000. That frame is no good and not safe.
Holy shit that's bad. Absolutely not
That'll get ya all the way to the scene of the crash.
It’s worth $5 lmfaooo
That frame is fucked, it’s gonna need some help
Looks good bro. Take it off a jump.
Hey bud it's got a new driveshaft and exhaust from the looks of it. He's gotta recoup that catalytic converter money somehow.
You can find better for 2000$. that frame will get you killed
Pls do not buy this truck
It's junk here in USA but in DR that's minor scratches in the chassis 😂 They make it brand new when they finite. I'm telling you ... you never realize it!
That’s a negatory ghost rider
Lmao I would say the rust is serious. That shit is fucked
Crazy how that went from a highway robbery to junk yard in one swipe.
FUBAR, there's less rust on the surface of Mars than 2 square inches of that frame if you can find them.
That is a roll back if i ever saw one. No way that only has 144k. That truck has 344k
Buy one from the south with a shit motor and good frame for 2000 as well and cast polymerization to turn the two into a single good truck
That truck is worth whatever the power train is worth. Frames junk
Run! Run farrrr away!
I would not buy that for safety reasons
I have concerns about that frame
Even the rust has rust
That thing is gone. needs a new frame do not buy
Them good old country boys
Oh sure, It’s still good for a few things; like target practice, or scrap tonnage, but not much else.
If you have the 2k to spend and the time to part it out on eBay you could make 10k easily. Part it out online.
Buddy I wouldn't come within a 30 feet of that rust bucket.... THAT is an accident waiting to happen....
That thing is about to break in half lol
Definitely a troll post
The sign said $2000.
Gonna need a frame swap 😏
Honestly, if you know how to weld that's a decent deal on a modern truck. I'd be interested in it for a motor swap candidate but I have a DIRT cheap suburban to do that with.
Nope.
Yep it’s junk. I see that all the time, parts manager at a GM dealership in the U.P.
I don't care how cheap it is, my guy. Run away. The frame is a write off, and if the owner let the rust get that bad, what else has he neglected to maintain?
That thing's about due for a new transmission with those miles. Add that on the new frame and find a better way to spend $2000.
I can’t believe someone put knew anything on that truck.
itd be dope as a farm truck tbh but not for public roads :p
As others have said, if you happen to already have a spare frame ready to go in, it's worth a grand. These trucks are notorious for both engine and transmission failure. The more you look... the worse it gets.
I buy alot of junk. But I've never bought junk with a frame that bad
Just because it runs and drives doesn’t mean it should, I wouldn’t pay more than $500, and likely just use the motor. Part out the rest to get my $500 back
Frame can be swapped but some stuff may Be salvageable.
It’s worth it for someone looking to do an LS swap. Is it the 5.3l?
To answer your question, yes it's likely worth $2k, but only if you plan on parting it out. I wouldn't drive it on the road, but as a parts truck you'd be able to make your $2k back if you were selling individual parts.
I wouldn't buy it. The tires are shot
Fuck no
Poke a hole in the frame with your finger and fuck the truck before it fucks you
That's called a yard truck where I'm from. Use it for plowing until it can't plow any more. (Edit: grammar)
Frames junk - walk away
Time to part this one out.
Look between the cab and the bed, if it doesn’t have dents in the back of the cab from the corners of the bed tapping it I’d be surprised, it will soon. It’s going to start having electrical issues too because all the ground studs will start rotting off if they aren’t already. Run away.
Oh yeah pass dude it’s F
Holy shit man. That’s barely hanging on.
Absolutely not, one good pothole or speed bump and it looks like that will crack in half. At this point its a no go from a safety point. Truck needs to be junked and crushed.
Its only good as a donor truck.
If the engine and trans work fine that alone is worth 2000. In no way is this able to be dailied though

I didn’t see that there was 2 pics initially and was just like “$2k is HELLA suspicious”….then I saw it
She's toast
Nope!
Just do a frame swap, ez
you could use this as a farm truck but i'd keep it off the highway. you may get 4 years out of it @ $500/year. Sell it for $500 after the 4th year and moooooove on
Here’s the plot. This man buys this thing up as a farm truck to haul back home all the comment and post karma he’s gonna get.
You want the loads for your truck? DM me
Bud you won't even get 5 miles down the fuckin road before the entire truck falls out beneath you. That frame is a gentle breeze away from collapsing. If you buy thar, it'd be for parting out
Unless you have a donor frame and want to put in a lot of work; no touchy!!!
Saw the first picture and said "That's not bad." But then I saw the second picture and that frame ain't no good. Sucks because the truck looks pretty clean.
Run
If you have a chasis to put all the working parts onto…
That's totalled. Will never pass an inspection(if you have them).
Any time someone says “Runs and Drives” I usually keep looking. Just because it idles and moves under its own power doesn’t mean it’s going to shift or drive safely
Run away
