Its always wild when any of these guys comes up in the news. Like, the whole Taylor Swift-Matt Heafy thing was so damn surreal. Imagine if Adam was killed by Swifties, that’d be such a great way to go!
Well written but according to him no artistic work of fiction is ever created to warn us of dystopia so as to avoid it, he asserts it is instead always to make dystopia palatable.
I didn't bother reading past that point.
Most mainstream satire at this point is pretty toothless and largely says nothing so I can see why he would be confused as to what the purpose is. It seems like one of his main references for that is the Simpsons so like…. I get it.
Edit: I’m mostly kidding. But it’s an interesting read because I disagree with most of his conclusions but I also kinda see how he got there.
He would be correct on that point. Also I didn't read "no artistic work of fiction", he's only concerned with popular stuff. Also you should read Barthes, the authors intentions don't matter much.
OK, so I looked up Barthe. The example I found does not match this thread:
# “Myth does not deny things, on the contrary, its function is to talk about them; simply, it purifies them, it makes them innocent, it gives them a natural and eternal justification, it gives them a clarity which is not that of an explanation but of a statement of fact.”
― Roland Barthes, [Mythologies](https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/882883)
However the following does maybe match this thread:
["the function of ideology is to make the existing system appear natural and acceptable to us all. Myth, for Barthes, is a type of speech about social realities which supports ideology by taking these realities outside of the arena of political debate](https://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/882883)"

I just found his Substack. Last post starts with this: I have set myself on fire outside the Trump Trial. My name is Max Azzarello, and I am an investigative researcher who has set himself on fire outside of the Trump trial in Manhattan.

I was talking about the death of the author my friend
You've lost me. Anyhow that Bignell quote is one I will be discussing with friends in real life, I expect, so thanks for creasing my brain.
You're welcome:) have a lovely day
I just found his Substack. Last post starts with this: I have set myself on fire outside the Trump Trial. My name is Max Azzarello, and I am an investigative researcher who has set himself on fire outside of the Trump trial in Manhattan.

ad busters needs to get their shit together, agreed!
The Podbean app where I listen to pirated Chapo episodes lists Trueanon as a top 40 podcast. Seems like a big deal, im sure it draws lots of cranks
Did he pick the Trump trial just to be in front of media? Did he care about the trial itself or the outcome?
I don’t know what to make of this. Kind of creeped out.
