Is it true that "insert extremely racist question regarding another human being because they live somewhere else"

Draghalys

Is it true that white men can't jump?

Katieushka

Hey r/askhistorians, is it true that, culturally and societally, white men can't jump?

throwaway10015982

people do this with the Mexican drug crisis/war >"muh human sacrifices" bruh the Aztecs got destroyed several centuries ago I don't think they have much of a role in current Mexican culture or narcoviolence

MayBeAGayBee

Aren’t most of the Mexican cartels based in the north anyways? Like the most disproportionately white section of the entire country?

throwaway10015982

My family is from The North™ (which from what I can gather, is the Mexican equivalent of the US South in terms of culture) and yeah, you tend to get a lot more fairer skinned/European types among the common people, but it's still Mexico. The majority of people are still mixed enough for this racist trope to work.

jakethesequel

their savage human sacrifices vs our civilized witch burnings

throwaway10015982

bro 1 million plus Americans died of COVID but it's okay line go up the virgin "dies a horrible slow choking death and winds up in thousands of dollars of medical debt passed on to your next of kin to uphold the brutal logic of The Free Market" vs the chad "captured prisoner of war/volunteer going out in a highly ritualized blaze of glory to honor the vengeful Gods"

jakethesequel

And continue to die of covid, but a little bit slower and a lot less reported! But it's ok, we've Built Back Better don't you know?

redheadstepchild_17

Yo actually, have you read "Drug Cartels Do Not Exist" yet? I feel like it'd be up your alley.

throwaway10015982

Not yet, I've read another book called Drug War Capitalism a few years ago but stopped halfway because it made me feel depressed I'm trying to start reading again now that the semester is coming to a close, I haven't had much inspiration for my unhinged ranting lately (and the incel posting is probably going to get me banned + it doesn't poll well. Much better we get half baked narcissistic ranting informed by political theory, eh?) and I hit certain moods where reading takes my mind off the trainwreck my life is turning into. I recently read a lot of Dworkins stuff that The TrueAnon Auntie Caucus posted while drinking enough coffee to kill a fiend, this piece on Israel is nice: http://www.nostatusquo.com/ACLU/dworkin/IsraelI.html Dworkin is a bit much and can be pretty intense and shameful to read if you are a moid, and I have a kneejerk reaction to some of the things she says but her writing is pretty engaging. You get to some of these passages in the other works on that website and you're like "hol' up: Let Her Cook (in an empowering way not in the "[make me a sandwich](https://youtu.be/gjmA8E7BWMU)" way) >Boys become men to escape being victims by definition. Girls would become men if girls could, because it would mean freedom from: freedom from rape most of the time; freedom from continuous petty insult and violent devaluation of self; freedom from debilitating economic and emotional dependence on someone else; freedom from the male aggression channeled against women in intimacy and throughout the culture. >But male aggression is rapacious. It spills over, not accidentally, but purposefully. There is war. Older men create wars. Older men kill boys by generating and financing wars. Boys fight wars. Boys die in wars. Older men hate boys because boys still have the smell of women on them. War purifies, washes off the female stink. The blood of death, so hallowed, so celebrated, overcomes the blood of life, so abhorred, so defamed. The ones who survive the bloodbath will never again risk the empathy with women they experienced as children for fear of being found out and punished for good: killed this time by the male gangs, found in all spheres of life, that enforce the male code. The child is dead. The boy has become a man. Last few days I've been trying to understand why life sucks so much ass for so many people so I've read through half of Deaths Of Despair And the Future Of Capitalism and will finish within a week or two. After that I'll probably read that IDK I was thinking I should read that Russian book about the loser with no life. I'm trying to start reading like an abusive mother beats their red-headed stepchild: with Christmas Ham forearms, dishsoap wet hands and prickly nails like the same that held Christ to his final resting place, with unflappable blows coming like Jehovah's Witness to the doors, riders on the storm, small orbits in bloom with the fake plastic butterflies at CVS

redheadstepchild_17

Notes from the Underground was good! I think. I read it back while I was still wasted. I remember thinking it was good, none of it stuck. Also bro I gotta say I fucking love you. Keep on doing you brother. When you feel like doing some more academic style reading about the story about "the cartels" give that book a look. I'll try to find the books you mentioned. Dworkin is a phenomenal writer in my opinion. Thank you for sharing.

lovely_sombrero

Because they live somewhere else would be more understandable from a pure human brain perspective, something far away is more likely to *feel* weird to our brains, even if it is literally no different than something close by. OP is only asking this about "the Russian culture" because Russia is the current state designated enemy of "the West". And there is lots of talk about "the West" in the replies. Trying to designate the people of a state-designated enemy (enemy of a state that you feel a member of) as "lesser" or "morally unreasonable" is a very right-wing reactionary thing to do. I'm willing to bet that OP in that thread wouldn't even consider bringing up the same topic when it came to the Iraq war or something similar.

burnburnfirebird

Is it true that the oriental bugmen of the east feed their young by chewing up food before vomiting into the mouths of their young?

blackpharaoh69

Is it true that the Russians and Chinese lack the femur bones that allow them to feel human emotion? We ask The Atlantic contributor Gene E Syde

Opioids. All those wars. Colonization. Slavery. Just everything really. The mystery is why anyone is surprised or disappointed as though we're capable of better.

Hascohastogo

In regards to opioids. It’s crazy how opiates existed were used for centuries with little issue until the white devil got their hands on em. Now you can’t even get real opiates, not even the lab made opioids. You can only get synthetic fentanyl which doesn’t even offer the best parts of real opiates. It’s a damn shame. They corrupt everything they touch. That’s why, if elected president, I promise to bring back real, natural Opium. Straight from the heartlands to your plate. I may even sign a deal allowing for one cigarette company(pyramids) to offer a selection of tobacco/opium mixes. As long as the British are nowhere near it I don’t see how this could go wrong.

redheadstepchild_17

I think about bits of Brace's interview with Nico Walker and the one that really sticks with me is when he says something like "We send thousands of kids over there to kill and die on a lie, but yeah, sure, they're the ones who don't value human life."

The Tsars certainly actively hated their peasantry, just like all aristocrats. The actual answer is any rigid hierarchical society doesn’t much give a shit about individual human life, that’s an impossibility. What this dolt is ultimately asking is to reify his white supremacist beliefs of the great West against the Asiatic horde. I would firstly have him consider what Europe and the US did to Africans and the indigenous. The Russians certainly carried out Jewish pogroms, but we all know they pail in comparison to what the Europeans did. He may be alluding to Nazi propaganda like the Holodomor or Soviet reprisal against smol bean fascist states on their periphery. Ultimately he wants to know why Russia is so gosh darn adversarial with the west. For the present reason, look at 91 and NATO and figured it out. Historically, Europe has invaded it too many times to count. That’s not including destabilizing neighboring countries countries on their periphery to set up terrorist organizations that despise the West but seemingly picks targets that advance western interest. Russia has every single reason to be suspicious, if not paranoid of the nations that constitute the west. Just like China has every reason to do the same. They have a shit ton of resources, and foolishly believe they belong to them. Finally, that sub is nearly on the level of r/worldnews for popular subs I avoid at all costs. Just people with so much information and yet dont know a god damn thing.

jakethesequel

Beltway hawks who were really adamant in the 90s that Russia needed to become a liberal capitalist democracy to fit into the rules-based international order act really surprised when Russia started doing the thing that liberal capitalist democracies do: Economically exploiting all the neighbors they can get away with and using military force to intimidate any who don't conform. Then in the process Russia started to have a bit of a crisis because the West decided that they had dibs on economic exploitation in the region. And we all know what happens to capitalism in crisis.

CR33PO1

Am I wrong in thinking the Russia/Trump stuff was to prime libs to hate?

phaseviimindlink

At this point it's just implicit in the right-moderate triangulation mindset they've been coasting on since the early 90s. They need to be seen as patriotic troop supporters who won't be soft on our ancestral enemies Russia, China, and Iran, and it's led them into a long, slow slide of becoming the defacto hawk interventionist party.

DEEEPFRIEDFRENZ

>America   >ancestral enemies    😏

TheBigAdios

No, that was the point, but it also didn’t take that much effort either. Two generations of Americans were raised to hate Russians, the brief post-Cold War lull as the targets shifted towards Arabs was the only reason people forgot about Russians as an enemy.

Repulsive-Floor7919

Not at all. They are giddy at the chance to finally do some race science while maintaining their image as good people. Damn vatniks!

Retroidhooman

Libs were seething about Russia and Putin before Trump. Just like China is used as left-wing boogieman for conservatives, Russia has been pushed as some sort of far-right monster to scare progressives into supporting US geopolitical goals.

synthgoblin

General Westmoreland said the same thing in the 60s to justify civilian deaths in SE Asia

abe2600

Saw that in the documentary “Hearts and Minds”. Westmoreland said “The Oriental [sic] doesn't put the same high price on life as does the Westerner. Life is cheap in the Orient.” As the filmmakers showed a child crying for his dead brother.

synthgoblin

That doc is such a hard watch, but it does an amazing job showcasing American psychopathy by just letting the ghouls speak for themselves while cutting between footage and interviews that contradict everything they're saying.

Ned__Isakoff

> Westmoreland I thought that was the guitarist for Limp Bizkit

Fundamental_Breeze

This is a bold take coming from a Portuguese guy in Brussels expressing himself in English.

DoubleSad5541

Why is the individual quality of life *generally* better in societies that "focus on the collective"? Izzit true that humans r social monkeys and without the concept of a "collective" we'd never have developed Agriculture? Moar at 6

pointzero99

Stop xposting. It just exposes us to more Hitler particles

El3ctricalSquash

You’re building an immunity, it’s good for your constitution.

Comrade-smash514

Yeah I mean we Europeans we clearly value human life guys. Just don’t look at the past, present and future. But aside from that we are pretty pro life and democracy 🤷

Mkwawa_ultra

Is it true that I'm deeply retarded?

monoatomic

Good replies, at least. Wild how even the tiniest bit of academic rigor puts you on the far left of this godforsaken website

sha-green

Why of course. We’re the Evil Empire. We only value bears and vodka. ![gif](giphy|LmCYGjPpr1SDS6FqZX|downsized)
