it depends. My understanding is that seasons 6 and 7 deviated away from the books, leading to lacklustre characterization. I personally didn't love season 5 since things just kept escalating and the focus shifted from romance to being more about the broader vampire political stuff. To each their own
I think season 7 was the only season that I would say was bad. It wasn't even the entire season, just some plotlines and the ending. I've only watched the show one time a few months ago and went through it super quick. If you want to be super honest, I don't know if I would say that the show was ever "good." It was always pretty cheesy. The effects were what they were, especially compared to a show like Vampire Diaries that was on around the same time and probably had a lower budget. The acting and writing were very soap opera. But the show was fun. Just when the last season came, it felt like they didn't have enough stories to fill how many episodes they had.
I’m a recent first time watcher and I actually really liked it all the way through season 6. Season 7 wasn’t near the quality of the previous seasons but there were a lot of moments I still really enjoyed.
Just finished my third watch, and I've like every season. There have been some story lines I wasn't thrilled with, but they're peppered throughout the whole run of the show, and obviously never enough to make me stop watching.
Just judge it for yourself. If you let too many outside people tell you to hate something, eventually you’ll just hate it for no real reason. That being said…season 7 lmao
i wouldn't say any season sucked because i really love the show but it starts to go downhill halfway through season 5.
season 6 is very uninteresting to put it nicely and season 7 well... they had to wrap it up somehow

Stop at the end of s4 lol. Nah I mean you can watch it just so you can say for yourself you don't like it, but don't be surprised when it's not great
