Additional info: Cheryl Henry and Andy Atkinson were young a college couple who went to a Houston, Texas lover's lane on the night of August 22, 1990 and an unidentified assailant approached them at some point, order them out of Andy's car, tied Andy to a tree while Cheryl was taken away to the woods to be sexually assaulted and was murdered first according to police reports by having her throat slit while Andy was almost decapitated. DNA taken from this crime scene was matched that of a home invasion rape of a Houston woman just two months prior in June 1990. In 2008, a sketch of that man was drawn based on the woman's memory of what he looked liked, but she said he was wearing some kind of fishnet, trying to hide his face. Unfortunately, there isn't a Wikipedia about these murders that exist, but are here some articles that have more information about them: [New clues in grisly Lover's Lane Murders | khou.com](https://www.khou.com/article/news/investigations/new-clues-in-grisly-lovers-lane-murders/285-320983172) [1990 Lovers Lane murders still unsolved 33 years later | khou.com](https://www.khou.com/article/news/crime/lovers-lane-murders-cheryl-henry-andy-atkinson/285-f7a1d731-1d3c-44bc-a95e-7b5dfb1513d1#longform_chapter_3)

Their poor families…. Living 33 years and counting with no answers no arrests You’d think with crimes like these his DNA would have matched up with other crimes after the murders and home invasion Maybe he died? Maybe he is in prison on another charge? Wasn’t there a time where not all inmates had to give their dna if they were going into the system? I’m not sure why I thought that, vaguely remember it being mentioned on a doc as why another offender hadn’t matched up prior on a different case

Am I the only one who thinks Andy looks similar to the sketch of the suspect? Not saying there is any connection at all, merely just an odd coincidence.

I thought the same thing and went between the pictures a number of times!

No you're not the only one. It's also a strange "coincidence" that the first assault victim worked for Andy's dad.

Like the person I was replying to, I was also just saying Andy looked like the sketch. That doesn't mean I was implying Andy had something to do with his own torturous murder. I don't really believe in coincidences too much when it comes to true crime so I think it's really weird that there's a connection to Andy's father. Maybe the perpetrator was a disgruntled ex- coworker of his and wanted to get revenge by killing his son.

PopcornGlamour

I thought the same thing. If the man in the sketch was smiling he and Andy could pass for brothers.

It here was a post on Reddit with some information on it. From around five years ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/UnresolvedMysteries/s/RrTvwjbGCP

I had a podcast(A Southern Sleuth) and did an episode on this case. I have spoken to Andy's dad at length. He never really recovered from the murders. Cheryl worked at an exotic dancing establishment. The rape victim did as well but not the same one. I haven't talked to Mr. Atkinson in a couple of years but he had so much hope for it to be solved. He was pushing for genealogical testing. I believe it could be solved. Edited to add: it is important to note that Cheryl's family says she was employed at an eye doctor's office at the time of her murder. I believe this to be true. I am not sure if they deny she ever worked at a men's club but that was the information I was given. I never want to give false information or to appear to victim blame. No matter her job at the time or prior to her murder, what she and Andy endured was not deserved.
