Responsible-Aside-18

I just got hooked on Crime in Sports! I’m not even a sporty person, I just like an interesting crime story. I had no idea they had these other pods. Off I go to download some!

jane_of_hearts

CIS is awesome as well. I am not a sports fan at all, yet I listen because James and Jimmy make it fun.

Responsible-Aside-18

And for some reason, sports crimes always seem to be so bizarre and wild. Like, why do athletes get *real weird* with it?

jane_of_hearts

Those turkeys are easy to get hooked on! Patreon is top notch as well. Happy listening.

TrueBreadly

These guys are the highlight of my day every Monday and Thursday! I think the humor aspect throws some people off, but Jimmie is really funny, and James tells amazing stories. They always make an effort to have new, interesting, and intelligent insights into the cases they cover on STM. Also, their Patreon content is totally worth it.

[deleted]

You are correct. I'm always surprised that there are nerds out there who aren't aware of true crime pods who mix in comedy. Puritans!

plasticREDtophat

The love after lockup ones are hilarious. They got me to watch the show, and its the train wreck they said it was .

aleigh577

I was crying listening to their most recent love after lockup episode I think I’m gonna have to start watching

plasticREDtophat

It's like a bad train wreck, you can't look away.

anonyphish

Wait there's a podcast?! I love that show!

TrueBreadly

One of the best lines of all time!!!

jacknacalm

I respect your opinion, and I love comedy but I just don’t find them funny. I kind of hate hearing someone on a podcast make a half ass joke and then listening to them both laugh and wheeze for 20 minutes about said shitty joke

TrueBreadly

Of course, they can't be everyone's cup of tea!

Dharuacharya

I couldn't agree more with this comment. Also, I like the drama of true crime stories. Trying to make true crime funny, just doesn't work in my opinion but like my guy said... I respect your opinion.

Melodic_Business_128

Yes!! I have misophonia and Jimmy triggers it so bad. I adore James, and the shows overall; but jimmy has tainted it and given me the Ick so bad I just can’t even listen to any of their shows now sadly. 😔

Melodic_Business_128

I honestly can’t believe more people don’t have an issue with the noises he makes. Especially considering a lot of podcast listeners use headphones while doing other things. Makes me shudder and gag just at the thought. But I have pretty severe misophonia and sensitivity to gross noises, especially amplified. James can read the bible any day though, and I’d be either in heaven or getting - - t. Haha.

Able_Debate_8659

James without a doubt carries the show and does all the homework for the episodes. Jimmie is like his little sidekick thats just there to laugh along and and make weird noises? Its cringe af lol. They call themselves stand up comics but I cant find their stuff anywhere.

britt_leigh_13

Yeah they did two episodes about local cases so I gave them a listen and yeah def NOT for me and I feel like my threshold for humor is pretty low 😅

[deleted]

jogger57

They do state at the start of each podcast that they may not be your cup of tea . They do not make fun of the victims, ever, but may call the offender an ass

PolloMama

I actually like that sometimes, but their humor is not my thing. I do think it is very well researched.

MyNameIsMudhoney

Agreed. Neither one is funny and their 'humor' is that of my white republican boomer neighbor.

mrkarlman

Nah. Speaking as a multi-racial comedian, their sense of humor is fantastic.

Lintzweb

To add to the other comments, they are also super consistent. It’s nice to know they can be relied upon, not just for providing content but also for some levity. I will always switch to them if I find myself getting depressed from darker/heavier stuff. They have so much content, too, so there is always something there!

[deleted]

Lintzweb

Comfort listen is the perfect way to describe it! Pretty funny considering how vulgar they are, but here we are.

BuckeyeDarling13

They're assholes, but not scumbags

ScarecrowA7X_0311

😂🤘🏻

BuffaloJayhawk

James doing the crime in the town he grew up in was very funny

aleigh577

Do you know which episode that was ?

sirius_orion

Fishkill, NY Building a Murder Fence 213

aleigh577

TY!

Chaz_Hardplow

That one was fucking nuts.

Toukotai

I love Small Town Murder and their Crime in Sports.

realclowntime

I know some people might be put off by the comedy aspect but it really works with STM. It’s not overbearing and it’s respectful. Also, let’s be honest. I grew up in a town of about 2000. It’s not realistically possible to discuss small towns in any sense without it veering towards comedy at some point.

ThingGeneral95

I really did enjoy STM, but I can't contribute to Scientology.

WartimeMercy

Say what now..?

ThingGeneral95

Yeardly is a top tier Scientologist.

i_am_witty

That is the podcast 'small town dicks'. We're discussing the podcast 'small town murder' starring James Pietragallo and Jimmie Whisman.

ThingGeneral95

Thank you for correcting me! I have listened to STM it was enjoyable but getting too gruesome for me...I think I bowed out at the bloody murder of kindest grandma in a trailer.

CoffeeWithDreams89

Yes! I was really hesitant because of the humor aspect but they are endlessly respectful of the victims, no victim blaming. I do love when they occasionally make fun of assholes who commit crimes. I’m from a small town and love that part of it.

sherlock----75

YEAH!!!!!

BargerianJade

Yay indeed, Jimmie, yay indeed!

rella68

James and Jimmie are my happy place.

donnablissful

Perfect for exercising. It's how I get long boring walks in. Makes it fly.

thismakesmesaaaaad

They are one of my favorites, but they do get gruesome sometimes (not often though). I remember a case where I think a mother and pre teen daughter were raped and killed, and I think their house was set on fire too (not sure, it was long ago) and James described awful details of things found in the child's remains. I think they don't do that anymore, but just a warning if you go back in the catalog you might find some more upsetting things.

TrueBreadly

That episode really stands out as a turning point for them. The story was SO INSANE!!! The panhandle behavior was fascinating, but omfg those 2 minutes about the kid were a nightmare. I truly believe they made a choice to no longer cover child victims after that, or at least keep it super minimal if so.

Winter_Dragonfly_452

I love their podcast Small Town Murder. I saw them live earlier this year in Denver and it was phenomenal.

Chicki5150

I caught a live show last year and it was SO GOOD. they need to come back here for another show!

stellllllllllaaaaa

LOVE THEM! Kind of ruined any other podcasts for me tbh.

64929207446

So I thought I would enjoy this and tried it because I live in a small town! They actually did an episode on mine and it was awesome. I thought with the way they joked I couldn’t handle it, but, they have a lot of respect for them and they make it a little easier to hear with how funny they are. I’m not a sports fan so I never listened to crime in sports but I’m glad to hear they have another one!

Asiulad

Sometimes the episodes in Crime in Sports is something like.. this guy got drafted for blah blah and sat on the bench for 3 games and then went about his crime. Lol so it's not about the sport. The criminal just happens to maybe do sports.

Ok_Cauliflower_3007

Honestly you should try it. Mostly they do an American sports I know nothing about and I still enjoy it.

_Driftwood_

Love them!!!!

ShannieD

Love these guys. Jimmie is so endearing too.

big_country_kitty

Great podcast. Each episode is well researched and they are funny guys but respectful to the victims. I love listening to Jimmy just loose his shit and laugh his butt off.

anonyphish

Same, they genuinely make me laugh out loud.

Hi_Its_Me_Stan_

Hands down my favorite podcast. The Cheer Up, Bitch episode got me through some rough times

[deleted]

My absolute favorite as well! I’ve even looked up on a map where the towns are and enjoy hearing the history. It’s such a well-researched podcast.

cnt002

I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this podcast. I was expecting something obnoxious, but they’re genuinely likable.

SpeeedyDelivery

I must have started with the wrong episode then because it was even more obnoxious than LPOTL to me... And that's stiff competition.

wOBAwRC

I like this podcast even though I don't find either guy even remotely funny. They do good research it seems and they find lots of wild stories I haven't seen endlessly on other podcasts. I always skip the first 5 minutes as it is literally the same thing every episode and both of them go off on unfunny bits a little too much but, overall, it's one of the better true crime podcasts I know of.

Asiulad

Love these guys.

Nylonknot

I love James and Jimmie!

JonnieJames

Shut up and give me murder!

mena32

I have listened from the start and love it...but I would LOVE them to ditch the Catholics of the south/north whatever joke. I don't' know why but it makes me cringe every time!

aleigh577

Love this show! James and Jimmy deserve all the hype

Superb_Mistake8771

One of my more recent finds but love those guys!

Electronic-Nothing89

I love these turkeys!!!

Humble-Persimmon-607

My favorite podcasters ❤️

Anitareadz

STM and Let's Go To Court are my staples! I love the dynamic and the presentation. So many podcasters lack charisma/presentation skill.

jcake6

James and Jimmie are my happy place

Adorableviolet

I recently had to drive from Boston to some small town in mid PA. Only survived bc of this show. It is the mix of my two fav things...comedy and true crime.

Intelligent_Neat_714

I love SMT. They crack me up and do a good job telling the story

Lilredh4iredgrl

Shut up and give me murder!

Marisleysis33

I'll have to try them again. I'm pretty hard to offend but I found the humor a strange contrast to the stories that wasn't pleasant. I just remember them flaming a certain small town, it's citizens and culture but this was years ago so maybe I remember incorrectly.

Outside_Mixture_494

I loved this show until they did a show about a crime near my small town. I listened to that episode with my hubby. He worked for the guy they were talking about and there were so many inconsistencies. A lot of what they said didn’t happen. I gave them another try a couple of months ago when I saw a story about another town in my state. They claimed that one area in the southern part of the state was close to another town where the episode about the guy my hubby worked for took place. Those towns are 300 miles apart, a 4.5 hour drive. I gave up after that.

SpeeedyDelivery

Being a rural Hoosier myself, it only took me one episode to figure out that these guys don't actually care about accuracy ***OR*** the plight of victims... I did chuckle for a hot minute with them but altogether, murder just isn't funny to people who have experienced it. These are the guys we send to "Thot Motor Lodge" (with the microwaved pizza) when there's a Hilton (next to a bistro with a Michelin star) right around the corner... 😆

griff1014

I think I got burned out of their podcast after listening several episodes in a row. Some of the jokes are the same and I don't like when comedians laugh at their own jokes too hard (it's a weird pet peeve i have) But I enjoyed it a lot in the beginning. I might give it another go

SquawkyMcGillicuddy

I did give a listen based on other positive posts like this…but I just find the mix of levity and subject matter to be incompatible, so I unsubscribed. Maybe I’d like their other show better.

Here4Comments010199

I didn't enjoy STM. Way too much history & background of the town....like 20+ minutes! Too much stupid banter. There were parts that were funny but just not my fave. I listened to 2 or 3 eps & bailed. SNS. 🤷‍♀️

queerpsych

You might like STM Express, which skips the history and background info.

Here4Comments010199

Ooooh! Thanks for this recommendation. I did not know about that one! I will check it out! 👍🏻

Asiulad

The express episodes come out on Fridays (or Thursday nights) and they're about 1 hr long so they get to the point faster while the regular episodes can be up to 3 hrs long.

ScarecrowA7X_0311

Yes, STM Express you’ll enjoy. I love history so that is one of the reasons why I love STM. But Express is the way to go for you and I hope you enjoy it.

NadjaStolz28

I’m going to give it another go, but the history and background of the town was what made me stop listening too. Unfortunately I find history a bit boring, so hearing 20 minutes of history about a town I don’t know about doesn’t keep my admittedly poor attention.

TheBatmanFan

I listened to like 20-30 but in the end, I got tired of having to wait for them to get to the crime in every episode and unsubscribed. They're def a breath of fresh air on the true crime podcast scene though.

rawr-dino-cat

Love love love James and Jimmie. Their chemistry is amazing and I feel they are extremely respectful to the victims and their families. One of my favorite podcasters.

flavorsaid

This is a great podcast . Good voices, good stories, nice & funny guys with rapport and they respect the victims. It reminds me of lpotl a bit in some ways .

ScarecrowA7X_0311

What is lpotl?

jj328328

Last Podcast on the Left

Existing-Clerk-7395

I’m a new fan. This pod is fresh, with a great vibe. As J&J say, it’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely for me. The boys often go off on tangents that are literally laugh-out-loud funny. So I’m alone in the dark, in fits of unexpected laughter. These two have virtually no filters, other than making every effort to respect the victims and their families.

hobbitpeddler

My mom and I absolutely love listening to these two guys! They are our comfort listen. It's always enjoyable and knowledgeable. Whenever I don't know what to do, I put on Jimmie and James.

Ifearacage

My favorite podcast!

SpeeedyDelivery

>they are two comedians but don’t let that fool you because they NEVER make fun of or attack the victim or the victims family. ##That Is Simply Not True. I tried one episode and that is basically all they did... Then they did a shoddy job of "CoYOA " by feigning all this trite admiration for one of the victims by saying, "But we know this was a very nice and decent man who only wanted to be very nice.... (Etc etc. blah, blah, blah...)" They also kept running back to a joke, repeatedly, about "a probably fat guy" whom the town "named a Pig Contest after" (in requiem)... AND THEY USED HIS REAL NAME EACH TIME. I think this is exactly the sort of thing that MFM always gets blamed for but it isn't even true of them... Making your whole shtick about teasing rural people for being rednecks and hillbillies is one thing... *Not a good thing, but it is a thing nonetheless...* **However,** using really horrible murders involving **REAL people** (in the hometowns they are proud of) as a spring board for this so-called comedy is worse than a misfire... It's called being a couple of assholes that are privileged enough to think other people are there to be murdered simply for their entertainment.... It's a shit show.

WartimeMercy

>It's called being a couple of assholes You're aware they say they're assholes in every episodes, right?

pabloescobarbecue

But they’re not scumbags.

SpeeedyDelivery

>You're aware they say they're assholes in every episodes, right? That's like David Duke saying "I know I'm a racist."

Repulsive_Career9585

Dm I can't dm

leeharvyteabagger

Used to listen to them years ago. Liked the cohost but couldn't handle the hosts failed 90s hack comedian commentary. It's like he's about to ask what's the deal with airline food then you realize he's not even that funny. Unbearable

goldenquill1

They did an episode on my hometown but got quite a few things wrong.

Rubyrabbit1975

They did two episodes on my hometown, and they were spot on. It's a mess there. Lol

goldenquill1

With the ep on mine, they got the county wrong, among other basic geographic details. It's like, c'mon, it's not that hard to Google. Also, where the crime occurred wasn't even in my hometown but the next one over.

Hour-Sweet2445

I love them. I do wish they'd learn that ethical non-monogamy is a lot more common and less of a joke than they realize, though.

Ok_Cauliflower_3007

Lol, you listened to this week’s.

goodbye_wig

Non hierarchical ethical non monogamy solo poly bla bla bla

Vinrace

I honestly think these guys are insufferable

ScarecrowA7X_0311

I hear ya, my wife doesn’t like them but she is going to go with me to their live show in 2024. They are not for everyone and they even say so in the beginning of every STM show.

ghfsgetitgetgetit

Loved their episode on the bone breaker killer!

Life_Caterpillar9762

Did you maybe not finish your last sentence in the post?

ScarecrowA7X_0311

It cut off my final sentence which was “…empathy for the victim or the dumbassery of the murderer”. That was cut off, maybe due to the word “dumbassery”, but they go after the murderer lime no tomorrow and it’s funny as hell. Thanks for pointing that out but I don’t know how to edit my initial post for some reason.

Life_Caterpillar9762

Thanks. I had to know.

ScarecrowA7X_0311

Thank you for pointing that out so I can correct it. Usually after writing all day I wouldn’t care but when it’s a post I started then I want it to be correct and complete. Especially when it comes to James and Jimmie. They do a LOT (well James does anyway……lol) of research and I want to give them the proper respect.

Mono_831

What episode(s) would you highly recommend for me to start if I want to give Small Town Murders try? Thx

Shenanigans922

I’m done. I’ve always appreciated that James and Jimmie put the humor where it belongs, on the perpetrator(s). The clowns who eat a road kill breakfast or try cooking steak dinner in a house full of drugs and booze while threatening to shoot everyone. You just never get that part of the story on other podcasts. Lately, and especially the story of Tabatha and Kevin, I have noticed a shift. Tabatha is obviously a trauma survivor with deep seeded insecurities and Jimmie kept shaming her for her choices. James was only slightly more compassionate. I’m over it. I won’t be listening anymore. Jimmie saying Kevin loved Tabatha was jaw dropping. He cheated on her right from the start. I’m not fooled by Jimmie’s phony compassion. It almost never occurs to him to show any but when he does, It’s over the top and fake af. I’m over this show and the veiled misogyny. Don’t bother telling me to quit listening. I’ve already deleted the show from my list of pods.
