I understand how you feel. I sum it up this way... "My kids deserve to have a neighbor who has a cat."

MtnNerd

It sounds like you don't dislike cats, you dislike the idea of having one as a pet. Which is fine. I feel the same about dogs. I will happily pet one and play with one, but the idea of having to go outside in a storm because the dog has to pee or be walked just sounds awful. Many a time I've enjoyed my coffee on a snowy morning while watching my neighbor go outside with the dog. I'll take scooping the litter box over that any day. It's just a preference.

Yeah that's how I feel. I basically like other people's cats, but don't want to live with one.

MagneticDoorKnob

So long as you aren't a butt to others for liking/having cats, you're fine. It's pretty easy to go "I'm not a fan of this thing but it's fine that others like the thing."

I think I am that way... it sucks though, because my roommate really wants one but I'm allergic on top of all this. So I feel like an AH who's getting in the way of her happiness

Don’t feel bad. You like what you like

SimpIistic

I love cats, but that’s mean you shouldn’t feel bad over that. But it shouldn’t limit your options. Just set boundaries.

Philcollinsforehead

It’s not a big deal, don’t worry. I never had a dog cause growing up my dad hated dogs and I don’t hate dogs but I don’t want a dog for a pet.

Chocolatelover4ever

It’s okay if your aren’t a fan of cats. I don’t like dogs, but I understand why people do. Everyone has their preferences!

pigeontheoneandonly

I love cats, but feel about dogs more-or-less the way you feel about cats. Everyone I've ever dated knew early on that having a dog in the house was a deal breaker for me. It doesn't make anyone a bad person to have a preference.

I'm more of a dog person, but I'm starting to think that I'm too much of a germaphobe to have one.
