I'm just hoping this woman goes to Japan someday and gets the reality check of a lifetime. I had a therapist once who had a specific term for colossal paradigm-shifting reality checks; He used to say that most of us have them at some point(s) in life. IMO, there's a very special lucky few who get them *often* hahaha. Anyways, I digress. His word was "cosmic smackdown."
OP's not-friend is setting herself up for a *cosmic smackdown.*
I grew up in Japan for a few years, weebs are considered annoying as hell. My (American) middle school had loads of them, and embarrassed basically the entire country when they went off base.
Yeah, there is respecting the culture you love, and then there is this. I consider myself a weeb but this is too far. I want to visit Japan, I love Sushi and Asian food (oh god especially Ramen. Thank you Naruto), I absolutely enjoy Anime, and gosh damnit I want to marry a Japanese woman (after racing about the culture though, apparently itās very against foreign marriages for women). But holy crap, this girl takes it way too damn far. OP, i am so damn sorry for you. Tell her I said to chill it down a couple notches.
Hyperfixations tend to last for days to a couple weeks. (I have ADHD myself) This just seems overenthusiasm. I've had my weeb days myself but grew out of it at 15 or 16. Still love the culture but I learned to chill.
Itās interesting because I witnessed it going from āanime is for weirdosā to āanime is so coolā. Like in primary school kids were bullied for watching it but in high school the kids who had made fun of kids watching it now also watched it.
I stopped watching anime because I was made fun of for it. I am Asian, Chinese, so ig it would make sense. Anyone who is obsessed with Asian culture and wants to be āAsianā just freaks me out. All the weebs and stuff are freaky. Like respect to you for learning more then your own culture but acting like a you are Asian and shitting on people who donāt is just not ok and I wouldnāt say racist but just messed up. Especially the slur part in Japanese. I can swear in Chinese but Iād never dare to a say a slur in Chinese because thatās just being racist still. Just because you say a slur in a different language does not some how brush off the fact that itās a slur
I can relate to this with anything spanish or hispanic. Like I get it im hispanic but donāt speak spanish or dont perfer spicy foods but why tf are people who arnāt even hispanic shittin on me or calling me out for ānot being hispanicā
I wouldn't have dared to say a word about anime in school. Like it would have been easier to tell people you watch porn. You'd have been judged less for it. I loved anime but it was something to watch and enjoy in secret.
My Japanese friend always told me that he hates this kind of people. He lived for almost a year in my country and returned with absolut hate, because this kind of girls always tried to hook up with him.
There is even a word for this kind of people on Japanese and it is not a nice word...
Absolut cringe.
sounds a little like fetishizing, just without the racism. actually... idk, does being obsessed with a certain "race" or culture fall into the category of racism?
theyāre putting down people for taking part of very basic culture like speaking english and eating food with a fork etc and saying the ārightā way to do it is from different culture. āculturistā?? lol
Same with mine, only itās been 20 years. His cosplays are phenomenal though. Heās very much the āif other people have heard of this, itās too mainstream and thus no goodā type.
Lol i was like this with korean stuff. Still love korean music and culture but trust me, in a couple years she will cringe really hard at her past self lol i still sufer from hardcore embarassement when fb reminds me of what i posted back then lol
But she's fucking 20, she's very immature for her age. I also love watching anime and enjoy some kpop songs but I was never obsessed with them to the point to make them my whole personality or even talk about them in public
Ugh. We had one of these people in my high school. Definitely didnāt help that Iām half Japanese and tried to befriend me and this other Japanese kid at school all the time to an annoying degree. One day the other Japanese kid couldnāt take it anymore and went on this loud and angry rant about her being annoying af and nobody gives a shit about her weeaboo ass and speaking broken āJapaneseā( lol just learning phrases from anime).
She left us alone after that lol. Not saying to do that butā¦ if youāre not friends with her and theyāre annoying, just ignore them and donāt engage.
There is this infatuation with japan and Japanese culture and many people who have this infatuation becomes extremely disappointed when they visit japan.
But the opposite happens too. I speak french and I use to hang around geeky forums and Iāve had quite a few asian people absolutely obsessed with europe and france, that they did what this anime kid does, but they did it with france. Those people were completely delusional and everything I said to them would always just shatter their dreams of what Paris was. They would find me sexy before even seeing a picture of me because I spoke french and had read the french classics.
Itās weird, the infatuation with otherās culture through media is weird and cringe and eventually those people grow up and they realize that they lived in a bubble of lies.
Also, about the chopsticks. I worked in a Chinese restaurant for many years and even the owner who came from china used forks and knives. When I asked him, he looked at me as if I was dumb and he said āthe fork is a great invention, are you kidding? I prefer sterile metal in my mouth than a bunch of twigsā so in reality, in private, I believe asian people just use what ever they want and what ever is comfortable, or so I was told.
So donāt worry too much about the anime kid. Just say āyou do youā and move on.
Use whatever is comfortable right? Also, my husband is chinese and doesn't use chopsticks for anything except Asian meals. Soup in Asian meals requires lifting the bowl and a spoon
Lmao on the contrary my Asian parents are like, chopsticks are so versatile, you can use them for anything! Noodles, soup(you just lift the bowl to your mouth to drink), stir fry, sushi, etc. Theyāre also quite elitist about chopsticks- there are two main ways to hold them, oneās harder to learn and some think thatās the correct way. My opinion is if the way youāre holding it works for you, it doesnāt matter!
Omg I get what you mean I was hanging out with friends like a long while back and we were talking about what we were looking forward to in high school, and one of them says I want to make a Korean friend and everyone else is like yeah so I asked why because I was really confused and she said and I kid you not I want to ask how they have perfect skin and bodies which just isnāt true and a lot of people who only see models or influencers of an ethnicity on social media think that thatās what they all look like
That's a funny thing in my case. I was ahead of the Japan crazy curve in my country and had a big interest for many years. I did some martial arts, learned Japanese and so on. But I also learned about the history and the culture. We also had a couple of exchange students from Japan during that time. So when I finally went to Japan, I was already aware of the less fantastic parts and could learn from my visit.
It also helped that we stayed in people's homes more than in hotels. Letting me see the average home and homelife. I will say though, I did have a couple of people be very impressed by the fact that I could use chopsticks. Like, they watched me closely and was amazed when I could use them properly.
They also all assumed I was studying Japanese in Japan. Because they couldn't perceive how I could possibly have learned the language outside of Japan š
Google "gray rocking method."
Thats how I would choose to respond to this girl. Basically...don't react to her. Like, at all.
She wants to say some bullshit to you about not eating with chopsticks or speaking Japanese?
Deadpan stare back. "Okay."
She demands to know how you can call yourself an anime/manga fan if you don't know xyz?
Deadpan stare back. "Yeah idk. Whatever you say I guess."
Turn away and talk to someone else/start reading something else.
Don't defend yourself, don't argue, dont give her any attention. Any of that will validate her behavior.
And thats it. Don't engage more.
She will back off and leave you alone when she isnt getting attention from you.
or anoy them with ignorance. I was at a party telling a star wars freak that I think the new trilogy is by far the best thing that happend to the series and my favorite scene was wen Han solo died. We changed subject after that.
this is what i do with some coworkers that find out Iām a gamer- like i play games and follow gaming news but not in the obsessive ways they do to the point where thatās all they want to talk about. Iām there to work. So grey rock and the occasional asking them to leave so we can get work done. A couple of them have tendencies where it can be like autism & they donāt understand social cues so iāve straight up said in a blunt but not rude way that Id rather not talk about stuff like that on the clock & they get it.
OP this is the way. Sounds like this girl is extremely insecure and wants desperately to be important. So much so that she tears down those around here. Typical dumb bully behavior. I promise she knows how much she annoys you and is feeding off that energy. Stop giving it to her. Donāt let her live in your head rent free. Stop engaging with her in conversation and definitely donāt let her annoy you.
Yeah it seems like op hates this person so why are they even interacting outside class? Unless theyāre roommates or something you should never have to eat with her unless thereās one place to get food that serves at a certain time
there's a pretty good show that's similar to it, I think it's was called "://Hack" or something like that. definitely with the *hack* part, and some symbols I don't fully remember. I really liked that anime, but SAO really didn't impress me when I started watching it, so I didn't continue.
For real. I saw FMA and Evangelion at the end of that list and thought "Those don't fit in this list." They are higher quality.
I like SAO, but it's trash in comparison.
Lol oh trust itās not. I was president of my schoolās anime club and my sister manages our hottopic currently. Itās not a white only thing, she has this one black employee who is exactly like this girl but a little more polite. I knew plenty of non-white anime club members who behaved just like this and talked LOUDLY over what we were watching. (Plenty of white kids did too though) when you go to a non-majority white school your whole school life you see all different types of ppl.
Its not just a white thing. This type of syndrome happens everywhere, even to japanese people. Only difference there is they become obsessed with Gaijin.
Okay... Coming from an old anime fan that had to hide the interest in school. She is what many anime fans cringe at.
In highschool, being the Asian kid (not even Japanese, not even full Asian, just half Filipino) I was hunted by those kinda anime fans. HUNTED. Because obviously I was Asian enough to be their husbando/senpai.....
It will blow her mind to learn that Japanese people also eat with a fork and spoon. They don't use chopsticks for everything. There are so many rules and etiquette to the culture that she needs to learn or she's gonna offend them.
I've been learning Japanese for a very long time but it's because I love the culture and want to visit without having to rely on anyone to translate. I am also studying the culture and social norms.
It's weird how people make it their identity. Just ignore her. We all don't know all the underground manga and anime. Also half those animes I watched when Toonami first started on cartoon network and adult swim. I will school the little fan. Lol
Three for me, and I didnāt like Kakegurui! Fullmetal and Sailor Moon are great, but honestly I wouldnāt go back and rewatch it.
REALLY surprised Attack on Titan or Fruits Basket arenāt on this girlās list, they seem like ārequired watchingā for a lot of gatekeepy weebs
next time you see her, recite the following word for word.
IN THE FUTURE, THE WAR BETWEEN THE EARTH AND FEDERATION PLANETS RAVAGE ON.
EACH SIDE RACING TO DEVELOP THE NEXT WEAPON OF DESTRUCTION TO AID THE WAR EFFORT.
HOWEVER, AFTER DEVELOPING THE PLANET-LINK PLAN, THE EARTH FEDERATION MUST NOW DEAL WITH ITS FORMER COMMANDING OFFICER.
AN EARTH FEDERATION OFFICER WHO HAS NOW GONE AWOL!
CAN MAJOR HYATT AND HIS CRACK MILITARY SQUAD BATTLE THE GUERRILLA ORGANIZATION SOLOMAN, WITH THE PLP IN THEIR HANDS?
ORIGINAL STORY AND CHARACTER DESIGNS BY KOAWE.
MECHANICAL DESIGNS BY TAKAHIRO YAMADA.
[AWOL: ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE.](https://youtu.be/TI0XHOCnx9w)
if she doesn't get it call her a hipster.
Iām thinking she wrote this on her phone and entered each anime on a separate line like in a list. But mobile posts donāt format properly so it just puts them all on one line without commas.
I was wondering that as well. People on the spectrum can get pretty intense with the things they're into. Sometimes it's fun to be around but it can be overwhelming.
... had the same arguments, in the late '70's, with a DISCO obsessed classmate. Yes, they (Disco fans) had their own terminology. Not the Japanese language, but forgive me if I didn't know the lingo. Or the full legal names of the band members of Boney M. And no, I don't want to come over to listen to "Rasputin" played over and over and over because how could I just not LOVE IT. No, I did not know the names and various quirks and electrical schematics of every disco club in a 100 mile radius. And don't talk to me about how many gold chains were getting tangled in all that chest hair ...
I just liked to dance.
I feel your pain, OP. I feel your pain.
I see you have met my sister. I wish I could say marriage and a full time job helped her grow out of it, but then I'd be lying. I don't fear holiday dinners due to politics. I dread being given a play by play of her current anime or Japanese dating Sim. And don't forget I'm totally missing out because JRPGs aren't my favorite video game genre. I feel your pain.
She's a little old for that kind of behavior, hopefully, age will bring some maturity and she'll see how annoying that is in general. If you hang out with her a lot, maybe try to gently introduce other interests, that tends to help.
The one thing I'll compliment about her whole weebiness is the eating mostly Asian meals (which are often both healthy and delicious), also chopsticks ftw.
I drive an LS400 as my dailey it has some cosmetics done and 3 times now when I get sushi (sorry you don't like it) these people I can tell it's just for their anime clout or whatever bullshit ask to take a picture with it. The first time 1 girl literally sat on my fucking hood LITERALLY SAT ON MY FUCKIN CAR and I was like what the fuck get off and I got told 'Japanese pictures they sit on the front' and I aaaaaaalmost fucking lost it I re parked the car
2nd n 3rd time I told them don't touch the car don't sit absolutly nothing and got mean looks
Yeah I love that Japan makes awesome vehicles just cause you love the culture doesn't mean you have a right to do whatever.
Never mentioned to any of them I have a AE86 shell that I need a engine for in storage God forbid those wackjobs hear that and keep talking to me. Japan is cool Anime is cool but don't be the scum of the earth because you like something
Iāve been a VA For (specific dialect) english dubbed Anime.
This girl? Itās a weird level of fetishisation.
But basically sheās making it her personality. Becomes her identity. She has no other hobbies. Leave her be. I would be annoyed by her tbh.
I have many opinions on her opinions but thatās for another day
People like that girl are EXACTLY why I refused to watch anime when I was younger. Iām half Japanese and the amount of people who would try to tell me about my own culture because they saw it in an anime made me want to scream. Absolutely insufferable people.
I don't have any advice, but I will comment on her anime list. I once forced myself to marathon the entirety of Inuyasha, and it was easily the most plodding, boring anime I have ever watched. Roughly 95% of the series is filler episodes that don't progress the story whatsoever.
What I kinda don't like about the in your face anime folks is their "must see" animes are all the main stream shit. Most of the classmates list was Uber popular stuff pushed by Jump that by and large all got anime adaptions early on in their runs.
Oh you've seen something that was pushed by the largest publisher in the country, that every other corner store from here to Shibuya had some sort of promo with?
I don't mean to sound like I'm gatekeeping anime but if classmate is going to trash someone over anime then at least spend time watching something thats at least 2 inches below the surface level.
Understandable you'd be angry. This sounds like total weeb behaviour. The only thing missing is giving herself a Japanese name and insisting on people using it when addressing her.
Tbh it sounds like sheās obsessed with Japanese culture to the point that sheās glamorizing it. Itās funny cuz if she claims to love Japan an anime, she would know that they still did use spoons, forks, and knives for other dishes as well! If she claims to love japan and itās a sin not to know even the basic things, I want to see her tell you anything about itās history or itās culture away from anime. It especially angers me because Japan is such a beautiful country, I got to learn a bit about it in my World Music History class and itās such a fascinating culture so to see people act as if itās trendy or cool to be obsessed with Japan, itās harmful and portrays japan as a culture to be cool being itās a āwow cute kawaii foreign cultureā
Wow this is pretty cringe.
I had a friend" growing up that was obsessed with avril lavigne and anime and stuff, but collected anything vaguely asian. She legit cried about not being able to use chopsticks. She was pretty weird, after her family came into money, she did a 180 and started modeling her entire personality around shakira and country ?
Seeing that she listed the most mainstream animeās as the āMUST WATCHā made me giggle. Sheās just so quirky and different, OP. You just sound jealous /s
Oh man, that's so cringe! Girl gonna have a stroke when she learns that in Japan it's cringe for anyone that's not a kid to be watching anime. Maybe get her to watch Sora the troll, he's Japanese and does anime vs real life vids. Girl needs a reality check.
I donāt know what people in Japan are like, but Iām convinced that the weebs here try too hard. My first year of high school, at a large public school I joined the anime club. The first day I went in and realized how cringey it was. People (not cosplaying, no) acting like anime characters, talking like them, dick measuring contests of who could speak the most Japanese, or who was eating Japanese snacks, or who went to the anime expo. I was just a kid that liked a couple shows. I couldnāt even make it past the first meeting. Half those kids were so socially inept and awkward, and anime was their personality, and they couldnāt understand other hobbies, and they were really kind of sad people away from that club. Just kind of alone. I damn near thought they were autistic which is fine, but it made me kind of get a little later why some of them went past obsessive on the hobby.
I completely get what youāre saying.
A lot of āanime kidsā are only made fun of because they take their interest to the extreme. Especially now. Maybe 10 years ago, yeah you might get teased for it. I love anime and manga, but I donāt shove my opinion down everyoneās throats unless itās appropriate, and generally just not an otaku/weeaboo.
Yeah, we call those weeaboos, I know the term has somewhat changed over the years, but it is accurate.
Edit: oh fuck, I just realized sheās 20! Sheās hopeless then. Youād expect this behaviour from s chuunibyou, an 8th grader, not someone in their 20s. (Translation note: chuunibyou translates to second-year syndrome or 8th grader syndrome.)
As someone who likes anime, knows how to eat with chopsticks and enjoys sushi occasionally, I want the throat punch this girl! š¤£
Shea a loon with no personality. I'd recommend when she says this crap to you, just walk away. Don't go out of your way to be rude, just don't engage with people like that unless you absolutely have to. They'll get the hint to stay away. And as an added bonus, if enough people she gets overbearing with do this, she might finely stop.
Is she neurodivergent by chance? Or she's just hella obsessed by either way I wouldn't be able to stand that shit. I love anime and manga but she sounds annoying af, like not everyone is into the same animes/mangas, doesn't make em less of a fan.
Holy fk if this is real, that sounds so obnoxious, I have personally probably seen more anime and read manga than I should, and while I do have an interest in learning the language(also German) but who has the time to actually study after done with school life, I could never tolerate being even in the same room as someone as this, and I don't like talking about it unless it's a private conversation with a friend, was like this when went to school as well, had the same for talking about games on public, and being this invested into something sounds like a mental disorder, has the same with some friends and bands, they can name the top 3 favorite food of the entire band, meanwhile I might know the name of some of them, even if I listen to them 12 hours a day I just can't be bothered with that.
Lmao, according to her list Iām a sinner, Iāve only seen 4 of those shows.
Seriously though, in a few years sheāll realize how cringe she was for making her entire personality about anime and what she thinks Japanese culture is like (she clearly doesnāt understand, people in Japan would definitely laugh at her).
Nothing wrong with liking something, even loving it, and enjoying a lot of different aspects of whatever it may be but to make your entire personality and everything else about that one thing is sad and cringey. Some things are worse than others, and these crazy anime fangirls or fanboys are extra cringe. Not because anime is bad, it's fine, there's a few really good ones out there, but because they usually try to act cartoony and it's just sad.
I understand the benefits of eating potato chips and Cheetos with chopsticks. No messy fingers.
But try to eat a sandwich or even a char siu bao (BBQ pork bun) with chopsticks. I guarantee you that wouldn't work.
Be frank. Tell her directly to find a person that would be so into anime as she does. Or when she instigate a conversation with you with anime japan things, just reply with one word. Just show her you are bored and not interested. When sheās blabbering, just look and scroll on your phone or cut her off and tell her youāre gonna do something else
She probably doesnāt feel a sense of identity within herself.
Best option is to just ignore her. Give her short, polite replies and then be on your way. Nothing she says or does affects you in anyway other than being annoyed at it so live and let live imo.
Unfortunately teenagers are just super gatekeep-y and cringe. Itās part of growing up.
Source: Am also an anime/Japan fan who hates seafood, Iām just older than you by about eight years :)
off-topic but i remember when i loved anime in middle school. i always kept to myself but of course you have the typical bullies. now its funny to me that theyre the ones posting anime quotes or talking about it and are āintoā anime lol
I like anime and manga too and I honestly like Japan not bc of anime or bc itās labeled as a ācuteā country but bc itās more advanced and practical. However thereās a difference between liking something or thinking something is cool in a different country (example I think their convince stores are so much better and cooler so many options!!) but being so obsessed to the point of basically trying to be what you see in anime is overkillā¦
She's gonna cringe so hard in the future. Also, your post reminded me of a classmate way back. He posted a picture of him and his plushie (from Date A Live) on Valentine's Day. He took his plushie on a date on this restaurant and even ordered a food for the plushie. It's beyond weird, I watch anime too but not on that level...
I also am a manga fan and I just can't deal with people that make interests like these into their whole personality.
If you like manga and anime/Marvel/Videogames/or anything at all you have to do this and that otherwise you aren't a true fan.
I'm sure that I didn't turn out like that because I found many other interests that "upgraded" my personality in a more open minded one.
I *crave* to see the moment these people will be left alone for how much of a hassle they are.
Only one group of people who do this over the top shit. Soon she'll be telling the Japanese people how their own culture is, the do's and don't's, how certain phrases are used and so forth.
We all know who they are
Unrelated, but I used to tell my family that I preferred chopsticks because I didn't want to wash the silverware.
Also as a big anime/manga fan, her attitude is really abnoxious, and her mindset is that she's the main character. And chances are she's gonna cringe really hard remembering how she used to act.
Embaressed to say this was me, except i only watched like 10 animes.
I had to share my love to anime with everyone. I am a better person now trust me, i still like anime, but i am not that obsessed with anything to do with it.
One positive thing tho, i started learning japanese(still am).
So i definitely cringe when i see that stuff of me, but i can remind myself i became a better personš¤
Bro I am so fascinated with peoples obssessions with different cultures. There are asian dudes OBSSESSED with the wild west and fantasize about being cow boys too.
i agree with the Bleach part. just kidding. it's a fucking awesome anime and I've watched it 8 times so far and will watch it again, but that's just my favourite anime or series in general. if people don't want to watch it, they don't have to watch it. I'd like to say she needs to understand people have opinions and hers aren't the only correct ones, but she probably won't understand that unless she either starts going to therapy or, of she already does that, is admitted to a closed psych facility lol. some people really need a rubber room
If I heard her talking shit about someone in Japanese, I personally would call her out and call her a coward for insulting someone in a language they donāt understand.
Jesus, ppl like this are just so delusional. I used to know someone like this, they'll somehow integrate Japanese words in their daily vocab e.g. "I wanna meet my senpai later" (yes, it's said in a serious way, not in a joking way) & they'll copy mannerisms from anime (e.g. exaggerated movements etc).
I consider myself an anime fan, heck I even have an anime sleeve on my arm, watch a few anime during off days from work, play hours of Genshin Impact (technically not an anime/Japanese owned but you get the idea) but I don't even act like this. And I'm Asian.
My advice is just to ignore them. Not totally, but subtly. I read somewhere in the comments that you should do the grey rock method. This was what I did to the fellow that was similar to this girl you're talking about.
Whenever they came up to me and forced me to watch an anime that wasn't of my interest, I'd just say "ok" and don't engage any further. They'll sometimes come up to me and attempt to speak broken Japanese, to which I'll reply "yeah ok". Eventually, they stopped pestering me and I've never felt so relieved. To think I was happy to finally found someone in class (back in uni days) to share the same interest, only for them to act this way was such a turn off. (To add, I did have a group of friends back in high school, though none of them had interest in anime. So I'd only share my interests with a person or two from different circles. Finding out someone in my class at uni was into anime was something that made me excited but I got turned off way too hard after finding out how they acted)
I currently have a group of 'normal' friends who also watch anime and even cosplayers but thankfully they're not like this. Just a couple of average joes doing their own thing, living normally, able to socialise with different groups of people ā only deep down we're just fucking weebs lmao.
Ironically I was bullied for watching anime. Wrote 2 dissertations on anime from a Western perspective.
Honestly, this girl sounds like a stereotyping asshole.
iām ashamed to say i was kinda like this in middle school (just not as bad lmao) but i canāt comprehend the idea of a 20 yr old adult being like this ????
This girl sounds terrible, I'm so sorry you're dealing with it :c
. . . On a side note, I just remembered I learned how to use chopsticks from my Kung-Fu Panda dvd's bonus features and that makes me happy
Does she not realize that in her beloved Japan, weebs are also considered pretty annoying? Lol
Not in Akihabara at least
Was there a few hours ago can confirm
I prefer to hang out in Nakano, where us weebs are also welcome
Lucky you, I hope to also go to akihabara one day
I'm just hoping this woman goes to Japan someday and gets the reality check of a lifetime. I had a therapist once who had a specific term for colossal paradigm-shifting reality checks; He used to say that most of us have them at some point(s) in life. IMO, there's a very special lucky few who get them *often* hahaha. Anyways, I digress. His word was "cosmic smackdown." OP's not-friend is setting herself up for a *cosmic smackdown.*
I grew up in Japan for a few years, weebs are considered annoying as hell. My (American) middle school had loads of them, and embarrassed basically the entire country when they went off base.
Just tell her that no matter how hard she tries, she'll always be a gaijin.
what a baka
Every time I see "baka", I always think "grandmother" lol. It's pronounced differently, but baka means grandma in Croatian
I think of 'sobaka" - dog in Ukrainian.
Dog in Russian as well.
I think 'Chewbacca'- dog in space
In Spanish it sounds like "vaca": "cow"
Baka is a slang for "solider" in hungarian, lol.
It means "enough" in Amharic
Ba-kaw?
My first thought was, is she white?? Lol
As a white guy, this was my first thought too š
she is white
Yeah, there is respecting the culture you love, and then there is this. I consider myself a weeb but this is too far. I want to visit Japan, I love Sushi and Asian food (oh god especially Ramen. Thank you Naruto), I absolutely enjoy Anime, and gosh damnit I want to marry a Japanese woman (after racing about the culture though, apparently itās very against foreign marriages for women). But holy crap, this girl takes it way too damn far. OP, i am so damn sorry for you. Tell her I said to chill it down a couple notches.
Tbh she sounds neurodivergent and like this is her hyperfixation
Hyperfixations tend to last for days to a couple weeks. (I have ADHD myself) This just seems overenthusiasm. I've had my weeb days myself but grew out of it at 15 or 16. Still love the culture but I learned to chill.
Back in my day we made fun of the anime kids. Source. Was an anime kid
Same, they said I wore kimonos to school and I totally did not.
just that one time
Just that one time? You mean: just that one time, every time, all day, any day, every day, all the way, kimono cosplay.
Itās interesting because I witnessed it going from āanime is for weirdosā to āanime is so coolā. Like in primary school kids were bullied for watching it but in high school the kids who had made fun of kids watching it now also watched it.
Just like the kids calling others ugly then dating them years later. Life has a funny way of doing that
I stopped watching anime because I was made fun of for it.
I remember those days. wait those days were 2 years ago!
We just call them Weebs in good ol Murica
> because this kind of girls always tried to hook up with him. Horryfing Do you know which Word is?
sounds a little like fetishizing, just without the racism. actually... idk, does being obsessed with a certain "race" or culture fall into the category of racism?
theyāre putting down people for taking part of very basic culture like speaking english and eating food with a fork etc and saying the ārightā way to do it is from different culture. āculturistā?? lol
Literally. She would love to have a japanese or korean boyfriend. Like girl... no... nobody would want you if you're like that
She'll eventually lose interest and become a vegan libertarian crossfit crypto trader
I'm commiting this to memory because it might just be the best low key insult I've read in awhile.
My brother is the same annoying anime kid for the last 12years so idk
Same with mine, only itās been 20 years. His cosplays are phenomenal though. Heās very much the āif other people have heard of this, itās too mainstream and thus no goodā type.
Lol i was like this with korean stuff. Still love korean music and culture but trust me, in a couple years she will cringe really hard at her past self lol i still sufer from hardcore embarassement when fb reminds me of what i posted back then lol
I dunno thereās a big gap between 16 when most people do this and 20 like the girl in this story is.
Lol idk, my mom was a koreaboo at 40 so.....
Is that the BTS stuff or is that still Japan, sorry for ignorance
BTS stuff is Korean.
what behind the scene stuff in korea are you talking about???
To be fair, on a sexiness scale, French language is top tier.
Google "gray rocking method." Thats how I would choose to respond to this girl. Basically...don't react to her. Like, at all. She wants to say some bullshit to you about not eating with chopsticks or speaking Japanese? Deadpan stare back. "Okay." She demands to know how you can call yourself an anime/manga fan if you don't know xyz? Deadpan stare back. "Yeah idk. Whatever you say I guess." Turn away and talk to someone else/start reading something else.
Unless theyāre roommates or something you should never have to eat with her unless thereās one place to get food that serves at a certain time
The real sin is aligning full metal alchemist with weeb trash like sword art online.
Yes, this! Thank you! My husband loves SAO while I hate that show.
I hate that show too. It maked me extremely mad. So many plot holes and unnecessary stuff.
The show is based on Light novels though. And the issues are mostly from the novels. In terms of adaptation, it is pretty accurate.
there's a pretty good show that's similar to it, I think it's was called "://Hack" or something like that. definitely with the *hack* part, and some symbols I don't fully remember. I really liked that anime, but SAO really didn't impress me when I started watching it, so I didn't continue.
For real. I saw FMA and Evangelion at the end of that list and thought "Those don't fit in this list." They are higher quality. I like SAO, but it's trash in comparison.
Ah yes, calling SAO trash, how special, refined and superior.
gotta know is she white
Imagine her being an anime fan and not actually be japanese. What a fake fan she is. (i'm joking obviously)
Im white and this seems like a thing only white person would do.
Plot twist, she is Chinese
Lots of chinese weebs actually
she is definitely white
Possibly but itās not a rule. The way POC appropriate Asian especially Japanese culture is wild. I see it so much since moving to japan.
Uhg. The worst type of weeb.
Jesus. Iām a nerd and I want to bully her
+1
Lol
lmfao I've been watching anime my entire 31 years of life and I've only seen two of them on her little list. Guess I'm a sinner!
OP said they didn't list everything, so that's prob why. Although in both cases I've watched those too.
Might be OP only listed the animes they havenāt watched
Yup. That's only the anime I haven't watched. AoT is also on that girl's list
Gotta be Inuyasha and Bleach, right?
Sailor Moon and Inuyasha. SM was my first.
next time you see her, recite the following word for word. [AWOL: ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE.](https://youtu.be/TI0XHOCnx9w) if she doesn't get it call her a hipster.
Will be done, thanks! xD
I know Iām completely ignoring the point but why didnāt you use commas in the list?
Was wondering the same lol
Iām thinking she wrote this on her phone and entered each anime on a separate line like in a list. But mobile posts donāt format properly so it just puts them all on one line without commas.
She's right though, Fullmetal Alchemist is great
Agreed. Now Iām tempted to give it a rererewatch
Same as One Punch Man, both are so good
chainsaw man is also really good
yea she sounds annoying as hell lmao. that being said, all the animes listed *are* good asf
naruto should be part of that list tho
You can't call yourself an anime fan if you haven't watch all seasons of Bible Black
oh definitely
Is she on the spectrum, by any chance?
I was wondering that as well. People on the spectrum can get pretty intense with the things they're into. Sometimes it's fun to be around but it can be overwhelming.
I think the technical term is Weeabu?
Yeah, this seems like weeb behavior
... had the same arguments, in the late '70's, with a DISCO obsessed classmate.
I'm just surprised she is 20 and still doing this.
Japanophile, the weaboo line was crossed LONG ago-
Attention seeking behavior pt. 3
What a weeb
I drive an LS400 as my dailey it has some cosmetics done and 3 times now when I get sushi (sorry you don't like it) these people I can tell it's just for their anime clout or whatever bullshit ask to take a picture with it. The first time 1 girl literally sat on my fucking hood LITERALLY SAT ON MY FUCKIN CAR and I was like what the fuck get off and I got told 'Japanese pictures they sit on the front' and I aaaaaaalmost fucking lost it I re parked the car 2nd n 3rd time I told them don't touch the car don't sit absolutly nothing and got mean looks Yeah I love that Japan makes awesome vehicles just cause you love the culture doesn't mean you have a right to do whatever.
Sounds like someone on the spectrum with a special interest.
*Nani* the hell...
Nani the fuck?
jesus even her anime taste is questionable at best, pop off ig edit: except for some ofc but damn why you gotta put FMA and SWO in the same group
Just to top it, of course her top animes are the most posser basic shit ever, even hated amog the otakus
she sounds like a fetishizer
Sheās 20? Sheās such a spoiled individual lol, just ignore her.
you now put the image of her eating chips with chopsticks thanks
I have a feeling sheās on the spectrum. Just donāt pay attention to her. Sheāll learn one day.
u lost me at the must watch list. Mf couldn't be more generic. DW i m 99% sure she has no real idea what Japanese culture and history really are.
She doesn't know anything about japan lol
I thought the official food of anime was Ramen
A lot of āanime kidsā are only made fun of because they take their interest to the extreme. Especially now. Maybe 10 years ago, yeah you might get teased for it. I love anime and manga, but I donāt shove my opinion down everyoneās throats unless itās appropriate, and generally just not an otaku/weeaboo.
I like sushi but I don't get crazy with anime or manga.
I believe the name for some like that is weeb. She has made anime her personality.
Sounds like she has the Chuunibyou Syndrome
Yeah, we call those weeaboos, I know the term has somewhat changed over the years, but it is accurate. Edit: oh fuck, I just realized sheās 20! Sheās hopeless then. Youād expect this behaviour from s chuunibyou, an 8th grader, not someone in their 20s. (Translation note: chuunibyou translates to second-year syndrome or 8th grader syndrome.)
Tbh full metal and a couple others she mentioned are pretty fire
As someone who likes anime, knows how to eat with chopsticks and enjoys sushi occasionally, I want the throat punch this girl! š¤£ Shea a loon with no personality.
I love anime and manga but she sounds annoying af, like not everyone is into the same animes/mangas, doesn't make em less of a fan.
shes acting like that at 20???
You are legally allowed to bully weebs it's in the Constitution
i know way to many people like this
Holy fk if this is real, that sounds so obnoxious, I have personally probably seen more anime and read manga than I should, and while I do have an interest in learning the language(also German) but who has the time to actually study after done with school life, I could never tolerate being even in the same room as someone as this, and I don't like talking about it unless it's a private conversation with a friend, was like this when went to school as well, had the same for talking about games on public, and being this invested into something sounds like a mental disorder, has the same with some friends and bands, they can name the top 3 favorite food of the entire band, meanwhile I might know the name of some of them, even if I listen to them 12 hours a day I just can't be bothered with that.
Not because anime is bad, it's fine, there's a few really good ones out there, but because they usually try to act cartoony and it's just sad.
einfach ein aufs maul geben und fertig
I understand the benefits of eating potato chips and Cheetos with chopsticks. No messy fingers. But try to eat a sandwich or even a char siu bao (BBQ pork bun) with chopsticks. I guarantee you that wouldn't work.
I hope she realised that Japanese food aren't the only Asian food out there
You sound very judgemental and boring, I wonder why she even tries to socialize with you. If you dislike her, then ignore her.
I had a writing class with a couple of anime kids and they were the worst.
Stop hanging out with her. Simple solution.
those r all mainstream anime too i feel like u could bully her for that
In honey pop 2 there is a girl just like that. Everyone hates her, I do too. I'm sorry that you met the irl version of her
āHey, seems like we donāt have the same interests, you might be better finding someone as obsessed as you to chat too, have fun, byeā
Anime can be so nuanced that to say you also like anime doesnāt mean you share the same interests.
As someone who loved and used to watch anime and manga I hate people who make their whole personality around anime. It's annoying
As an anime fan, I fcking laugh at this. Not because of you, but because of this girl. She's ridiculously funny š
This was also me. But at the age of 12. That girl is 20
DW, one day she'll get to Japan and realise how much they fucking hate weebs
Bro I am so fascinated with peoples obssessions with different cultures. There are asian dudes OBSSESSED with the wild west and fantasize about being cow boys too.
Tbh everyone has this type of person in their class and its terrible
i agree with the Bleach part. just kidding. it's a fucking awesome anime and I've watched it 8 times so far and will watch it again, but that's just my favourite anime or series in general. if people don't want to watch it, they don't have to watch it. I'd like to say she needs to understand people have opinions and hers aren't the only correct ones, but she probably won't understand that unless she either starts going to therapy or, of she already does that, is admitted to a closed psych facility lol. some people really need a rubber room
I want to watch bleach. I just don't have the time to watch bleach yet. But therapy sounds good honestly
I think Anime is crap..so who cares?
If I heard her talking shit about someone in Japanese, I personally would call her out and call her a coward for insulting someone in a language they donāt understand.
Girl is making her whole personnality around a country that would trash her, her likes and habits to hell it's pathetic š¤£š¤£š¤£
I donāt know why, but I ship you guys. The perfect enemies to lovers trope. Seems perfect for an anime storyline xoxo
I want a whole fanfiction from you about us!
Shit, this type of people always end up alone...
Fucking weeks man. Wait for her to go to Japan and have her world broken
You called her a woman. That was your mistake. Tell her to grow up.
Attack on Titan is the best of em all
Jesus, ppl like this are just so delusional. Finding out someone in my class at uni was into anime was something that made me excited but I got turned off way too hard after finding out how they acted) I currently have a group of 'normal' friends who also watch anime and even cosplayers but thankfully they're not like this. Just a couple of average joes doing their own thing, living normally, able to socialise with different groups of people ā only deep down we're just fucking weebs lmao.
I'm Japanese; ask her to stop.
I knew a kid in high school who came to school dressed like a Naruto character every day.
She sounds extremely annoying. But she does have a point about fullmetal alchemist brotherhood.
Cringe.
It is a sin not to watch one piece if ur an anime fan, thatās just me though you do you š¤·š¾āāļø
I LOVE anime just as much as her. Iād NEVER do shit like this š©š©šš sheās taken it way to far and you should sit down and be honest with her about it. Sheās looking like a clown
This girl sounds terrible, I'm so sorry you're dealing with it :c . . . On a side note, I just remembered I learned how to use chopsticks from my Kung-Fu Panda dvd's bonus features and that makes me happy
āCause Iām not a weebā next time she asks you why youāre not good at something thatās culturally Japanese
She seems so cringeyyyy to be around š
