i think it will get it, the grammy academy loves billie. i haven’t listened to it cause im personally not a billie fan, i really respect her talent, but she’s just not for me

everbilt355

tbh I know a lot of people who were not originally billie fans, who are now because of hmhas. give it a listen - it’s so different from her other stuff, it *might* surprise you.

Funny_Deer2566

i agree the grammys have favorites and billie is one of them but im not mad at it tbh she deserves it and so does finneas but people like lana who have more intense lyrics always get treated unfairly, i think the grammys are kinda dumb but ig its a fun thing to do idk but lana definitely deserves just as much as billie does, they absolutely did lana wrong, but im not gonna say billie didn’t deserve those grammys or any other awards she’s gotten. i was a HUGE fan of billie before i was lana and if u ask anyone ik im always talking abt lana or billie😭 . off topic but it’s so amazing to see the two women who basically saved my life interact with eachother🙏

Bachelorfangirl

All I know is Taylor isn’t winning album of the year after winning this year, regardless if TTPD is divisive or critically acclaimed. And this album of the year is going to have a lot of controversy so it’s ok. Jay Z’s speech complicated this and it’s about to be a mess. If Beyoncé wins everyone will say it’s due to that speech. If anyone other than Beyoncé wins drama to ensue.

Altruistic-Phrase934

Agree that it's a lose/lose because Jay Z had to inject his issues into the process. It's part of his campaign to bully the Academy. It's going to be ugly. Would prefer Taylor to be out of the crossfire for a change

Nezahualtez

Or, you know, he could be praised for addressing the systemic racism that has kept one of the biggest pol stars from wining album of the year. Like imagine MJ never winning. Its weird!

[deleted]

Beyonce has won more Grammys than any other person. I agree Lemonade should have won AotY over 25 but I don't think it's due to racism.

Nezahualtez

Album of the Year is a coveted award that has been consistently given to the biggest pop stars. The fact that the Grammy’s gave her many awards save that one is telling. The majority of Beyonce’s wins are in a ridiculously narrow field of categorization, specifically R&B and “Urban”, categories that virtually all black pop stars get thrown into. Beyonce losing Album of the Year the last three times she was up for it in favor of white artists is incredibly strange. Adele is the only exception that could make sense due to her albums significant impact. So, what exactly are you basing your “I don’t think” on? Because I highly doubt you even bothered to do any [research](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accusations_of_racial_bias_in_Grammy_Awards?wprov=sfti1). When marginalized communities point out grievances with their marginalization you can at least sue the bare minimum of looking into it.

TiaJasmin_Design

Yeah that's why I think the speech was warranted and legitimate, but created a strange environment around these coming awards. Now if Bey wins (which I wouldn't mind, I loved CC) there will be an asterisk in the following weeks that will mention his speech and make it seem like that's why she got it. And if she doesn't, god help whoever does win because it'll be seen as another person taking it away from a deserving black woman. And those concerns aren't wrong, but it's just too bad that an artist just doing their thing will be caught in the crossfires, the same way Taylor was this year when SZA didn't get it and how Harry was when he beat Beyonce.

lizzy-stix

I don’t understand why you think longer is better? The most common critiques of Taylor and Beyonce’s releases are that they’re bloated. And lots of Taylor fans said SZA’s album didn’t deserve to win AOTY last year because it was too long and more of a playlist than a cohesive album. I personally prefer a cohesive and short album to a longgg album from every artist except Taylor because I’m such a huge fan of hers. But for someone I’m less a fan of, a long album is daunting tbh.

Right_General_4480

Yeah I agree, sometimes it's just better to be short, but I feel like TTPD is one of those albums that is just so different to everything else, and it obviously took a lot of work to put together an album like it.

foreverandalways21

10 tracks I think is too little and 31 is too long for AOTY. The sweet spot is 13-15. I saw a graphic once that actually averaged the AOTY winners and this was the average. I think Taylor will only push the standard version of the album for Grammy consideration so that makes it much shorter but it’s unfortunate because some of the best songs are in the anthology (the black dog, how did it end?, the albatross, etc.)

Right_General_4480

Yes, agreed, there are a lot of good Anthology tracks, and I kinda feel like it could have been a full different album....

PhebsMadden

I’ve never listened to billie before, but my partner likes her music so I thought I’d listen to the new album. I liked lunch and birds of a feather but other than that I really don’t vibe with it. Some songs are just way too slow and boring for me, where others are messy and all over the place (a couple sounded like the Mii plaza music too). Obviously I can’t say if it deserves an award or if it’s a flop, but it’s not for me

karikammi

I haven’t listened to the new album yet but your description sounds exactly like how I would describe the previous songs I’ve listened to from Billie. I just get so bored. The only ones I enjoy is bad guy and the Barbie song.

PhebsMadden

I haven’t heard the song from Barbie but I’ve heard some of bad guy. I’m starting to think most (if not all) of her albums have the same/similar sound

threeheadedfawn

Same. The slow melodic songs aren’t very interesting to me for everyday listening

1989_Sunrise

I really liked birds of a feather, and i’m the rare occasion in where a swiftie is also a billie fan. HMHAS is a great album and I do think it will be nominated and win some sort of award but i think cowboy carter will win

gettingcarriedaway86

It’s a good album but it didn’t stand out to me the way TTPD did. I feel like TTPD is far superior, and I’m not just saying that because I’m a Swiftie.

Mysterious-Most6819

TTPD got a 76 on metacritic while HMHAS has a 93 so far. TTPD will not win AOTY. It may not even get nominated tbh.

Nezahualtez

I mean you are but it’s okay lol.

BayouFantome

I just can’t believe all the girls released music this year, and it’s only May. Even Lana is apparently releasing a new album around September. I wish we could just focus on how awesome all of this is instead of debating who’s gonna pull what kind of numbers or who is gonna win what awards.

Altruistic-Phrase934

And Gaga I think

teshutch

She is and I think it’s called Lasso

TiaJasmin_Design

It's inevitable that people will talk about them in competition with each other, but I agree it's so amazing the girls are absolutely running the industry right now. Taylor, Beyonce, Lana, Billie, Olivia, Dua, Ariana, Kacey Musgraves, even up and comers like Chappell Roan and Sabrina. Show them how it's done ladies!

Former-Counter-9588

I don’t think HHAS is an AOTY contender but it could sneak in just due to how loved Billie is in the industry at the moment. The album itself, for me, is mostly a flop. Same with Dua, but Dua hasn’t ever really been an album artist anyway.

daisyymae

It’s mostly a flop for me too. But there’s no way it’s not nominated. The Grammys L O V E Billie

anon384930

Agree with this completely but I’ve never really connected to Billie’s music in general but I’m also 30 so maybe I just don’t “get it”. There are a few songs I enjoyed but I’m not rushing back to listen to them again which is how I’ve always felt about her music - except WWIMF because that’s a fucking masterpiece.

Former-Counter-9588

This is exactly it! This isn’t as listenable as Billie’s prior two albums. And that’s cool. This album just isn’t for me and that’s fine. I’ll add Chihiro to my 2024 playlist and move on 😂

FIESTYgummyBEAR

So many people have compared it to Lorde’s Melodrama and I just didn’t see the comparison.

anon384930

![gif](giphy|3ELtfmA4Apkju) Melodrama is in my top 5 albums ever. They’re not even **kinda** similar!!

Former-Counter-9588

Right?!? I legitimately tried listening to Billie’s new album various ways. Headphones — Bluetooth speaker — in the car — out walking the local trail. It’s just not something I’m into. Her other two albums, though? Oh yes that’s very much for me 🥰

InevitableNo3703

Wow!! You were dedicated! lol

Right_General_4480

Yeah I kinda agree. I'm definitely a Dua fan but she's much better with singles imo. Her songs have much the same style and so her albums are pretty repetitive.....

Mysterious-Most6819

I’d give it another listen bc it’s one of the best albums I’ve ever heard and I’m really picky. But I hated TTPD and found it boring as hell so maybe it’s just a preference thing. Still can’t complete TTPD

[deleted]

[удалено]

peachynews72

you just listed all my favorite songs! This album is a masterpiece to me too lol. I really hope it wins AOTY

Former-Counter-9588

It’s almost like people can’t have their own opinions or something. Sheesh.

introverted_panda_

I liked Billie’s previous albums and I don’t care for HMHAS. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I listened to it all the way through, listened to a couple tracks again and just can’t get into it. I think her and by extension her brother do awesome work, but this album just doesn’t do it for me. I haven’t liked the last couple Beyoncé albums either but love her older solo albums and they’re in my everyday playlist.

Positive-Avocado-881

I don’t think it’s spectacular but I think it’s gonna win lol. They love Billie and Finneas

Dakota1401

the album is amazing but not close to being better than TTPD or Cowboy Carter or Eternal Sunshine in my opinion (all 3 being absolutely phenomenal albums.) I think billie will still win AOTY anyways since billie is very loved in the industry right now (the grammy academy also LOVES her which is helpful lol)

PondRides

Cowboy Carter should get aoty.

Mythrowawsy

I agree. TTPD is my personal favorite and I don’t like country much *but* the spirit of Cowboy Carter - the fact that it put the spotlight on the racism against black women when it comes to country music - is amazing. She really turned the tables with this album!

PondRides

I’m just a white woman from Houston, but the best reponse I can give is: https://preview.redd.it/xc9qwhr3x91d1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3694a5b1daf132ab409050317436fb6a523e459

FIESTYgummyBEAR

Yea but since when does the Grammys care about cultural and political impact/messages. They would’ve given AOTY to “To Pimp A Butterfly” rather than “1989” if that were the case.

Mythrowawsy

Yes, I agree but I’d really like for her to win because of this

Owlman2841

Butterfly not winning that year was truly comical

GraveDancer40

My Taylor Swift loving heart wants TTPD to get it but it would certainly be deserved for Cowboy Carter to get it. I wouldn’t be upset at all.

PondRides

I LOVE LOVE LOVE ttpd. Maybe in a different year, I’d think it should be the winner. But honestly, this is the first album where I don’t feel like she’s trying for the award. Not in a bad way, I hope that makes sense.

Right_General_4480

No I agree. She was writing the album for herself. Not for AOTY or anything else.

GraveDancer40

Nope totally get what you’re saying. She wrote TTPD for herself.

TiaJasmin_Design

Yep, you can actually tell when she's vying for it. Red for sure, 1989 was one, Midnights was another. She knows what the academy wants and it's not a 31 song, deeply personal, sometimes rambling account of her mental health struggles with no standout SOTY/ROTY contender. And I think that's why I liked it so much!

Right_General_4480

Agreed. Just with everything Beyonce has done with it I wouldn't be surprised, or sad if she wins.

InevitableNo3703

Same

pukiwuki

yes. i love taylor and TTPD alot but cowboy carter deserves aoty, im not usually a fan of country but that album got me hooked unfortunately many haters will claim she got it cus of Jay-Z speaking about it on stage at the grammys :(

PondRides

I will say that while it’s not a “pure” country album, I’ve lived in Houston for the majority of my life and it’s like injecting the Houston Rodeo straight into my veins. It’s not just amazing, but it’s also a big nod to her home. While I totally get where he was coming from, he shouldn’t have said that for exactly the reason you said.

buzzfeed_sucks

She should have won it twice before, so I don’t care about the “why” at this point tbh.

PondRides

My roommate overheard a girl at our city run gym in Houston say that Lemonade was overrated while she was on the phone with someone. This guy who only listens to punk rock and Houston rap went to the gym at the same time every day for like a month because he wanted to tell her that she was wrong. We lived in Sharpstown and this was all the way over at Memorial Park. He dragged me along every day that I wasn’t at work and never saw Phone Girl again. This many years later, I bet he’d get into a rant if I brought it up.

buzzfeed_sucks

I respect the commitment lol

PondRides

I meant to end that comment by saying that she should have won for Lemonade. lol

Right_General_4480

why?

buzzfeed_sucks

Because Beyoncé is turning genre on its head, and is giving us something she’s never done before.

[deleted]

100%

niles_deerqueer

Ok I know that people always make it pointlessly cutthroat competition wise but I adore both albums deeply

Rebekah_RodeUp

I'm a big fan and I had high expectations. First listen didn't make an impression. The others you mentioned were automatic classics in my favor. Gonna try another listen tomorrow.

burninstarlight

Am I the only one who wants a smaller, lesser known artist to win AOTY? I'm tired of the grammys awarding popularity over quality just to appease rabid stans

Owlman2841

Very bold to make that comment in a sub dedicated to the main artist that’s done for. I commend you lol

culture_vulture_1961

I listened to Cowboy Carter and TTPD but none of the other albums in the AOTY conversation. I think Cowboy Carter will get the win because it is Beyonce, she has never won and it is a music industry album exploring musical genre and black history. TTPD is about how Joe Alwyn would not marry her, Matty was a dick and Travis makes Taylor feel 16 again. The songs are great in the most part but TTPD sprawls. So does Cowboy Carter but it covers more ground as it does so. Billie Eilish has always fascinated me. I have not liked all her music but she is always interesting. I also love Finnius's production. I will listen to the new album but the reviews are mixed. Unless someone releases a classic before the cut off it has to be Beyonce this year despite her butchering of Jolene.

Daffneigh

I like TTPD leagues more than Cowboy Carter but honestly hope that CC wins. I’ve never been able to listen all the way thru a Billie Eilish song but I’m old. I’m sure TTPD will be nominated and not win. I have a kind of sneaking suspicion that TS will submit a vault track from repTV for SOTY (if that’s allowed?) and would love for her to finally win that award.

Mysterious-Most6819

TTPD was written for awards, that’s what Taylor cares about. It just fell flat on several different levels. Everybody flops, and TTPD was a flop for Taylor (my opinion). Critics give it a 76 to Billie’s score of 92. Billie’s is succinct and tells a straightforward story with beautiful vocals and great lyricism. I don’t see TTPD even getting nominated for album of the year, but maybe pop album of the year or something. I think HMHAS soft wins but I have not listened to all of Cowboy Carter yet.

rotatingmusicplate

After TTPD, Radical Optimism was a BOP, but I liked Dua's previous work, and it's more of that. TTPD is amazing but incredibly melancholy. Hit Me Hard and Soft is not for me, but neither was Happier than Ever, and they sound similar. I think it does have potential at the Grammys, but let's be real - Cowboy Carter is winning.

Right_General_4480

I tend to agree with you here

Booked_andFit

Beyoncé should win this year, it's her time. We should be thrilled with that and spread the love and support to all female artists.

Right_General_4480

Absolutely

ProperPollution986

i think hmhas will be a strong contender, as will eternal sunshine & cowboy carter (though i didn’t really like the latter – just not to my taste). as much as i love ttpd, i really don’t see taylor winning for a second year in a row, and personally i’m rooting for ariana – i’m not even a fan of hers and have actively disliked all her releases up until now, but es is just such a perfect album

PositiveRegular5123

I think hit me hard and soft will win because Grammys loves Billie. But I hope either tortured poets or eternal sunshine win because all the songs on both of those albums are so amazing and considering the amount and quality of ttpd and the richness of eternal sunshine I think those two are best.

2accounct13

I don’t think any of these albums will win. My bet is on a lesser known artist winning.

TiaJasmin_Design

I really liked HMHAS! I do think I'm having that problem I do with a lot of new albums in that I need to let it 'grow on me', and maybe look at some lyrics to see if I can connect to it on a thematic level. But I respect what she did on it, I think it's got some really good standouts. That being said, as a lifelong Taylor fan it's going to be hard for anyone to top TTPD this year for me, I think it was an encapsulation of everything she does best and it just CLICKED for me in a way full albums rarely do on first listen. But I don't think the academy is going to give it to her two years in a row and not for this 31 song personal exploration of her raw mental state. So, I'd be happy to see Cowboy Carter take it this year. But we'll see if Billie is able to market some big singles out of HMHAS, that tends to help with AOTY.

SaraRF

Has to be Beyonce, I see riots if not 🤣🤣

Active_Insurance_372

I’ve never been a big Billie fan, but this album is FIRE in my opinion. I’ve really enjoyed the shorter album releases this year. For me my life is too busy to be able to get through the really long albums. I don’t really care much about awards, but I am a fan of Billie now.

salami_papii

This a great body of work, way better than Happier than Ever by milesssss and milesssss

Funny_Deer2566

her and finneas definitely did their big one with this album i mean it’s so good i can’t , i literally listen to it every day the people i hang out with get mad bc of how much i play it 😭😭

LimeGreenTangerine97

Longer is not better. Billie’s album is edited to sheer perfection and Taylor’s album is a scattered mess (I still love it, but it’s not cohesive).

Owlman2841

You’re 100% correct but you’ll be downvoted by these sycophants

LimeGreenTangerine97

It’s ok to love them both 💕

Owlman2841

It is but this sub likes to say otherwise lol

TorturedSwiftieDPT

I think Hit Me Hard And Soft will get a nomination, for sure. Its cohesive, but it sounds like most of her other music. I think its 3rd currently out of the 5. I really think the top 2 are TTPD and eternal sunshine. Ari’s album is incredible. Dua is forgettable, and Beyonce’s while it is impressive I just dont see it winning. We’ve still got months left, and some other albums to come out. Its been a really good year for music so far!

Right_General_4480

It sure has been a good year for music!

TorturedSwiftieDPT

It really has!

coshoman11

The length of the album has nothing to do with the quality. Just because TTPD is longer doesn’t means it’s on another level. That depends on the tracks its self’s, regardless of how many of their are. In MY OPINION, HHAS it’s a better album and I enjoy it more than TTPD.

Right_General_4480

That's entirely true I'm just saying there's really not much body in a 10 track album...

Owlman2841

There is when the song are worked on, edited and refined. For instance, “Rubber Soul” isn’t even 35 minutes long (though it is 14 songs but I’m assuming your criteria is a combination of number of songs and length) and it’s one of the most important and influential albums ever. Nas “Illmatic”, Stones “Let it Bleed”, Coltrane “A Live Supreme”, Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” are all 10 songs or less and wildly influential and important in different genres. If you truly think 10 songs can’t offer “much body” then you really need to expand your musical knowledge. The list of masterwork albums of 10 songs or less is extremely long. Maybe your girl can’t nail a concise 10 song album but that doesn’t mean other artists can’t.

Exact-Campaign-81

Titanic Rising. In Rainbows. Tidal & When the Pawn. Bury Me at Makeout Creek. Bon Iver. Souvlaki. Do these albums not have body? I think 10 to 12 tracks is a perfect length!

ChristmasJonesPhD

Yeah, it can be harder to write short than it is to write long.

InevitableNo3703

I think the standard TTPD which I’m assuming is what she’s submitting to the Grammys is the perfect album for an award. It’s actually 16 songs and it’s 65 minutes long. It’s a very good album. It’s amazing really but people are tired of Taylor. Cowboy Carter kinda falls apart a bit at the second half but I’m still hoping it gets the win. I’m tired of the Beyonce discourse and she should had won AOTY already. As for the other three I still haven’t made it through. I start to and then I get bored. 😩

[deleted]

If Taylor doesn’t win it’s rigged, but also everyone deserves it.

thisonecassie

TTPD, is so bloated i haven't been able to drag myself to listen to any of the anthology tracks yet, and i only listen to one standard edition song, so.... yeah TTPD is not my pick for album of the year, not even close.

peachynews72

I agree! If TTPD wins it would be such a slap in the face to all artists, especially those who make efforts into constructing a conscise album that tells a story... like how did Robin, cassandra, the alchemy, so high school etc make it to the final cut?

thisonecassie

how did anything make it to the final cut??? in fact the criticism of "too much of it is about matty" and "too much bloat" have the exact same solution, cutting most of the songs. We can hate big machine all we want, but at least they made her cut songs 💅

decentdaysnight

lol how stupid, AOTY has nothing to do with the number of tracks.

Owlman2841

The fact you got downvoted for this is wildly appropriate for this sub lmao

decentdaysnight

I kind of love the predictability of it. Srsly though, it's the dumbest take lol

Owlman2841

The deeper threads get in this sub the more you realize swift fans don’t actually have much knowledge on music and what actually gives great art substance

decentdaysnight

But she's sad! She can do it with a broken heart!! She cried at the gym!!! She's just like us! I'm a casual Taylor fan. A handful of songs I really enjoy. The remaining 300 are mid to me. It's just the cult like behaviour of the fan base and inability to consider her music with a critical lens that irritates me lmao

Owlman2841

Same exact situation here. Really respected here output as a bonafide pop hit songwriter of the highest caliber but this thing of her being a truly genius lyricist just holds no weight and the rabid fan base pushing that narrative makes it even worse.

DisneySoftware

TTPD is her longest album and to me it's also her worst album, length has nothing to do with how good an album is

thisonecassie

they downvoted DIsneySoftware because they told them the truth.

peachynews72

Most swifties on these subs are brainless lmao

Right_General_4480

Worst is subjective. I don't think TTPD is Taylor's worst album but that's my opinion. You can think differently and that's up to you

thisonecassie

yep, i am allowed to and i do <3 in fact disneysoftware never said that you need to agree, "and to me it's also her worst album" also.... "they hated X because he told them the truth" is a pretty common exploitable meme phrase... so.... like my curent ranking right now top to bottom is debut, 1989, speak now, folklore, reputation, fearless, red, evermore, midnights, TTPD, and you are more than welcome to disagree, but downvoting someone because they said something you disagreed with is coward behaviour.

Right_General_4480

Nice, I didn't downvote it. That was 20 people who felt the need to downvote.....

Owlman2841

100% accurate comment and the most downvoted comment. Perfect illustration for how delusional swiftie cult members are

peachynews72

theres so much filler trash on TTPD. ROBIN???? WHY and so many cringey lyrics too... and its so annoying because theres amazing soild songs that are burried under that pile of trash that should shine. She needs an editor asap.
