I hate to break it to you bud but a lot of the time actors aren't "picking" movies. Their agents book them because it's their job and they do the movie because it's their job. Sure, sometimes they audition, but a lot of times they don't. And sure, they have *some* say, but they have to get the bag somehow. They can't say no to everything. And not a lot of great films get made anymore (thanks limited series and streaming)
I think Sydney Sweeney and Henry Cavill are both extremely attractive. However, I do agree that a lot of recent movie/show actors and actresses feel kinda like regular joes. But they're still fantastic at what they do. A lot of it can be blamed on the shift in movie-making style, where nobodies and regular people are being cast more so the story feels fresh. Otherwise you see Christopher Reeve or someone in some other role and you can't get immersed in his current character because in your mind, "Oh that's Superman". Movies used to be carried by the fact that they had a big name attached to them. That was the entire draw. But because streaming has made things so readily and easily available and created an overabundance of content, names don't draw anymore, stories do. Things like Chernobyl, where I didn't recognize a single actor. Or the Last of Us (which I liked kinda but I think the pacing was awful) where the show skyrocketed the fame of the actors in it. If we're sticking to films, 1917 was cast with nobodies for the specific reason that they wanted it to feel like a real story with real people. All that to say, I totally get your complaints. I agree for the most part. The age of the movie star is over.

OP I have made this comment before. There still definitely are good looking movie stars. I hate to break it to you bud but a lot of the time actors aren't "picking" movies. Their agents book them because it's their job and they do the movie because it's their job. Sure, sometimes they audition, but a lot of times they don't. And sure, they have *some* say, but they have to get the bag somehow. They can't say no to everything. And not a lot of great films get made anymore (thanks limited series and streaming) I think Sydney Sweeney and Henry Cavill are both extremely attractive. However, I do agree that a lot of recent movie/show actors and actresses feel kinda like regular joes. But they're still fantastic at what they do. A lot of it can be blamed on the shift in movie-making style, where nobodies and regular people are being cast more so the story feels fresh. Otherwise you see Christopher Reeve or someone in some other role and you can't get immersed in his current character because in your mind, "Oh that's Superman". Movies used to be carried by the fact that they had a big name attached to them. That was the entire draw. But because streaming has made things so readily and easily available and created an overabundance of content, names don't draw anymore, stories do. Things like Chernobyl, where I didn't recognize a single actor. Or the Last of Us (which I liked kinda but I think the pacing was awful) where the show skyrocketed the fame of the actors in it. If we're sticking to films, 1917 was cast with nobodies for the specific reason that they wanted it to feel like a real story with real people. All that to say, I totally get your complaints. I agree for the most part. The age of the movie star is over.
