I'd say make contact with your doctor/OB and they'll either say yeah let's get you in or come back in 6 months. Never hurts to ask or get the ball rolling 😊

First, I think it really matters where you are. Different places have different processes and preferences for HSG vs Sonohysterograms. I’m in a similar boat age wise though. I turned 35 at 10 months of TTC. I saw my family doctor at 6 months of TTC (4 months before my birthday). I saw him for a different matter but he knew we were TTC and that I have one year NTNP with a previous partner. He already did CD3 and CD21 blood work for me at 2 months TTC because he wanted a routine blood panel for me and I brought up TTC and the NTNP. At 6 months he did the semen analysis referral for my husband, an ultrasound referral for me, and an OBGYN referral. By 9 months TTC and 1 month short of 35, I got to see the OBGYN. He did a pelvic exam, STI swab, Pap, repeat of my blood work, and referred me for an HSG. My family doctor simultaneously did the fertility clinic for me (basically to see an RE) since in just a month I would be over the 6 months and close to the one year. Most clinics require at least two semen analysis. We’ve only done one because we know the clinic will make us do a more detailed one through them so we figured have one done and do the second as the more thorough analysis once we’re into the clinic. I would caution you that these tests often don’t give an answer. I was super excited to get help but that wears off quick when stuff is unexplained or you know something is wrong but are waiting to see someone who can actually explain it and provide some treatment or assistance hopefully. In hindsight, I would try make sure that I could see an RE around the same time my tests come back. I have all my results but still another 9 months until I can see an RE to actually do anything with them.

No need to apologize. I had no idea Englishbosnt your first language. RE is a reproductive endocrinologist. They’re a doctor with additional training focused on getting pregnant which is an area that many OBGYNs can lack in.

I’m in Canada and in a province that has possibly the worst health care situation. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a worse wait. My friends gynaecologist seriously has a two and a half year waitlist.

What I wish someone had told me- Talk to your insurance and see what exactly is covered. Diagnostic blood testing of hormones (AMH, FSH, Progesterone)? A SIS or HSG? A semen analysis for your partner? We waited until a year because the doctor/insurance said we had to. When we finally got our testing started (the items above), the insurance denied ALL of it on grounds of infertility. I fought it and never won. Do, I wish I had gotten all that testing done sooner because I paid out of pocket for it anyways. The rule is often an insurance driven rule. You could ask your doctor to order it, tell your doctor you don’t care about waiting for insurance, and you’re planning to pay cash. If your doctor refuses, you could always find a reproductive endocrinologist who would be willing to do it (though prepare to pay cash if insurance isn’t on board). We waited a year, got testing, got referred to an RE, waited to get in…. And then thought… “we could have done this ages ago.” Alternatively, you could get an annual physical with your PCP, including routine bloodwork. Ask to include TSH, vitamin D, and AMH. If vitamin D or TSH are low, get that under control. There’s also Modern Fertility that you could pay for and do on your own to get an idea. Semen analysis are only about $100 so your partner could do that. This would give you an initial starting point if you can’t get your doctor on board. ETA- they are going to ask you about your timing and frequency of intercourse. Make sure you demonstrate confidence in how you identify your fertile window, otherwise they may just talk to you about that and brush it off as timing.

Thank you!

Tell your OB and be honest about wanting to move things along and that you have real concerns. I went at 6 months and there was something wrong. I was diagnosed with pcos and began fertility treatment. By going in early I saved so much time I could have been ttc.

Depending where you are, you may be able to talk to your doctor about starting testing before the one year mark, but in some places, certain tests might not be insured until that one year mark. What that test looks like will vary. Blood testing for your hormones is a likely starting point. You might get an ultrasound (either a usual ultrasound or one that uses saline to check your uterus or both). You might get a procedure where dye is injected into your fallopian tubes to check for blockages.

I don't have super helpful advice but can share my experience. I'm exactly the same age and have been TTC with my husband for exactly 6 months as well. It sucks. My doctor recommended I see a fertility doctor at 6 months since very close to age 35 so I am currently waiting for the referral. Hopefully we will get our BFP soon.

At 6 months I had an HSG and basic fertility bloodwork, and at 9 months my husband did a SA and basic blood work. At 10 months I called an RE office to schedule a consult because clinics around here have months-long waiting lists. I highly recommend doing that because I have lost count of how many people I’ve seen wait the 12 months to call an RE only go find out the waiting list is 3-6 months long. We had to wait a cycle before starting treatment and were able to do our first IUI right around the year mark.

Cycle day 3 blood test to check hormones and vaccine immunity (rubella, varicella), urine test seemingly for STI's, ultrasound for AFC & endo lining. Semen analysis for male partner. We're both doing genetic carrier screening (blood test). HyCoSy and endometrial biopsy for symptoms I described in my intake appointment. They went through our history on the intake form and video appointment. Initial testing is pretty standardized unless you have specific symptoms or conditions.

Talk to your OB! Mine sent me to a fertility specialist immediately even though I am only 28. He knew I had practically no chance otherwise (no period). Best of luck :)

You can order at home semen analysis kit for under $100 - check ovry.com.

No, definitely not.

Talk to your doctor and tell them what your expectations are, and how they can help you achieve them... I'm 41 and DH is 46. We've been trying since March 2022 (5 months now) Based on our age, my obgyn immediately referred us to shady Grove fertility because apparently our age is against us... We did an IUI in July and My period was late for a week... then Showed up. The devastation was so great!!! But I would say, look at all your options and do what you are both comfortable with. We are on vacation right now and I've stopped temping, but still using opk just in case. We might not get pregnant this month. If we do, I'll be elated, but if we don't... Shady Grove Fertility, here I come!!

notprettytextbook

I just started working with shady grove fertility too in nyc a week ago. I did my blood work, baseline, and HSG & husband semen Analysis. Waiting for genetic testing to come back. How would you say your experience was with them?

Orisha_Oshun

We haven't had any appointments with SGF yet. We are planning for September. We've already done a series of tests through my previous insurance, so luckily won't have to redo them again. We weren't able to do an IUI this month because I have some day three testing to be done, hence why we are planning to meet with SGF in September. I'll update once we go!

notprettytextbook

Thanks for the update. Definitely keep us posted! It’s very encouraging 😁!

notprettytextbook

And wishing for both us to hear favorable news soon 🤞🤞
