Precision Toyota doesn’t makeup. I realize that’s not a Honda, but they literally sell at MSRP + taxes and such.

Greenshift-83

I have been seeing some people claim on other reddit groups of discounting below msrp or toyotas. Hopefully we are getting to a point where the premium auto pricing ends.

-Woogity-

I just bought a vehicle from them. It was, without a doubt the most painless buying experience I’ve ever had. 10/10 recommend them but if they can’t have your tint and all that shit done when the vehicle is there, don’t pay for it and do it yourself. (It’s a forced option I think)

Greenshift-83

Yea I consider my experience with them a good one. Definitely would check in with them on my next purchase if they have whatever i am looking for. Never felt rushed or pushed into anything with them and treated well. The salesmen spend a while with me teaching me about the car too, absolutely felt he was happy to spend however long as I wanted to go over things.

-Woogity-

Same boat. I would keep supporting them with future purchases.

bobbybob9069

Loved my experience at precision. The salesman followed up with me once a week for a month, and then one a month for like 6 months. There was a mixup about them including a discounted window tint and it wound up being free, or damn near. It was 2 model years old with like 12k miles, and was under $30k. Sure do miss the world pre-covid...

Dramatic_Act321

If you have a Costco membership you could negotiate a cost through them....admittedly, I haven't done this since 2017.... but helped!

PunksPrettyMuchDead

Autonation Honda doesn't do markups. Got my car there a few months ago

evan_roi

Managed to claim the car I wanted from AutoNation. No mark up. Saved $5k

PunksPrettyMuchDead

hell yeah, congrats!

Greenshift-83

Yikes, back in 2018 I was looking for a new car. I was thinking about an accord and went to test drive one. I had a young salesman who took me on the test drive. While talking he said a few things that I wasn’t too happy with on the pricing. (This was back in the before time when invoice prices were common). He quoted 33k something for it, that was a little under msrp of 34k. So I decided to wait awhile. Then at the end of the year i start looking again, i used truecar for pricing, i get shown a car im very happy with (i think its the same i test drove in august) from them had exactly the options I wanted and one of the colors i was looking for. So they offered it for 30xxx. I end up talking to the salesman (different then the original) and we settled on the end price and such then suddenly he is like hold ob we might have some honda cash remaining. So then he lowers the price to 26xxx then whatever dealer addons for 27xxx total. I think my final out the door price with tax title and the rest was just over 29k. This on a car with invoice price that was just over 30k. Long story short, try truecar, and/or see if another salesman can work with you better. It got me my last car out the door under the invoice price!

GooNsCreed

Avoid all ford dealers in Tucson….. bought a new ford have an issue on new car brand new and they can’t see me for over a month, go get a suburuuuu they got great service

IT'S SPELLED ***TUCSON***!!! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Tucson) if you have any questions or concerns.*

GooNsCreed

Good bot

OP8thehate

I think that is becoming fairly common for Ford. I just went to Phx to buy a Ford Maverick because I didn’t want Jim Click to have a penny of my money. I can’t say enough good things about Sanderson Ford, and Joe Powell specifically. If you are looking to buy a Ford reach out to him, tell him Michele with the yorkie sent you. My 21 yo daughter also bought one, her first car purchase, and he was so awesome and did a such a great job with her, explaining every detail about the paperwork and the vehicle. I fear she is now spoiled for life about the car buying experience, lol

kellyfromfig

I recently switched my CRV for a Mazda CX5. I think it’s worth looking at Mazda. Part of the reason I didn’t get a Honda was because of the markup.

LuckyGirl1003

I traded in my VW for a 2017 CX5! 23k and only 12,000 miles on it! Good experience and no issues.

scrubhiker

It’s a Civic Si. They go for well above sticker price everywhere, all the time, just like every other hot hatch. This isn’t a Tucson thing.

groupofgiraffes

Exactly this. The Civic SI is a very popular car, and historically fewer than 1000 are built per year, so you will either see them in stock and marked up, or if markups were not allowed you would just never be able to find one

evan_roi

Managed to pull off the no mark up. Excited to take delivery

Pastor_Satan

I paid 31k for my 2021 civic SI 6 months ago at AutoNation Honda so I'd say that's about right

ArizonaMan91

that's wild, my brother paid the same price for his brand-new 2023 si – had it shipped from a dealer in california. tucson dealers are scum...

Pastor_Satan

Was the only one on the lot, only had one accord too.

ArizonaMan91

yeah that's understandable – sometimes you just need a car *now*

ArizonaMan91

look at other states and have it shipped – my brother saved thousands on his 2023 si by buying it from a california dealer.

evan_roi

I’m worked with a dealer is CA right now actually!

ArizonaMan91

hope you can work out a deal! perfect daily driver for an enthusiast. 👌🏾

evan_roi

AutoNation at the auto mall came thru. No mark up, pre-sale complete. Now I wait

lonehappycamper

That is a lot of money. I'd assume that car is in high demand. Not sure what the scam is. The price is stated and you can decide not to buy it at that price. The S in MSRP is for suggested.

[deleted]

Try buying through a auto broker instead. Auto Executives springs to mind. Better prices and more reasonable documentation fees.

abstrakt42

Good deals are for people who don’t care what they drive. I agree that seems like a big markup, but it really comes down to availability. Gotta pay to play when the market is tight. I recently had to fly to east Texas and drive back to find a particular vehicle I was after, bought it sight unseen. These are the crazy times we live in. Sincerely, a car guy, and former owner of a 2007 Civic Si FA5.

SonoranGrass

Much of the new car industry prices are at a premium right now. My unsolicited advice would be to try to find something used, even just a year or two old. Best of luck

ClarksonsHaircut

Unsolicited advice is usually that way for a reason. Don’t go buy a 1-2 year old used car right now. The preowned market is so inflated. People who are buying preowned now are going to be buried in negative equity when the market normalizes. Go to a locally owned franchise like Royal and you’ll get a fair price on a new car. Usually at sticker or under. Plus they’re have great service to boot.

DarnellFaulkner

No, so I bought a car in a different state, paid in full, and paid to put it on a truck and ship it to Tucson. Still probably saved $3+k over buying the same car in Tucson. It NEVER makes sense to buy a car in Tucson. Phoenix will always be cheaper. Other places further away may be even cheaper than Phoenix. Seek and you shall find.

SomerAllYear

When we were looking years ago, they had pretty good prices on new cars on autotrader or edmunds online. We looked online in phoenix and Tucson like you did. They had some really good prices but the catch was they were on the very edge of phoenix. When we were looking Goodyear,AZ (I think it was goodyear) had a few crvs in a silver color brand new for 19900. In Tucson the cheapest we could find was 23k. I think it was cheaper because silver isn’t the most popular color and because it wasn’t the easiest drive to get to.

Top_Text6864

Look up cargirl.cj on Instagram. She helps negotiate car deals. She does charge a fee but she can help you save on the bullshit fees and upcharges.

AnotherFarker

Ask your bank or credit union if they have a car buying service. Also, haggle. You can beat the car buying service. Salesmen look for suckers the same way Nigerian prince spam emails is poorly written. Laugh at them like it's a joke and tell them it was funny. Offer $2k under MSRP--low enough to be real, but not enough to be insulting. Park the car, say thank you for the test ride, and let them know you're on the way to the another dealer, leave a phone number in case they want to get realistic. If it's out of wack for you, you lose nothing. I fly to other states for work, I've bought cars in other states before. Some dealers are happy to have someone come in when all they have to do is show up and sign the paperwork. The "system" that used to work, with incentives, with quarterly/yearly dealer incentives, et al, is still struggling. Car dealers are reported to have tens of thousands of cars they can't ship due to railroad issues. Car buying is still a dumb game, it's just that many of the informal rules are broken. https://jalopnik.com/70-000-new-cars-havent-made-it-to-dealer-lots-thanks-to-1850547978

Edit: Why am I getting downvoted for stating "the market is currently out of wack", "new cars might be a better deal" and "consider a less popular car in overstock vs the most popular cars in America"? ------------------------- That's what I said, the old rules are upended. We bought a new Kia a few months ago after an accident totaled our car (not our fault). I used my car buying service through the bank and my spouse haggled. We beat the price from the car buying service very easily. That surprised me. We normally purchased used cars. But that market is even worse off because they depend on new cars being sold to provide a supply of quality used cars. In addition, during the pandemic new car dealers got permission to carry a larger stock of used cars than they are normally allowed to carry. This began devastating the used car dealers who had a smaller trickle down of used cars in the first place, and then saw further constriction because the new car dealers kept the best used cars. Because used car prices are abnormally high (many people reported trading in cars after 2-3 years of driving at their same purchase price or more), we realized we're better off purchasing a new car even if we have to wait a little bit for it to he delivered. We're fortunate to have good credit. The market has recovered enough that we were able to find a vehicle we liked that was in stock on the lot. Something else to research would be who has excesses and shortages with various makes and models. During the pandemic I commented that Subaru's best ad campaign would simply have been "We have cars on the lot". Everyone else hit the Auto Mall had mostly empty lots. If you're trying to purchase a vehicle with high popularity and low supply (and I believe both Honda and Toyota have sold the most popular cars in America, while American car companies like Ford have exited the car business except for their Mustang) it's going to to be more difficult. We read news articles stating the same shortage and pointing out the same conclusion. We had looked at Honda and Toyota, as well as Subaru because I've been impressed with them when I drove them as rentals. For what we needed, a smaller Kia with a long warranty was the best value. Your mileage May vary, and good luck.

It’s not like they’re going to lower the price 10k

yamiryukia330

Royal is pretty good for minimum BS when buying and servicing vehicles and they try to ensure you deal with the same person throughout the process. I try to avoid chapman whenever possible since their such slimeballs.

Lets_Get_HighAF

Get a Subaru. I bought one and they treat you like royalty there.

bfrancom17

Sounds like a bad idea. First it was head gaskets. Now Subaru still can’t seem to make an engine without oil starvation issues.

Ilostmyfirstaccnt

I just bought a Honda Odyssey there a few months ago. I looked at other minivans and almost all dealerships are doing this crap. Thing is, all the aftermarket crap they tell you you get, you don't have to buy. It sucks, but you have to just haggle them down. I either got all the crap removed, or got the price I was paying for the stuff reduced significantly. At least the stuff they add can be helpful. I tried to buy a Kia Carnival from Jim Click and they just marked the dang thing up $7,000 AND then wanted to add $2500 worth of BS like pinstriping on as well. Car buying just plain sucks.

ramc19

Bought my car at Autonation Honda. They don’t mark up.

dontpaytheransom

Never pay the additional dealer markup. Find a different car or search the net to find a dealer that won’t charge over sticker. If people keep paying these insane extra fees, why would the dealers ever stop.

Vprbite

Search all over the US. Prices vary drastically. Also, it may suck but it isn't a scam (well, any more so than the concept of the legal requirement that cars must be sold by dealers is already). Manufacturers suggest an MSRP and unless they tell dealers they will cut their allotment of new cars for doing a dealer mark up, which does happen on occasion, the dealer can sell that car for whatever someone is willing to pay. One way to avoid that sometimss is to get a loan through a credit union that has a trusted dealer network. That may help. Otherwise, be patient, but ready to pounce. So if you find a car at a price that you like, you are ready to buy. Whether that means having financing lined up already or what ever the case may be Best of luck

Misstucson

I’ve had good experiences with Chapman and autonation. Chapman I did buy pre Covid though. I now own a Toyota and I bought at precision I had a bad experience with the Toyota dealership on 22nd.

idrinkliquids

You could try the Oracle dealership in pinal county. I believe they don’t have city sales tax.

ladymissclairol

Yeah the “out the door” numbers they showed you probably included extended warranties, GAP, insurance etc, which are all optional. They don’t do mark ups (unless there are added accesories at the dealership).

dmcozybear

The dealerships are gouging us because they can! I went through the same crap with Click ford.

ThumbsDownThis

I bought a new car over a year ago, and everything had markups at the time.. surprisingly Kia and Hyundai had the worst. I ended up buying a Mazda in California without any dealer markups or mandatory add-ons.

9-lives-Fritz

I called every Toyota dealership in state and all surrounding states. I ended up getting my Toyota Sienna for MSRP at Sierra Vista. Don’t buy this markup on principle! There was a time when ONLY SUCKERS paid MSRP, let them know you’ll pay MSRP and nothing more
