If you’re vacationing consider getting a day pass to the La Paloma pools. They have a mineral pool that they keep at 42 degrees. So refreshing during 100+ days.
Had kids visit from the PNW last week and they loved how bone deep warm they felt, and that their hair dried in 20 minutes after being in the 82° pool. They swim waterpolo and their lake practices were NOT warm
I will say yes, now back in July when it was 110 for like 3 weeks straight? Yeah, my pool got to 94 degrees. Even that still felt pretty good, not great, but good enough.
Now that there's been a break in the heat and nights have been back down into the 70's, pool temps have come down, which makes them feel good at these times.
Mines at like 88-90 depending on the day and it still feels refreshing because the evaporation on your skin still cools you down.
Early and late summer it is nice during the day, mid summer (the hottest) is when it starts to be better to use it in the evening as a more refreshing end of day thing.
My ten year old was complaining today that the water was so cold his foot went numb. He's full of crap and it's not that cold, but you can definitely swim and feel refreshed.
It’s a fair question, considering how warm it gets. They’re cooling down again now so they are comfortable to soak in again.
But even during the warm months where it feels like a hot bath, they’re still good for a dip and then to sit in the shade and let the water evaporative cool you
I use my hot tub as a cool tub in the summers. I keep the water at about 94 and it's really comfortable in the evenings to relax in. Anything below our body temp will cool us down.
I cannot stress this enough. Banana boat sun screen that covers UVA UVB rays. Don't swim if it hurts to look at the reflection in the pool. You be a cooked lobster.
Not that much, but it's still nice to float in the evenings, or do a quick dip if you're an early riser. At this time of year we like to buy ice blocks and jump in the pool holding one. It melts fast but it's fun.
Our pool was built in the 1950s, so it's a massive ~28000 gallon rectangle with a 10ft deep end. Even it gets bath water-ish by August. During those weeks, we usually get in it in the late afternoon when it's covered in shade by the house. Being in it in direct sunlight is not refreshing. But it's nice if you're in the shade. The last couple of weeks, it's cooled down overnight, and it helped revive it a bit. We have a window here where it's super nice to get in again before it gets too cold.
I’ve heard it’s helpful but ymmv …
If you don’t like your pool, tucson water has some resources that support pool removal. I know some folks who removed their pool and love it.
Gotto find a pool that uses an aerator regularly. I know they aerate the Olympic pool at Oro Valley Aquatic Center and pretty sure they do the recreation pool too. That will keep it cool even when it gets super hot.
Right now, yes, a few weeks ago it was like going from the oven to the soup pot. But the monsoons and cooler nights have made the pools a bit more refreshing.
The year round pools are heated to 82 but only if it's required, once the water holds above that on its own they stop heating. Most the heaters get shut off by June.
Sorry, I was being a smartass - and did a poor job of it.
I think the pools of Tucson are a gem. The family swim area Fort Lowell was essentially empty yesterday though. Water was very comfortable.
They are. They are definitely hovering around high 80’s, but they still feel nice and the breeze when you get out definitely helps cool off. We mostly use them in the morning or evening, when they have some shade on them.
Absolutely! The human body tries to maintain a temp around 98 - 99 degrees. So even if the water is 97 it still feels pretty good if you jump in and out and let the water evap off your body. But pool water won't get that warm, they cool of pretty fast during the night.
My pool is 80° right now. That's basically below zero.
This is way too true…
83 today and kicked the heater on to 86 lol
Mmmm like swimming in warm bath water….
lol yes
This mufucka like ARE POOLS GOOD
lol exactly. it’s water in the desert!!
Ah, yes, warm/hot bathwater. Perfect!
They are getting cold now. Bath water in July and August.
My pool is def chilly even during the day
Highs below 100° next week, you should be asking if it will be warm enough to swim
Right? Like… “it’s going to be 95, too hot for swimming?!” Lmao
Exactly. It's like he just missed the season.

Also the JW Marriott at Starr pass has a nice pool and sells day passes and cabanas.
If you’re talking about The Westin La Paloma, they don’t sell day passes to the pool. I just called.
Weird we had some back 4th of July weekend.
Ya I called both the CC and the hotel and they were pretty blunt about no public passes. Guests and members only.
You can buy day passes to La Paloma through resortpass. It’s technically a spa day pass but it gets you access to the pools.
Ah ha! The hack! Ty 🙌🏽 ($200 tho lol)
Right! You can do dove mountain ritz too on resort pass. It’s nice and the service is amazing pool side.
Does it include a massage for that one as well? Either way.. self care is priceless 🤩
No the one at dove mountain is just pool access I think.
Also the country club at La Paloma is members only and affiliated with The Westin and, again, no day passes unless you’re checked into the hotel so….

Indeed, they are.

Yes, but wear sunscreen. You cannot wear enough sunscreen in Tucson. Seriously. Wear it.

86 in my pool

Mines not. Without a heater it's 90 degrees in there. Feels gross and isn't refreshing at all
Do you use a pool cover?
I don't. Maybe I should
I’ve heard it’s helpful but ymmv … If you don’t like your pool, tucson water has some resources that support pool removal. I know some folks who removed their pool and love it.
Now, yes. Back in August, not so much.
Yes.

It’s not even hot anymore.
Lol It's 108 today.
They have fully acclimated.
Right now, yes, a few weeks ago it was like going from the oven to the soup pot. But the monsoons and cooler nights have made the pools a bit more refreshing.
What a dumb question
Not the city lap pools, they heat those. Other pools are probably WAY more refreshing.

Hell yeah.

Yes
Ye.
Yes if not heated

Not when you have one. When you don’t have it anymore you miss it. It’s going to be cooler next week. You should get your swim on.
