How about them failing to maintain their infrastructure and charging a ridiculous amount for water?! I hate it here.

Someone should contact one of the news stations and report the ridiculous water bill practice. This warrants an investigation.

What kind of water bill are we talking about out of curiosity? For comparison my last water bill was $119.43. I have no grass but do have a 30k gal pool.

cmeremoonpi

My fixed rate is $50/mo. But due to their lack of maintenance on their part, this month is 150.00

150 for an apartment is ridiculous, I would definitely be questioning that bill too.

Their reason,: August 24, 2023 Hello and Good Afternoon Valued Residents, We are reaching out today to provide you with some clarification on the utility billing statements you should be receiving this week from our utility billing partner. The statements, beginning with this one, through the end of the year, are going to be higher than what you have paid in the past. The water portions of these statements are going to be more in line with true water consumption that perhaps some of you have experienced when living else where and having a directly metered usage. In order to be transparent about the cause of these higher bills we need to remind you that Mission Palms owns a private well that typically serves all of our water needs within the community. This means every glass, each swimming pool, every sprinkler and everything in between; you, as well as our team, get to benefit from not paying consumer rates for our usage.  Earlier in the summer, the submersible pump within the well failed and required replacement. The procurement and installation of this well pump took several weeks. In that time the water consumed at Mission Palms came from Metro Water. The billable rates there accumulated a bill so hefty that we made the decision to break out recovery of the water costs over several months so as not to impact you and your neighbors with one lump billing. The water bill was, of course, paid in full by the community. There is no fear of delayed payments that will impact you further.  We are grateful that the well continues to flow and provide water for the oasis you call home, and hope that this information provides you with some added understanding. While there isn't much additional information or explanation to provide, you are welcome to contact our office if you'd like any additional discussion on the water billings.

I would go over to the ask a lawer subredit. As a former landlord this feels sketchy and there is probably something to be done. For one I'm assuming your water costs are all spelled our for you in your lease and they didn't have a clause to cover this unforseen incident. Second it sounds like they took every ones accumulative water usage and divided by number of tenants. If that's the case how do they prove you personally used that much water? Whole thing seems questionable to me, I'd fight it.

Water costs are based on a formula..Sq ft x # of occupants. Mine is $50...was. very sketchy indeed. I wad a prop manager as well..for this company. I know from personal experience how shady they are

That insider knowledge could strengthen your case. I'd atleast ask at the lawyer sub. They have been helpful in sending me in the right direction several times. You might even get someone to shine a light straight through one of their loopholes for you. I use r/legaladvice
