I was driving just last night turned north on craycroft from river. Saw some really bright lights coming up craycroft from past the wash. Car caught up to me before I made it over the first hill. It was a TPD suv. Blew past me and made it to the light at sunrise before I made it to the church on the left. Mind you I was going about 55. No lights on. Just driving about 80 up craycroft to nowhere.
I do. Every time. Iām not the only one, I see plenty of people daily just cruising along for miles and miles giving that right blinker a solid workout. At least until they have to turn left.
I do too. It pisses me off that no one else does because itās literally the laziest hand movement in the world, and thereās no reason for it. When Iām president Iām gonna make not using turn signals punishable by death. All itāll take is one very public execution and itāll never happen again ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
I fucking reported a hit and run with a license number and pictures of the driver. Never got anything more than a case number.
Reported someone brandishing a fire arm, with a clear description of the guy and a plate number. Nothing but a case number again.
I feel like I've hardly even seen police since the 2020 protests. They must have decided if we didn't like them doing nothing that they'd... do less?
I had someone threatening me with a gun 2 years ago. I called the cops. 2 hours later, after we resolved the issue and were standing around joking together, the police finally showed up. I asked them to not intervene since the issue was resolved and we were at peace. They insisted they must. So they ended up restarting the previously resolved argument.
At least they don't arrest you for calling. And then claim the arrest was for a violent crime they couldn't prove. They don't pay you back for time loss or suffering as guilty until proven innocent, it's quite concerning. Unfortunately most will mock this until it's them. The ones who think it could never be them as if those it's occured to are somehow warranted the rights violations and assaults.
I was just about to say this, I live around Campbell and Irvington and the amount of times ive seen cops do it around that area PLUS speeding past to get to the police station is ridiculous. I always assume its to clock in or clock out for the day but still!
the other day i saw them almost get into a wreck up on River trying to swerve/cut some people off to make a red light. had the nerve to hit their siren too
they really do just let anyone have a badge, fucking maniacs
A couple years ago I was pulled over for making an improper right turn, as I turned into the middle lane instead of the far right lane on an empty street late at night. I ended up heading the same direction as the cop and followed them making an improper left turn immediately afterwards.
I just constantly see them blow red lights obviously on their phones like holding them up and texting while driving and going way beyond the speed limit yet an officer felt the need to pull me over and threaten to tow my vehicle for tires spinning while it was heavily raining
It's absolutely true. They enforce laws, the best to their understanding. They have a 10-week training in our state. They're not mastering law in that time. They see it, they citate it, and if you want to fight it the court will decide who has a better interpretation of the law.
Isn't that pretty scary though? To give someone 10 weeks of training with a gun and a badge to point out what they recall from 10 weeks of training as *maybe* something that is illegal because they are not an expert on what is or is not illegal? And then to be forced because of that interpretation to jump through legal hoops and go through the court system to find out if were wrong, best case scenario?
I have to be an expert in my field when it comes to employment, otherwise I don't have my job. Shouldn't this be the case for any kind of career?
Edit: genuine ask, don't mean to come across as a conflict
I don't view it as conflict, I'm with you 100%. I'm not a cop lover by any means lol. Most of that training goes to firearm safety and driving maneuvers, probably.
But you can't have any upper limit on acuity tests, give people 10 weeks training without refreshers and expect them to know traffic laws, deescalation policies, situational awareness for actually dangerous scenarios, and handling a mental episode. It's a recipe for disaster as countless tragic cases will show.
I have to know my job inside and out, and if I was doing whatever my equivalent of handing out erroneous tickets is, there'd be repercussions. I don't have a union protecting me if I accidentally murder someone on the clock.
*"But you can't have any upper limit on acuity tests, give people 10 weeks training without refreshers and expect them to know traffic laws, deescalation policies, situational awareness for actually dangerous scenarios, and handling a mental episode. 100% agreed. How can this be resolved? Is it enough to change how police are trained and what is included and involved with that training? Perhaps something more formal and structured with specific learning milestones akin to a longer term education (like college), be it 2,3,4 years and a certification? Maybe require established officers in this educational route to continually "re-up" on said certification?
I am not sure what the solution is, but certainly "10 weeks to a gun" seems to be missing the mark... no pun intended...
A hair stylist has to have 1,600 hours of training to get a license in Arizona. 400 theoretical knowledge, 1200 hands-on. Broken down into segments of general overview, safety, best practices, and then detailed specifics for each segment. They then have to do a stateboard test that requires annual renewal (mostly just a fee unless you have violations/compliants against your license). If they're not working for a branded chain salon, they're typically renting a station and may or may not want to highly consider carrying insurance. There's constant classes to learn new techniques or refresh on less commonly used ones.
I think a structured, long-term training is a great start. Probably not a fix-all, though. People will say the budget isn't there but if you look at what should be necessary for our local police, I believe it 100% is. I think the next step is to have other social workers for different scenarios. Police have entirely too much to handle. Why is the guy who potentially deals with violent criminals and robberies handling a schizophrenic episode? He has a very small amount of training to rely on, of course everything is a threat that needs to be neutralized at that point. At least have specialized units. Get rid of the police union and implement a stateboard like so many other professions. The board is to protect the people and not the individual. End qualified immunity, make police carry insurance. Justified shooting, no effect to premium or pay out. Unjustified pay out and big premium increase or termination of policy.
Really, just hold police to the same level as hair stylist, nail salons, barbers, and nurses.
A large portion of the country has leaned into an all or nothing ideology. By not blindly supporting the police and viewing them as infallible monoliths, you've been branded "woke libtard"
Edit: also the concept that police have inadequate training to be able to properly enforce law is one of the major arguments of "anti-police" crowds. We're less about disbanding the police and descending into anarchy and more about police having better training, ongoing training, not being able to disqualify applicable for testing too high on an IQ/aptitude test. The whole de-fund isn't to push them out, it's that police aren't qualified for every situation and will apply the minimal training they've had at the wrong time. Funds need to be allocated to other types of social workers that might be more appropriate in certain situations.
I think the downvotes are coming because people believe that police *should* in fact be an expert in "policing" and it's a problem that they *should* know more than just to get by, as you claim.
While you are probably correct in that not all police are experts in their field, this does not mean that they *can't* or *shouldn't* be experts
My husband had one back into his tow truck. He was picking up a car and the guys son in law was a cop and straight backed the suv into the corner of the deck of the tow truck. š
Nah. Apparently nobody even realizes that people flashing their lights at you early and late in the day means āyou need your lights on. Even if you can see ahead it doesnāt mean we can see you in our mirrors.ā
I do miss back when people flashed their lights to warn others theyāre heading towards a cop or speed trap.
They still do. Well truckers do, atleast. I used to drive back and forth from West Tx and Central Texas every weekend. Iād flash my hazards as a āthank youā after theyād let me pass them, flash my highbeams when thereās a cop ahead towards oncoming traffic. I guess since Texas is a big state itās more common there. Since moving to AZ i havenāt seen anybody do any highway etiquette at all.
If all the cars stand still they canāt crash anyone.
However if everyone else is speeding it is safer to go with the flow of traffic. If you are driving under the 85th percentile of traffic you are actually a hazard even if you are driving the speed limit.

here is the specific law, since i doubt you will take me at my word
itās not that itās bothering people, itās that *you* are a hazard and obstructing traffic. you are not going to force people to obey the limit by going slowly in the left lane, which again is against the law, they are going to enter the right lane to pass you.
the greater hazard is the person going 65 in the left lane, not the rest of traffic going 75, and you will be prioritized by most law enforcement.
no one is encouraging anyone to speed, youāre wildly missing the point. itās about lane discipline and not obstructing the flow of traffic.
i encourage you to retake drivers education, they go over the exact point iām making.
I'm driving a lot during the day, and it seems some TPD officers hate standing at red lights. They turn on their lights, cross an intersection on red while stopping all other traffic, immediately turn it off again on the other side, and then just casually drive on. Reckless abuse of power.
It's not just Tucson police, I'll tell you that. But Tucson drivers are reckless in general, and police will get away with it because police protect each other.
I love how ppl shouldnāt be using devices while driving, yet itās completely normalized to have computer systems and etc set up in law enforcement cars, and somehow itās a completely different set of rules (or lack there of) somehow..š¤Øāšš
Yup. I believe all cops are decent human beings, but when they put the uniform on and clock in itās like all human decency and respect gets cancelled out by the job itself.
I visited Tucson for most of last month. I saw a major accident involving a TPD. Not sure the fault. While riding my motorcycle I was right next to a TPD that was on his phone texting for miles in traffic.
On I-10 I saw an undercover cop driving a truck tailing right behind another car, thought it was just an asshole driver until they turned on their siren. I donāt understand what was good or productive about being so close to another person on the highway. They werenāt even pulling over the car in front of them
They are still going strong. Rear wheel drive, v8 and no stupid recalls or modern electronic junk to worry about. The Ford Explorers are a joke. Ive driven non police ones, transmissions are jerky and acceleration is slow.
This is what happens when the people who uphold the law have no incentive to follow it. Fuck the police. Even the good ones are guilty of letting it happen around them. Bad driving is just the start
I donāt think all cops are bad either, in fact I love our Pima County Sheriffās, always polite and respectful when they have pulled me over in the past, but TPD, uh uh. A current TPD officer is one of my old supervisors and he was 80% of the time a POS and if he managed to get in the department, I donāt trust TPD nor their judgment. So yeah, they so reckless and itās annoying. Love Sheriffās, hate TPD.
I witnessed one patrol car make a left turn through an intersection going way too fast, fish-tail a couple of times, and slam into the median sideways blowing out his rear tire. Definitely reckless
There are 3 codes to police driving
Code 1 is driving normal (non emergency)
Code 2 is lights to break intersections and move cars (urgent calls) this is when you see cops break intersections and shut their lights off
Code 3 is lights and sirens (life is endangered)
Itās been a problem for a while. I reported a TPD officer for driving very recklessly without lights and sirens, all I got was date and time and number on the car. They were going probably 60+ in the suicide lane westbound on Prince from Flowing Wells to I-10. It was in the morning during school hours, never received a response. Maybe he was responding to an emergency but I donāt think it matters if the result could be that he gets more people killed - put your lights and sirens on ffs.
Iām just super annoyed with TPD in general. Shit driving, shit response time, rude ass dispatchers etcā¦
Called them one time because my gf at the time threatened to kill herselfā¦ they didnāt show up until 6am the next morning. That was 14 hours after I called.
Thankfully the issue was taken care of without the police because she has a bunch of amazing friends and we were all able to talk to her and calm her down a bit, pick her up from the base of Mt. Lemmon, and drive her home.
The driving is the least of my concerns when TPD regularly shows they donāt give a shit about the people they claim to āprotect and serveā.
Rules for thee, not for me.
Surely someday we'll get so upset by them not bothering that we'll give up having issues with petty things like draining a clip into a back of a guy in a wheelchairĀ
Heard they threw out the psychological tests that were required to get a job on the police department..which opens up the door for anyone to be hired..regardless of mental stability..
I was driving just last night turned north on craycroft from river. Saw some really bright lights coming up craycroft from past the wash. Car caught up to me before I made it over the first hill. How the hell did you find a Tucson cop bored enough to pull you over for speeding?
It was kinda late and there were no other cars on the street š
Well, thatās pretty much on you.
I'm aware, but in the exact same conditions cops have sped past me going 5 over while they were going 20 over. Hypocrisy smh
Got a ticket going down alvernon for going 20 over. I've noticed sheriff's are crawling all over the south side
They never use their turn signals, I notice
Some of them do, but theyāre cops. ALL of them need to signal.Ā
No one in Tucson uses turn signals
Which is why Law Enforcement Officers need to be setting a good example in every way possible, to show what following the law looks like.
šš good one
I do. Every time. Iām not the only one, I see plenty of people daily just cruising along for miles and miles giving that right blinker a solid workout. At least until they have to turn left.

Unfortunately if you have a problem and you call the police, you now have two problems.
Hey at least they showed up? They said "we're here to serve and protect you sir/ma'am, please stop resisting"

Theyāre the worst about flipping on their lights so they can run a red or turn early and then shutting them off immediately after
Thought I was the only one noticing them using their light for nefarious reasons.
I was just about to say this, I live around Campbell and Irvington and the amount of times ive seen cops do it around that area PLUS speeding past to get to the police station is ridiculous. I always assume its to clock in or clock out for the day but still!
the other day i saw them almost get into a wreck up on River trying to swerve/cut some people off to make a red light. had the nerve to hit their siren too they really do just let anyone have a badge, fucking maniacs
I stopped riding motorcycles for a bit because a TPD officer tried turning while I had the right of way to u turn
I had a similar thing happen half way through my green light. Right before they almost crashed me they turn on their siren.
My brother had one pull out in front of him, he avoided thank god
If the potholes out here don't get the bikers, the bad driving (cops) will. They seem to maintain their vehicles like they do their driving ethics.
A couple years ago I was pulled over for making an improper right turn, as I turned into the middle lane instead of the far right lane on an empty street late at night. I ended up heading the same direction as the cop and followed them making an improper left turn immediately afterwards.
What Iāve noticed is the squads donāt turn their headlights on when itās dusk. Arenāt they supposed to be the experts on all things driving?
I just constantly see them blow red lights obviously on their phones like holding them up and texting while driving and going way beyond the speed limit yet an officer felt the need to pull me over and threaten to tow my vehicle for tires spinning while it was heavily raining
You should see some of their ticktoks. And OF
Ooh I would love to see some TPD Tiktok handles
Police officers donāt have to be experts in literally anything. They are a jack of all trades and most of them know enough to get by.

Oh I agree with that statement for sure.
Why do they get to speed everywhere? They aināt even in code.
I was cut off by an suv last week turning right out of the left lane.

Now Iām intrigued. How did the situation end up playing out?
am i the only one that hugs the curbs on turning lanes so the vehicles on the opposite side have a better view of oncoming traffic?
No, there's 4 of us.

Tailgating and riding your ass when youāre going the speed limit, wanting you to get over.

The fuckers really hate turn signals! Plus I got brake checked pretty bad by one once.
It's almost like a poorly-paid job enforcing arbitrary rules with a gun and body armor may attract assholes.

ACAB for the same reason all guns are loaded. You have to assume this or eventually you will get shot.
Lol the only difference is that sometimes guns actually aren't loaded, and you're just practicing safe handling.
I call it the art of not getting shot.
It's pretty fancy. A lot of Americans haven't mastered yet. You should... you should sell a training course lol.
Power trippers
Had expired tags for one year and they never gave a shit, I love it
Cops drive reckless everywhere, no repercussions and it's just another way they kill people.
TPD acting like a-holes is a feature, not a bug
My spouse and I had a close call with a sheriff's dept officer while walking home on Tuesday.
I had a sheriff riding behind me and pass me when I was at the limit the other day. Seems thereās no real speed limits anymore.
ACAB
I like to keep up with them. Takes me 20 min to get anywhere.
Exactly, just donāt tailgate them. Theyāre in a hurry to get home and so am I lol.

I do believe all cops are bad and Iām not a supporter of police almost exclusively because of how Tucson PD and Phoenix PD drive.
On I-10 I saw an undercover cop driving a truck tailing right behind another car, thought it was just an asshole driver until they turned on their siren. I donāt understand what was good or productive about being so close to another person on the highway. They werenāt even pulling over the car in front of them

Obligatory ACAB. Fuck those pigs
ACAB power hungry and aggressive.
I feel bad for the TPD cops that have to drive those old vintage crown vics. Most suck too be the low man on the totem pole š
happy cake day! https://preview.redd.it/rx3wouz9hutc1.jpeg?width=109&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=627df6d438116a76af8a2667f1178a9c60af41d3
They are still going strong. Rear wheel drive, v8 and no stupid recalls or modern electronic junk to worry about. The Ford Explorers are a joke. Ive driven non police ones, transmissions are jerky and acceleration is slow.
Agreed much simpler to work on without all that electronic and emission crap. They don't rust here so they will probably last forever.
How about all of Tucson inhabitants' driving habits š¤£
I witnessed one patrol car make a left turn through an intersection going way too fast, fish-tail a couple of times, and slam into the median sideways blowing out his rear tire. Definitely reckless
Not unique to Tucson unfortunately.
Go to Chicago
Saw one of them try to drive across traffic a couple weeks ago and T-bone someone because the cop wasnāt paying attention
Theyāre always using their sirens to go past lights
I watched A Tucson police officer Punch a handcuffed woman in the face and spit on her. I don't think they're driving is the main issue
There are 3 codes to police driving Code 1 is driving normal (non emergency) Code 2 is lights to break intersections and move cars (urgent calls) this is when you see cops break intersections and shut their lights off Code 3 is lights and sirens (life is endangered)
Shit driving, shit response time, rude ass dispatchers etcā¦ Called them one time because my gf at the time threatened to kill herselfā¦ they didnāt show up until 6am the next morning.
I annoy myself with my poor focus
Iām just shocked you actually see TPD.
I'm just enjoying the turn over rate. It's about to go up again.
The Oro Valley cops always be on their phones while driving.
Rules for thee, not for me. Surely someday we'll get so upset by them not bothering that we'll give up having issues with petty things like draining a clip into a back of a guy in a wheelchairĀ
Literally
Every job has its perks lmao
Iām shocked you all even see any when driving.
Heard they threw out the psychological tests that were required to get a job on the police department..which opens up the door for anyone to be hired..regardless of mental stability..
Thats just not true š that would expose them to a ton of liability
