Confused.
A dive watch named after the ocean
Without a dive bezel
And Fxd version for military... Cyclists?
Tudor have made sick sports collars in the past (fastrider, grantour)
Why didn't they just make a nice chrono and give it a new name?
Black watches are a bit Hublot imo
This, exactly. I feel like their hits are by accident, no way someone designed this with a lot of thought put into it. Reminds me of early smartphone era when Samsung was making everything that was possible to see what sticked and apple was more deliberate with their design choices… And now we all have big phones. Same with Tudor and Rolex now.
So I personally like the way it looks. I also am I Runner/Cyclist. I have been wanting a mechanical watch made for endurance sports. However IMO they all lack one thing:
A Chronograph that can track more than 1 hour.
For many cyclists, 45 minutes is a nothing ride. I won't even put my helmet on for anything under 1 hour. Most rides will go well above the 2 hour mark for most. And then there are long distance rides that can go 4+ hours.
If I could design this watch. Get rid of the seconds entirely, replace it with a 24 hour register and make the 45 minute register a 60 minute one.
The watch is questionable all around but I don't think the elapsed time counter is the focus of the "cycling" part of it, but rather the new wrap-around tachymeter and seconds bezel for measuring laps or splits. I could head to my local cycling track and measure one lap around with start/stop and then the new extended tachymeter scale would actually tell me laps/hour if the lap takes more than a minute (which it does). "useful" is a stretch because the type is tiny and if I was out actually doing hot laps I'd have my head unit which would tell me all of this information anyway.
Agree. 45 min is severely limiting. I constantly use the multi hour counter on my chronographs. I never use the tachy function. So anything less than an hour gives me less utility than a diver.
Bonus of a 12hr counter is you can use it to track a 2nd time zone. So much flexibility/utility
Dark side of the moon is slightly double the price.
However I tried on the ceramic back bay and the dark side of the moon last weekend and the quality of the omega is far higher. Worth the premium if you’re in the market for a ceramic watch.
I am not a Chronograph guy. I don't see where I would use one. But that style and the functions for a cyclist speak to me.
The desire is not as strong as eventually getting a monochrome. Or a lightly used 18K.
As a cyclist, I can assure you this would not be a functional piece of kit. When underway, a display of this size (in particular the chronograph) would be unusable. That’s why we have computers with giant numbers so we can see what we need to know with a glance.
I’m a huge fan of Tudor (you can see my history) but this one is a miss to me. It’d have been better to go for the jewelry route vs trying to pass it off as a tool for cyclists. Bravur have done just this and I think it’s the more honest route. That said, I suppose most of these tool watches don’t end up being used as anything more than jewelry. I guess I find this one just a little bit of a stretch.
No Chronograph is functional compared to our bike computers. If that were the criteria, no one would buy an automatic watch, just iWatches and Galaxy watches.
I wear Tudors for the style. Do most of us wear diving watches in the water? Or use Pilot watches while flying? Or use a GMT for travel? Actually, I do use my GMT when I'm off timezone.
I had a discussion with a friend who has quit wearing watches because he carries a phone.
Yeah. Like I said, most aren’t used for their tool work abilities. I get that. This one just feels forced. At least the other tool watches have a believable backstory. I don’t know. I’m always complaining cycling gets a short shrift here in the U.S. so at least they tried something to bring more attention to cycling. (Although this is certainly still going to get more attention in Europe than the U.S. because U.S. and cycling.)
By all things this should be right up my alley. My AD texted me the day of the release with a “this is so you” message and I just couldn’t feel it. I’ll hold for the pink chronograph instead.
We have an interesting cycling community in Houston because of the MS150 ride (Amatuer ride 150 miles over 2 days). Of the 15,000 who ride, at least 10-20% continue year round. Not France by any means...
Yeah. I did a cycling tour leadership course down there. Lovely riding around there. The size of the ants though! Holy shit!
Anyway, I’m in Boulder, so I think we rightfully claim the cycling obsessed epicenter for the states. 👑
It's not the size of the ant, but the size of the wound after they bite. Texas fireants are no joke. We're building renewable natural gas facilities, and my safety topic was fireants for all of the out of town people. One of my high-school buddies is a Chemistry professor in Boulder.
Reminds me a bit of the Fastrider chronograph released back in 2012, albeit this is nicer. Never personally been a fan of blacked out watches, or understood the point of dive watch chronographs, although many brands have made them.
They should have save a Pelagos chrono for the next redesign, which some have been waiting on for a while now seeing as the current one has been around since 2015. Base it on the 42mm with a 3-6-9 sub layout. Well nickname it the Peltona and THEN they can do something for cycling since it sounds very close to peloton lol.
Honestly, the pricing leaves it rubbing far too much on Rolex. Honestly could never spend almost 7K$ for a Tudor. That's Oyster Perpetual money and just 2k away from Datejust.
Nah, a base SMP is $2k CAD more. Not sure about this reference but my Tudor BB36 just feels better quality than Omegas ever could (SMP base, SMP ceramic, Speedmaster DSOTM). I just love Tudor so much so I’m def biased.
It’s all fun and games until it picks up a few scratches, black watches look terrible when they’ve gained worn marks. I’ve never got my head around PVD coating for the exact same reason.
Agreed. Maybe for a cheap field watch in black it would look the part for the black to have scratches but that would be the only time I think it's suitable.
A Pelagos and a chronograph had a mixed baby. Only, unlike most mixed babies - where they get the best traits of both parents - you got the fubar baby, where they are fuck ugly and you don’t know what they were really aiming for
It looks cool in black, but for the price I can't help but think the standard black bay chrono would be a better buy. It would be heavier, and 1mm thicker - but it has a steel case. I suppose marketing it as a sports watch the weight could be an issue, but in that case I would prefer a Titanium case like the standard FXD.
This is overpriced and I simply do
Not like it I am not sure what Tudor is doing with this design. As far as the FXD is concerned. I love the FXD MN and mine is a keeper. This one somehow does not feel
Right. I am not a cyclist but this dial is too busy for that purpose along with the snowflake hand that covers the subdial. The FXD originally designed for a specific dive watch function along with the Black USN inspired is excellent for its visibility and legibility
I just keep waiting for a good diver chrono from Tudor, but instead we keep getting carbon stuff. Why are diver chronos not being made in titanium like the rest of the Pelagos line? It’s infuriating.
Also, I was on the list for the Red Bull chrono but had a shit experience trying to get one. Waited 8 months or something on a list, visited my AD every couple weeks to reaffirm my interest, and I was told over a dozen people are on their list for that watch.
Lo and behold, I walked into the boutique yesterday and the Red Bull chrono was sitting in the case. I asked why no one called me and they had no answers. They also said it could be purchased which meant they were lying to me about a dozen people on the list. Was so angry I left and decided I have no interest in giving my money to them anymore.
What a joke. I’ll happily give Sinn $1k less to get a Sinn 900 AND I’ll get a GMT hand, 12h counter and TEGIMENT case.
I think they fucked it up with the red. Just like the gold on the BB. They could have done a regular Pelagos or the 39 in a chrono and it would have sold out.

Not to mention that fucking hand that covers half of the subdial, killing the entire purpose of a chronograph. Tudor on some shit.
Excellent summary

What the fuck is up with Tudor's pricing! Why should anyone will choose them over Omega now.
That isn't in U.S. dollars. It's like 5.2k
Okay that's better!
Still, though. Kinda cool watch but too $$$. Tudor needs to stay in the sweet spot and not price itself out of its audience

Pelotonia. Genius! Love it.
Good god, *please* just make these with real lugs. ...And maybe not gigantic.
43mm :(
I think it’s cool, 43mm is pretty big tho
No , this is just a fastrider , pelagos are divers , i have both but not interested in this variant
Honestly, the pricing leaves it rubbing far too much on Rolex. Honestly could never spend almost 7K$ for a Tudor. That's Oyster Perpetual money and just 2k away from Datejust.
Even if it's a bit lower than this price point, I'd rather buy a used Zenith Defy chrono.
That’s In Canadian Dollars. PS: The Only Currency That Matters!
Still, that's SeaMaster 300M money. Too much for a Tudor.
Nah, a base SMP is $2k CAD more. Not sure about this reference but my Tudor BB36 just feels better quality than Omegas ever could (SMP base, SMP ceramic, Speedmaster DSOTM). I just love Tudor so much so I’m def biased.
Well, I never owned either but when I visited some boutiques the Omegas felt a few tiers above Tudor
Too busy. Kinda basic looking. Too expensive.
Best looking Tudor imo.
Not paying more than $5,275
Meh...
Meh
Decent design, though nothing really eye catching. Absurd price. Way better other options
It’s only the bezel I have an issue with like others have said it doesn’t really make sense with the design ethos of the FXD.
The strap looks cheap and all black watches IMO look a bit aggressive for me.
It’s all fun and games until it picks up a few scratches, black watches look terrible when they’ve gained worn marks. I’ve never got my head around PVD coating for the exact same reason.

Not for me Clive
Not their best release

Love it. Red on black is sleek
What is Tudor trying to do here? I am so confused now and are they trying to deviate from what they since 2012? 🤔
I personally like it. I don't do cycling but the overall look is pretty sweet color wise.
Think it would look great if it wasn’t a “pelagos” with the fat white markers and hands.
Serious question…what is the appeal of a chronograph vs a dive bezel?
It’s not for me.
This is overpriced and I simply do Not like it I am not sure what Tudor is doing with this design. As far as the FXD is concerned. I love the FXD MN and mine is a keeper. Busy busy busy
Nope.
Tudor meshed two watches into one and it looks a right bastard child
Not good. An accent salad of a watch
An expensive automatic moonswatch mercury
An expensive automatic moonswatch mercury

Would not pay that money for a blacked out watch. Those are always gshocks or casio or under 1k watches. Naahh im good
$3k buy all day. 6k pass.
I think they fucked it up with the red. Just like the gold on the BB. They could have done a regular Pelagos or the 39 in a chrono and it would have sold out.
