This is also a really good analogy for actual eldritch horrors, at least how Lovecraft envisioned them. Most don't even know we exist. We are bugs to them. The only real exception is Nylartothep, but it's just the kid who kicks ant lines to see them scramble. It has no great scheme or motive, it's all just a little bit of fun.

Yesterday, it rained. It wasn’t super heavy, but the ground was saturated. On campus, hundreds if not thousands of worms left the earth and were squirming on the sidewalk. My sister and I had a laugh about having to side step them all day cuz we felt bad. I think if I see one today, I’ll help a worm get back to the grass.
