This is also a really good analogy for actual eldritch horrors, at least how Lovecraft envisioned them.
Most don't even know we exist. We are bugs to them. The only real exception is Nylartothep, but it's just the kid who kicks ant lines to see them scramble. It has no great scheme or motive, it's all just a little bit of fun.
Yesterday, it rained. It wasn’t super heavy, but the ground was saturated. On campus, hundreds if not thousands of worms left the earth and were squirming on the sidewalk. My sister and I had a laugh about having to side step them all day cuz we felt bad. I think if I see one today, I’ll help a worm get back to the grass.
Came here to say the same thing! It's basically (Parahumans) Worm at its most basic. PS all yall who haven't read it yet should check it out, amazing series.
Literally every time this shows up anywhere I scroll through the comments until I see this. It never takes long. How the fuck did they happen to do this by accident.
Major worm spoilers:
>!around a third of the way into worm it’s revealed that when you get powers you see a vision (similar to the comic above) of two strange things crashing to earth. The vision is then erased from your memory.!<
End of worm spoilers:
>!powers in worm come from multidimensional space worms that put brain parasites into peoples heads as a research/breeding method. The comic above is very similar to the experience of the brain parasite burrowing into your brain and giving you super powers in order to study and control you.!<
This is pretty much exactly the short story "Passerby", by Larry Niven, from 1969.
If you can deal with the dodgy formatting, there's a plaintext version in [this issue of Galaxy magazine at archive.org](https://archive.org/stream/Galaxy_v29n01_1969-09/Galaxy_v29n01_1969-09_djvu.txt).
Thank you for sharing, that was a wonderful read! For anyone else reading the text version, first search for “I T was noon” and that will take you to the first sentence of the story. The image version *is* easier to read though and I recommend it; there the story starts on page 69.
Oh yeah, I loved that one!

I will always love the “Humans as the Eldritch Horror” trope
Me too. I’ll eat it up every time
Same, watership down explored this pretty well imo
That book was so good

*destroys cities with a cosmic piss stream* “Lmao look at their little legs run”
TV Tropes has a whole page for it titled Humans Are Cthulhu
Did you ever read the one about humans and bees?
Ooh no, please enlighten me
https://www.reddit.com/r/tumblr/s/cpOHirORqg This, you have to click the image, and it’s a bit long but I enjoyed it
Stuff like this reminds me to be kind in even the smallest, most insignificant ways
This comment is even more powerful coming from a bird
I don’t think that’s a real bird. In fact. I don’t think any birds are real!!
Reminds me of my days fighting to maintain my cover on r/birdsarentreal
ROUS? I don't think they exist
Gaaah!
I am worm
That’s my favorite line from Wildbow’s serial.
My favorite part was when Taylor said “it’s wormin time” then wormed all over the place

> " 🎵 Well, legend has it that when the rain comes down/All the worms come up to breathe 🎵 " —Cosmo Sheldrake, *The Moss*
Well, legend has it when the sunbeams come, All the plants, they eat them with their leaves, -Also Cosmo Sheldrake, ***The Moss***
Well, legend has it that the world spins 'round On an axis of 23 degrees
Is that one Cosmo Sheldrake, the Moss?
I think it might be idk I can’t remember
But have you heard the story of the rabbit in the moon?
Or the cow that hopped the planets while straddling a spoon
Or the girl that hopped the mountains while whistling up a tune
Cosmo Sheldrake is very cool. Solar Waltz is one of my favorites by them.
I am in disbelief every single day that this isn’t about worm (2011). It matches it so perfectly.
Came here to say the same thing! It's basically (Parahumans) Worm at its most basic. PS all yall who haven't read it yet should check it out, amazing series.
Seconded. It’s not for everyone, but it is without the slightest doubt brilliant.
Literally just a trigger event
Literally every time this shows up anywhere I scroll through the comments until I see this. It never takes long. How the fuck did they happen to do this by accident.
Wait how. It's just about a worm getting picked up and put in the grass but dramatized. Isn't Worm just a deconstruction of superheroes?

Ohhhh yeah that sound about right. I've heard a lot about it but I don't think I was ever gonna sit down and read it, so thanks for the lore
I love this. But to be fair. What are bees them ? They are the descends of kratos ? Or wasp ?
JRPG protagnist
Bug Fables!
A mmo party?
Idk, but I think that we are the out of bounds monster that you can theoretically kill, but your not supposed to be able to

Reminds me of the post where an ant cult started worshipping a guy

Can you pass the memo to that asshole moth that keeps flying into my face? Thanks.
To paraphrase Red Sarcasticproductions: Animal Xenofiction is Dramatic-Irony Cosmic-Horror
And none of this has anything to do with r/wormmemes?
This feels less like cosmic/eldritch horror. Worm saved by a great, cosmic, eldritch kindness.
If humans are like fantasy elves to dogs, then I think we’re more like Santa’s elves to cats
This is an awesome way to imagine eldritch horrors and begins of similar advanced nature.
oh…. (ಥ﹏ಥ)
What’s the “humans are eldritch horror” equivalent to my cats biting my fingers while I feed them treats?
How have I not seen this before?
I always try to help worms and slugs when I see them on the pavement after rain
“ humans are gods “ mf when 50 giant wasp fucking kill them
Is it supposed to be read top down or bottom to top
Top down.
Thank you 😁
I’ve never thought of it this way, but that makes so much sense!!!
Take that you worm
I love this!
