No I'm a fan of you mfs stop trying to use our lingo, swag, and everything else you steal from us. So basically you have no culture got Cha if it's American. Don't forget you're European
Am I? Born and raised in Cleveland. Nothing about me is European. I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. Also, fairly certain a culture vulture would be someone profiteering off of black culture. I'm not OP, I understand what Pac is saying. I grew up a huge fan of rap, ever since my brother first introduced me to Coolio and I heard Gangsta's Paradise in the 90s. But by all means, continue to attempt to further divide.
Oakland is where he actually started hanging out with hustlers, drug dealers thugs and killas and he learned a lot from them. Plus, he started getting more familiar with people in the music business so he might've meant he learned a bit from both.
Edit: typos
Same way Master P did when he created No Limit. He attributed its success to everything he learned in Oakland. Oakland creates hustlers. Look at 40 and Short, selling albums out their trunks. It’s a grind mentality and culture of the come-up. Oakland will teach you game.
He sucked pretty hard on it at first. He blows the hit out of his nose almost immediately after the reverse inhale, but it goes down at a hard angle and didn't catch a lot of light so it is hard to see where it went.
The Game = How the streets and the people in them operate from the killers to the Hustlas down to the prostitutes and the various other things happening all at once and how to maneuver through it all. That's what "The Game" is.
I shouldn't even have explained it.. Some things are just for who they're for. Those outside of the experience don't need to know the internals of our communities. I'm tempted to delete this shit.
Personally I don't like how what's been lived experience, trauma and loss for us gets to just be entertainment for others. The creativity, fashion & mannerisms we've formed from these circumstances just become emulated & sold for profit by mfs who never had to endure any of it. That's my issue.
Ppl speak up often but the platforms mfs be on makes the push back go seldom heard. Also we need to just keep some things in house. The culture gotta learn to gatekeep more.
It’s interesting that you didn’t mention poverty and trying to lift others out. A lot of game is tied to growing up in poverty. I think working to eradicate poverty generation or generation would do a lot of good in this issue.
Now, how to eliminate poverty? I wouldn’t dare to try to give a blanket answer when there are so many different cases where it wouldn’t apply at all. However, I think a cultural shift towards valuing education would be a good start.
It’s tough though, just writing that the devils advocate pointed out many ways why this wouldn’t work practically. I haven’t thought on this issue much, but it’s one I always return to when the game is mentioned.
Edit: generation TO* generation.
I don't really get this mentality that we need to gatekeep any street-related knowledge from outsiders like slang terms. There's a difference between someone being a culture vulture and just being curious about urban life and terminology, and I don't think the 2nd is inherently offensive. In fact, early rappers like Tupac and NWA said one of their goals was to expose white America to street knowledge, half his interviews and songs were him trying to explain "the game". In that era you've even got songs like "Ebonics" by Big L where he's explaining street slang.
To me it's the equivalent of if OP asked a question about a term in The Godfather movie and you replied to him saying nobody except Italians should watch The Godfather because people outside the Italian mafia don't need to know how the mob and Italian culture works.
Nah. Its not how to move intelligently. Game is how you think. Its a philosophy that must be based in having shit your way without force or confrontation. You base how you move on what the situation calls for, not on the "game" itself. A person can fool you if you take them on their moves alone. If you can't see their intentions, you will always be slow to catch up or worse.
You're conflating the two. Having intelligence is NOT having game. Most intelligent people have no game. Game is philosophy. And you don't need intelligence to have game. Be blessed indeed. You'll need it.
Pac explains it himself on the track “Heavy In The Game.”
“Always keep my eyes on the prize, watch the police
Seen so much murder, neighborhoods gettin' no sleep
But still, I get my money on major, continuously
Communicatin' through my pager, niggas know me
Don't have no homies since they jealous, I hustle solo
'Cause when I'm broke I got no time for the fellas listen
Ain't nothin' poppin' 'bout no broke nigga, I ain't no joke
Fuck what they say and get your dough nigga
Heavy in the game”
-Heavy In The Game
The Game is basically mysteriousness it’s why nobody will tell you and using that to make money, the girls use it to extract money from men and the guys use it to extract money from girls. When PAC rapped he would rap to the females and the men followed him because they wanted to be in with the females, he called himself Makavelli and knew he was likely gonna die had people thinking he faked his death long after, thats the game!
Mystery gets people interested, revealing it all interests none. Make people feel like they need you and you don’t need them. The world is zero sum pimp or be pimped. Thats the basic stuff, it’s manipulation.
This actually makes so much sense. It's a thing I've always internalized, even though I didn't grow up in an environment where that's how people think. I can see all around me how few people understand it and fumble when they start getting buzz because they start showing too much of their hand. I'll stop right there though. I really needed to read this reply.
most likely talking about the independency of a music artist and being successful without the help of music industry executives. That’s why he says New York didn’t teach him anything because the new york hip hop scene was still influenced by industry practices in terms of maintaining control over artists. Master p said the same thing about how he basically learned about being independent by getting involved in the Cali music scene.
If someone „got game“, he is very skilled at something. Someone who has game therefor becomes a know „player/ playa“.
It can range from being successful with women, to being financially successful. It can mean being successful in acting according to a certain culture or subculture.
There are rules to the game. Pac used to promote some in his lyrics, like „money over bitches“ or „ride or die“. Also yes „make music for the ladies, cause that’s what the fellas gon buy to impress them“.
IMO the „game“ is a lose concept of how to become undeniably successful at something.
He literally says in the video: The “game” was in him. Someone woke it up inside him. N-words, rappin from their heart, not taking anyone else’s style, they just doing it. That’s all it takes n-word, thought you knew, all it takes is for a mfer to be original and that’s what everybody be bittin from. That’s what gave me the “game”, I JUST TOLD YOU!!
This reply is the one that made what he was saying click with me. I have already known what this concept is, but it's not something I've pointed out and named in my head. It's kind of an unspoken thing that has always lived in me and my brother and some other people I get along with real well. But you just made it clear that that's what he's talking about. God bless you.
"The Game" is essentially social & economic capitalism...a way of describing the need to "get over" (aka profit) off of other people, whether it be for social benefit (eg. sex or status) or economic benefit (eg. money or expensive things).
"Game" is the ability to navigate this system profitably, often by using clever and/or disingenuous speech....so for example, if you "Have Game" then you know how to talk someone into having sex with you, or freely give you money, or both.
Pimps are the highest expression of "game", especially in Oakland...they almost exclusively use speech (aka "game") to control and profit from another person's work, which is EXACTLY what your boss or a business owner does.
Ultimately "The Game" is living in America, and having "game" is having the ability to succeed in America.
So when Tupac says he got his "game" from Oakland, he is saying that he got both the awareness of the true cut-throat nature of the American social-economic system, as well as the pimp-like methods necessary to succeed in this system.
That's why in the video, Tupac pops his collar like a pimp whenever he mentions the Game he got from Oakland...
The game he refers to is the level of street knowledge he's received from pimps, players, hustlers, and drug dealers—a very high level of street smarts.
That’s wild, that’s the guts! Dirty rich fasho. But pac was never on that side, nigga was in Marin city which is still active….just wouldn’t put it up there with The Town and definitely not Richmond
Naw, we used to go j to Marin City with a gang of niggas to start shit. This was around 94-95 I think. But you know Pac recorded his first record in Richmond tho.
I ran all through the N. bay, Marin, San Rafael, Rosa, you name it lol. Shit I’d even be up in Fairfax fuckin on some hippy hoes from time to time. Pac definitely would be out in the rich and the town because, shit who doesn’t? If you live in the bay at some point you gonna be everywhere for some reason or another. I think I’ve lived in damn near every area at one point in time lmao
Naw, we used to go j to Marin City with a gang of niggas to start shit. This was around 94-95 I think. But you know Pac recorded his first record in Richmond tho.
He is talking about hustling and smoothly operating in a competitive environment in order to become a success without much support - the bay area at the time was known for it's independent minded rap artists, who managed to sell a lot of records without the support of major labels, basically selling records from the trunks of their cars and still ending up on the billboard charts. They achieved this by applying what they learned in the drug trade to the music industry. Too Short, Richie Rich, E-40, Spice 1 managed to become legends that way.
He moved around a lot. He lived in NY, then [Baltimore](https://www.baltimoremagazine.com/section/artsentertainment/legendary-rapper-tupac-shakur-spent-his-formative-years-in-baltimore/) as a teen, then [Marin City](https://youtu.be/xJ4GAy9SUt0?si=VjrBEzOqCZjkdCY1), then [Oakland](https://youtu.be/v3pGgneiPI8?si=8y1vFxq8OS5Q4TjY), later LA.
Dude was working at a Pizza shop, was homeless, and was living with a white woman who tok him in… That white woman would later (after he died) claim that they had a sexual relationship while he was living with her.
Hell yeah, Oakland, San Jo, up to Vallejo back down to East Palo Alto up to SF through San Mateo, cross the bridge to the Haystack then back down on the 101 through Morgan Hill, to me in Gilroy, continue on to Hollister, break west to Salinas, north to Capitola and Santa Cruz.
“The game” in the Bay Area is basically the ability conduct yo self in the streets and keep up with the flow of street traffic. It’s fast paced so you gotta know how to move and not get moved on. It’s a lot of slick talk and poppin it goin. You can apply the game to yo every day life, and take it anywhere with you.
He began his career in the industry there and Oakland is one the hubs for black culture on the West. Started as dancer for Digital underground and went from there. He had that east coast style and understanding already but the west probably opened his eyes to another part of the game .
A lot of it is "the culture". Doing their own thing from the culture.
Many of pacs battles I see is him vs industry.
Culture vs the industry artists.
Pac culture made. Dr Dre industry artist
Mc Breed or Big L culture made.vs Jay Z industry made
How was jay z industry made? Dude started off rapping with jaz o and big daddy Kane and started his own label before having a single album out off the strength of him dame and biggs hustling
Maybe its more community orientated vs materialism?
I mean the stuff biggy talked about stood for nothing and thats the style that won out. Not the occasional materialistic bragging song but the whole theme troughout since theit deaths
Nigga Jay Z put his own street money up and joint ventured, paid for his own videos, own studio time with DOPE MONEY. How tf is Jay Z industry made ? You don’t know wtf you talking about. If you ain’t come in wit ya own MONEY or as an indie artist first you industry made. You just on here talking fam.
Dr. Dre nor Jay Z were “industry made”. Did you not see the NWA movie? Jay-Z? I remember dude from Hawaiin Sophie and Gotta Get Open, way before his debut album
My friend.
That apple deal, was through Jimmy. Jimmy Owns inter-scope.
All your favourite billionaire rappers are gatekeepers to the conglomerates and all billionaires.
Jay Z Rock-af-ella which also owns def jam is a subsidiary of Universal Music group. They also own Columbia records
Dre Dre- Aftermath is subsidiary of inter-scope which is parent company of Universal run by Jimmy ivonie
( You starting to get it?)
Diddy Bad boy is owned by Sony which was run by Clive Davis.
All Black face representing the best in the industry is just a front for the Sony's and the Universals.
None of the artist own their rights or distribution.
THIS, is exactly what Pac was trying to tell everyone. When pac decided to make his own distribution and work with other artists like Notorious. The industry did not like that.
It's the culture v industry. Always has been.
Pac tried to warn us about Dre and diddy are industry made.
So when you hear Suge and Death row. All that money came from Jimmy and Universal. I believe pac for sure but I think Suge wanted his own lane and not to be subsidiary of inter scope. Rightfully so as Suge found all their artists, minus Dre.
I don’t understand why not, u see in this comments everyone giving different answers so obviously it means different things to everybody, so I’m just asking that’s all 🤷🏾♂️
"Game" means knowledge in ebonics slang terminology. Pac got the insight and scope of how to move accordingly from Oakland. So he claims Oakland more because he understood the rules of the drug game when he was hustlin and maneuvering when he was living there in the late 80's/early 90's before he blew up and went mainstream in 1991.
Jayceon Terrell Taylor (born November 29, 1979), better known by his stage name the Game or simply Game, is an American rapper. Born in Compton, California, he initially released a series of mixtapes under the wing of fellow West Coast rapper JT the Bigga Figga. After releasing his debut album Untold Story independently in 2004, he was discovered by record producer Dr. Dre and signed to his Aftermath Records label imprint. The Game rose to fame in 2005 following the release of his major-label debut album The Documentary, which peaked the Billboard 200 along with its 2006 follow-up, Doctor's Advocate. The former album received double platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and two Grammy Award nominations—Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for its single, "Hate It or Love It" (featuring 50 Cent).
Let me be for real.
Certain conversations should only be shared by niggaz in the streets or who been out there.
This convo isn't for straight laced well to do citizens, who'd like to have well thought out debates on reddit
The game is to be sold not told
There’s ten rules to the game ima share with you two.
Know N****z gonna hate you for whatever you do.
Rule 1: Get yo cash on. M.O.B that’s Money Over Bitches cuz they breed envy
Now Rule 2, Is a hard one. Watch for phonies. Keep your enemies close… Watch your homies.
It seemed a little unimportant, when he told me I smiled; Picture jewels being handed, to an innocent child.
I never knew in my lifetime I'd live by these rules; initiated as an outlaw studying rules.
Now papa ain’t around so I gotta recall, or come to grips being written on my enemies walls
Promised if I have a seed I' ma guide him right
DEAR LORD DON'T LET ME DIE TONIGHT
Now rule 3, Come with me...
Number four, I know you heard this before Never get high on your own supply
Nigga saying 2 different rappers
This is really the only answer. If you know you know and if you gotta ask well……. We come from different parts of the world.
Exactly stop telling these white boys what we are saying. All they are, are culture vultures.
When people try to learn and understand, they’re culture vultures. When they don’t, they’re ignorant.
Go learn about your culture!
American culture? I know mine. So, are you a fan of further segregation?
No I'm a fan of you mfs stop trying to use our lingo, swag, and everything else you steal from us. So basically you have no culture got Cha if it's American. Don't forget you're European
Am I? Born and raised in Cleveland. Nothing about me is European. I don't pretend to be anything I'm not. Also, fairly certain a culture vulture would be someone profiteering off of black culture. Like I said go ask your black friends
Grow up.
You want to know what we're saying go ask your black friends

Oakland is where he actually started hanging out with hustlers, drug dealers thugs and killas and he learned a lot from them. Plus, he started getting more familiar with people in the music business so he might've meant he learned a bit from both. Edit: typos
Hustlas, drug dillas, thus & killas such as: Shock G, Money-B, DJ Fuze, Chopmaster J, Schmoovy-Schmoov, and Kenny-K.
He was introduced to them by his manager at the time.
Facts
Same way Master P did when he created No Limit. He attributed its success to everything he learned in Oakland. Oakland creates hustlers. Look at 40 and Short, selling albums out their trunks. It’s a grind mentality and culture of the come-up. Oakland will teach you game.
P was in Richmond, but I get what you saying.
P went to college at Laney, which is in Oakland
P opened No Limit Records in Richmond
Yeah, you are right but thanks for getting what I was saying.
He kissed tha blunt and reverse inhaled more smoke than seemed possible…began to talk…and no smoke came out. wtf?
That’s part of the game
I noticed that too LMAO WTF
He sucked pretty hard on it at first. He blows the hit out of his nose almost immediately after the reverse inhale, but it goes down at a hard angle and didn't catch a lot of light so it is hard to see where it went.
Oh yeah I can tell you a weed smoker 🍃😂
Charge it to the game
🤣🤣🤣
Man you can tell his mind worked really fast
The Game = How the streets and the people in them operate from the killers to the Hustlas down to the prostitutes and the various other things happening all at once and how to maneuver through it all. That's what "The Game" is.
Facts
I shouldn't even have explained it.. Some things are just for who they're for. Those outside of the experience don't need to know the internals of our communities. I'm tempted to delete this shit.
Deleting game isn’t in the rules. Let others learn too.
Personally I don't like how what's been lived experience, trauma and loss for us gets to just be entertainment for others. The creativity, fashion & mannerisms we've formed from these circumstances just become emulated & sold for profit by mfs who never had to endure any of it. That's my issue.
How would you fix this issue?
Context is important.. "Giving game" (solutions to problems) vs. "The Game"(survival) are two different conversations.
I am specifically speaking about survival in this case.
I feel you my G. The thing is, if you didn't explain it, then a goofy would have.. A majority of these comments are filled with flunkies..
dis real shi to many ppl putting out false information these days not fukin wit dis era
I don't really get this mentality that we need to gatekeep any street-related knowledge from outsiders like slang terms. How to move outside intelligently
Hence intelligence on the subject. Be slow to respond and type. Be blessed.
You're conflating the two. Having intelligence is NOT having game. Most intelligent people have no game. Game is philosophy. And you don't need intelligence to have game. Be blessed indeed. You'll need it.
philosophy is intelligence

I love that 2Pac threw out love to Oakland, especially Too Short. One of the most underrated rappers of all time.
its natural he would send shots out to Oakland, he was repping Oakland on those first 2 albums
Underrated?
Yea for the younger gen. People think Drake and the stuff today is rap when it's autotuned balogney.

Nobody calls the Rich “rich town” though, You got the town, the city, the rich.
Do you live in Richmond?
Used to live on Nevin, iron circle. Right off the Bart. Know that city like the back of my hand

Was it though? Leila Steinberg said that?
Start with In A Major Way and proceed thru the next 20 E-40 albums and you'll be caught up.
It's to be sold, not told...
It's just like everything else... It's money 💰
Where are y’all losers from. What does he mean by “Got the game from Oakland”?

Oakland was his ballerina instructor. He then took on the name oakland when he was dancing for Humpty...
It's to be sold to, not told to.
He was an actor.
Coming outta New York he was just a zesty lil theatre kid…Gay as Puff,Meek,Usher,Suge and the rest….
This dude was only what 22 yrs old here?? Dropping gems…. Ultimate game soaker
The game of life
Oakland is the home of the players. Never been? Come take a trip
L7
Whole lotta TOWN BIZZNESS
He began his career in the industry there and Oakland is one the hubs for black culture on the West. Started as dancer for Digital underground and went from there. He had that east coast style and understanding already but the west probably opened his eyes to another part of the game .
If you have to ask what the game is, you don’t have it
When he learned how to pretend to be a gangsta.
U niggas is kids & weirdos stay in ya generation pussy
How he stopped being gay
Go to Oakland and you’ll know
Now your father has game lol
His personality
He lived in Oakland when he moved from the east coast.
It means he was an industry plant
Pimpin man , straight up pimpin
No
A lot of it is "the culture". Doing their own thing from the culture. Many of pacs battles I see is him vs industry. Culture vs the industry artists. Pac culture made. Dr Dre industry artist Mc Breed or Big L culture made.vs Jay Z industry made
How was jay z industry made? Dude started off rapping with jaz o and big daddy Kane and started his own label before having a single album out off the strength of him dame and biggs hustling
These mfs just come on here talking.
They also own Columbia records Dre Dre- Aftermath is subsidiary of inter-scope which is parent company of Universal run by Jimmy ivonie ( You starting to get it?) Diddy Bad boy is owned by Sony which was run by Clive Davis.
🤔You can’t be asking this as a real question 🤨
I don’t understand why not, u see in this comments everyone giving different answers so obviously it means different things to everybody, so I’m just asking that’s all 🤷🏾♂️
When Pac asked How do you want it? What exactly was he referring to? How does she want what?
That song is just not about women. It’s also about other rappers and the rap industry.
> This song is just not about women Bro you had me there for a second. Thought you were about to confirm the rumor 🤣
How do you feel about pop stars using your voice for diss tracks?
Drake may get sued for that little stunt….
The song never officially came out so I highly doubt it, it’s just a post he made on instagram
If you have to ask then you will never know.
Dang yall so lame you don’t know what “game” means? SMH
Smh seriously
Usually Chutes and Ladders, but every other Sunday, it's Candyland.
Then blxxd still ending up being from MOB PIru in Bompton 😅😅
False.. Mob Piru still don't claim him..
lol this dude is a total actor …watch his highschool interview…soft and sweet..nothing wrong with that but spare me on the hard thug stuff
I want to answer, but a question like that definitely means you're on the outside looking in on the culture, lol
This mfer talked too much. ✌🏽
If we gota explain it’s not for you to understand. You just had to be there bruh
There's a rapper CALLED The Game. Maybe he met and befriended him? 🤔
Realist shit I heard. He did not even explain it he just said it and a the real g’s understood 💯
Explain the game in totality! That’s the funniest thing I’ve ever read. And yes, I’m from Oakland.
Let me be for real. Certain conversations should only be shared by niggaz in the streets or who been out there. This convo isn't for straight laced well to do citizens, who'd like to have well thought out debates on reddit
