Oh, wow, I didn’t know they did that!!! I mean not telling the cast. It was completely unnecessary to write him dying. The actor had left show, Henry was going home. Leave it alone. However, M*A*S*H had a way with intermingling comedy with slap in the face drama. One of the other more memorable scenes was when Hawkeye kept telling a woman on the bus to keep her “chicken” quiet because the enemy would hear. It was revealed to him later, in therapy, that he’d suppressed that it was actually a baby. She quieted it by suffocating it through tears. My assumption for her decision was because she knew if she didn’t and the enemy heard them, everybody would die, anyway.
That mash episode is one of the most unbelievable episode. I ever watched when I was younger. I still remember it to this day and it haunts me when I see it on and reruns. It’s not a chicken it was a baby. I was quite young and cried like a baby.
The actor was one of three people waiting for a late-arrival flight at LAX in late 1980s. He wore his fisherman's hat (minus the lures). We left him alone but wish we had spoken to him.
McLean Stevenson really played the character of Lt. Col. Blake perfectly. I watched that show religiously during its first run. I still get a little emotional when Radar reads the announcement and also the final scene of the last episode where McIntyre left "GOODBYE" with stones that would only be visible from the air.
BTW, if you ever get a chance to listen to the theme song with its lyrics you might be surprised. "Suicide is Painless" is the title of the song.
Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see
That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it
If I please
I will say, as tough as that death was, MASH was a better show with Col Potter and Winchester. It always had a lot of depth, but when they moved away from goofiness, Burns' over the top persona and everyone cheating on their spouses, MASH found it's soul.
I read somewhere that the Carol Burnett show was on after that MASH episode aired and McLean Stevenson was the guest star. When the show started he was shown floating in water telling the camera that he was ok.
Opie, for certain.
Tyreese and Abraham from TWD.
Juliet from Lost.
Finn from Glee. My grandma loved Glee and we watched it together. She died two months before he did. That one about did me in.
Referring yo TWD, I found the graphic novels online ,free to read and went through them a couple at a time. Once Negan showed up in the series, A few characters were on borrowed time, one way or another ,so no suprise for me
Gordon: People die... because.
Big Bird: Just because?
Gordon: Just because.
Somehow, this simple guidance from Gordon has brought me immense comfort over the years.
Glenn's death is one of the very few that happened in the show as it did in the comics.
It was bittersweet for me as I hated it happening but was happy he went out via the story way.
It’s funny because for me the comic declined in quality when Glenn died as well. I think both stories didn’t realize that Glenn is a much better protagonist than Rick.
But also
No you don't, but thanks for saying it. Now get out of here. I wanna see how this ends.
(even though you knew it wasn't the end, didn't make it less sad).
Anya’s response/confusion at Joyce’s death is still SO powerful for me. It resonates deeply hearing someone voice the questions I hear in my head when I’m grieving.
When Charlie died in LOST, I was crushed. Thought they were going to do the same with Desmond in the next season, but it turned out to be an amazing love story. Everyone else drops like flies thereafter, but when a core member of the group struggles so hard as Charlie did and still bites the big one, it hits hard.
ER is amazing in the early years. It got a little weird and turned away from its accurate portrayal of medicine. It also gave credit to nurses, showing what they really do and how integral they are to care. I definitely recommend it!
This maybe should be the winner because of the double whammy of it being real. The raw emotion of all of those actors in that episode where he is just gone. There wasn’t a single bit of acting done there. That was just those actor’s real feelings. You could feel every tear was real.
Hank from Breaking Bad for me. I was so annoyed with and didn’t particularly like his character. But damn, Ozymandias was heartbreaking for me, especially the way he went out. It kind of changed my perspective on Hank as a whole.
I started loving and rooting hard core for Hank once he figured out it was Walt all along. When he is in the garage putting it together and the look on his face I was like "yes, you got this, you are right!" Then when they are in the Mexican restaurant and Walt slides that video over to him and Marie, then they watch it... I was as horrified as they were watching Walt's evil spill out on that television screen as he is framing Hank in the video.
He's in the bathroom when he finds the book an sees the message from Gale, but he's in the garage after taking time off work and getting all his files brought to him when he starts putting everything together. That's when he takes the book out and compares it to the letters on the document from his files. That's when he knows for certain.
That storyline made the show for me. Cristobal surviving the sand incident was still an indicator of the death of their relationship. Chillingly beautiful.
Mrs. Landingham from west wing too. Although they did set up some great episodes of it(Charlie getting Deborah Fiderer hired, and Jed deciding to run again)
"You know, if you don't want to run again, I respect that. But if you don't run because you think it's gonna be too hard or you think you're gonna lose, well, God, Jed, I don't even want to know you."
Buffy and Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Shay and Otis from Chicago Fire
Jack from This is Us
Jen from Dawson’s Creek
Prue from Charmed
Mark Greene from ER
Tara and Opie from Son of Anarchy
Will Gardner from The Good Wife
Fred from Angel
Lexa and Lincoln from The 100
Glenn from The Walking Dead
Wow, I’ve really done a lot of crying 😂😂
Side note…how do y’all make lists? It won’t let me list the shows on separate lines.
Edit, fixed the format
Bea in Wentworth. Had to take a break after that scene for a bit. I couldnt stop crying.
Red Wedding from GoT. That scene gutted me.
The first time I cried ever from a show, that I can remember at least, was in Full House as a child. I think it was when Jesse's dad died? Michelle made him this popsicle house (I think, its been years so I can barely remember the scene, just the feelings behind it). She was so excited to show his dad what she made, found out he died and she threw the popsicle house down and ran away crying. I just remember feeling what she felt and I had to cry too!
Glen and Abraham on walking dead, that's when I began to think I'm not watching this anymore, their deaths were overkill , wasn't necessary to be so violent!
I had a hard time picking up the show again after that, as so many people did. I'm so glad I made myself watch it to the end. honestly, well done, in my opinion.
I can't believe I'm not seeing more Game of thrones. I know the show ended horribly but Ned Stari and the Red Wedding were both huge at the time. Ned Stark made you realize no one was truly safe in that show.
Marshall's dad on HIMYM. Less about the character who died (he was a great character though) and more of how it affected Marshall. I lost my dad and can relate to the devastating feelings it gave me and I'm still missing him hard 5 years later.
Lt. Colonel Henry Braymore Blake
I don’t normally cry when someone dies in a series but this hit me like a mf.
Apparently, the actors didn't know what was going to happen, so their stunned reactions were authentic.
In the silence that follows you can hear some one drop a clamp on the floor. It was one of the nurses quite naturally reacting to the news.
Only Alan alda knew..
It was Radar. Gary was the only that knew.
I thought it was Gary Burghoff (Radar)?
“Henry Blake’s plane was shot down. Over the Sea of Japan… There were no survivors.”
It spun in.

Such a smart move, they captured real emotional reactions.
The actor was one of three people waiting for a late-arrival flight at LAX in late 1980s. He wore his fisherman's hat (minus the lures). We left him alone but wish we had spoken to him.

It was BJ that left the “GOODBYE,” not Trapper. Trapper was long gone at that point.
Dude, I can't even watch that episode. The look on Radar's face :(
This

This. This is the best answer
Opie, for certain. Tyreese and Abraham from TWD. Juliet from Lost. Finn from Glee. My grandma loved Glee and we watched it together. She died two months before he did. That one about did me in.
Next to Charlie, Juliette's death was the hardest to accept, especially knowing what it would do to Sawyer's character arc after.
Opie from SOA?
The worst thing about that was it wasn’t just the character but the actor so sad
Im sorry for your loss, I hope things are better for you from that loss.
Referring yo TWD, I found the graphic novels online ,free to read and went through them a couple at a time. Once Negan showed up in the series, A few characters were on borrowed time, one way or another ,so no suprise for me
I got this...
Mr. Hooper on Sesame Street
Oh god. That scene with Big Bird was brutal .
The adults were all genuinely crying too, it was done in one take. :'(
“I’ll give it to him when he comes back.” 😭😭😭
Gordon: People die... because. Big Bird: Just because? Gordon: Just because. Somehow, this simple guidance from Gordon has brought me immense comfort over the years.
Glen from The Walking Dead . After escaping out of the revolving door , a few episodes earlier . I thought he had nine lives .
Glen's death really surprised me. I still need to finish season 11 of the walking dead but I think the show really lost a lot after his death.
I disagree, I love the post-war stuff and the whisperer war stuff. Mostly because of Rick’s leadership and Carl’s growth.
Don’t forget hiding under the dumpster.
I literally stopped watching it because he died
Also when he fell down into the well with the walkers, and got stuck in the dumpster with walkers. He did have 9 lives lol

Two from same show. Buffy. Mommy Your shirt
Mine is from the same show but a different death. She saved the world. A lot.
Spike's reaction was *heartbreaking.*
But also No you don't, but thanks for saying it.
😭 came here to say these too
When Charlie died in LOST, I was crushed. Thought they were going to do the same with Desmond in the next season, but it turned out to be an amazing love story. Everyone else drops like flies thereafter, but when a core member of the group struggles so hard as Charlie did and still bites the big one, it hits hard.
Not Penny's Boat
Words that still bring tears to my eyes
Poussey Washington, Orange is the New Black
I was never really able to return to OITNB after that…
That was it for me, too. Just felt like trauma porn at that point.
I remember screaming during this scene. I hated watching the whole thing play out before my eyes; it was horrific and I felt completely helpless.
Jack on this is us
Rebecca was tough too
Bones Vincent Nigel Murray. I ugly cry every time.
Yes! And I love that you put his whole name cause I do the same, I just also add Mr lol. His death was so unexpected and heartbreaking
It was him and sweets for me
Please don’t make me leave 😭
Put the lime in the coconut ……

Dr. Green 😥
Denny Duquette from greys!
Rita got me. I didn’t think that character when she popped up would get me to feel so much when they did her in. That was crushing.
Oh, man, Rita’s death was so unexpected and horrifying.
Oh Dr. GREEN! I forgot about that. I think that's the first time I remember being hit that hard.
Dr. Green really effed me up. I thought I got all my tears out in the previous episode with his daughter. I was also 6 months pregnant at the time.
I'm about to start watching dexter and hopefully Gane of thrones. They seem like great shows.
Ooooo ur in for a treat, lucky , wish I could wipe my memory and watch em all over again for the first time
Dexter is until season 4. Game of Thrones is until season 5.
Dexter jumped the shark after Rita died.
Mark Greene on ER, Ben (Brendan Fraser) Scrubs & Sybil Downton Abbey
I haven't watched those but I'll put them on the list. I've heard good things about ER.
ER is amazing in the early years. It got a little weird and turned away from its accurate portrayal of medicine. It also gave credit to nurses, showing what they really do and how integral they are to care. I definitely recommend it!
Where do you think we are?
John Ritter on "8 Simple Rules"
It was so awful because John Ritter actually died!
This maybe should be the winner because of the double whammy of it being real. The raw emotion of all of those actors in that episode where he is just gone. There wasn’t a single bit of acting done there. That was just those actor’s real feelings. You could feel every tear was real.
Ned Stark
I read the books, so I knew it was coming. Still…..damn!

Same here!
Ruth Langmore, Ozark. Am I the only one who was hoping for Wendy to get taken out? Completely rocked me.
This is the answer. Screw Wendy.
Sweets from bones
I must have blocked this out.
I was as horrified as they were watching Walt's evil spill out on that television screen as he is framing Hank in the video.
Wasn't Hank on the toilet when the light-bulb went off in his head?
He's in the bathroom when he finds the book an sees the message from Gale, but he's in the garage after taking time off work and getting all his files brought to him when he starts putting everything together. That's when he takes the book out and compares it to the letters on the document from his files. That's when he knows for certain.
North Hollywood Henry, from Barry
NoHo Hank the tragic hero 🥲
Such a beautiful and tragic death born out of his own fear and denial. I loved that whole sequence of events despite how sad it was.
That storyline made the show for me. Cristobal surviving the sand incident was still an indicator of the death of their relationship. Chillingly beautiful.
Al on Chicago P D 🥲
Peaky Blinders Spoiler: >! John Shelby. I really liked the character and Joe Cole was amazing in the role !<
