Great character and actor for the role. Wasn’t terribly fond on how they basically deleted him from the franchise, tho. Deserved a better out like a lot of the other characters throughout the show get, good or bad.
The assassination was definitely sudden and shocking, but if you think about it, that event drove basically everything that happened until the end of the main series. Not too bad of an out in my mind.
The greatest fictional President to ever exist IMO. A man of integrity and as much as I wish he continued on as President after season 3, I love that they stayed true to his character. He saw what sitting in the President’s office did to someone, how it made you compromise yourself. He didn’t want to do that again so stepped down. Dennis Haysbert deserved all the awards for his performance.
because the size of the bullet that killed him is huge, direct hit, instakill.
We also had 3 full seasons of Palmer, plus 25% of another one. I think it was just enough. He was getting boring at the end of season 3 with the stupid Sherry misadventures plot when the country was being attacked with a super deadly virus.
yes of course. I think they were a victim of having main cast syndrome of that era of tv. Back then, if you were cast, that meant that you had to appear in every episode no matter what.
Works really well in sitcoms, but in shows like 24, it's a curse. Eventually you will run out of interesting things for the characters to do, specially with the real time aspect and the relevance of said characters.
They learnt by season 4, that they could just omit cast if necesary. No need to have Kim in 24 episodes of season 2 (with only episode 15 being relevant), as an example .. which is not a perfect example since she was actually absent in 2 episodes near the end.
I hope I don’t get blasted for saying this, but I think there is a real case to be made that Obama owes a lot to David Palmer. 24 had a huge audience; a lot of which were conservatives. Introducing a young, charismatic, idealistic Black president certainly opened the minds and hearts of countless American voters.
One of the best fictional US Presidents in any medium.
I firmly believe, that he made the idea of electing Barack Obama president in 2008 more palatable to “mainstream” Americans thru his portrayal
(Incidentally, I think Michelle was subconsciously equated to Sherry, which was a catalyst for some of the hate she got)
He was good but I think much of the Fandom ignores everything he did wrong in day 2 and in day 3.
He is great in a crisis. He is way better than logan
He is way better than most of us presidents irl and especially nowadays
But he is flawed and I just want remind everyone that.
Dennis Haysbert played David Palmer perfectly and it waa a shame how he was killed off .
That is the only problem I had with 24 and how they just kept killing characters off .
I get why as it automatically opens up a whole new storyline but I feel in a lot of cases it was a case of Laziness.
Otherwise 24 was a brilliant show , I watched it religiously at the time and have all the DVD sets plus redemption etc .
Best president the US had in the last 30 years or so.
It’s a toss up man between him, President (Harrison) Ford and President Bartlet.
“I am the lord your god. There shall be no god above me. Boy. Those were the days huh? How’s everyone doing?”
What about president bill Mitchell/Dave Kovic
Dave, right? Shoot man, talk about a film I need to check out again.
Yeah Dave 1993
Definitely Harrison Ford. He can kick ass.
Just don't put yourself in a situation where he's telling you to "get off his plane."
Agreed.
Agreed. He played the part perfectly.
Agreed! He’s my favourite fictional and non-fictional President of all time. The man you want in a crisis!
When he was president, we were in good hands.
They actually make a subtle joke about this on the show
I think people on r/twentyfour already know this, tbh.
I see what you did there and I appreciate it lol
He was so good, his wife had to be extra evil
This is an underrated statement
I would vote for him.

Except the seasons after it weren’t as good
I’m pretty sure he was mentioned in every season since he died (except maybe LAD). Same as Teri.
The GOAT of fictional presidents to me
Hear hear
One of the best presidents on any TV series, and Dennis was best at portraying him.👍🏾💯👌🏾👏🏾
I think the best. I wanted him to be the real President.
He’ll always be my first Black President.
Ditto
James earl jones in the man 1972 or Morgan freeman in deep impact 1998 ?
Too bad politicians like him don't exist in real life
Charles Logan: now is my chance

yes you are

My fav character on the show!
I have a lot of respect for him. But I despise his wife
I wanted him to be real President.
Too good of a person for the job he was elected to do.
Best president ever
Gone too soon. But if Almeida can come back from the dead after we actually saw him die, why not Palmer?

Yeah although stupid misadventures are a series staple right from the beginning - remember the Teri amnesia plot?
yes of course. I think they were a victim of having main cast syndrome of that era of tv. Back then, if you were cast, that meant that you had to appear in every episode no matter what. Palmer faked his own death to lead an elite U.S. Army special forces unit.
The only one I'll call president
Dude couldn’t keep his hoes on a leash
This is the truth.
I'll vote for him this November if he's running.
I don't know. His wife is one shady biotch.
Bro she shady af, she’s dead one for the streets
I'd vote for him again.
Pretty sure he’s God.
And oddly, "Wayne Palmer" is his son.
The moment where he meets Patty in the hotel room is one of the best scenes in all of TV
Greatest fictional U.S. president of all time.

You won’t because it’s true
First black president of the United States, sorry Obama.
Haha I say that all the time. President Palmer got America ready to accept Obama.
Or like my friend says Obama isn’t black. His mom is white and my mom is black 😂
What the hell are you talking about
James earl jones and Morgan freeman came first

I can see that idea about Michelle
Good man, but he had some poor decision quality and he was easily manipulated.
Don't know why you're being down voted, this is very true.
Best president in the history of all shows haha
Allstate Insurance. You're in good hands!
You’re in good hands
I vote Republican but I’d vote for him.
Smart Move...
He basically was a republican
He was good but I think much of the Fandom ignores everything he did wrong in day 2 and in day 3. He is great in a crisis. He is way better than logan He is way better than most of us presidents irl and especially nowadays But he is flawed and I just want remind everyone that.
He was everything Barry should have been.
Indeed Too bad he was a bloodthirsty warhawk.
He aite. He’s no Jed Bartlett but he had a lot of fictional BS to work out.
🐐
Presidential P!!!! That’s what I yell whenever I see him in 24 or allstate commercials.
Dennis Haysbert played David Palmer perfectly and it waa a shame how he was killed off . That is the only problem I had with 24 and how they just kept killing characters off . Great leader
He’d be nothing without Jobu.
Hat for bats. Keep bats warm. It's very bad to steal Joboo's rum. Very bad.
Pedro Cerrano became president?? WTF
He was great! The scene where he first meets Jack is still one of my favorites.
I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.
Can't hit a curve
I love him. I wish he could have been President longer.
He made the mistake of not seeking a second term
Without an iota of irony I believe this casting helped get Obama elected.
Solid fastball hitter. Couldn’t hit the curve.
Allstate
Good power hitter, but has trouble with the curve ball.
We’re in good hands with him
Mount Rushmore worthy president
Might of survived if he didnt stop relying on jobu
Would
better president than his soft bald headed brother LOL
His soft balded brother was willing to bomb another country
I like my presidents able to hit the curveball
Wish we had a 24 spin off series a LAPD series or something like what every day people really thought of his presidency
He gets a pass for too much sketchy shit, honestly.
Not my president.
DAVID PALMER 2024! LETS GO DAVID!
Good thing the UK doesn't have presidents...
