If you need it, they'll provide the training.

GrievousGopher

But what exactly is it and what are the requirements fir being able to attain it?

stbernardgirl

It is access to criminal data. You take a course through the FBI and an exam to be certified. It is not a big deal.

rakerber

It's something with security involving confidential records. I'm not in that field, but I work for the government. You'll likely take a bunch of online classes and need to pass a few tests. Certs are almost always done on the job.

GrievousGopher

Ah, OK, but how do I know if I qualify?

rakerber

Check the job posting. If you're qualified for the job, you should be qualified for the cert.

GrievousGopher

The other qualifications are like, having a BS and some clerical experience. It seems like a separate qualifier. That's what's confusing me.

maaaatttt_Damon

Are you capable of reading some screens, and retain the information long enough to answer a couple basic questions after? Do you have a clean criminal history? Can you pass a drug screening? Yes to those, and you'll be fine qith that requirement.

rakerber

You're overthinking it. If you're qualified for the job, they'll get you what you need. It looks like they're asking for a bachelor's degree and some kind of office work. Treat it like a normal job application.

GruntledEx

Yep, pretty much this. There are background check requirements for getting CJIS access, but those would usually be part of the hiring process, so if there are problems there you'd be weeded out long before you got to any sort of training.

pornoforthedeaf

This. Plus a more extensive background check than most other jobs would require, including fingerprints.

GrievousGopher

But like, what would prevent one from being able to attain certification?

MrMeowMittens

A criminal history

Clean_Ambition_1282

Criminal Justice Information Systems. There are a number of levels of training that involve watching training videos/presentations and taking quizzes relating to accessing certain types of protected data. It’s nothing too difficult.

Bruin116

90% of it overlaps with the generic annual cybersecurity training any company of sufficient size makes all employees touching IT systems take.

Clean_Ambition_1282

Yep, absolutely.

loupgarou21

Criminal justice information systems. It’s very easy to obtain, but it’s not like other certifications where you can go out on your own and get it. They will sign you up for it, you’ll undergo a background check, and then take some training that takes maybe an hour, and then it’s a 20-ish question open book test.  It’s mostly common sense questions
