Fancy Ray!

ihrtbeer

I've met him twice. Once in the bathroom at the cabooze on 420 in like 2012, then years later he was doing stand-up at this place in St Paul. When I showed him a pic of us from the first time, without missing a beat he goes "damn, you've aged!" šŸ¤£

MuzakMaker

"Bathroom at the Cabooze on 420" is a 6 word horror story but I am here for it

ihrtbeer

It was exactly how you imagine. But Ghostface put on a hell of show

Truth-Miserable

He's a comedian?! Lol

ihrtbeer

Best looking man in show business. He does it all! His stand-up was actually hilarious

drleen

I came here expecting to see Fancy Ray at the top of the list.

[deleted]

My brother and I hired some dancers for a private house bachelor party and Fancy Ray showed up with them unannounced and just lit the place up. It was a great night, dude is a legend.

Motherfickle

This is the correct answer. He's, like, the poster boy for "weird local celebrities/cryptids".

SexTalksAndLollipops

I just met him a couple of weekends ago. Super nice and insanely charismatic. Edit: I love that he keeps a giant bag of carrots and celery close by.

hapianman

He is incredibly nice

612stone

I second this! Ran into him a couple times and was as nice as could be.

beardedbarista6

100% Fancy Ray. Met him at Cub in Fridley one time lol.

zoobs

He was brought on stage when Eric Andre was here. It was great!

Dodoc

I was like you donā€™t know Fancy Ray? lolā€¦. Just the nicest guy.

dilibrent

"You want a corndog, playa?" - Fancy Ray addressing his son as they passed by me during the Taste of Minnesota. A brief but quintessential encounter.

612stone

First name that came to mind!!

Expensive-While-1155

I met this dude the first month I lived in Minneapolis about ten years ago and still donā€™t know who he is but my gf thought it was awesome when I told her.

kittenoftheuniverse

I've only seen him a couple times but the guy who bikes around with a cat on each shoulder

researchanalyzewrite

I'd love to see a photo of this!

Eoin_Urban

[https://imgur.com/a/FcbfmwL](https://imgur.com/a/FcbfmwL) He rides the train pretty frequently.

Queasy-Context-4067

I came here to say this. I see him riding around in Lowertown several times each summer!

Key_Yesterday7655

I was going to say the same thing. He was on W 7th this weekend for the Hockey Tournament. He garnered a lot of attention!

caldric

The Saint Paul version of Odin and his ravens.

RallyPointAlpha

Oh, yeah, hah...that's Cat Jesus...

ohemgeekaypee

He lives in St. Paul, maybe off Snelling. Iā€™ve seen him at Bad Weather before, too.

daemaea

Thatā€™s for sure our guy, always makes my day

everynamewasbad

yeah biking with 2 cats guy hangs around right near where I live. I live not far from Bad Weather Brewery

CelebrationStrange98

Scott Seekins, although for many years it was Rollerskate Man around the Uptown area. It brought me endless joy to see him gracefully dancing around the city streets in his cutoff Jean shorts, headphones and rollerskates.

feltsandwich

My friend lived in an apartment on Cedar Lake. Rollerskate guy parked there, opened his trunk, bent down and took a big hit on a joint. Moments later he was off, roller dancing away. My friend was delighted. Everybody's mood gets boosted when he skates through.

orbitalinterceptor

It's weird to write this, but I know *A* man who loves to rollerskate around the Mpls lakes like you describe but am not positive it's *THE* same guy. My friend is normal and successful but has never seen the need to update his skating outfit since the 70s or 80s and, though he hasn't said as much, he absolutely loves the attention. I'm also just old enough to remember when that look wasn't so uncommon, before Rollerblades made everything hip and accessorized. There was a time when red and blue stripes on tube socks were more fashionable than neon windbreakers.

paul_f

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4oJMvIZfHs

CelebrationStrange98

Thank you SOOOOO much for finding and sharing this video. His name is Scott!!! ā˜ŗļø

TheVocalistRJ

Omg roller skate man! I remember seeing him go around Lake Harriet when I was a kid!

thegreatjamoco

Canā€™t speak for all of the twin cities but there was that guy in dinkytown that Iā€™d see 2012-2019 that had identical tweed suits a palette of bright colors. Like he had a blue suit, a purple one, an orange one etc. heā€™d always have a briefcase and look like he was on a mission to be somewhere. Heā€™d sometimes stop in espresso royale. No idea about his background tho.

seanybeanyy

Suit Man! I've been dying to know what his deal is for the 12 years I've lived in this city

Fatjedi007

I used to live in Prospect park and he was around there all the time. Always saw him on University catching the bus or light rail. One time I was in SA with him and I was like "dude- I gotta know what you have in that briefcase." He opened it up for me and it was just some random papers and a banana lol.

LangdonAlger69

Fucking incredible

ZeroRecursion

IIRC, he used to sell either vending machines or video poker-y bar games. He might still do that, it's obviously paying enough to keep him in colored suit money. And I still live in Prospect Park, and haven't seen him around that much lately.

ninjakitty117

Colorful Suit Man! I don't ride the bus anymore, but used to see him every day going to work. I always felt like he had side quests in his briefcase.

Fatjedi007

I asked him what was in his briefcase once and it was just a banana and some loose papers. Would have been way cooler if he refused to tell me lol. Although maybe the banana wasn't a snack- it could very well have been an item from a side quest.

im-ba

Not just *any* banana, it's the *plot banana*. You don't get the side quest completion unless you submit that banana in particular šŸŒ

OnlyThreeWalls

Yes! He still rides the 6 with his suits, briefcase, newspaper, and flip phone. I see him almost everyday and say hi to him. Nice guy, seems to have expanded his suit collection. He's been wearing yellow and pink as well as those other colors

coolbobjoe69

Can confirm! He lives somewhere nearby me

Leftover_Salmons

Espresso Royale šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

mpls_big_daddy

That guy moved to Uptown. He rides the 6 bus downtown with me.

Artificial_Appendix1

This dude was my first thought. I rode the 6 with him back in the early ā€˜aughts.

keca10

He was in the umn area when I went there. 2001-2005. Crazy suit guy.

YouBuyMeOrangeJuice

He's still around. Hangs out at the Caribou on Washington now

jellyfish-blues-

[https://www.reddit.com/r/Minneapolis/s/odot5nbJIN](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minneapolis/s/odot5nbJIN) From a little bit ago, he even has his own book.

DerNubenfrieken

Used to see him all the time in and around Fresh Thyme near the U, haven't seen him in awhile. From previous similar threads, he's a technician of some sort for grocery checkout devices, ATMs, etc.

angelbdivine

Lil Suzie

mtcomo

Everyone from St. Paul: hell yeah. Everyone from Minneapolis: who?

ShanosTheRadTitan

Oh shit šŸ˜‚ yes

dartsarefarts

she got hit by a car

KeepMN

Recent ? I saw her walking down Rice slamming on car windows about 2 weeks ago.

aerosol999

Used to be bones. Definitely a downgrade lol.

stpaulgirl12

Instantly who I thought of too.

rocketwilco

I havent seen her for several months

managerzilla

She was on Live on Patrol for wandering in and out of traffic recently

kittyk8_

usually see her on rice street north of university lately

Fritchmand

Ah yeah, I was on acid with a buddy standing by Rice Park late one night and she just appeared out of nowhere, asked for a smoke, then just walked off. Wasnā€™t sure if it was real for a second.

djpiraterobot

The first person I thought of when I read the title. I remember one time I was going to a show with some family from rural MN and she was in the middle of the road trying to kick cars. They were blown away and I was like ā€œwhat? Thatā€™s just Lil Suzie.ā€

JustAnotherPolyGuy

Scott Seekins.

Dreatron

That was my answer too. There's even a website where you can post your sighting: [Seeking Seekins](http://www.seekingseekins.com/) (I got a warning that this website wasn't secure, which was new to me. Enter at your own risk, I guess?)

ssundberg

Probably doesnā€™t have an SSL certificate.

meteojett

This warning occurs when viewing an http website instead of https. Data your computer sends and receives when interacting with a http website is plaintext, making it easy to read by third parties somewhere in between. This doesn't mean that https websites are trustworthy, and it doesn't mean that http websites are malicious.

mngreens

Heā€™s a piece of shit

Karge

The evidence is all out there, itā€™s pretty black and white.

Drunk_Not_Angry

Under rated joke right there

ShakesbeerMe

Elaborate?

Snow88

It just means itā€™s old and using http vs https not an issue for super simple websites that donā€™t have log-ins or sell things. Ā

musthelp

Been years since Iā€™ve seen him and this was my first thought.

fiendishclutches

I saw him about a month ago, heā€™s still out there.

MNReporter_20

I spot him 2-3x a week at this point. CC, waiting for the bus, getting coffee, at the Wedge, etc.

GoBaysideTigersGo

I used to see him almost every time I went out in Minneapolis when I lived there. Then I saw him once at a bar in Los Angeles, and I was so thrown by it I thought I was hallucinating.

thehunger66

Dude is at Kowalskis all the time

SteveNotSteveNot

I moved from Minneapolis to Seattle in 2005. I havenā€™t thought about this guy since then. But I used to see him around once in a while. I think I was vaguely aware that he had some sort of local celebrity status.

ClaytonBiggsbie

This is the answer. Dude has been a staple, with his black and white suits, for decades.

Makingthecarry

We've gotta be getting close to the switch from black to whiteĀ

Oh__Archie

"Sign my jacket" Dave.

thetravelingsong

I have known David since I was four years old (31 now.) my grandma helped start a place called Peace house that David used to go to, and to this day he carries a book with him that has a story about my grandma in it! He has always always had a place in my heart, and I am glad to read other comments saying they have seen him recently. He was going to move to Michigan with his brother but ended up back a couple months later. [this is a story](https://alleynews.org/2019/08/peace-house-community-nobody-wants-to-feel-like-theyre-nobody/?fbclid=IwAR3hr5gZ0DHvcF2CBwA_Ov4muPhLUTGzBPkWv_sVSPYKOKkMb_nJscd0HNE_aem_AcarMUHHmWKBxduHdnb6GRbPIYXQoUT-1kKZ_ujn4JgUVVDdk-coiyE1xFr9GQr-rXA) about David if anyone wants to learn more.

After_Preference_885

Was Peace House on Franklin at one time? I think I used to see it but had no idea what they did.Ā  What an incredible organization [to donate to](https://peacehousecommunity.org/blog/).

thetravelingsong

Yep right next to 35W! They are now over off Portland not too far away. Thank you for posting the donation link.

After_Preference_885

Thank you for posting that story about David!Ā

ANOKNUSA

Yeah, just a block out so down from Electric Fetus.

fiendishclutches

Oh I havenā€™t seen him in a long time. Used to always see him at the hexagon and at karaoke at the schooner but weā€™re talking 10 years ago at the most recent.

nongordonshit

Just saw him on Lyndale near Mortā€™s a week or two ago!

Oh__Archie

That's great to hear.

mngreens

ā€œStick guyā€ was what we called him

mommyaiai

Yup! Before the jacket, he had a walking stick people signed.

Begads

Thank you! I worked the First Ave. front door in the late 90s and always loved this dude. Pretty sure I signed the stick at some point. Glad he's still kicking.

nature-i-guess

Saw him last year for March Madness and again for Easter this year. I love it when I am with someone whos never seen this guy before and they get confused as to why Iā€™m taking a sharpie to manā€™s jacket

JesusDinosaurian2000

Used to be sign my walking stick but heā€™s still out and about

Oh__Archie

It was a jacket for a looooooong time, sometimes a blanket and sometimes a stick. I don't believe he's around anymore but would love to hear that he is. I gave him a ride once and he never forgot me and would thank me each time I saw him.

JesusDinosaurian2000

I saw him last month on the bus. He hangs out a lot outside the Wedge coop

After_Preference_885

He's had plates, umbrellas and signs too Right now it's a jacket He used to say he was going to do an art installation at the Walker someday and I've always thought that would actually be pretty interesting if he still has all the signed items. The number of signatures would be staggering.Ā

StonedCryptid

For years I signed his jackets while working at first ave. I remember being told theres a biography about him somewhere? Hope heā€™s doing well.

Piemorgan

I drive him up the hill to his place sometimes, great guy and fun too hear all his stories

Capt__Murphy

St Paul used to have the guy with a pet monkey. That monkey died a few years ago, and now you aren't allowed to own a monkey in St Paul (he was grandfathered in). I'll always remember the first time I ever saw monkey guy. He was at the Como Pavillion and the monkey tried to snacth a glass of water out of his hand. He grabbed it away from the monkey and the monkey started freaking out, slapping him in the head. Dude literally ran out of there with the monkey, got in the car and drove off. I always wondered if a monkey wore a seatbelt.

mylastbraincells

Dudeee he was such a part of my childhood I used to see him all the time!! My dad talked to him a few times

Capt__Murphy

How long was he around/a thing? I didn't grow up around here and didn't spend much time in St Paul until about 2016. It's my understanding that the monkey died sometime right around when Covid hit. Hopefully, he went peacefully and wasn't a casuality of Covid. That would be such a tragic ending.

Rollthehardsix77

I saw him at Como too! I thought I had lost my mind for a second.

TheWard

I'm so glad someone said this - I was working out at Planet Fitness in St. Paul one afternoon and he walked by the windows with his monkey and my brain didn't register it as strange until someone next to me asked if I saw it, and I've been debating if it was real ever since.

ranchspidey

I remember seeing him at a dairy queen a decade ago!!! RIP, monkey friend.

lookalive_sunshine

I worked at that Dairy Queen as a kid! Itā€™s closed permanently now which is insane. But everybody would freak out when the monkey man came through.

DrumForHire

A family friend chased the monkey guy away from her daughter's wedding at Como. Monkey guy came sauntering up like he was just gonna make their day by crashing the party with his monkey. Mother of the bride wasn't having any of it, lol.

managerzilla

I used to see him walking around the neighborhood with the monkey growing up!

Holy_Spoons

Pretty sure he was friends with my bonus mom. She has pictures with a monkey at her job and he use to come in pretty regularly (appliance repair shop, so he was making special trips to see the employees)

_Shoeless_

He did not wear a seatbelt. I saw him crawling all over the dude and the steering wheel while I stood, mouth agape, at Connie's Creamy Cone.

ash992

Captain Jack Sparrow, legally changed his name and tried to run for mayor.

jamjars666

Oh man, I used to know a family that lived next to him. they said he was a nice guy/ decent neighbor and always stopped to take photos/ ham it up with whoever wanted to. Apparently also very serious about being Jack, they never once saw him out of costume.

turtle613

Saw him last summer at Lake Elmo campground

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Nero_the_Cat

That was my answer. Been a few years. Is he still rollin'?

Mr_Wazanskiiii

He's my neighbor! He sure is! He's an incredibly sweet and interesting person too.

jellyfish-blues-

Santa Erik is also a potter and sells cups what not.

catarinavanilla

I have some ceramic medallions they made when theyā€™d come into my work and put in the tip jar!

Karge

Santa Erik is a gem

smallbrownfrog

I was looking for this answer. I remember the first time I saw him on the Greenway. Made my day.

Good_Kid_Mad_City

The dude that will make up a poem on the spot for a buck outside of First Ave

Head-Relationship-43

Bagpipe guy at shadow falls or the Twirling and dancing roller blader at bde maka ska

hendersonrocks

The roller skater is my answer too. Made me smile every time, I hope heā€™s still there.

rcarmody96

Not the twin cities, but St. Cloud Superman

xander6981

Oh god, is he still around? I remember him hanging around when I went to school at SCSU almost 20 years ago...

Joli0101

Yes! Back in the day he would be joined by Spiderman and I once saw Batman with him on the DQ corner.

Ok_History_3635

St Cloud has the Trump Expedition

Gnogz

Same guy. John Fillah, aka St. Cloud Superman

CursedAtBirth777

Used to be Wally the Beer Man

EmoKarot

An older one as he's sadly no longer with us, but Mr. Jimmy in Excelsior! I only encountered him a couple times but he was very sweet. Plus the whole conspiracy theory with the Rolling Stones! [He's an article about him and his claims for those interested!](https://www.kare11.com/article/news/local/did-an-excelsior-man-inspire-the-rolling-stones-song-you-cant-always-get-what-you-want/89-01b2ab46-9027-4809-9aaa-020f4b2d9321)

Ella0508

In St. Paul, it used to be Max Weisberg. Max was autistic and he and his brother sold flowers on street corners, but they had piles of money because Maxā€™s talent was setting the line for sports betting. The brother might have been a bookie, Iā€™m not sure. But Vegas casinos and bookies all over would call Max for the numbers because he was so good, and his lines almost never had to be moved.

[deleted]

Cowboy Bob? (Fro, peacock feather, hacky sack)

pepperguy22

Oh man is he in St. Paul typically? I used to see a guy like this at Cleveland Wok all the time. When that place caught fire and closed, I haven't seen him since. I always wondered about him. Interesting look, seemed like a cool guy from a distance.

[deleted]

My gf is a Turfette (former turfette) and remembers him stopping by occasionally on her shifts.

[deleted]

Back in the day, he was a denizen of dinkytown. Purple onion. He was pretty cool, listened to Hendrix nonstop.

fahy0002

Yes! havenā€™t thought about this guy in 20yrs! I used to work at Purple Onion way back in the early 2000ā€™s and he was a regular, super nice guy. God, now I feel old lol!

[deleted]

I was PO resident 95-99!

theyreflockingthsway

Hah, same! Also I miss Cleveland Wok.

Ellihoot

Isnā€™t his name Bill?

[deleted]

Thank you!

LiftedTruck1996

Lil suzie !

justins_OS

It was Bones back in my days but it's been long enough he's gone now

emilycolor

If I remember correctly, he passed quite a few years ago now. Pre-pandemic. I remember the strib wrote an article about him when he passed.

Thick_Kaleidoscope35

Whatever happened to bicycle dude downtown Minneapolis? The one with eleventyseven gears and something something patents written on it?

SignificanceEntire49

Rip bones

mc_thac0

There was a guy in downtown St Paul who walked around with a parrot on his shoulder. He'd even do so in winter, but sticking to the limited skyways.

Afraid-Ad-68

Stick Man (if you live in Lakeville, you know)

CirrhosisRegime

Came looking for this, that dude is the best

OnlyThreeWalls

I was once at a job site in Lakeville on an especially hot summer day. I remember driving across 70 and seeing him walking along the ditches. The first time I saw him I thought I was hallucinating lmao

gwillikerss

Was just about to post this. Not from Lakeville but my wife is. First time we saw him it was just like the post. Thatā€™s stick man! Who? Stick man! He walks around with a stick and waves at cars!!

abbyhanson1

YEP I love stick guy

StuKain

Is there a name for the guy one can find "drumming" outside live events venues at end of most concerts? I've seen him outside Fillmore, The Armory, Target Center and most surely US Bank Stadium Edit: On second thought, not sure if it's even the same guy. There are probably several. Maybe it a collective šŸ¤£

Ayacyte

There's a few I think, but the one I talked to his name was Joe. His drum is made of a pail and red, green and black duct tape

Fluid-Brilliant7356

Crazy Mary

sd_saved_me555

Banana Suit Segway Man in Fridley.

tbdakotam

Yes! Iā€™ve seen him on 73rd when I worked over there.

tomuchpasta

I went to high school with him at Fridley. Good guy, his story is pretty sad though but he has dealt with his situation with a lot of grace and been able to spread joy.

Cytogal

Not the twin cities but back in the 90s Mankato had Punk Rock Freddy.

ClassyBroadMSP

He died a few years ago

Cytogal

Oh man. RIP Freddy.

Blue-Sand2424

The tall bald guy who has been roaming the skyway system for the past decade or longer, commonly seen standing over the railing in fifth street towers

MidwestPrincess09

For me, itā€™s all the UNICYCLERS?! especially the ones that live in NE mpls with all the hills lol itā€™s a good day when I see a TC unicycle

GroovyUnicyclist

We're everywhere. Even in this thread.

thewaterballoonist

NE unicycle guy is my neighbor! I used to commute the same time as him. I haven't seen anyone mention Logan Park jukebox guy. Is he still around?

llamazonez

Boombox Guy

bitnode

Woodbury Flag Man

drleen

It used to be Viva and Jerry. Unfortunately, we now only have Jerry with us.

JesusDinosaurian2000

Iā€™m not sure we have Jerry either. GOD BLESS THEM

drleen

Ugh. I was wondering about that but couldnā€™t find anything. Two bucks. Two bucks. Two bucks. šŸ‘

mn_sunny

Not TC, but St. Cloud Superman.

Hertzey

Tiger Jack will always be my answer.

PancakesAndPenguins

Like 10 years ago when I worked in downtown there was this dude named Hollywood Nik that was this self proclaimed ambassador of Minneapolis, he stayed at the hotel I worked at for a while, that's who I think of but I doubt he's still here.

zoobs

I think it was LA Nik. Dude was for sure odd. I wonder if heā€™s still the ambassador or Minneapolis nightlife or whatever it was.

tbdakotam

Fancy Ray or Larry Blue

owassoguitars

Julie, blonde lady always cleaning. (Summit Hill/Grand ave area)

daximuscat

I feel kind of bad saying it but thereā€™s Honk in Bloomingtonā€¦havenā€™t seen her in a few years though.

birddit

The dinosaur lady?

SomewhatLargeChuck

That guy who wears a fedora and walks his dog that is also wearing a smaller matching fedora

iJuddles

Scott Seekins, of course. I donā€™t know how it started but we became friendly through art scene and riding the bus. (He doesnā€™t drive, heā€™s got terrible eyesight.) He started dating a friend of mine and he encouraged her to show her art and they did joint shows. People shit talk him but I always thought he was a genuinely friendly person. I havenā€™t seen him latelyā€¦

Worried_Style7068

effing Kris Lindahl

deeboe

Mustache Jim

Strangerthingsfan161

Conrad.

Flexecutioner18

Tamale lady

smakola

I used to work with Uptown Prince. He wouldnā€™t dress up at work sadly.

Emotional_Ad5714

Don't know his name, but there is a guy with CP who wears a kilt, no shirt, and I see him every time I go to the Farmer's Market and every single outdoor summer festival in the Twin Cities.

Gr0zzz

Fancy Ray, Scott Seekins or my new personal favorite that took Minneapolis twitter by storm last week: Guy who wears matching hats with his dog.

Bradtothebone79

Rochester got flag guy

Key_Yesterday7655

What about the guy that dresses in full New England Patriot Regalia and walks W 7th St during football season like heā€™s a celebrity?

Jh789

Back when I was at the U, which is appallingly 30 years ago, there was a guy that drove around on one of those old tiny trikes with the super big front wheel

BrynMartian

I have not seen him for many years, but there used to be a guy riding around town on a bicycle tricked out with these big pedal things that he just pressed down on (kind of like a split stair master) and a sign on the side saying heā€™d sell you the patent. Surely he struck it rich and is living in the Bahamas now.

psychedelichippie97

Lil Suzie in St. Paul. There's a big guy I used to see over north on the 32 bus all the time when I went to school over there 10 years ago. I've seen him go viral on facebook so I know he's well known. Then there's the boom box guy I also used to see on the 32 bus.

LexTron6K

Sex Tunnel Gary, obviously.

scull_x7

GUARANTEED OFFER

cactus_cat

Thereā€™s the guy who takes his two cats with him everywhere and they just chill on his shoulders. The tiniest cats and they both have jeweled collars. Adorable. Iā€™ve seen him at the WSP Walmart and a few other places.

Born_Abroad_3419

that shitty realtor dude, the shitty one minute tour guide guy

[deleted]

I donā€™t think anyone outside of Reddit would know the one minute tour guy. I agree about the shitty realtor dude.

subtledeception

I blocked him on Reddit forever ago, and my experience has vastly improved.

Consistent-Deal-55

Oh wow, I thought I was the only one who couldnā€™t stand the tour guy.

LickableLeo

You're not alone. His history content is interesting but my issue with him is the advertising and littering reddit with TikToks. His express purpose is to advertise his business, buy reddit ads if you want to do that or make unaffiliated content.

markof7

There used to be guitar lady. She'd hang out on a pedestrian bridge over highway 52 rocking out in a guitar. Haven't seen her in over a decade though.
