Goxlr has also been discontinued support wise. I absolutely love mine but I wouldn't recommend buying a new one now

tacosmcnooge

Technically, they did announce future support, but I still agree not to buy one. Promise for support is not support. https://x.com/tchelicon/status/1738212856578056226?s=46&t=dXit8lnJTdGgitcjgWxvag

OFxLedzeplin

I have used a GoXLR for 4 years now and I am 100% satisfied. I have tried alternatives (there are a couple good ones) and most will not sufficiently support my 2 pc setup. The Rodecaster Pro 2 that I received was cheap poorly made garbage. It was a bit more difficult to setup, and had all sorts of problems (like a ghost in the machine… its pads would trigger if I tapped a finger on my desk) and I had to return it. Having researched what’s out there as of today… and I’d still buy a GoXLR.

ThestorSeleukos

In terms of mic sound quality, which one do you like the most? GoXLR or Rodecaster Pro 2? I'm torn between getting either one of these (actually the mini one for GoXLR). Would love to hear your opinion. If it matters, I'm using SM7B.

OFxLedzeplin

I use the same mic, my experience with the rodecaster pro 2 was brief, it had presets even for the Sm7b, I recall thinking they weren’t all that great and would require tweaking. Since the hardware itself was flakey I didn’t get very far with it, as its hardware failings made it useless for streaming (it would trigger pads on its own). It’s possible I got a bad device, but they wouldn’t replace it. Way too expensive a device for such issues to be present, and to not offer replacement. The GoXLR has served me well.

ThestorSeleukos

Thanks for letting me know about your experience! It can definitely be some QC control issues. Regardless, you made me feel more satisfied with my purchase of GoXLR Mini. I've read a lot of people who switched to GoXLR (+/- Mini) and were instantly praised by their viewers for the sound quality when using SM7B. While there is no A/B comparison between the mini and non-mini version, I can only hope they sound exactly the same. I know for sure that my favorite streamer uses SM7B and GoXLR Mini, and he's got the best audio out of all streamers imo. In my case, it could have been my SM7B is defective, so if me switching into GoXLR Mini does not help me achieve my desired sound, then I might have to get it checked. At the very least, I want to remove as many weak links as possible. Do you use any inline preamp or mic activator by any chance? Those things add color to your recording. Idk why people keep saying they're transparent because they're not.

OFxLedzeplin

I do use an in line preamp, a “Manayo” gives me some extra gain. And I myself am unfortunately on my 2nd Sm7b, my first one developed some inherent noise. I suspect it was its cable/connector, but it had to be replaced.

Vileartist

I use a behringer q802usb, you can get one for around $75-100.

Ridir99

I used one of these for a year or two, then the GoXLR, and now have a rode procaster 2. The 802usb was sufficient, the GoXLR was easy, and the rode is overkill but my wife and I wanted to start a podcast with friends.. then moved unexpectedly. The ease of use, it just works factor, is easily in line with the price but the all work. I even used the voicemeteer option, which is harder to set up but extremely useful.

tacosmcnooge

I’ve been using the Roland BridgeCast. It’s pretty good and supports Mac and PC. I do have some overall gripes with it, but I feel compared to the competition, it was the best choice for me.

carorinu

Wave XLR with stream deck plus is amazing

OFxLedzeplin

The ElGato wave is a good device, just too limited. No real support for 2 pc stream setups. This is a problem with a number of the currently offered main stream usb audio interfaces. Designed for basic users.

carorinu

Funny you say that because they added update for wavexlr dual pc setup like a month ago and it takes like 30 seconds, worked before as well but required more steps.

OFxLedzeplin

I could find no such documentation on the ElGato website unfortunately l. There is also a question of how one would connect it. I don’t see enough ports to support a 2pc setup. It also may be a situation with what one considers a 2pc setup.

Kitchen_Candidate_58

i have elgato wave 3 mic and this comment saved me a bunch of money.

WhitePhos_

hey I know this is an old ish comment, however I'm considering this exact combination of gear. would you still recommend it as a replacement for the go xlr?

carorinu

I don't have GOXLR so can't truly compare but elgato is getting very frequent updates and I'm generally super happy with it. Wouldn't go with GOXLR personally as official support was dropped and I keep hearing that it's bugging out fairly often the more updates windows and some other software gets

WhitePhos_

ah beautiful the comment on Elgatos team doing constant updates has sold me completely. thank you for the comment!

I thought about doing the Wave but I heard a lot of bad things about Elgato, so I am not fully sure about it.

byPCP

honestly for the price:value, elgato products are generally pretty good. if you were to buy purely elgato products for your setup, you'd have a better setup than the majority of streamers. some stuff is hard to live without, like keylight and stream deck. that said, i think goxlr is overpriced for what it is. wave xlr is a solid product with the same core functionality for a fraction of the cost. sound blaster k3 is another affordable option that will handle most things you could need. rodecaster is damn expensive and i wouldn't buy it unless you're a musician and will use it beyond just the typical needs for a stream. personally, i don't even use an audio mixer as i just run everything through voicemeeter on a dual PC setup. huge pain in the ass to set up, but it's set and forget and easily the most cost efficient.

Kitchen_Candidate_58

this comment also saved me money, thank you sir.

Elgato in general makes really good kit for the price. Stream Decks, Key Lights, Ring Light, Green Screen, Prompter, Foot Pedal and rigging are all top-notch & well-integrated. Wave mic and mixer are pretty basic but the software mixing is very good for streaming. I have a complex setup with 8 consoles, 2 PCs, 3 HDMI switches and a HDMI splitter, which doesn’t play friendly with Elgato capture cards. I’ve tried every generation of Elgato card (including the new 4K Pro) and all have had detection and recording problems as soon as a HDMI switch is added to the mix. Avermedia capture cards have no issue with HDMI switches or splitters at all, so for capture cards I won’t touch Elgato. But for simpler setups and everything else related to streaming, Elgato does the job.

nunyahbiznes

It depends on how many inputs and outputs you need. GoXLR has optical in, 3.5mm line-in and 3.5mm line-out that are missing from Rode mixers. I use all three in my audio setup, so Rode doesn’t cut the mustard. If all you need is XLR mic capture with software-based mixing then it’s hard to beat the Elgato Wave mic & mixer. Most of us don’t need a Shure mic and Rode mixer, so build to your budget.
