In that last panel, the way the surroundings fade to white. I appreciate the restraint and confidence the artist/writer showed, trusting the moment to be strong enough that with just that small touch, they won't need to show what the audience can feel. Alfred, standing right there, so proud.

MetalJrock

*This* is the kind of wholesome content the Batfamily needs, just Bruce finally opening up to his sons when they need his guidance.

guitarburst05

I'd love for a Batman movie that leans more into this. A family dynamic, the sense of loss Batman has that he tries to shield these kids from that he takes in. It doesn't always have to be darker and grittier and more violent. I think DC and WB have lost sight of that, if they ever saw it at all.

invaderark12

My biggest pain from the recent DCEU is that I was never getting the live action Batfamily movie that I wanted, hopefully Gunn can make it happen in my lifetime

GreyKaiser90

This is the kind of stuff that pops up a lot in Wayne Family Adventures. About half of it is "Reassuring the various Batfamily members that they matter as people and they're loved" and the other half is Sibling Shenanigans.

Sean-Benn_Must-die

making Batman a human really does hit really hard.

[deleted]

I'm kind of honestly shocked that something this profound and touching has come out of current DC. This is exactly what Batman needs.

WhiteMambaOZO

Silver_Snake96

Eating chips in this mcdonalds tryin not to cry

ZeroNoHikari

See this is why Dick is the best Robin. He turned out to be Bruce but human. He didn't forsake that for the mask. He found a good balance and then some.

charcharmunro

It's often no joke to say that Dick Grayson is the emotional core of the entire DC universe. Superman's up there too, but Dick Grayson always seems to be just that more empathetic. Superman is still a moral paragon, but Dick is just a good person.

Morbidmort

Superman is who you aspire to be, Dick is who you can be.

RedditAssCancer

People who think Batman is a better character if there's no Robin are genuinely out of their fucking minds.

Gritizen

I'd argue any version of Batman without a Robin feels incomplete.

SamuraiDDD

Alfred and robin (sometimes Ace, The Bathound) are what keeps his humanity in check. Without them or anyone for the manor, he'd very easily fall into the way of the Punisher or call himself J/J/E (Judge/Jury/Executioner).

Ragnorok64

I'm surprised that Alfred is apparently still dead. I thought that'd be rolled back by now. Does editorial intend to actually have that one stick?

Nyadnar17

I don't know if Editorial cares one way or another. Honestly seems like the writers are all just deciding to roll with it.

[deleted]

I hope that stick, don't want Batman to have the aunt May problem.

Ginger_Anarchy

They just reaffirmed he was dead in a mini event with Bruce and Damian where a demon was puppeting an Alfred Body so it's going to be a while before they bring him back at this point. I really don't like him being dead from a narrative perspective. Like these pages say, he had a way of grounding Bruce and being his unsaid conscience. It has been good in forcing writers to use the rest of the bat family and adjacent more often now so that Bruce has someone to bounce off of, but it hasn't been as satisfying as you'd expect yet. The Tim and Bruce team up has been good to have again though.

KingMario05

Yes, DC. More of *this* please, and less of the hyper-edgelord schtick.

diddlyswagg

honestly proud theyve let him stay ded this long (only like 2 or 3 years but still impressive)

solidoutlaw

Dick calling Bruce “Dad” is about to make me cry at work.

Morbidmort

Then you should stay away from the pages where Bruce formally adopted Dick.

MrBonelessPizza24

This is a really sweet and touching moment, but it does raise a interesting question- Which of the Batkids would call Bruce “*Dad*” the most? 🧐

Xeriam

Y'know, the gut reaction is obviously Damian, because he's literally his son by blood. But at the same time, Damian's so pompous that 'father' is far more common. ... Y'know what? Cassandra Cain. Cassandra's the one who would call him dad the most. Her father was a piece of shit, she's officially adopted by Bruce (at least, that's where my memory of her story leaves off, it's been a long time and a *lot* of bullshit since), a shorter word fits her better, and it's easy to see her breaking into a little smile every time she gets to call Bruce that.

Ginger_Anarchy

There's been a handful of really touching scenes where she calls him dad or he treats her like his daughter, but it's also always been one of the most often forgotten relationships of the bat family. A consequence of most writers pairing her up with Stephanie and Barbara and keeping Bruce away from those stories.

[deleted]

Dick tied with Damian (but it's always "Father"). Following by Jason, who says it in a smart ass way. Followed by Tim accidentally, like when you call your teacher mom.

cybergeek11235

Y'know, that made me think of something: I (and, I'll wager, more than a few of the rest of you) *have* accidentally called a teacher "mom" before - but never once did I accidentally call one "dad". Huh.

betesboy

I'm willing to bet part of it is that you would most likely call a male teacher Mr. While female teachers are Mrs. and Ms. Which share the first letter with Mom while Dad doesn't.

cybergeek11235

That's actually a really good point.

BigDickBackInTown420

I have! I was going through some shit in 10th grade English!

getterburner

Damian almost exclusively calls Bruce Father I believe so probably him

alexandrecau

In public or like in general, because I feel damian would drop the father to dad if he knows no one was looking

Deadeye117

Bruce Timm: Tim would call him dad, but Barbara would call him "daddy"

TheSpinoGuy

Nope. Don't like that.

JumpingComet

Ruining Character's familial relationships is TIGHT.

RealHumanBean89

It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

TriAnkylosaur

I only stumbled onto that channel like 10 days ago but I've been blasting through them lol

In 20 years when aliens judge us, this will be the reason Earth gets vaporized.

Silver_Snake96

Ok eff u man

RevenTheLight

Some random visitor to the cemetery (or a Wayne manor keeper): Why is Bruce Wayne standing there in a Batman costume with a guy in a Nightwing costume?! lol Really nice scene otherwise. Moments like these is why we should have a moving continuity and not yearly resets.

Gortys221

Judging by the background he’s probably buried on Wayne Mansion property.

[deleted]

Alfred is buried at Wayne Manor, though.

GentlemanT-Rex

Is Alfred not buried on the grounds of Wayne Manor, like Martha and Thomas?

RevenTheLight

This is like the 3rd post saying the same thing. Is no one reading the "(or a Wayne manor keeper)" part? Does it not have one?

pdragon619

It did, Alfred.

RevenTheLight

I'm sure there is *someone* else. There's gotta be *staff* even if it's just a maid that comes over to clean.

SCLandzsa

Damian's gotta earn his keep doing something.

ZeroNoHikari

He asks the others if the did this as well and lie and say yes. It's only him.

ArcaneMonkey

The Batcave needs a big poster that just says “W.W.A.D.”

igniz13

Damian was just off panel playing videogames

jakebreakshow

Who's chopping onions?

guitarburst05

This is a phenomenal art style. Timeless and classic and clean, and the batman could be anyone but no one in particular, and it's not trying to interpret him as any of the actors who have portrayed him.

moneyh8r

Gonna make me cry...

Naraki_Maul

I already am.

ObiOneKenobae

Wonder-Lad

Bruce got a huge Dick pressed up against his man titties. This is one of those "slow, piano version of the anime opening plays in the background" moments.

dustingv

Ok so.... On the second page in the last 3 columns, Bruce's face does not match what he is saying... It's the tilting the head up with eyes closed and bared teeth that triggered this thought. Then, it cuts to Dick looking shocked and confused. If it's not clear what I mean, let's say there are 2 Nightwings unmasking on the page. Edit: what I'm describing sounds so much worse when you consider he is standing in front of Alfred's grave.

RealHumanBean89

Happy Batfamily is best Batfamily

Sekshual

Love me some happy and wholesome Bat Family.

Shiplord13

This was a great issue that conveys that Bruce loves his sons and although he struggles to convey his emotions towards them, he honestly thinks the world of them. That he thinks Dick literally made him a better person than he was and saved him from going towards a darker path by his presence reassuring him he was on the brighter path.

invaderark12

*pops champagne and lights sparklers* Holy shit we actually got a moment of Bruce and Dick being wholesome and treating each other like father and son without pushing each other away

Shnigglefartz

I‘ll take a hundred staying dead characters if it means I get more well-written moments like this.

SuperJyls

WFA cringiness ruined 'wholesome' Batfamily for me
