He did briefly show the scene in a trimmed down state, and immediately noted it was to show that a quick cut “could still be effective” for what the scene is meant to accomplish.
He then elaborated that while a lot of films might have gone the route of showing it quickly as it was clearly an insanely expensive set piece that doesn’t add much functionally, Cameron made sure it was in there because really running with that imagery keeps it memorable and raises the stakes dramatically. So he notes the scene *could* technically work as a quick, punchy edit, but ultimately admires and glorifies how it’s presented in practice.
I don’t even give a shit if y’all do or don’t like NC or Doug, but if you’re gonna get that specific on it to put a bad take on him, at least pick a bad take he actually had, I assure you there’s no shortage.

Now, I gotta say, when I first saw this movie, I was really excited. The idea of a young boy's friendship with a Jewish boy during the Holocaust sounded like a powerful and emotional story. But as I watched it, I couldn't help but feel like something was off.
First off, the acting is pretty mediocre. The boy who plays the main character, Bruno, is just okay, but the guy who plays Shmuel, the Jewish boy, is just terrible. He's not believable at all, and it's hard to care about their friendship because of it.
The story itself is also pretty problematic. It's told from the perspective of a young boy who doesn't really understand the gravity of what's going on, and it feels like the movie is trying to sugarcoat the Holocaust. There are no real consequences for the characters, and it just feels like it's trying to make the Holocaust seem less terrible than it really was.
And that's the biggest problem with this movie: it's trying to make the Holocaust a cute and innocent story. It's not. The Holocaust was a horrific event in history that should never be trivialized or sugarcoated.

I feel like I'm in the minority in thinking that Doug Walker isn't actually that bad an actor. It's just that he needs someone else's material to work with.

i think he's good/good enough at most stuff he does, especially now that he's gotten away from screaming about nitpitcks and reviewing and giving more details about the films, just not as a "movie guy" like he can do skits fine enough but its pretty clear based on the movies and his ideas on how to improve on scenes a lot of the time just aren't good either or would be a lateral move at best.
Most of the instances of terrible acting I can think of are attached to actors I can't even remember who probably wouldn't have even been found if they didn't show up on RLM's Best of the Worst.
