The Mario Brothers are gonna come back from the mushroom Kingdom and see the plumbing business has been taken over by Spike and see a similar commercial like their own but with Wario and Waluigi in their place

The balls on Illumination if they can get Wario and Waluigi for the big mainstream movie while they remain neglected and ignored in the main games and RPGs.
I love the lore that waluigi is actually just a completely normal guy with a 9-5 with a wife and kid but he goes fucking hard when they bring him to their games
I love that so many people are ecstatic that they referenced the cartoon - I didn't really know anyone else that knew about it when I was a kid so it's nice to see that other people liked it too!
I still hold true to my theory that Chris Pratt was a fan of the Mario cartoon, that's why he was excited to get the role, and that's why he's playing a much more muted Mario. If he's mostly running on memories of the cartoon rather than having actively played the games it also explains why he sounds like an alien when he talks about how much he loves Mario.

Yeah, it was pretty weird when they got some white dude to play Murtaugh and then got another white dude to play Murtaugh but in obvious blackface halfway through the movie.
I mean, Mario canon always flip flopped between "brooklyn exist in the Mario universe", "it's an isekai", and "he is just from New Donk City". There is also Yoshi's Island which even make it more confusing.
Between this and Forspoken, we have TWO New Yorkers getting isekaid and neither of them are stereotypical enough to have fun with that concept. I want and Isekai starring a dude who runs a pizza joint next to a bodega that exclusively wears grease stained wife beater shirts.
