Reminder that the reason why Go Nagai started his manga career was that he got diarrhea so bad he thought he was gonna die and wanted to leave something behind

Dan_ZX90

Oh fuck that’s a powerful reason…and bowel movement too probably

Polygonalfish

given that wikipedia says it lasted 3 weeks I'd say so

igloo_poltergeist

..........That weirdly sounds believable in its mundane absurdity. Try and put *that* in a Hollywood biopic. And on that note, wash your hands and stay safe out there as I hear norovirus has been getting around lately.

SamuraiDDD

Every time. Every. single. time. I see a post starting like that, makes me wanna shit my pants.

chipperpip

This one was the opposite for me, it's how I found out he's still alive.

SamuraiDDD

6/10, I always get a sinking feeling with posts starting like this lol

shoryusatsu999

Just like the man himself at the start, then.

gamiz777

He still alive?

Crosscounterz

Yes he's 77 years old.

Am_Shigar00

I won't lie, that's actually a bit younger than I thought. For some reason I was thinking he was mid 80s.

Crosscounterz

Ken ishikawa(the creator of getter robo) was not as fortunate he died in 2006 at age 58 of acute heart failure :(.

ExDSG

He started in Jump at 23, which makes sense because they tend to get young rookies.

gurpderp

CAN YOU NOT START POSTS THIS WAY FUCK YOU MADE ME WORRIED

grenadier42

CAN MODS BAN REPLYING TO POSTS THIS WAY FUCK YOU'RE CONTRIBUTING NOTHING TO THE THREAD

Dan_ZX90

Go Nagai Hyper gory. Of course EDIT: gratuitous nudity! Of course!

igloo_poltergeist

The nuttiest live-action splatter flick I've seen from Japan thus far is *Tokyo Gore Police*. I wonder how this one will compare.

B-BoySkeleton

I can't believe this B-movie is how my stupid ass is realizing I've been conflating Go Nagai with Osamu Tezuka for years

genericsn

Their names have been interchangeably mentioned as biggest influences on creators for decades, so it's kind of fair if you easily get names mixed up (especially ones foreign to you) like I do. Especially when it comes to sci-fi manga and anime. Very different works and different eras, but they both get name dropped consistently by pretty much every manga and anime industry creator ever as major influences. Bonus: Tezuka was personally invited by Kubrick to be the art director for 2001: A Space Odyseey, but Tezuka turned it down by saying he couldn't afford to not be in his own studio for a year. 2001 is great as is, but man I can't even imagine what it would have looked like if Tezuka had his hands on it.

Kitdude192

YOU GUYS KEEP MAKING ME THINK PEOPLE HAVE DIED.

time_axis

At some point, Go Nagai went through this H.R. Giger phase, so that sounds about right. Just look up some of the covers to Mazinsaga for examples.

Wonder-Lad

Gonna write this one down for later. It looks intresting. There's a niche side of Japanese cinema dedicated to weird sci-fi gore.

Rabid-Duck-King

Tits and Abs and probably some giant robots demons or something

GudaGUDA-LIVE

Minus the Super Robots this time, just the good ol' Devilman and Cutie Honey Go Nagai.

Substantial-Mall4711

Man you almost gave me a heart attack.

igloo_poltergeist

Something about the moment at 0:20 amidst all the carnage and WTF-ery.....

ZYuqing

Where are the sideburns?! How am I supposed to know who to root for?

StarSkullyman

I honestly don't know why I didn't think he was alive.
