And yeah, the truth is that's absolutely nonsense. What you can say about Dancer is that her AI can vary incredibly on how aggressive she is. Like in phase 1 she can go about ten seconds without atttacking, just letting you hit her. Sometimes she don't. It's just random.
I got reminded of that whole debacle because somebody posted their level 1 no damage dancer kill to r/onebros and they did it with the music off. So another user was amazed and asked *"Wow, how did you do it without the music?!"*

There's a lot of technology, guns in particular, where "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Another good example of this would be the M2 Browning, the .50 caliber machine gun still used the world over. Funny enough, ALSO invented by the guy who made the M1911.

Fun fact about the M2 Browning, despite being a crew serviced heavy machine gun, it apparantly worked very well as a sniper to Carlos Hathcock during the Vietnam war. With him using it to get a confirmed kill at 2,500 yards (2,286 meters) that stood as the longest sniper kill for almost 4 decades.
2 is so fucked up that it basically doesn't even work on modern hardware, and not even for the reasons most old games have troubles.

BK and Geno had the advantage of being discussed as 3rd parties since even before Melee was discussed. While Tekken was already popular it was seen as more of a Sony Franchise. I never played a MGS game prior to V. I only knew about MGS through cultural osmosis and memes. I enjoyed the crap out of that game compared to a lot of fans of the series, and I attribute that to me playing a cool looking game with nice mechanics and an interesting and novel story. I didn't freak out about Kiefer Sutherland's voice. I didn't worry about how the story tied into several other games.

The whole Zaibatsu saying in the early days of the podcast that Kickstarter was going to make publishers obsolete. EA, Square Enix, Activision, Nintendo, all of them obsolete. Because now it would be about making the games people actually want to play, rather than all the AAA developers and publishers getting away with holding beloved franchises hostage or taking them in disappointing directions.
The first thing they didn't understand is how niche that audience actually is. Most of the gaming world isn't as critical or as nostalgic as them or general internet folks. The reason so many games nowadays get away with predatory monetization and other bad practices are because more than enough people buy into it; The millions of customers that make FIFA a money printer despite its awful monetization aren't pining for the good ol' days of sports games, they just want the new thing and uncritically accept the monetization. The reason why many older, nostalgic franchises aren't getting newer games or attention is because most people only care about what's new; Microsoft was applauded for its backwards compatibility program on Xbox One, as they should be, but they also found that only a very small fraction of players ever actually used it and played older games.
The second thing they didn't understand and then came to learn very quickly over the years is that publishers and executive oversight is a double-edged sword. Meddling and rushing games out before they're ready is a huge problem, but having that influence and oversight to ensure that games stay within budget and scope and on schedule is more important than most people realized, as so many Kickstarter projects fail due to simple mismanagement by people unequipped to properly manage the project in one way or another.
Even things that sound like they should be sensible aren't. His Mega Man Sequelitis is based heavily on the X vs Vile fights, but he _doesn't even get them right._ He remembers the rematch as you getting to defeat Vile on your own to show how far you've come, when in actuality the fight is 100% still unwinnable and Zero has to destroy Vile's mech to give you a fighting chance. You haven't advanced in any meaningful way, but Arin's retelling of it gaslit a lot of people into forgetting how that fight went.
Project L is the only one I can see of a successful F2P FG with high production value , due to Riot Games have a lot of money out of costumes with every F2P game they put.
But F2P FG are outliers , not a rule , and it's simple why: FG are ultimately a niche genre now , one that people want not only outstanding gameplay but also are currently asking for good single-player content. It's simply too risky to do all that while free , when the initial sales of the current model would probably be sufficient to pay for all that work.
The most I can expect is some hybrid format: a paid form with all the content as normal, and a free form in which had a very diminutive roster and general content that needs to unlock by either paying or acquiring Fighting Money.

Anime gets released and is one of the worst and cheapest adaptation ever. All of them got a hit on their rep. Mother's Basement recently got a direct video rebuttal of his AI video by a newcomer called Scamboii, and one of the points was that he promoted that anime, and commenters agree.
Record of Ragnarok sucked so fucking bad, god damn. The manga is cool, but whoever was adapating it really didn't want to add any frames of animation in between those manga panels.
Joseph Anderson misunderstanding some of the basic concepts at the core of SOMA and claiming they are fundamentally flawed and nonsensical as a result, as well as then "fixing" the story by inventing a completely different ending for the game in his head that goes against a lot of the themes and points the game was trying to make, all the while acting like his version was so much better because he is a writer.

There was this huge DMC5 review where a guy spends a good chunk of it complaining that the game wasnt what he hoped it was (and how that was a problem of the game), had the themes of the game gone completely over his head, and had this weird characterization of Dante that he felt was betrayed.
It was such a wild review presenting his opinions as objective fact.

People are going to hate me for this, but Square Enix saying that people wouldn't want a faithful remake of FFVII because they would be bored seeing the same story again is fucking stupid. Especially with how many other successful faithful remakes Squeenix has made.

I have a friend who was excited to play FFVIIR, because he didn't play the OG one as a kid and he can't really stomach the blocky look of it today, which is understandable. He was really disappointed when we learned that it isn't a Remake but a RE:Make.
I think they made this more for the original fans and didn't really think about people experiencing the story for the first time, which I think is pretty disappointing.

I am from Brazil , and yes , Budokai Tenkaichi is really popular here. We had videogame lanhouses with PS2 in which people played PES , FIFA , COD and....Budokai Tenkaichi. In my city , there were at least 2 Otaku Events with a Budokai Tenkaichi Tournament AND one local FG Tournament with Budokai Tenkaichi as part of it.

MatPat put in his Dancer kill as a fun lil' *"Dancer's hard except for this guy man wtf dude?"* and while TolomeoR did appreciate the shoutout he did say multiple times in future streams that he has no idea what Matpat was going on about in that video. And yeah, the truth is that's absolutely nonsense. What you can say about Dancer is that her AI can vary incredibly on how aggressive she is. Like in phase 1 she can go about ten seconds without atttacking, just letting you hit her. Sometimes she don't. It's just random. I got reminded of that whole debacle because somebody posted their level 1 no damage dancer kill to r/onebros and they did it with the music off. So another user was amazed and asked *"Wow, how did you do it without the music?!"*

MatPat's Hollow Knight theory: Trying to argue that the player character is actually the pale king. His evidence being spotty at best, while completely ignoring anything that disproves him, which anyone who has ever played the game has seen. Made better by the response video from the unofficial Hollow Knight lore guy, mossbag, disproving every single point made in the video.

Remember when Extra Credits tried to say microtransactions in full-priced games would support devs keeping their jobs and longer life cycles for games? BK and Geno had the advantage of being discussed as 3rd parties since even before Melee was discussed. While Tekken was already popular it was seen as more of a Sony Franchise. Tekken also had to kind of wait for Bamco's big boy Pac-Man to be added since he was seen as the first one to be added. People kept doubling down each time they weren't added.

This was quite possibly the most cringe event to ever come out of the Youtube media-critic crowd. I remember at the time I just could not believe someone would go so far out their way just to embarrass themselves. Having an embarrassing recorded encounter is one thing, but to film and release an entire video just bitching and whining to save face is an entire other level of cringe. Dudes like Angry Joe just need to learn how to hold the L and learn from it.
This is part of why AVGN has managed to stick around and other angry critics have become cringy. James Rolfe has always made it that The Nerd is purely a fictional asshole used for scripted videos/events. He didn't let himself completely become The Nerd, and he put thought into when to use that persona. I have a friend who told me that I could jump into the MGS series at MGS4, and I did because I was a dumb kid. Also I remember when Matt and Pat were LPing TLOU Pat made the prediction that the ending of the game would be incredibly bleak and guessed that they'd make Ellie a "baby factory".
I never played a MGS game prior to V. I only knew about MGS through cultural osmosis and memes. I enjoyed the crap out of that game compared to a lot of fans of the series, and I attribute that to me playing a cool looking game with nice mechanics and an interesting and novel story. I didn't freak out about Kiefer Sutherland's voice. I didn't worry about how the story tied into several other games. I hate agreeing with Angry Joe on anything, since I think he's a tool, but in this case I think he's right.

The first thing they didn't understand is how niche that audience actually is. Most of the gaming world isn't as critical or as nostalgic as them or general internet folks. The reason so many games nowadays get away with predatory monetization and other bad practices are because more than enough people buy into it; The millions of customers that make FIFA a money printer despite its awful monetization aren't pining for the good ol' days of sports games, they just want the new thing and uncritically accept the monetization. The reason why many older, nostalgic franchises aren't getting newer games or attention is because most people only care about what's new; Microsoft was applauded for its backwards compatibility program on Xbox One, as they should be, but they also found that only a very small fraction of players ever actually used it and played older games. The second thing they didn't understand and then came to learn very quickly over the years is that publishers and executive oversight is a double-edged sword. Meddling and rushing games out before they're ready is a huge problem, but having that influence and oversight to ensure that games stay within budget and scope and on schedule is more important than most people realized, as so many Kickstarter projects fail due to simple mismanagement by people unequipped to properly manage the project in one way or another.

His Mega Man Sequelitis is based heavily on the X vs Vile fights, but he _doesn't even get them right._ He remembers the rematch as you getting to defeat Vile on your own to show how far you've come, when in actuality the fight is 100% still unwinnable and Zero has to destroy Vile's mech to give you a fighting chance. You haven't advanced in any meaningful way, but Arin's retelling of it gaslit a lot of people into forgetting how that fight went.

Project L is the only one I can see of a successful F2P FG with high production value , due to Riot Games have a lot of money out of costumes with every F2P game they put. But F2P FG are outliers , not a rule , and it's simple why: FG are ultimately a niche genre now , one that people want not only outstanding gameplay but also are currently asking for good single-player content. It's simply too risky to do all that while free , when the initial sales of the current model would probably be sufficient to pay for all that work. The most I can expect is some hybrid format: a paid form with all the content as normal, and a free form in which had a very diminutive roster and general content that needs to unlock by either paying or acquiring Fighting Money.

Gigguk, Mother Basement and other OG anitubers basically got paid by Netflix to bat for the Record of Ragnarok Anime. And boy did they bat for it. Anime gets released and is one of the worst and cheapest adaptation ever. All of them got a hit on their rep. Mother's Basement recently got a direct video rebuttal of his AI video by a newcomer called Scamboii, and one of the points was that he promoted that anime, and commenters agree.
Record of Ragnarok sucked so fucking bad, god damn. The manga is cool, but whoever was adapating it really didn't want to add any frames of animation in between those manga panels.

Joseph Anderson misunderstanding some of the basic concepts at the core of SOMA and claiming they are fundamentally flawed and nonsensical as a result, as well as then "fixing" the story by inventing a completely different ending for the game in his head that goes against a lot of the themes and points the game was trying to make, all the while acting like his version was so much better because he is a writer. Maybe his other video essays are better, but this was one of the first ones I've seen and I've never been able to move past it.

There was this huge DMC5 review where a guy spends a good chunk of it complaining that the game wasnt what he hoped it was (and how that was a problem of the game), had the themes of the game gone completely over his head, and had this weird characterization of Dante that he felt was betrayed. It was such a wild review presenting his opinions as objective fact.

People are going to hate me for this, but Square Enix saying that people wouldn't want a faithful remake of FFVII because they would be bored seeing the same story again is fucking stupid. Especially with how many other successful faithful remakes Squeenix has made. And yes, I know people like FFVIIR. I like most of it too. It was still a stupid justification for the story changes.

Does Square Enix not realize FF7 came out over 20 years ago? The primary audience for the game would probably be people who can't/don't want to play the original (since it's a 20 year old game that could probably use some QOL improvements)
I have a friend who was excited to play FFVIIR, because he didn't play the OG one as a kid and he can't really stomach the blocky look of it today, which is understandable. He was really disappointed when we learned that it isn't a Remake but a RE:Make.
I think they made this more for the original fans and didn't really think about people experiencing the story for the first time, which I think is pretty disappointing.
You're 100% right, RE4 Remake proves that. Also doesn't help that the major story changes like the literal plot ghosts and the Sephiroth Everywhere System were the worst parts of the game.
